Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's Focus on the 3DS eShop

Linkstrikesback

@Chriiis
So? It's an easily solved problem. Include a single use code in the game box. Then have the downloads only be accessible for 7 days after the last time you played with the physical game card., If you want to refresh the 7 day limit, just put the card in again.

Re: Watch the European 3DS Nintendo Direct Here

Linkstrikesback

Nintendo Europe must be morons. £39.99 for brand new games, such as New Super MArio bros 2, was already ridiculous. Putting games that are months or even over a year old at this point is downright the stupidest decision they could possibly make.

"But there's a dark side to this tale. Towards the show's close, a few of us encountered gaming's most famous siblings once more. They were being led back towards their company's stand by their arms, looking as happy as ever, and for a brief moment Mike's inner child lurched out. He extended his arm to high five Luigi, full of hope... only to be left hanging, ignored, abandoned and embarrassed as the plumbers walked straight past. Let this be a lesson to you: never meet your heroes."

To be fair, the guy in the luigi suit could probably barely see anything. I've worn a full body mascot suit at charity events before, and boy is it difficult to avoid walking in to things, let alone actually interacting with people (especially when you're not expecting it).

Re: Witness Layton's 'Last Adventure' In New 3DS Trailer

Linkstrikesback

I know we've got 3 more layton games (5, 6 and Vs Phoenix Wright), but I'll be darned if I don't admit it.

I want more! I seriously hope this isn't the last "Layton" game. Even if we get more layton styled games, it just won't be the same with a different protagonist.

I always assumed (read: hoped) that after layton 6, we would go back to the future and join in where the ending of game 3 left off, when Luke sent a letter to Layton asking for his help.

Also: This game is gonna be the most depressing of all, Emmy has to either die or be forcibly removed somehow to explain her disappearance in the original trilogy. And you know it's going to be the last thing that happens in the game too, because Level 5 sure wouldn't break their running combo and let a Layton game (or film) end on a happy note.

Re: Super Mario 3D Land Clone Hits iPhone, and Looks Rubbish

Linkstrikesback

@NTELLIGENTMAN
No, clearly, you're the foolish one.
Super Mario 3d land has sold over 5.8 million copies worldwide (and this number was only from the end of march this year, no doubt the number has gone up significantly). Now, lets really lowball the profit nintendo made, and say they only make $20 per copy sold.

They would need to sell over 116 million copies to break even on that. Needless to say, that would not happen on 3DS. So lets assume you meant an iOS release.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2184464/Will-Apple-sell-250m-new-iPhone-5.html

There are only roughly 240m iphone units of all models 1-4s combined (barring sales numbers for the new iphone 5). But anything below 4 is extremely unlikely to run anything the 3DS can. (Heck, even the 4th model couldn't run the updated iOS version of TWEWY), but lets be nice and assume they can get it running on 4,4s for now, giving them around 235m units of potential customers.

They'd still need an almost 50% sellthrough rate to break even with selling it on their own hardware.
And thats without apples cut.
Or the money they made from selling 3DS consoles that were bought because of 3D land.

They absolutely would not make more money by releasing it on iOS at $.99

Just in case anyone is going to order from Zavvi, you can get a further 5% off if you are making a new account using the following discount code before you checkout.

ZV16398027

I already preordered mine from there, and though I've only bought two things before from them (Pandoras tower special edition and resi,: revelations), they both came on time, and I don't actually mind too much if the Wii U does come a few weeks late like people are mentioning they've experienced from zavvi before, because by November 30th, I'm almost in university exam season.

@KenB
Just over £3 (for 2 pint glasses of pepsi/coke), 0 on the other two. What can I say, I'm a cheapass.

Re: Wii U Price And Release Dates Confirmed

Linkstrikesback

Wow. If those are really the trade prices for the Wii U in the UK, absolutely no way I'm buying one.

I'm sorry, but I REFUSE to almost as much for a basic bundle in the UK/Europe as Japan and America pay for a Premium bundle. (Japan prices include tax, and Americans tax varies by region, but still...see numbers below).

Prices for Wii U in Japan (Tax inc)
Basic: 26,250 Yen
Premium 31,500 Yen

PRices for Wii u in NA:
Basic: $299.99
Premium $349.99

UK price +VAT according to trade price = £246
£246 is 30788 Yen. Barely less than the Japanese price for PREMIUM. Now, currently, the lowest price I can see for preorder is £250, which is even closer to the Japanese Premium price.
When compared with the NA price, £246 is an almost $400. $50 more than the premium NA price (without tax, might be around even when it's accounted for)

And then we get on to the premium price. Oh god.
UK premium = £295.20 at minimum, again, assuming the above trade price is correct.

That translates to nearly $477 dollars, or 37,000 Yen. Feel free to laugh at the EU now.

I wish, just once, we could get fair pricing in the UK ;-;

/rant over.

I guess I'll see you in 6 months at that price drop you've got scheduled Nintendo!

Re: Round Up: Wii U Launch Window Games

Linkstrikesback

In case anyone missed it on the cheat sheet that popped up during the nintendo direct, Europes launch day titles are
Fifa 13, Mass Effect 3 ,Nano Assault Hero ,New Super Mario Bros. U ,Nintendo Land, Rayman Legends, Trine 2,Toki Tori 2, ZombiU

@tealovertoma

It's redundant. Anyone who is going to spend enough on Wii U DLC/eShop games to need a 500GB hard drive would be better off getting the wii u premium version, so as to have the 10% discount on eShop titles.

Re: Wii U ZombiU Premium Pack Confirmed for EU

Linkstrikesback

It's a shame that Zombi U looks set to be the "Red Steel" of the Wii U launch, in that it's a game that seems to be doing everything right, but will still manage to fall short.

Now, A Rayman/NSMB/ASsassin creed bundle I could have gotten behind. Ah well.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Land May Not be Bundled With Wii U

Linkstrikesback

I can't speak for if they will package Nintendo land with the Wii U or not, but NOT packaging a game that shows off exactly what the Wii U does differently (ala wii sports), and why we should be interested in it seems like a terrible idea to me.

And Nintendo Land is the only game that fits that description that we know of.

Re: The Binding of Isaac Creator Still Thinks the Game Could Come to 3DS

Linkstrikesback

@TrueWiimaster

Nah, there aren't any monsters based on vague body parts. They're either eyes, unidentifiable lumps of meat coloured stuff, just a regular body, or a Dr. Fetus type thing. And when I say SExual content got those games AO ratings, I mean it. Go look, they're almost all those really whacked out insane Japan Novel type games where the goal is essentially rape every girl you come across. BoI certainly wouldn't get an AO for sexual content or violence (It doesn't come anywhere near the first, and the second has to be prolonged /violent sex scenes...).

I should also add taht the whole "Devil" possessing "Abraham" is my interpretation of it. The entire plot barring one opening cut scene and some of the obvious endings is up to the players interpretation. Nowhere does the game say anything like "Isaacs mother is absolutely being possessed". However, I decided that since you can effectively choose to end up in the Sheol, where the first thing you do upon meeting the devil is attack him, (all of this is also implied in some ways to be Isaacs imagination), but it acts as one of the games possible final bosses. Isaac actually has no reason to attack him directly if it wasn't either A) sent there by god to stop the devil, or B) Thinks stopping the devil himself will stop his mother attacking him.

Re: The Binding of Isaac Creator Still Thinks the Game Could Come to 3DS

Linkstrikesback

@TrueWiiMaster
So you somehow think that god being a horrific monster who would order you to kill your own child is BETTER than it being the devil who would do that? And then god intervening and being able to stop the devil is blasphemous?

As for your argument that it would get an AO rating? Not a chance. Germany, which is one of the strictest countries on age ratings, actually gave The Binding of Isaac an age rating. It got a 16+. That is the equivalent of M for North America.

Religious topics DO NOT get games AO ratings according to the ESRB site for America. If you have a precedent for religious content making a game get an AO rating, I'd love to hear it. Otherwise, there is just no reason to think it would happen.

In fact, I took a look at the ERSB website. Only 35 games on there have the AO rating, and almost all of them have it for Strong Nudity. That is, out of the 28186 games on the site that have been rated, only 0.001% of the games have gotten the AO rating. Isaac simply would not get one. Teen or more Likely Mature, sure. But AO? Not a chance.

Re: The Binding of Isaac Creator Still Thinks the Game Could Come to 3DS

Linkstrikesback

@Truewiimaster

The game starts off by showing "God" talking to Isaacs mother (Who I suppose takes Abrahams role in the game). IT never insinuates she is crazy (though, I would call listening to any voice in my head from someone I could not see telling me to sacrifice my child being a little wacko, but thats not something I drew from the game)

Slight spoilers from here on, read at your own peril.

Whether it was actually god is left to the player to decide, particularly one ending where you end up defeating the devil as the final boss implies it could actually have been the devil trying to trick her into killing her own child Regardless, god intervenes before she can do it in the first ending to the game.

Re: The Binding of Isaac Creator Still Thinks the Game Could Come to 3DS

I think it's more likely he doesn't personally want to work for Microsoft. The first contract they had with him for SMB really annoyed him and Tommy (It's probably part of the reason we won't see any other version of the original Super Meat Boy either, at the very least, the contract barred them from ever making a PS3 version : It probably actively blocks them making any further versions on any non-microsoft console that wasn't in the original agreement. Assumedly they had WIi and PC clauses.).

From the sounds of this, he intends to lease out the license of Isaac for someone else to make the ported version.

As for the wiiware version. Yes, originally, I was going to get the wiiware version too. However, I actively applaud them cutting off the Wiiware version when it became clear that they could not make it without either
A) Making the wiiware version significantly worse
B) Not making the other versions as good to release the same thing on other platforms.
C) Getting a retail release.

They completely disregarded the first two ideas, and announced they were trying the third, but got turned down by every publisher they approached (Assumedly including nintendo).

I honestly cannot hold it against them, because I feel that they did everything they reasonably could have to get the game on to the Wii.
@ymmas626

@ymmas626
Anyone saying the game mocks the bible either hasn't played the game, or has barely scratched the surface.

There are an awful lot of "pro-bible" sentiments in it, if we're going to go down that path.
For instance, the Bible instantly kills two of the more difficult bosses. God also actively sends his angels to provide several of the more powerful items to help Issac (in the WOTL expansion).

There are an awful lot of things you could consider offensive in the game, but the way the game treats religion is absolutely not one of them

Re: The Binding of Isaac Creator Still Thinks the Game Could Come to 3DS

Linkstrikesback

@Theblackdragon
I have to wonder why you think the artist for Super meat boy should stop making other games because the other person on the team (Tommy Referenes is the one who did all the programming) doesn't want to program a 4th version of super meat boy (including the canned wii version)?

We /might/ see a 3DS version of Super Meat Boy: The game. But it's not announced, so I wouldn't hold out too much hope.

And of course Microsoft want it. The game is a (multi?) Million seller on steam. Edmund makes some of the most successful indie games, and it's huge publicity for any platform holder who gets a hold of it.

Re: New Professor Layton Title Confirmed for 3DS

Linkstrikesback

Argh, they left the ending of the 3rd game open for another game set after the first trilogy.

I don't think level 5 have the financial guts to stop making Layton games.
Perhaps the series could use a year break before they start another trilogy though.

And I seriously doubt they'd even consider really removing Layton from the games. Perhaps they're trying to set up the next game as a mystery where Layton goes missing and Luke needs to track him down or something.

Re: Nintendo Only Plans to Make One 2D Mario Per Platform

Linkstrikesback

On One hand, I'm glad they don't milk franchises to death.

On the other, I'm sad that mario kart 7and Super Mario 3D land came out before they decided to start supporting DLC! I'd love some more new mario kart cups/ 3d Mario worlds on my handheld and it looks like I'm going to be waiting at least another 6 years again .

Re: New Super Mario Bros. 2 Will Cost £39.99 to Download

Linkstrikesback

@Hyperstar96

Well done on not responding to any of my points. THERE IS NO ACCOUNT SYSTEM for the 3DS. In the UK, the "club nintendo" account you have somehow imagined up doesn't even record games you've downloaded, let alone act as an account system.

And for the third time, since you don't understand what account system means.
It means that you, a consumer, are able to download your digital products to multiple machines (In this case, any 3DS/3DSXL consoles you own), ideally without limit (like steam!), without having to delete them off the first machine(like steam!) for no additional cost (like steam!). This system DOES NOT exist on any of Nintendos hardware currently.

Also: Making matters even worse, even the official nintendo TV ads say Game Around £35. Ugh.

Re: New Super Mario Bros. 2 Will Cost £39.99 to Download

Linkstrikesback

@Hyperstar96.

That doesn't even make any sense at all. Club Nintendo IS NOT AN ACCOUNT SYSTEM. You didn't even reply to ANY of my points in my posts. Yeah, it lets you keep track of stars (coins in america). That's it. Heck, it doesn't even do that for the 3DS in the UK. There hasn't been a single star awarded for digital 3ds games prior to this bonus for getting ripped off for buying one of the 3 3DS retail games at ridiculous prices on the eShop.

And well done for calling me out on "not doing research" when it was clearly beyond you to even read my 10 line post. Good job there.

"Oh wait, the 3DS doesn't have an account system, any more than the Wii did."

You see, here I say the 3DS doesn't have an account system, any more than the wii did. Know what else? The Wii supported club nintendo links between the console and club nintendo. If it isn't obvious to you by this point, THAT IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH. A list of games (at best) that I own is not an account system.

"They are all tied to the handheld they're downloaded on."

REiterated that a list of games isn't an account system...

"Because when people talk about an account system, they don't mean restricted downloads to one machine with an extremely limited transfer system."

Because obviously you consider a list of games tied to one system an "account". Whereas a large majority of the people who ask for an account system actually imply they want something with some functionality just like...

"They mean, like almost everything with regards to digital downloads, we want what Steam offers, the ability to download every title you've bought to every compatible machine you own. No questions asked."

Self explanatory.

Re: New Super Mario Bros. 2 Will Cost £39.99 to Download

Linkstrikesback

@Hyperstar96

Wow, the 3DS has an account system? You mean I can download my games to both my 3DS consoles for no extra charge?!?! Wow!!!

Oh wait, the 3DS doesn't have an account system, any more than the Wii did. They are all tied to the handheld they're downloaded on. Because when people talk about an account system, they don't mean restricted downloads to one machine with an extremely limited transfer system.

They mean, like almost everything with regards to digital downloads, we want what Steam offers, the ability to download every title you've bought to every compatible machine you own. No questions asked.

Re: New Super Mario Bros. 2 Will Cost £39.99 to Download

Linkstrikesback

@Aviator
Except NONE of that happens. You can make and assume what you want, but those things didn't happen to Valve when they decided to sell fairly priced products through download stores (It only went and made them the most successful videogame download store in existence...) , and they wouldn't happen if Nintendo had done it.

Re: New Super Mario Bros. 2 Will Cost £39.99 to Download

Linkstrikesback

@Cipher. They write a contract saying "We will charge £30". Contracts aren't a one way street and should involve some measure of debating from both sides. Retailers are in absolutely no position to refuse high profile releases like New Super Mario Bros 2, no more than Nintendo is to tell them they cannot sell a game.

Heck, even at equal pricing between the digital and retail copies, there are still benefits in terms of value for money to buying a retail copy (Without even mentioning resale value): The opportunities for preorder bonuses, such as the Mario coin game case, reward schemes with the store like GAME and Shopto run, the opportunity to actually speak with knowledgeable people in game retailers (if you're buying in store) all add value to buying a title via retail.

Game stockists undercut the RRP BECAUSE people aren't willing to pay £40, and they make more profit in sheer number of units sold by cutting the price. This exact logic will also apply to the digital store.

Re: New Super Mario Bros. 2 Will Cost £39.99 to Download

Linkstrikesback

@TheblackdragonThen that is a contract they should not have signed. If that IS what happened, I can't see why you're defending it, because that is a huge mistake on Nintendos part.

They are now also behaving as a retailer, and should price the products like one. Obviously steam is the best example of a good retailer-developer in the industry. Valve had no problem with pricing Portal 2 at the same value on steam as the boxed version on release, as they do with any other game.

@CipherGoing by wikipedias description of the RRP"The manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP), list price or recommended retail price (RRP) of a product is the price which the manufacturer recommends that the retailer sell the product. The intention was to help to standardise prices among locations."

Focus on that list bit. "The intention was to help to standardise prices among locations."

If that is the intention in determining an RRP, then the RRP is £30-£35 (at a push for anything above £30).

I wasn't going to buy NSMB2 as a download anyway, but if nintendo has it in their heads that this is even remotely a realistic pricing scheme, I'm extremely disappointing, as it means no 3DS game is even worth considering as a download, which is a shame because I wanted the download versions of Fire Emblem: Awakening and Animal Crossing.

Re: New Super Mario Bros. 2 Will Cost £39.99 to Download

Linkstrikesback

@TheBlackDragon

But it ISN'T about undercutting the retailers. It's about launching a game at the ACTUAL RRP. I have never seen any 3DS game launch at £40 at any retailer. They all go out at £30 AT MOST. £35 if you're REALLY pushing it and only counting the few titles that GAME choose to overprice (A policy which helped drive them in to bankruptcy, as I'm sure we all remember.)

Re: New Super Mario Bros. 2 Will Cost £39.99 to Download

Linkstrikesback

I hope you can see the irony of accusing people of being an armchair expert?

Also it doesn't work that way. You're the one implying that there would be some sort of economic downside for retailers pricing the same way as the digital download option (Which happens ALL the time for PC games. I haven't ever bought a retail title through the PSN or Xbox Live but I know for a fact they price competitively too, at least at launch).

You're making lots of statements yourself without proof. Why don't YOU write a thesis backed up by data and statistics that pricing your digital titles at THE SAME value as retailers is somehow bad? I don't need to write a thesis because the logic me and almost everyone else in this comments section follows Occam's Razor. Go look up what that is, because I don't expect you to know.

Re: New Super Mario Bros. 2 Will Cost £39.99 to Download

Linkstrikesback

@LollipopChoSaw
No, $60 isn't reasonable for an "AAA" handheld game. Also, this isn't an AAA handheld game.
http://www.metacritic.com/game/3ds/new-super-mario-bros-2
AAA games don't get review averages below 80%.

Also, you're arguing that it is good value to charge a 25% INCREASE OVER ALMOST EVERY OTHER RETAILER, both online and in stores.

In fact, let me save you all some money.

GAME have NSMB2 with a free preorder bonus of a 3DS coin shaped game case for £29.99, and reward points if you're a member.
http://www.game.co.uk/en/new-super-mario-bros-2-170963?pageSize=20&searchTerm=New%20Super%20Mario%20Bros.%202
As Well as Freakyforms deluxe for £19.99
http://www.game.co.uk/en/freakyforms-deluxe-180004

Shopto have NSMB2 for £29.86, and freakyforms for £15.85 (but the website seems to be down for me at the moment so I can't get links )

And amazon also have the games for
£29.99 for NSMB2 http://www.amazon.co.uk/New-Super-Mario-Bros-Nintendo/dp/B00844RBVU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1344852625&sr=8-1
£21.23 for Freakyforms Deluxe http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nintendo-Freakyforms-Deluxe-3DS/dp/B008EH5ICQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1344852662&sr=8-1

You'd have to be an idiot to pay "the RRP" of £40 anywhere, and nintendo is absolutely kidding themselves to think that actual base sale price for the best 3DS games is anything but £30.

Re: EA's Summer Showcase May Feature Wii U

Linkstrikesback

I'd care, but I haven't bought an EA game since Mirror's Edge, and I seriously doubt that will change with the franchises that they are likely to show at this showcase, which will almost certainly consist of the yearly franchises EA poops out, that hold no interest for me.

Re: Nintendo: Indie Developers are 'Definitely Important' on 3DS

Linkstrikesback

@Gamermii

There is a reason they said "Cave Story PLUS". You should focus in on the plus there. You know, the version that nicalis said is coming?

@TheDreamingHawk
Yes, you should totally complain to nintendo because nicalis (of all companies) can't keep to anything remotely resembling a good working schedule for titles on the nintendo eShops/Wiiware.

Seriously, don't expect Cavestory + this year, or this decade if you're in Europe

It's a shame that they claim indie devs are important but still said no in the end to the Binding of Isaac. The original Super Meat Boy definitely won't happen, Edmund and Tommy made it absolutely clear they don't want to do any mroe work with the original game.

We might get lucky and see an eShop version of the new one they're developing for iOS
