"Maybe it's these old eyes, but I'm not seeing a massive difference and SW1 holds it's own there."
Personally I see a big difference.
If one do not see a difference or much difference, it might have something to do with the screen you are watching the video on and/or the youtube settings.
If the screen is small, it might be harder to see much difference. The native resolution and quality of the screen is also important.
If the youtube quality (resolution on youtube) is on a low setting the quality of the game visuals will not be represented correctly, Switch 2 quality in particular.
Would be amusing if the McDonald's versions of Rya, Chun-Li and Ken not only had different colors, but also a somewhat different physique.

If one look away from Paulines extra height in Odessey, where she was a part of New Donkey City which had those very human looking humans, and instead look at Paulines adult design as of 2025:
In Mario Kart World adult Pauline seems to be about the same height as DK.
DK have the same new design in Mario Kart World and Bananza.
This means 13-year-old Pauline is about half the height of adult Pauline, and that just does not make much sense in my opinion.
Would make more sense height-wise if she was maybe 4–5-year-old.
There is a possibility Donkey Kong is larger in Bananza, than in Mario Kart World, but it would have to be a lot larger than in Mario Kart World for the height of young Pauline to start making sense. Maybe as big as he was in the original Donkey Kong arcade game.
But there is something about the design of Pauline.
She seems very small for a 13-year-old, especially compared to her grown appearance in Odessey, where she was maybe 3-4 times as tall as she is in Bananza?
According to the all-knowing internet, girls usually stop growing when they are 14-15 years old.
(Such extreme growth can only be explained by eating a lot of mushrooms.
Or could this Pauline be the daugther of Odesseys Pauline and Mario? Mario is half the height of Pauline in Odessey.
... I am joking.)
Her grown up height is somewhat lower in Mario Kart World, Mario Kart Tour and Mario Golf: Super Rush though, but still.
I get they want her small when she clings on to DK,
but maybe they should have just made her younger so the height seemed more natural.
And maybe dropped the heavy makeup.
Perhaps they wanted her to be 13 to have her singing voice not be too childlike.
I get this is fiction and a video game.
But when I see this character she sort of looks like a mix of a small child and a teenager/young adult. This is because of the height, head/body reatio, the makeup, and other design choices.
1. "glances longingly at the Switch OLED's screen"
Really?
Comparing the Switch OLED side by side with Switch 2, both set to maximum brightness.
In my opinion the Switch 2 screen wins easily:
7.9 inch vs 7 inch
1080p vs 720p
HDR vs no HDR
VRR vs no VRR
A lot of fps vs less fps
Perfect colour balance. The white is truly white. vs the screen (at least my) has a slight greenish tint.
The colours pop on both screens in my opinion.
Also: Not having OLED on Switch 2 makes the expensive Switch 2, not even more expensive.
Of course - down the road, a few of years from now, there will surely be an upgraded version of the Switch 2, that will have an even bigger and better screen. But will the difference be as big as when the Switch 1 got the OLED update? I don't think so.
Yes, the Switch OLEDs black levels are slightly more black than the Switch 2s, but the difference is really not that big.
Of course - The Switch 2s future upgrade will have a better OLED screen than the Switch 1 OLED. The tech moves forward.
2. "You'll get used to the upgrades very quickly"
To me the Switch 2 with all its upgrades still feels fresh.
And even if one gets used to them. Does it make the console worse?
Does it make you want to play the Switch 1 more?
3. "Battery life is just 'acceptable' - don't leave home without the charger"
Ok. It could have been better.
But I don't think approximately 2 to 6.5 hours is that bad.
It's a balancing act for both cost and size.
I think 256 GB is fine.
It will not fill up that fast if one buys physical games. (Nintendos own games all come on carts.)
Also: One can just buy memory cards.
If you wanted more storage space in the Switch 2, the console would have cost even more.
Now those that need the extra space can spend that money on one or more memory cards.
5. "The jury's still out on the new Joy-Con sticks' durability"
Why would they not be durable?
I'm pretty sure Nintendo have learned from the failure of the Nintendo Switch 1 Joy cons. And it was especially the early ones that had problems.
I have 3 pair of joy cons and of those 6, only one had drifting - and that one was from the original launch day Switch.
To me the Switch 2 just oozes of quality.
It just looks and feels like a premium product, and it truly is.
I'm surprised the upgraded screen gets no love at all in the Pros column.
Bigger, better resolution, HDR, VRR. And the colours and image quality are really good, even though it’s not an OLED.
Joy con mice!
And - magnetic joy cons. They are just so cool. And they are so stable - like they are part of the console, not like the wobbly Joy cons rails on Switch 1.
I think a portion of people only read the Conclusion, Joys, Cons and Score of the review.
And for these, the Switch 2 Edition Conclusion, Joys, Cons and Score could be rather misleading and confusing.
It does not get less confusing as just below the Score one find these two:
1. "Scoring Policy". Wich focus on games as a whole, and not the new parts of an update.
2. A poll: "What score would you give The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition (Switch 2)?"
"Please note voting will score the game in your games collection"
With the wording of the poll and the fact the score is added to ones game collection I think most or many people will vote what they think of the game as a whole and not just what they think of the "updated" parts - regardsless if they read the whole review and understood this was a review for the updated parts only.
An idea:
I suggest putting the text you have at the top under the Conlusion headline, maybe in cursive:
"Our existing reviews — in this case for Breath of the Wild, both the Wii U and Switch versions, and the DLC — are still live and relevant. If you're coming to this game fresh, we recommend you look back at those first. Our NS2 Edition reviews will focus on new features and upgrades, evaluating what they add to the original experience, and whether they're worth your time - and they will be scored accordingly."
Another idea:
Why not have two scores at the bottom?
One score for the game as a whole.
One score for the updated parts alone.
It would bring total clarity to the Switch 2 version reviews.
Also it could stop Switch 2 version games from ranking unfairly low in review lists on nintendolife. Especially for people who are new to the games and did not play them on Switch 1.
"Remember when the Wii U was considered powerful? Yeah, me neither."
The Wii U was the most powerful console on the market for a year: November 2012 to November 2013.
Then PS4 and Xbox One came along...
Xbox 360 (Nov 2005)
PlayStation 3 (Nov 2006)
PlayStation 3 Slim (Sept 2009)
Xbox 360 S (July 2010)
PlayStation 3 Super Slim (Sept 2012)
Wii U (Nov 2012)
Xbox 360 E (June 2013)
PlayStation 4 (Nov 2013)
Xbox One (Nov 2013)
If I had to pick one to have on the wall I would pick the Japnese one no doubt, but as a game cover I think the North America/Europe one is better for the job. It just shows more action and what the game is about.
@Olliemar28
"I do find it funny, by the way, that Nintendo wanted to specifically avoid referencing the SNES with the Switch 2's name, and now it's done this!"
Yes, but it was Nintendo (of Japan) that wanted to avoid that, and the commerical is the work of Nintendo of America. And I don't think the commercial will confuse anybody concerning that it's for the Switch 2 and that the Switch 2 is Nintendos new console.
"Kawamoto:
There were a lot of ideas for the name, and we really struggled to find the right one. We even considered ideas like "Super Nintendo Switch". However, Super NES (27), which came out after the NES (28), couldn’t play NES games. Since Switch 2 can play Switch games, it didn't feel right to use the same naming convention as Super NES. Switch 2 is a new console with improved performance, but we'd like players who get their hands on it not to focus on the specs, but rather to think of it as the latest console developed by Nintendo. So in the hope that it becomes the new standard for Nintendo Switch, we named it Nintendo Switch 2." https://www.nintendo.com/en-gb/News/2025/April/Ask-the-Developer-Vol-16-Nintendo-Switch-2-Chapter-4-2787954.html
I have to agree with Nintendo of Japan concerning the name.
I think Nintendo Switch 2 is much more easily understood by people in general than "Super Nintendo Switch" would be. They don't want a new Wii U situation.
I don't really like the sound of the bonus roulette. Sounds like it's completely outside the game world. Like using amiibo for bonuses. Feels like a cheat.
Would be better if the bonuses were included inside the game world.
For weapons repair maybe a smith that can repair weapons. And that it takes some in game time for it to get done. Also, it costs materials - like with clothes upgrades, or rupees.
Other bonuses could be included in a new type of in game minigame.
@Manguy888A
"It’s very surprising that we don’t have a MP4 release date. With the amount of gameplay we’re seeing, I wonder if they are still working out the final bugs, or if they are more sitting on it to pick a good spot to release it.
It’s strange to have a game that both feels like a switch 2 launch title and doesn’t have a release date at all"
I think Nintendo is spacing their big games out, maybe even more so now because of the high prices of the Switch2, Switch2 accosseries and Switch2 games.
I think MP4 will be Nintendos next big game release after Donkey Kong Bananza. Maybe autumn 2025.
@RubyCarbuncle "Wasn't planning on buying it anyway but I was considering it however after hearing this I have no desire at all. I'll stick to my Switch version thanks."
A hub to explore for tutorials, tech info, tech-demos and mini-games.
"Should 'Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour' Be A Pack-In Game?"
Yes. It seems to be the one thing that people and the gaming press did not like in the Switch 2 Direct. I think Nintendo would be better off if it was free.
"At least, at the time of writing, the game looks like it'll be under $10"
The price might be acceptable. I would say it depends on the final price compared to the amount and quality of the mini games. But Nintendo still failed. Because if this turnes out to be an ok price, then Nintendo should have shown more about the minigames and the low price in the Direct so people would get the impression that this is just as much a game as a tuturial/tech showcase/tech demo.
@Novamii "That singular sideways joy-con seals the deal. (...) On the subject of games that'd work great with mouse, I can't believe Pikmin never crossed my mind!"
Playing Pikmin with a Joycon 2 as a mouse would be interesting. I loved the stylus control for Pikmin 3 on Wii U.
I think the main character in "Misc. A Tiny Tale" looks more charming than the main character in "koRobo", but both designs need some more work in my opinion. Neither comes close to the main character in Cibi-Robo.

Well. People and companies are not perfect.

Nintendo did not call the Switch 2, "Switch U", so they are clearly capable of this.
Nintendo has now had 8 years to make Joy-Cons without drifting issues.
Seems to me Nintendo has improved all aspects of the Switch 1 with the Switch 2, I think that also includes the Joy-cons drifting issues.

For some reason I have a feeling not all who rated this poorly actually played the game.
Could it be some people voted 1/10 without playing it?
Re: Review: The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - The Best Way To Play, But 'Zelda Notes' Sucks
@Olliemar28

@HotGoomba
"Remember when the Wii U was considered powerful? Yeah, me neither."
The Wii U was the most powerful console on the market for a year: November 2012 to November 2013.
Then PS4 and Xbox One came along...
Xbox 360 (Nov 2005)
PlayStation 3 (Nov 2006)
PlayStation 3 Slim (Sept 2009)
Xbox 360 S (July 2010)
PlayStation 3 Super Slim (Sept 2012)
Wii U (Nov 2012)
Xbox 360 E (June 2013)
PlayStation 4 (Nov 2013)
Xbox One (Nov 2013)

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl - Duel: Pikmin (GameCube)
If I had to pick one to have on the wall I would pick the Japnese one no doubt, but as a game cover I think the North America/Europe one is better for the job. It just shows more action and what the game is about.
Re: Paul Rudd Returns In An Awesome SNES-Style Switch 2 Commercial
@Olliemar28
So in the hope that it becomes the new standard for Nintendo Switch, we named it Nintendo Switch 2."
https://www.nintendo.com/en-gb/News/2025/April/Ask-the-Developer-Vol-16-Nintendo-Switch-2-Chapter-4-2787954.html
I have to agree with Nintendo of Japan concerning the name.
I think Nintendo Switch 2 is much more easily understood by people in general than "Super Nintendo Switch" would be. They don't want a new Wii U situation.
Re: You Can Finally Repair Weapons In Zelda: BOTW And TOTK On Switch 2 (Sort Of)
I don't really like the sound of the bonus roulette.
Re: Community: The Results Are In - These Are Your Most (And Least) Wanted Switch 2 Games
@Manguy888A
"It’s very surprising that we don’t have a MP4 release date.

Re: Nintendo Expects You To Pay For Its Switch 2 "Welcome Tour" User Guide
A hub to explore for tutorials, tech info, tech-demos and mini-games.
That costs money.
How should one feel about it?
I would say it depends on the price compared to the amount and quality of the mini games.
From what one saw in the trailer, I think most people probably did not feel that great about it. Did not seem to be that many minigames?
I think it was a big mistake to not name the price and number of minigames.
Perhaps it would be better if the tutorials, tech info and tech-demos were free, while the mini-games were a low price, paid DLC package.
And of course better still if it was all free, as I thought it was, until that man said it costs money.

I think the main character in "Misc. A Tiny Tale" looks more charming than the main character in "koRobo", but both designs need some more work in my opinion. Neither comes close to the main character in Cibi-Robo.
