Looks like a fun game. Not the kind of IP that I would expect to be revived and a launch title exclusive for Switch 2. I might get it at some point when I get a Switch 2 but don't know if it's worth $49.99.
With how expensive Nintendo games are and I play on PS5 and other systems too, Switch has been on the backburner. And after the Switch 2 Direct, my Switch play time has gone down at least a bit.
@Jack_Goetz Me too. Between the NES games and other stuff, I don't see it. I don't even know if City Folk would ever be added if Wii games are added to NSO.
At my purchase (hopefully this year), none of the ones listed. I'll find some screen protector though right away or shortly after. I will want the Pro Controller and Camera.
@Maxz Right. It's in the weird in-between where you still have a tangible object and can lend/sell it but it's not actually playable without an internet download.
@Sirko Good question and I doubt it. For some reason, Switch and PS5 technically have browsers in them for subscription related things but lock you out of normal browsing.
@anoyonmus Nintendo has done plenty of surprising things, but they seem content to be done with New Horizons. We might see a native Switch 2 version, but I doubt it. I'm expecting the next mainline Animal Crossing as early as March 2026 and as late as November 2027. I'll be surprised if it takes until 2028. New Horizons took Animal Crossing from a notable Nintendo IP to one of their flagship IPs.
8/10 - Hardware is amazing, lots of third-party games, Mario Kart World looks like it will be the best to date, DK looks great. Kirby Air Riders is a pleasant surprise too. Can't get higher than an 8 due to widespread technical issues during the stream, not mentioning pricing of the hardware and games during the presentation, and bad decisions like charging for the Switch 2 tech demo. Also, no 3D Mario despite the fact that it surely has to be coming out November 2026 or sooner.
It's merely a prediction. But in the hopeful case where it is iterative, it had better be a generational upgrade in specs. Not reinventing the wheel while beefing up the specs a ton is usually great, a half measure in specs isn't.
Wii, 3DS, and Wii U all had Netflix. And then for some reason, Switch doesn't. I don't know if Switch 2 will have Twitch (due to Twitch's removal on Switch), but the other Switch streaming apps seem like a good fit. Add in Netflix, Disney+, Max, Paramount+, and maybe a few others (Amazon Prime, Apple TV) and you're golden. They also need to be better at getting them at launch. Hulu didn't arrive until November 2017, and YouTube took until November 2018.
Plenty of rumors will be inaccurate, so he's probably telling the truth. He's talking to investors here, I think. You can't lie to them without fines or legal trouble.
Switch 2 not being backwards compatible would be a massive anti-consumer move. Switch is the most profitable game platform to date, with a massive library (a lot of it is meh or shovelware, but there are at least dozens of must-play titles). Switch owners would love to take their games and move them over to a more capable system, especially if they go the Xbox/PlayStation route and boost some of the old game's performance. Imagine Zelda boosted with Switch 2 hardware without Nintendo making you have to get a Switch 2 remaster of the games. There is simply no rational argument for Switch 2 not to be backwards compatible unless kneeling to Nintendo is rational.
It better be a way shorter gap this time. Nintendo officially confirming the next platform with a codename or something similar and taking two more years will be brutal when the Switch is over 6 years old. The longest I want to wait for the next system to launch is March 2025. And even then, I really want it out November 2024 or before.
Launch New Leaf and New Leaf Welcome Amiibo are better than Launch New Horizons. NH launched without artwork, diving, and some other aspects. But End of 2020 or at the very least End of 2021 New Horizons is the best in the series. As much as I adore New Leaf (my most-played game of all-time) I can hardly pick it over New Horizons when New Horizons... -Has far more inventory and house storage -Lets you pick who comes and goes to your island and where they live -Essentially is more customizable and more quality of life.
I finally got this on Wii U the other day. My brother's DS copy which I had a character on was lost years ago. I'm enjoying the game so far. I do wish they would've put City Folk on the Wii U. I only played that one for about 10-15 hours I think and our disc stop working a long time ago.
2016 was really rough. I think the only Nintendo games I played that released that year were the western release of Fire Emblem: Fates and Mario Party: Star Rush. No Wii U games from 2016 interested me. Since I didn't have a gaming PC, PS4, or Xbox One, there was a record low of games released in 2016 that I could play.
@westman98 I attribute New Horizon's Earth-shattering success to several things. 1. About 7 years (give or take a few months depending on the region) since New Leaf was released. While New Leaf was a smash hit, plenty of people who played the earlier games likely never touched it. Also, those who did were very hyped to finally play another game. The hype factor from Nintendo is also part of this big point I'm making. The way they trickled out information for the game was brilliant, even if it was frustrating to wait so long for details. 2. There are more Switches sold right now than there were previous Nintendo platforms (minus the Wii) at this time in its life. And then there are millions of people who were finally going to get Animal Crossing for the Switch. More people I think than even Smash or Mario. 3. COVID-19. America is Nintendo's biggest market, and has been hit heavily by the pandemic. More people staying home (whether unemployed or not) and wanting something positive to enjoy is where Animal Crossing can shine. 4. Nostalgia for the older titles. There are probably some people who played the original AC and Wild World that didn't keep up after that. Now with a new AC on a hybrid platform, they can jump back in.
A soft, dry cloth isn't going to disinfect or remove germs and sweat. I keep my controllers clean, and I'm really the only one who uses them. But a few times a year I use rubbing alcohol on them. If that damages my controllers a bit, so be it.
@personauser93 Right. New Leaf did get a massive free update in 2016, but that was to expand the game. New Leaf was very much a complete game when it released in Japan in late 2012 and mid-2013 in the other regions. New Horizons is mostly complete, but adding updates for something as basic as the holidays and potentially returning special characters is ridiculous.
@MoonKnight7 Yeah. It was a pit in my stomach. I have a feeling that a main Animal Crossing title on Wii U would've probably just been New Leaf 2.0 (so the Wild World to City Folk transition all over again), but it still would've been nice.
Haven't played the spin-offs (minus a few minutes of Pocket Camp and never booted it up again), so here's what I think.
4. City Folk: My least-played Animal Crossing. I have almost no distinct memories with this one, because I stopped playing it within a month or two. It doesn't help that I played the original and Wild World in 2007, so this was coming only a year after that. In a vacuum, City Folk is at least as good as Wild World and maybe even the original. But it didn't offer enough new things, and introduced the dreaded grass deterioration. It's the black sheep of the main series it seems, despite being released on the crazy popular Wii. 3. Wild World: Despite losing many features of the original, it added a ton as well. I'm sure it hasn't aged the best, but I remember it being great. I don't think we'd have Animal Crossing as a phenomenon without this title. 2. Animal Crossing: This one has aged so well, especially considering the N64 graphics. I go back to it at least every few years and I adore the atmosphere. This was my first Animal Crossing, and a very strong start for the series. 1. New Leaf: My most-played game of all-time. A masterpiece full of old and new, and brought the series to new heights. New Horizons: I didn't number it because I don't think I can be completely fair until I've paid off most of my house, experienced some holidays, have 10 villagers, more seasons, etc. My first impressions are that it's probably the best. Despite only having 8 new villagers and removing a lot of past special characters and cool new features from New Leaf, it's mostly amazing.
Animal Crossing: New Leaf was the first masterpiece in the series to me, earning a 10/10 in my eyes. It's my most-played game ever. New Horizons will likely be another masterpiece.
Cool. I'll probably pre-order from Target. The million dollar question though is when we'll get details of a Switch bundle. It's inevitable. My brother is getting a Switch when Animal Crossing comes out, and he would want to get a bundle.
I grew up on the original Lego Star Wars games. I even played The Clone Wars and The Force Awakens. Lego games aren't typically too demanding, so it's no surprise The Skywalker Saga will run well on Switch. As for me, I'll stick to the PS4. Trophies alone tip the scale for me in multiplats.
I want it on Switch. The main TV in the house is a Vizio, and can not run Disney+ directly or even through smartcasting. Better to have my Switch hooked up in the living room than my PS4 Pro, especially since I'm using my PS4 Pro a lot more right now than my Switch.
GameCube stopped reading discs in 2007 after we'd had it for about 4 years. We didn't treat it the best, but it could've been treated worse.
The Wii needed to be brought to a game store in summer of 2010 to fix the disc drive. We got it for Christmas 2010. Brawl keeps having disc read errors, and Animal Crossing: City Folk won't work either.
My Nintendo 3DS needed to be brought to a game store in Fall 2014 to fix the shoulder buttons. They probably had some dust, and were stuck in place.
The Switch hasn't given me any notable problems yet. The Wii U never gave me any troubles, nor did the DS or GBA.
Well, yes. I don't want a rushed game, and I don't want developers to be crunched. But who oversees and schedules games? How can it take 7 years to get a new main installment in a major Nintendo franchise like Animal Crossing. Nintendo still won't address why we've waited so long.
The only good things about it getting delayed into March 2020 is that it gives us a really popular Nintendo IP to play in the first quarter of the year and that it will probably make the game even better than it could be.
I still think they could've skipped Amiibo Festival and Happy Home Designer. That likely would've gotten AC out in 2016 for Wii U or 2017-2018 on Switch.
It would be terrible if we see the first footage and details at E3 only to learn that the game is delayed into 2020. If the game is delayed, I think we'll learn in late summer or fall.
A delay is very possible, but I would be shocked if it didn't come out until the second half of 2020. We'd get the game in June 2020 or before.
This is the only Wii U port I have on Switch, unless you count BOTW. But that was more a dual-release. I do worry about this because it seems to encourage Nintendo to release a bunch of Wii U ports at $60. I could care less about Wii U ports if they were a lot cheaper and not treated like new titles.
I've unfortunately never played a Metroid game for more than a few minutes. The Metroid Prime Trilogy is somewhere in my backlog. I'm glad they have the humility to acknowledge they aren't meeting expectations. When the game was first announced, I expected a 2019 release. Then after years of nothing, 2020. Now, I see Holiday 2021 as the earliest possible release date.
Let's hope Animal Crossing isn't delayed. It already seems like it may not come out until the holiday season, and I really don't want it delayed into 2020.
@BigMac1204 Yes, you should. I have put over 120 hours into the game since I got it in July. An open-ended game with so much to do for so cheap is cool.
I already have New Super Marios Bros. U and New Super Luigi U. Didn't love them enough to justify paying $60 for this. But I do think this game will sell well. There is certainly an audience for it.
I don't want a Super Mario Maker port or deluxe. I want a sequel. Even if it's not drastically different or more content-packed than the first, there's enough potential. Add slopes, improve the sharing system, add another graphic style or so, some new premade levels and skins. After that, we're good.
Prefer physical so that I don't have to buy too much in microSD storage and I like to hold a game case and card in my hand. Not to mention there are great sales in retail sometimes, plus used game possibilities.
I only have Super Mario Party and Stardew Valley in digital. With Stardew Valley, I didn't have a choice.
They're joking right? I suck at Smash compared to tournament players and I still unlocked the characters within a few days of getting the game. If anything, I see the unlocking as trouble for casual players.
We need dedicated servers, plus SNES through to GameCube games if this service is going to cost money. I would've never gotten it in this state if it didn't include cloud saves and could be purchased using gold points. Nintendo Switch Online is really, really bad.
Honestly, get Red Dead Redemption ported to Switch first. Then wait for a Switch Pro or a Switch 2 to attempt Red Dead Redemption 2. I also think Nintendo and Rockstar should be working to get GTA V on Switch.
If it's not crossplay, don't think I would get any use. My cousin has Stardew Valley on Switch, but barely plays it. Was hoping to play with my brother who has it on PC.
This seems inevitable. Zelda games get ports and remakes left and right. Considering the motion controls on the Switch, this could work well. Also, it's the only old 3D Zelda not get the remake treatment yet. I've never played it, but the Switch would be the perfect time. I wonder if Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD will get ported to Switch.
That's ok. I missed out on the game, but after playing the other two Xenoblade Chronicles games, I want to play this one now. Would probably get it used, because I think it's really cheap.

Re: Animal Crossing: New Horizons Sold 11.77 Million Copies In Just 12 Days

I attribute New Horizon's Earth-shattering success to several things.
1. About 7 years (give or take a few months depending on the region) since New Leaf was released. While New Leaf was a smash hit, plenty of people who played the earlier games likely never touched it. Also, those who did were very hyped to finally play another game. They're joking right? I suck at Smash compared to tournament players and I still unlocked the characters within a few days of getting the game. If anything, I see the unlocking as trouble for casual players.
Re: Reggie: Don't Expect Nintendo Switch Online To "Mirror" The Competition
We need dedicated servers, plus SNES through to GameCube games if this service is going to cost money. I would've never gotten it in this state if it didn't include cloud saves and could be purchased using gold points.
Nintendo Switch Online is really, really bad.
Re: Reggie: Nintendo Would "Love" Red Dead Redemption 2 On Switch
Honestly, get Red Dead Redemption ported to Switch first. Then wait for a Switch Pro or a Switch 2 to attempt Red Dead Redemption 2. I also think Nintendo and Rockstar should be working to get GTA V on Switch.
Re: Chucklefish Confirms Stardew Valley's Multiplayer Update For Nintendo Switch Is On The Way
If it's not crossplay, don't think I would get any use. My cousin has Stardew Valley on Switch, but barely plays it. Was hoping to play with my brother who has it on PC.
Re: Rumour: The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword Is Taking To The Skies On Switch
This seems inevitable. Zelda games get ports and remakes left and right. Considering the motion controls on the Switch, this could work well. Also, it's the only old 3D Zelda not get the remake treatment yet. I've never played it, but the Switch would be the perfect time. I wonder if Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD will get ported to Switch.
Re: Dead Or Alive Xtreme 3: Scarlet Is Splashing Onto The Switch Early Next Year
Well didn't expect this at all. I guess they figure the market's there?
Re: Monolith Soft Director Would "Love" Xenoblade Chronicles X On Switch, Money Stands In The Way
That's ok. I missed out on the game, but after playing the other two Xenoblade Chronicles games, I want to play this one now. Would probably get it used, because I think it's really cheap.
