If you wanted to get a friend or loved one hooked on the Nintendo Switch, what game would you choose for them? For some, it might be The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild or Animal Crossing: New Horizons, but for Nintendo of America's current president Doug Bowser, the top pick is Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
In his latest post on the social media platform Twitter, Doug showed off a photo of his parents playing the 'Deluxe' version of Mario Kart 8 in portable mode, and it seems either his Mum or Dad is quite good - placing second as Koopa Troopa on what appears to be Moo Moo Meadows. Doug himself, as you can see, is rocking a cool SNES shirt.
As of 31st March 2021, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe had sold 35.29 million copies worldwide and remains the best-selling Switch game to date. You can see why - with photos like the ones above proving anyone (of any age) can enjoy this game.
Apart from visiting his parents this month, a few weeks ago Doug took the opportunity to head into Nintendo's New York store to say hello to his statue, and personally thank the staff there for everything they've done over the past year. What a great boss Bowser is!
Are you still enjoying Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on the Nintendo Switch? Or is it about time for Mario Kart 9? Leave your thoughts down below.

It’s definitely time for Mario Kart 9, hopefully it’s announced at E3.
Business wise it’s the wrong time for a new Mario Kart, but, some paid DLC could be a perfect time!
Again, it’s Nintendo they always have a different view on things.
@Scrubicius Yeah, on one side they seem to love easy earned money (who wouldn't) by releasing simple ports but on the other side they seem like they don't love easy earned money by not releasing DLCs for the most sold Switch game
At the very least, he's a far better boss then Mario.
@mariomaster96 I do understand why they didn't release DLC for MK8DX; It's a port of a Wii U game that already got 2 rounds of DLC.
@ObeseChihuahua2 Captain Toad got Switch exclusive DLC
Does that mean Doug Bowser is Bowser. Jr?
@Slowdive Only flaw for me was the fact that all the tracks and cups were unlocked from the beginning!! I found that so deflating when I first played it. Part of the fun of the single player is unlocking all the cups, including the hidden ones. Still, amazing game overall and the online just gives it unlimited replay value.
What are the odds of him having that surname? Did he join Nintendo because of his name?
He better be teaching them how to play mario kart 9 in the next three months. (LOL JK, kinda)
If there isn’t a photo of Doug giving a high five to that Bowser statue, then there is truly no justice remaining in this universe
But does Doug Bowser tell his parents about that one time that King Bowser said the N-word?
Maybe I'm in the minority, but I don't want another Mario Kart yet. LOVE 8 Deluxe, but there are other games that need some love. Revive one of the other dormant franchises like F-Zero, Pilotwings, Wave Race or Kid Icraus. Redo Star Fox Zero and improve it.
Glad to see Doug Bowser show some personality. That was one of the things that made Reggie likable, he always seemed to be having fun, and if you are the VP of Marketing for one of the largest video game companies of all time, you should look like you are having fun.
This is wholesome
Mm.. Wholesome.
I know that we are all waiting for the inevitable Mario Kart 9, but why don't we just enjoy what we have now? Instead of clamoring for another game, let's be happy with what we've got no? This way we're all happy and before you know it, the sequel will be here.
I wonder how his parents did. It's easy to take for granted how much coordination is required to push buttons good, I don't think I could teach my own dad how to play Mario Kart.
Definitely time for MK9, but enjoying MK8 while it's here. There's so many games I'd like to see, including a new FZero, a new Pikmin, a new Mario Party for the family nights (getting bored of the same 4 boards and what seems to be the same minigames). Ultimately though I think Tom said it best in his previous article. Just enjoy what we have now.
Why has he waited 4 years to play Mario Kart with his parents?
I tried teaching my parents to play Mario Kart. Didn't work.
Wouldn't it be great if he said, hey mom and dad now this is what a prototype of Mario Kart 9 looks like.
I am really starting to like this guy.
Can't wait to see him at E3 again. He's a very likeable guy.
"Are ya winnin, pa?"
"No son, some turtle-dragon monster with our last name threw a banana peel at me."
@Scrubicius I agree, I don't think we need Mario Kart 9 until the true Switch successor. More tracks, some mini-games, new characters or even different styles of racing would be welcome. A brand new game? I don't see what they can bring to the table with current tech in all honesty and it would split the very strong MK8 online fan base.
I'd happily take a new or remastered F-Zero though!
"Yes son, I know this is Mario Kart 8. It's been out for seven years, Doug, SEVEN YEARS. Your mom and I have been reading YouTube comments and they say you're out of touch. Is that true, son? We're not mad, Douggie, we're just disappointed."
Man, isn't it great that some of the games that define the Switch are just ports of Wii U games with added content?
@Scrubicius I'm intrigued why you think "Business wise it’s the wrong time for a new Mario Kart". While MK8 continues to sell well, it has still slowed considerably, whereas the 35 million odd MK8 owners on switch would all likely be interested in MK9.
What am I missing?
@ModdedInkling It might be sad for like the 14-15 million people who actually owned one and played most of those games but to everyone else who didn't these are completely new experiences.
@BizarreJelly28980
Of course. But it goes to prove a point that pricing ports of older games at full price doesn't negatively effect the experience of the game.
@ModdedInkling True.
More like Doug Boomer.
Finally we meet Bowser Sr & his Mrs. Bowsette.
On a random semi-related tangent, I think Nintie should make Super Mario RPG 2 and explore Mario's & Princess Toadstool's family trees whilst introducing new characters.
... Wun can only hope.

Well you just mentioned 35 Million Mario Kart owners. Now sale each 35 Million Mario Kart owners a DLC = $$$$$! Business wise, perfect! Then release a new Mario Kart.
I don't think with so many people having Mario Kart it will sale this well in the middle of the live spam. I would see this a next Gen. release.
But as I mentioned Nintendo sometimes has their own way.
