Re: Mario Sports Superstars Heading to Europe on 10th March

Linkstrikesback

"By tapping a Mario Sports Superstars series amiibo card, players can unlock the Star version of the corresponding character in the corresponding sport. A Star character has stronger stats than its regular counterpart, giving that character an edge in that particular sport. And by tapping up to three amiibo cards, players can participate in the Road to Superstar mode. Completing this mode will bestow Superstar status on their characters, giving an even greater boost to their stats."

Makes this game the easiest non-purchase ever.

Re: Pokémon Bank Update Adds Support for Pokémon Sun & Moon

Linkstrikesback

@Arcamenel
Because prior to the internet gen, you weren't even supposed to be playing the games alone - you were supposed to play with your friend(s)/siblings/significant other who got other versions, so that you could "catch them all". No sane person went out and bought another console to trade with themselves, certainly not anyone who is complaining about a £4.49 fee.

It never cost me a penny extra because I'd already have link cables to play games with friends (including pokemon for battles!), and we'd just let the others use our systems to transfer...

Re: Miyamoto on the Reasoning Behind Super Mario Run's Pricing

Linkstrikesback

Bunch of people complaining about always online when they 've probably not been away from internet access for a significant period for years. Lord forbid you can safely assume that a person willing to drop hundreds of pounds on the typical iOS device also has wifi access or a 3g or better plan.

Those 500m+ downloads of pokemon go all had to have internet access outside somehow. I think they'll be fine.

Re: Video: See Splatoon's Shiny New H-3 Nozzlenose D & Luna Blaster Neo in Action

Linkstrikesback

Weapons are ok, but I don't care enough to boot splatoon to just look at that.

October is the first month where we didn't get a new stage since release, which makes me think development is winding down (if it hasn't already wound down already), or they're saving stuff for a paid update. I hope they're not because that'll fracture the userbase, and I don't play splatoon enough anymore to justify a paid update on top (possibly twice since I also use two wii us...)

Re: Nintendo's UK Store Gives Free eShop Copy of Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer Following Order Delay

Linkstrikesback

They won't be giving you a code now if you order now...

The point of it is "Sorry, we couldn't get your preorder to you on release date, have this in the meantime".

You may well have noticed, if you've looked at a calendar, that the release date was friday , i.e. yesterday. You won't get anything (other than what you buy, obviously) if you order now.

Besides that, I haven't gotten my preorder which I placed a while ago, nor a download code yet >_>. Time for complaining, me thinks.

Re: IRONHAX to Use Free-to-Play IRONFALL Invasion to Run 3DS Homebrew and Region-Free Workaround

Linkstrikesback

I would love for a free to play game to open the 3DS for playing backups. I really would love to turn some of my retail games into download versions without paying nintendos ridiculous eshop prices (When compared to retail).

Being able to buy a retail cart, back it up and then play it anywhere with me is just so ideal for me for a handheld system. If I have to use a card, I can only take one of my nearly 40 3DS retail games with me. If this works, I can have them all at once (and maybe even my 60+ DS games too!), and it'd be glorious.

Re: Feature: Explaining Humble Bundle and What it Could Mean for Nintendo and Nindies

Linkstrikesback

"DRM-free downloads, remember. "

No they aren't. Not even close. You get an eshop code that can be used once on one machine. You can then never move it off that one machine (except a transfer which erases it and everything else off the source machine.

That's the very defintion of DRM. Normal humble bundles are DRM free because you can download a .exe and then copy it ad nauseum if you want to a million pc's.

Re: Rumour: 2015 Sonic Title To Hit Wii U Alongside PS4 and Xbox One

Linkstrikesback

"Sonic Adventure 3" already happened, twice. They called them "Sonic heroes" and then "Sonic the hedgehog" (a.k.a Sonic 06).
They were both horrible games (just like the originals are by todays standards, they aged terribly).

The only sequels sega should be considering even slightly are "Sonic Colours 2" or "Sonic Generations 2".

Re: Poll: Have Your Say on Satoru Iwata's Nintendo Strategies

Linkstrikesback

I'd be excited for DS virtual console on wii u, except for the fact that Nintendo has done an absolutely terrible job with Virtual Console on both the 3DS and Wii U.

At the absolute very best, we get a slightly better slow trickle of games. At worst, this means we get even fewer SNES games. (And we're unlikely to get many of the games I really want, like pokemon/ the world ends with you)

Re: Preview: Japanese Gamers Get Their Free Super Mario Bros. Deluxe Download

Linkstrikesback

@ikki5
Yeah.
We can get free wii points. At the low low price of 4000 stars, i.e. 16 full wii u games/20 full 3ds games, you can get 1000 wii points, i.e. enough for a single N64 game, and they only apply to wii vc or wiiware games. Nothing on 3ds.

Whereas you can get 70 or so coins if you do all the extra things per game, and the downloads cost 150-200 coins, i.e. somewhere between 2 and 3 games.

It's not even close to equal.

Re: Fresh 2013 UK Hardware Sales Figures Keep 3DS on Top, While Wii U Sells Less Than Vita

Linkstrikesback

Wow, that's enough spin to keep the galaxy orbitting.

A 40% increase yoy for the wii u is absolutely terrible news, given it was on the market for nearly 12 times as long this year. (It launched on the last day of novermber in 2013 in the uk).

And only a 4% increase for 3ds when they dropped the pokebomb (As well as all the other amazing titles this year) isn't reassuring either,

Re: Feature: Nintendo Games We'd Love to See in 2014

Linkstrikesback

Wow, Metroid Prime IV is winning the "favourite from this list" poll at the moment.

Shame it's not going to happen in 2014. Retro took 2 years to put out metroid prime 2 and that was when they already had everything left over from Metroid prime 1 ready to speed up development.

They can't possibly made a Metroid prime 4 properly in around a year after finishing DK Tropical freeze. (Though I would dearly love to be wrong)

Re: Poll: As the PS4 Arrives, What Do You Think of the 'New Gen' Environment for Wii U?

Linkstrikesback

@3wdiisu
A no name site, with no source or proof is your argument?

Lol. So anyone who can make a webpage and put stuff on it is automatically telling the truth. Yeah, no. Show a big site or an interview with a sony employee where they said it, because that is trolling, pulled right out of the arse of that webpage maker to get hits.

@darkgamer001
Sony announced a ton of stuff long before Microsoft. For those with short memories, they absolutely blindsided Microsoft with the PS4 announcements months before microsoft had anything to say about the xbone. At the time, they said that the strategy they were going to take would be the "one that does right by gamers", or something along those lines. I find it very hard to imagine translating that into restrictive DRM.

@ LDXD

Then explain why people aren't buying the Wii U. Either you think Nintendo games have gotten significantly less desirable (i.e. worse), or they have competition. Pick one. Or give a valid third option, but that would contradict what you're already saying.

Re: Pokémon Bank Pricing Emerges For Europe

Linkstrikesback

I'm not happy with any pricing over £0 for transferring pokemon. They had better give a 30 day free trial with every new pokemon game that comes out if they do intend this to permanently replace in game generation transfers.

And £4.50 is too much for such a meager amount of storage, but whatever. A fool and his money and all that.

Re: Poll: As the PS4 Arrives, What Do You Think of the 'New Gen' Environment for Wii U?

Linkstrikesback

All I'm going to say is, if the PS4 doesn't do significantly better than the Wii U is going to, the entire industry is in some serious, serious trouble. If all 3 did about what the wii u is likely to do (say 30m , and that's very generous, since it's more likely to be ~20m) it would mean that roughly 2/3rds of the market just vanished in the course of a single generation.

Re: Shigeru Miyamoto Clarifies That Local Multiplayer is Still the Priority for Mario

Linkstrikesback

@LunaticPandora
I forgot nothing. Wii U is currently doing significantly worse than the gamecube.
http://img18.imageshack.us/img18/4523/61jf.png

At least, those are only US numbers, but it's pretty similar everywhere.

@Einjhar

"But if that is your general situation, you should consider changing it."

I should consider dropping out of getting a successful career because of videogames and nintendo being incompetent? I moved to a new university to begin getting a Ph.D last month and everyone I knew went their separate ways. I would dearly love to play New Super Mario Bros U/2 with my friends, but Nintendo won't let me.

"mario game 3+ times and tell me, if there is any challenge left that would make you say "i need to play that game online again" "

It's a little something called "fun". There is something inately fun in being able to play video games with friends, even if you've played it through before. Yes. I would like to "play that game online again" if I was doing it with friends. It's the same as sports: I sure as heck didn't give up playing football because "we've done it before 3+ times".

Coincidentally, This is part of the reason I know no-one else who has bought a wii u. They'd have jumped on it if that meant they could continue to play multiplayer games over the internet, but nintendo is still stuck in the early 90's in regard to the super scary internets.

Re: Shigeru Miyamoto Clarifies That Local Multiplayer is Still the Priority for Mario

Linkstrikesback

@Einherjar That's not a fact, that is something you just made up on the spot.

You must be moderately young still, as real life clearly hasn't hit you yet with the reality that everyone has responsibilities that mean they will eventually be forced to move away from people that they would like to play games with.

I know tens, maybe even a hundred + people I have met that I would LOE to be able to play Mario Multiplayer with. But almost all of them live hundreds of miles away now.

If you really think that "Onlne MP degraded itself to foul mouthing, smack talking, and elitist sub groups and is in no way compareable to a local MP round." I can only presume that your friends don't have an internet connection? Otherwise, either you and your friends are already in one of those groups, or you are wrong.

(Hint, it's probably the fact that you are a short sighted fool, like the people at nintendo making these decisions).

@Jared1984

"They'll buy it anyway".

Right, that's exactly why wii u is currently on track to being the biggest failure of a console launch outside of the virtual boy that Nintendo has ever had.
