Faxanadu NES remake with updated graphics, Suikoden franchise porter to Switch with a brand new Suikoden VI to release, FZero sequel, and just as unlikely, Mario Kart 9
I may be on my own here but I missed the days when all the new reveals came from a glossy zine I picked up from the newsagents. There was something special about learning of Ocarina of Time for the first time from a magazine with a 6-page article including screenshots than there is waiting months for any new at all and then it just gets dropped on our lap.
Surely the soundbyte of his jump is directly from Sonic? I get that they clearly drew inspiration from the old 16bit sonic games but that jump is plagiarized isn't it?
What do I THINK it will be called? No idea! But I would love the Super Nintendo Switch... it will bring me back to the day when I upgraded from my NES to my Super NES. I'll just have to do it again!
Wow... after 100 comments I doubt mine will get recognised... except hah! I love the Windows 95 OS too and everyone looks at me funny. Good times!
My top 5 is probably, in as close to an order I can get:
5: Faxanadu (almost certainly the nostalgia)
4: LoZ Ocarina of Time (never played it until I got it on Virtual Console which is probably why it's just a 4)
3: Suikoden
2: Horizon Zero Dawn
1: Final Fantasy 7 (a bit of nostalgia, it really is one of those games you had to play when it first came out, but I still feel the overall experience makes it my most favourite of all time).
That said, I should also mention games that came close like Morrowind, MK Double Dash, Smash Bros Melee, Pikmin 2 and LoZ Adventures of Link.
Definitely time for MK9, but enjoying MK8 while it's here. There's so many games I'd like to see, including a new FZero, a new Pikmin, a new Mario Party for the family nights (getting bored of the same 4 boards and what seems to be the same minigames). Ultimately though I think Tom said it best in his previous article. Just enjoy what we have now.
I think I didn't even bother with these genre titles. I read it and my brain skims over it completely, I look for those more old-fashioned 'what-you-do' monikers, like platform, rpg, etc, as was mentioned. So often I read the description of the game and it tells me almost nothing at all so I find the gratuitous screenshots so I can go "oh it's one of those games". I'm glad someone finally said it and in a way @KateGray it was obviously going to be you. Like the other problems with your expertise just waiting for someone to, respectfully and eloquently, point it out.
Saying that, music genres is the one that gets me all the time, death metal, black metal, heavy metal, it's all an alloy of some kind. My friends became quite successful with a band that was labeled 'prog rock' but then received backlash because they didnt sound anything like Tool or other bands of that genre. I dunno. It's all just a way we try to categorize and document our social habits isn't it?
I'd love to see the new game, but I think I'm more excited over the fact that more and more rumours are surfacing that are likely to be revealed at E3. The hype train is pulling into the station.
Like most people here, I cant see Apple releasing any new technology without pricing it higher than it's competitors. They've always been all show on the outside but little wonderment on the inside. It's going to be the Neo Geo all over again. Could they even produce the level of quality that can stand in the shadow of Nintendo? And why Ubisoft? If they want to go to any company they should try EA. They suit each other.
Personally I'm not into speed running due to the fact it is mostly exploiting glitches. I feel that unless you play the game as the developers intended, a speed run is nothing more than knowing how to hack the code. Granted there's still a finesse to it, but it kinda loses it's lustre. So this, I can respect.
@Dogorilla oooh you know what I'm thinking of, I'm thinking of the first 'cup' where you didnt get a theme but a chance to win Gold points to spend on the eshop, every win was one entry and, and then the next cup was every 100points was one entry... then they introduced themes...
@Stocksy @Dogorilla No, the Gameboy was definitely a win only because I almost didnt make it. I'm in Ireland. Perhaps some were available for purchase since some people are saying only some of them were available. I had all of them except Luigi's Mansion and one of the Pokemon ones and they weren't up for sale.
@Stocksy @Dogorilla @rio_j @TryToBeHopeful @InvisiBulbasaur For those of us in Europe we didnt have any option to purchase them at all. It seemed to have only been available for the US market.
I can't believe the Gameboy one is the same price. That was the only theme that required a win for us in europe. The others relied on points.
What I want is tabs for the KK songs. I know there was an official book but it was Japan-only and also contained only about 10 songs I think. So if anyone knows where I can get them, that would be great.
So the Purple Gamecube was called Indigo, the new indigo Switch Lite is called Blue... in a few generations time do you think they'll release a new system that is blue but call it Purple? Or even... Green? I guess if the computer is unable to produce the variety of colours that our eyes can see then the only way to really know is to see one in person
I guess I need to buy one... for science of course
Ok so I figured out how to find the queue and I've been there half an hour now, but it still says I have more than an hour remaining. Anyone else had any better fortune?
@dartmonkey I skee I skee, if that was included at the intro I would have understood... which is a shame because it's an epic game! We need more people rating it.
In Europe, I must admit I would still buy it at 400euros. I got my switch second hand and it's starting to show it's age. As long as this is an upgrade, I can transfer my data and all the usual bells and whistles and i can still play the games I have now, i would pay that price. But if Nintendo asks, tell them 350.
@Kalmaro I know right? Maybe because at the time it was so novel, whereas now it's just more of the same but "new and improved".
I'm glad to see almost a third of us are playing every day. With so many saying they've stopped or only come back once in a while it makes me feel like I'm the only one. Not that it bothers me much but I guess we're just the quiet ones.
Maybe it's just because I'm not time-travelling or taking shortcuts by going on those nookazon or whatever, taking things slow by only going on it an hour a day, more or less, I still find a lot left to do and still playing it. I guess the covid caused a lot of people to tire it out quicker...
I'm happy for these updates and hope that a 2.0 is around the corner.
I was expecting more news about the easter event... like maybe this time instead of searching for those dang annoying eggs, we could get our slingshots, fishing rods, shovels, nets and YES even axes and go hunt down zipper himself and bludgeon him as a pinata until the blood just pours out of him DID I SAY BLOOD I meant eggs...
I've actually only just started playing this (this will be my second full tour) and it's a lot better than I thought it would be. Maybe I'm just pining for a Mario Kart 9, but this is satisfying that itch. Then again, I'm worried about how fluid this is and that MK9 won't be here anytime soon. That said, they did release ACNH after Pocket Camp so anything is possible...
...Where was I...? Oh yeah, great game, how do I add more friends, can't wait for MK9.
Never played Lost Vikings but mastered Lost Vikings 2 I used to know almost every line off by heart. Shame they don't include that here otherwise I would have had to buy it. For the others though, I'm not really sold. They missed a great opportunity here.
I admit the Night Vision... umm... app... looks pretty kool but I don't think the price point is right... it seems like the sort of thing that should be offered for free, which is a shame because I'm sure the developers worked really hard on it and deserve a payment. I just wish they sold it directly to Nintendo to implement for free...
@LinktotheFuture @Fandabidozi me too. Lego really is targeted to 2 types of people, kids and AFOLs... otherwise why would they release the Expert sets, limited editions and actually keep one box of each and every set ever released in their HQ in the Netherlands? If the store assistant knew a family were coming back to buy their last Lego At-At, they had no right to say that.
@Dr_Lugae I don't understand how he stole? He purchased them for himself, he paid money for it through legitimate means only what he needed. He's not reselling them. If an adult buys a happy meal at any time, he's not stealing from kids is he? Unless I've missed something I don't see what that guy did wrong?
@KillerBOB yeah ok that escalated quickly... but the point was, how much further would they go? What sort of people will scalp hundreds of pokemon cards for profit and leave other kids disappointed?
This is a new low. Like seriously low. I mean... I have had phone calls from people in Nigeria trying to con me out of money, and I have more 'fellow-feeling' for them than I do to the people who are doing this. I'm not against scalpers in general, but what are they going to do next? Buy all the wheelchairs they can and then scalp those to the kids that can't walk? They might as well because this is only one step away from that.
