Following on from IGN announcing its own 'Summer of Gaming' event yesterday, the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) has locked in the dates for its next E3 conference.
With this year's E3 officially cancelled, the next "reimagined" version of it will be taking place between 15th - 17th June 2021. No other details about it have been shared at this point in time.
Although the ESA said it was "exploring options with members" to coordinate an online experience this year, it's rumoured publishers have declined the offer. IGN has also managed to secure the following partners for its own digital event so far, which will take place in June:
2K, Square Enix, SEGA, Bandai Namco, Amazon, Google Stadia, Twitter, Devolver Digital, THQ Nordic
You can read more about this in our previous post.
Have you come to terms with the cancellation of this year's E3? Do you think the ESA can turn things around in 2021? Will you be tuning into IGN's new digital event? Share your thoughts in the comments.

And by then CV19 is under control is what they hope.
e3 sucks anyway
just in time for corona-20
I feel like IGN have used this as a way to kill off E3 for good. If their "Summer of Gaming" thing is any good, publishers will go back to IGN next year rather than the ESA.
ambitious of them
Would rather have IGN do it. It's better for the environment.
@mesome713
How would a one week convention "worsen" the environment more than anything else in smog-covered LA?
Didn't realize Amazon and Twitter are in the gaming industry. What could they possibly had in store for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X?
They really jumped the gun on cancelling. Most viruses are killed off during spring. The cases are already dropping
@PickledKong64 Where are they dropping? Not in the U.S at least, and the death rates are spiking if anything. There's also yet no evidence that heat is slowing the virus down.
This is hardly blowing over by June.
@Toy_Link Cause more is greater than less.
@mesome713
If you practice what you preach, then don't use the internet to post on video game fandom websites, as the energy used to power the internet is bad for the environment:

Also, even if E3 was cancelled forever, there'd still be a (non-E3) convention(s) or event(s) that would be in the LA Convention Center first two weeks in June. LA Convention Center is constantly booked, cancelling E3 would do nothing for the environment.
Oh awesome, I'm going to put those dates down on my calendar immediately so I don't forget when the time comes.
@retro_player_77 Not sure about Twitter, but Amazon owns Twitch, which is a big part of the industry, and I believe they have a studio that's been working on a game for them. I thought I heard rumors of it being some sort of online mmo game, could be wrong about that though.
Edit: Yeah, here it is https://www.newworld.com/en-us
They also have a racing game, and some sort of shooter in the works
Will people still even care?
@MasterJay Odd how they are bringing it to PC but not their own system, the Amazon Fire TV.
I recall news saying, historically speaking, creating a vaccine within 12-18 months is considered extremely fast. Man, I hope I can still go to the my beach house rental this summer. I'm not holding my breath though.
@retro_player_77 most Twitch streamers use PC, which is surely the demographic they’re going for (as big streamers tend to be good at popularizing games).
Can someone please tell me why people aren't as into E3, as they used to be?
Honestly the thing with IGN? Better than nothing.
@SwitchForce hey my snake oil cures Corona. Also hospital uses are dropping in the us already. I might be no expert but at least I'm not all doom and gloom like all yall ppl
Yeah, sure E3 will be back in 2021. Ok, there...
Once publishers realize they live without E3, they won't bother spending the money again. Although, this year is kind of a dead year for the industry anyway, so sales might be abysmal anyway. And how does MS and Sony ACTUALLY think they're launching consoles this year when even an established, cheaper to make product like Switch can't be made in nearly sufficient quantity?
@PickledKong64 MANY viruses are heat or humidity sensitive. But they don't know yet if this one is. Given how fast it's been spreading in Florida and Louisiana, I'd say there's more than a likely chance that heat and humidity have zero negative effect on it at all.....which means there's no summer reprieve.
