The good news from 2K just keeps coming, as the Borderlands series is finally headed to Nintendo Switch.
Borderlands Legendary Collection will bring three games from the franchise to Nintendo's machine - Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition, Borderlands 2, and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel - on 29th May. Yep, that's the same day as the XCOM 2 Collection and all three BioShock games. Blimey.
As well as the three games mentioned above, Borderlands Legendary Collection will also include a "boatload of add-ons". We've got the full rundown for you below.
Get three times the mayhem, three times the loot and three times the action with the Borderlands Legendary Collection on the Nintendo Switch, which contains:
- Borderlands®: Game of the Year Edition: The co-op shooter-looter that started it all, crammed with content and enhancements. Equip bazillions of guns as one of four trigger-happy mercenaries, each with unique RPG skills. Take on the lawless desolate planet Pandora in pursuit of powerful alien technology: The Vault
- Borderlands® 2: Play as one of six Vault Hunters attempting to liberate Pandora from evil mastermind and corporate CEO Handsome Jack. Make new friends, arm them with a bazillion weapons and fight alongside them in a relentless quest for revenge and redemption
- Borderlands®: The Pre-Sequel: Play as six all-new character classes while carving a path of destructive mayhem across Pandora’s never-before-seen low-gravity moonscapes with all new moves, weapons, and vehicles! Fight alongside future megalomaniacal tyrant Handsome Jack, while preventing the destruction of Pandora and its moon- Play all three games on the go with friends: Each features local two-player split-screen co-op play and support for up to four players online
The news was revealed as part of today's Nintendo Direct Mini, which Nintendo decided to drop online out of the blue earlier today.

Our SD Cards are cowering in fear
Man im goin to buy this for the 3th time, No doubt
I haven't played the pre-sequel, so I am considering this bundle.
So stoked to skip these and avoid anything Randy Pitchford related.
I hope local wireless play and gyro controls are added as well.
Too bad about the download requirement for the physical version. It's to be expected though I suppose...
Borderlands art style looks really good on the switch, where the stuff they showed didn't really look like a downgrade
@Zuljaras Dang. Aren't there 32 gb cartridges? this is getting really lazy...
Borderlands 2 is a hearty recommendation for anyone who enjoys solid dark humor and frantic gun gameplay. Even better if you can play with mates.
Omg, my most requested games finally on Switch. Super happy
Ahh flapjack
I love the Borderlands series but I'm a lil hesitant to buy this just because Nintendo's online service is utterly pathetic and expensive for what it actually provides.
Another day one for me. The first two Borderlands games are some good fun!
@MasterJay yes there are but it would cut from the profits and companies do not want that. It is easier to use 8GB cartridge and put the rest 40GB in download. That shelf space is important marketing for them.
I’ll be picking this up
@MasterJay 40GB download + 1 8GB card.. so it would require a 64GB Switch gamecard. Those are still quite expensive for these developers.
I love Borderlands. But these are games that I already have purchased many times.
Would get but played them all on Xbox, so good for people who have switches to get to play these awesome game.
@TheNewButler They just don't care. If they had faith that their product will sell well they would've put more effort in the release.
Too bad for the physical edition, but these games are must haves (except the pre-sequel). If you haven´t played them yet, well, there are no excuses now lol.
Let´s hope they bring Borderlands 3 eventually too!
Gyro aim please thanks
Hope I will be able to continue from where I left on PC because I already was on some OP level (don't remember exactly) in BL2.
@Zuljaras I know it would cut profits, but it's pretty greedy of them to expect people to download this much just to make more money. I mean, a lot of third parties seem to be used to it from other platforms, but that doesn't make it right, you shouldn't sell a game, that hardly includes any of the game...
@MasterJay I would not be angry if they stated it from the start "Our games on the Switch will be Digital only." And that is it. But no, they have to advertise this crap.
Love Borderlands 2. I've played 200-hours on the PC and will gladly buy it again for the Switch!
Borderlands, Bioshock and XCOM? Oh my, this is too much for me to handle...
@Jonasty198460 Same... At least 3rd time (might have even bought a copy for a friend)
Will be buying this no doubt. Though I've already played all 2 for hundreds of hours on multiple systems already, love these games!
@sanderev And most people don't care as much about a full physical cartridge as some vocal "fans" do, specially in an age were games take up so much storage.
Got to say they could have at least gone with a 16gb cartridge so you'd get at least one full game on cart. This is basically digital release with a box.
I'm more interested in Bioshock and Xenoblade anyway. (Oh, and XCOM 2).
@Crockin Hahaha indeed, but to be fair, that's only Gearbox and Borderlands. Bioshock and Xcom have no direct ties to that conartist crapsack.
@nab1 The whole point of buying physical on Switch is that you DON'T have the massive download.
Don't make excuses for companies like 2K that pull this BS, when companies like CD Projekt Red can squeeze Witcher 3 onto one card. You just come off as a tool with that attitude. There's no good reason to use such a small card with a release like this.
PS4 and XBO may dump the entire disc onto the internal storage, but we're talking Switch here.
Shucks, that's too bad. If its not all on the cart then it's immediately relegated to 'wait for deep sale' territory.
@EVIL-C > The whole point of buying physical on Switch is that you DON'T have the massive download.
The whole point of the Switch is playing however or wherever you'd like to play. Whether there's a download, massive or not, is besides the point, something only some vocal fans really care about.
Given the option, yes, I'd love it if all games could fit in a single cartridge, but the reality is that it's just not feasible or even possible for some games. If they were to release full cartridges, then we'd probably get separate games instead of collections, and I would guess most would prefer to get the collections.
And while it is truly commendable that CD Project red went the extra mile, that's a rarity (and as a developer I can tell you it's a costly one), and even in that case you still don't have the full game on cartridge because you're missing out on the patches already out and still to come.
@Zuljaras Typically I'd agree, but cartridges are more expensive that a disc to the point that you're literally cutting into potential profits per physical copy sold compared to XB1 and PS4. This is a re-release that most of us have already played at great length so the target audience will be limited to people who have played it already looking to play it again on the go or new players who missed out on it for the past decade.
@Wilforce I agree to what you say as well. But why then not release it all digital? For the resale value? They don't care about that. The only thing that is worth it for them is the shelf space for marketing.
@nab1 "The whole point of the Switch is playing however or wherever you'd like to play."
No way, really?! 😛
The form factor of the device is unrelated to the way it reads and stores data.
Yeeeeeeeeesssss.
@MasterJay Borderlands 2 even ran on PS-VITA with really good visuals (but poor framerate from time to time) - so no doubt the switch can handle it without a downgrade.
Yikes! Huge download but it’s not gonna keep me from buying. I’m glad I sprung for that 400 GB card when it was on sale- I have plenty of room.
Damn, looks like I'll have to buy this again for the 3rd time 😍
@Zuljaras I guess not all collections could be as awesome as Metro Redux.
This physical with a massive download is getting ridiculous. If the amount you have to download is more than what is available on the console then they should use bigger carts or sell them individually. Fair enough if your downloading from the eshop but not the physical copy
@IronMan30 After playing 2 I just couldn't get into the Pre-sequal it just didn't have the same quality 2 did.
Easily one of the best news from the Direct, and increases the possibilities of bringing the third entry to Switch! Let's see if they accept the challenge while they're developing Godfall.
Great these games are coming to the switch but the physical release kind of seems pointless if you have to download most of the content anyway. I get it was probably to keep the cost down but still would have made more sense to release them as separate games on dedicated carts than this method.
Day 1 buy, take my money.
@EVIL-C Don't support pedos
Damn ! I wanted this collection so bad on my switch and now it’s here and they pull this... Never ever I will buy this pseudo-physical crap. Thank you for wasting my hopes 2K
This is so fantastic! I'm just glad to get it! If the physical doesn't come all on the cart then I'll go digital, I'm good with that!
@Zuljaras 2k being cheap again on notp utting everything on a cartridge.
I assume there is no death match in this game?
@Tasuki I have heard that, but for the price of this bundle it seems worth a look.
So it's basically Borderlands GotY and Borderlands the Handsome Collection that got released in ps4? Tbh, the GotY is hard to find physical on ps4 so I will get it if they don't do a code in a box deal.
Only the way I'll buy this is if Persona 5: Scramble doesn't get a Western release date soon.
FINALLY!!!!!!!!!! The circle is complete
