For a long time now, Nintendo fans have been crying out for themed LEGO sets based on their favourite video games. While Super Mario probably wasn't the number one request, that's how this collaboration between the two famous companies will begin.
Right now, apart from the initial reveal, there's been nothing officially mentioned about a price or release date for these upcoming Mario themed sets. Now, though, GoNintendo has supposedly received a tip from a "Target Insider" about this new line. Here's the full rundown:
According to Target's internal systems, we can expect LEGO Super Mario to make its debut in August 2020. The listing right now says Aug. 1st, 2020, but we're not sure if that's placeholder. Along with that, the listing is for the starter set in particular, which is priced at $70. No details on what's included in that, or if other sets will launch the same day.
Keep in mind, there is nothing concrete about this information, and it's far from an official announcement. Still, an August launch sounds feasible – so we guess we'll just have to wait and find out. In the meantime, you can learn more about this new LEGO theme in the original announcement post.

It’s a shame the figures are as ugly as they are, it’s a great concept.
Great concept, but seems poorly executed. Why not just a regular lego set? What is that cyborg Mario contraption?!
Oh my god, all that interactivity with the eyes and chest screen. That's pretty cool, actually. Would have been better on regular shape mario. Cool functions, though.
Why not regular mini-figures? It's been a while since I've bought any new Lego, are they not making them anymore?
@Heavyarms55 In the US Legos never went away. Still popular. But they are expensive as hell. Their prices seem ridiculous to me, though. You get very little for the money.
These disney prices are the same as other stores. Non-disney legos are still expensive too.

I just realized that this is the perfect time to make the Mario Zone from SML2:SGC into a real, working playset.
How am I gonna get 70 smackeroos when the economy's crashing? Oh wait-
@WoomyNNYes I didn't think they'd gone away, I was talking about the standard minifigures. A quick Google search confirmed they are still making them. So I don't know why they choose these weird SD style things for the Mario sets.
Wish they had just made it a normal LEGO creation.... don’t like this giant figure... it’s like a Weeble... seems overly childish. LEGO knows it’s gone be a bunch of adults buying this right?!?!
I'm pretty optimistic about this.
Might help me get my LEGO-obsessed nephews into Mario again. They play Fortnite at age 8, but somehow Mario is too taxing on their hand-eye coordination and timing. Tsk tsk.
I love Lego. I love Mario. This just looks terrible though imo...
The plural of Lego is Lego.
There is no such thing as 'Legos'!!!!!!
Great. I can't wait to ignore that monstrosity.
@Heavyarms55 You ought to visit the LEGO site, new sets all the time and a good number of which you can't find in any store aside from an official LEGO B&M. In fact they just re-released an old pirate favorite that they basically "remastered". I usually spend about $300/mo on their website.
As for this particular set though... It's a severe letdown. I was hoping for Bowser's Castle, Peach's Castle, Koopa Kid's Airship, Luigi's Mansion, Yoshi's Island, New Donk City, etc. Not to say this interactive set isn't neat, it's just not what your imagination would conjure up when you hear these two working together. They did say this isn't the only thing they've got though, and iirc they've been working together for a few years now so here's hoping.
@RickD That's the joke.
I'm super excited for this, the connectivity is in depth while using a simple mechanic. Probably wont get it at release but sometime after. I really hope they do zelda sets for the 35 anniversary next year though.
Everyone needs to hold there horses. According to the lead designer of these sets, Lego and Nintendo have been planning this partnership for years, and realize the demand for minifigures. Also, Lego often release their sets on the first of the month, so August 1st is most likely the real date.
I think this looks so good. I’m much more interested in this than I would be a normal mini figure style set. I guess they can’t please everyone but I’m lucky they’re pleasing me!
@GoblinKing86 I love Lego, but time, space and money mean buying more right now just isn't a good idea.
Awesome concept
