Re: Nintendo Shares Drop Following Latest Reports Of Switch 2 'Delay'

MSaturn

Personally I find the idea that this isn't launching until 2025 plausible. As I have said on other articles, I think Nintendo needs a pretty good lead up to launch the Switch successor properly. They cannot shadow drop this console like the Saturn. Maybe I'm wrong about that but I don't know. They are running out of time if they intend to launch this year.

Re: Talking Point: Is Knowing A Game's Ending Really That Bad?

MSaturn

I chose ‘other’ because there was no option for being indifferent. I’m general I do not seek out spoilers. But I have learned that they rarely matter that much. They don’t ruin the experience for me. There’s some interesting research suggesting this is actually true for most people.

Re: League Of Legends Developer Riot Games Axes 530 Jobs Globally

MSaturn

@PikaPhantom Would it be correct to say that the Japanese industry already contracted years ago? I recall Japanese publishers really struggling 10ish years ago - like Konami completely abandoned game development, for example. I know smaller companies closed and merged but I can’t remember if there were many layoffs at the big publishers.

Re: Poll: How Much Internal Storage Would Be Reasonable For 'Switch 2'?

MSaturn

I mean what they can get away with vs. what I would want are two different things. I think as little as 128gb or even 64 like the OLED could be “acceptable” to Nintendo. I don’t think it would necessarily harm sakes that much. But me personally I would like at least 512gb. I just upgraded to a 1.5tb card for my switch so assuming file size goes up at all anything less than 512 will definitely get filled up fast

Re: Random: Wait, Is Ocarina Of Time 3D Old Now?

MSaturn

How about this one: the first Zelda released in ‘86 and Skyward Sword released in 2011, a time span of 25 years. From Skyward Swords release to today has been 12 years and and some change, meaning the time after Skyward Sword is already almost half as long as the entire franchise up through Skyward Sword. Whoa!

Re: Talking Point: Could Nintendo Go Another Year Without A Switch Successor?

MSaturn

I just think in terms of marketing cycles alone the earliest a new system could possible release at this point is late fall 2024. Whatever the sales numbers say (good and bad) this will be a very important hardware transition. Nintendo can’t afford to rush it or confuse consumers (as happened with Wii U). They need to announce the system, let that information settle in, then do another presentation where they go into more detail about the system, and then they need to announce and promote the launch games. They need to go through the whole hype cycle so that by release day consumers (including kids and families not just enthusiasts like us) are fully informed and fully excited. I just don’t see this being done in less than 9-10 months. So basically, if we don’t get an announcement soon the console launch will slip to 2025.

Well, that’s my guess anyway but I’m often wrong about Nintendo’s marketing so, eh.

Re: 30 Upcoming Nintendo Switch Games To Look Forward To In 2024

MSaturn

Honestly kind a lot of stuff there I’m interested in. Another Code, Ace Attorney, Paper Mario, the Princess Peach game, and then a number of the other more indie flavored titles… I can already see that I’ll be buying plenty of Switch games in 2024! But the million dollar question is… will I also be buying a new Nintendo console???

Re: GTA 6 On 'Switch 2' Would Be "Very Tricky To Pull Off", Says Digital Foundry

MSaturn

@Cikajovazmaj I agree with this completely. Like on the one hand GTA6 may well not come out on Switch 2, because the games don’t normally come out on Nintendo hardware. Maybe Switch 2 can run it, maybe it can’t, we don’t know for sure because we don’t know the fine details of the system. The assumption that ray tracing will be the sticking point seems weird, for the reasons you state. I find it hard to believe that the Switch 2 will be inferior to the (eventual) minimum pc specs. That being said, the PR around a very downgraded port may still make it not worth it for Rockstar. Since neither the game nor the system are out yet it’s all a bit too speculative at this point.

Re: Zelda Producer Responds To Fans Who Want A More "Traditional Linear" Adventure

MSaturn

The dungeons were an improvement over BotW but still fell far short of the best traditional dungeons. In general, BotW had a lot of issues but got by on the strength of an incredibly fresh approach and the sheer fun of exploring the best designed open world I personally have ever played in. TotK also has a lot of problems (some the same, some different) but it is far less fresh and it reuses the map so the exploration element is mostly uninteresting now. IMO, no that that’s worth anything, I think if they’re going in this direction going forward, they need to give us an outstanding and fresh world to explore every single time. Because the gameplay itself is not that fun, it’s actually kind of a step backwards in a lot of ways. Obviously this is not the majority view but…

Re: Sega Plans To Revive Even "More" Legacy Franchises

MSaturn

Nights, Skies of Arcadia, Phantasy Star, Panzer Dragoon, Outrun, Burning Rangers, Shining Force, and this is only beginning to scratch the surface. They could go deeper… there was supposed to be a 3D Vectorman in the Dreamcast era, what if they bring that back? There are so many exciting possibilities!

Re: Talking Point: Which Zelda Game Should Be Adapted For The Movie?

MSaturn

I voted with my heart and chose A Link to the Past. It’s my favorite Zelda game (OoT is a close second) and I do think it has an interesting story that would benefit from being represented in a modern idiom. That said, if I use my head instead of my heart, I think it’s most likely that the movie will pull from a bunch of different things while essentially telling a new story, just like the Mario movie did.

Re: Soapbox: Six Months Later, Tears Of The Kingdom's Sense Of Wonder Is Still Unmatched

MSaturn

I was one of the people who expressed concern about this game before it was released and after the game came out I mostly have kept my mouth shut and just watched the general reaction. For whatever reason I choose now to say that I was completely correct in all of my concerns and ultimately did not like this game. I did three of the dungeons and an assortment of side quests and other things... I felt like I had to force myself to keep playing it. Eventually I put it down and have felt no desire to go back to it. I could not be more disappointed in it personally. I'm glad other people like it - truly - but for me personally the praise around this game has been kind of surreal. I don't think I've ever disagreed with the broad consensus on a game more strongly or completely. Speaking selfishly, the positive reaction to this game does bum me out because I assume they will be doubling down on this approach in future Zelda games (why would they change directions now?) and that may mean the end of my interest in this franchise, sadly.

Re: Reaction: What's Your Gut Feeling On The Zelda Movie News?

MSaturn

I have long thought that Zelda would be a difficult franchise to adapt. The story in the games is simple. The interest comes from the adventure, going to different places, solving puzzles, getting new items, facing bosses, etc. Leaning too hard into the narrative will not feel true to the real games - it will have that “fan fiction” feeling that a lot of game adaptations have. But actually presenting the game structure would not work on film. A careful balancing act is required. They could look to the manga from the 90s as a possible guide (I haven’t read the more recent mangas, they might give a clue too). Most likely it will turn out mediocre, like awkward fan fiction. Nevertheless I’m excited to see how they do.

Re: Hands On: Bluey: The Videogame, In Real Life

MSaturn

I’ve got my eye on this one. But I’m also curious if any of the Paw Patrol games the Outright Games published are any good? I think a new one just came out actually. I have two toddler girls and I already got them one of the Peppa Pig games which they liked okay. Christmas is coming up pretty soon, and I’ll definitely be getting at least one game for them. After having kids I’ve really noticed that these kinds of games don’t get any coverage in the gaming press - pretty much no reviews for example. So this Bluey article is appreciated!

Re: Talking Point: What's The Most Difficult Mainline Mario Game?

MSaturn

I mean, lost levels right? I think this gets as close to an objectively correct answer as these kinds of questions could ever get. I’m having trouble imagining arguments for any other game.

Edit: okay, I understand from the comments where people are coming from better. It’s interesting actually because some people seem to be proceeding along the lines of whichever game has the hardest level is ipso facto the hardest game - it’s got the hardest challenge after all! Whereas I was thinking more of content that you are required to get through to beat the game. Starting with Mario World, all the really difficult stuff is optional. I stand by my opinion that lost levels is the hardest game overall. Even the first world is not particularly easy!
