I'm excited to see the diappointment people have when they realize that people still enjoy this game. So many commenters on this website think that they're the only ones who know that it's aged terribly, and they can't wrap their head around someone else still enjoying it for nostalgia reasons. They're going to be SERIOUSLY disappointed when people still enjoy this.
I admittedly am still loving my Switch as it is. I have a big backlog like most people that I'm still playing through. I love shiny new things, but I could get another two years of enjoyment out of this thing. It could be better in a lot of ways, but I also knew that going in.
After reading the review i'm surprised it still got a 6 out of 10. If you're having to reset the game to fix glitches and you're frustrated and confused at what you're supposed to be doing, that's not a fun game in my eyes. The review makes it sound like a 4/10.
Whatever they decide to do, it really needs to be a Switch successor in the same vein as the current switch with hybrid capability. It would be remarkably stupid to go back to strictly home console. A lot of people are wanting a more powerful home console, go buy a PS5 or an Xbox Series X/S. Switch was successful because of it's versatility. If Nintendo leaves that behind it'll be insane.
The Switch is the absolute best. I understand we look back on the others with nostalgia, for me that's the N64 and the NES as my next two in line. But the Switch saved Nintendo. They were in a really bad spot when the Switch launched and the Switch is what brought me back. I'd left for PlayStation with the PS3 after not playing games at all since the N64. I had a Wii but never really played much outside of Wii Sports and Wii Fit. But the Switch has gotten me back into Smash Bros, Mario Bros, Zelda, Animal Crossing, Luigi's Mansion, etc. It has a ton of great games and is by far the best portable Nintendo has ever produced.
I love the idea of a Steamdeck but I've learned my lesson. I'm 35 years old and every time I leave Nintendo when I think something better has come along, I enjoy it immensely but always find my way back to Nintendo.
@prismt I'm sure for Nintendo, 175% is a pretty great increase from any month to the next considering the volume at which they sell hardware. Even in slow months Nintendo moves a ton of product.
It's cool they're giving out free stuff and I like developers who are willing to do fun events like this. But I also understand the sentiment that bad games are bad games whether they're free or not. If someone leaves a flaming bag of dog waste on my porch, that was free as well but I don't have to smile about it.
@kozaru I'm late getting back to this conversation, but out of curiosity, how much longer would be long enough in your eyes for the liveliness of the community to continue?
It's totally whining and negative to be complaining about bug fix updates 2 1/2 years after a game's release. We didn't buy a subscription, we bought a video game. I could see these complaints over on a story about Violet and Scarlet and the bugs there, but with New Horizons? It's pretty immersive and polished for what we tend to see in the industry these days, especially for Switch games. I feel like we got pretty darn good bang for our buck on this one.
God of War and The Last of Us were destined to be on this list the second they were announced. It wouldn't have mattered how the finished product actually turned out to be, nothing was going to knock them from this list. That annoys me. Good games, sure but God Of War was crowned after 17 seconds of being on the market before anyone had even downloaded it.
@TDCinFL That's not entirely true. They ported Spiderman and Miles Morales to PC. They also saw The Show move cross platform recently. Every company has exclusives, that's not the point being made in the quote you used. There's a huge difference between the point you're making and the point you think you're making. Taking what hasn't been an exclusive and making it an exclusive isn't the same as having exclusives from the start.
@johnvboy Agreed. They whine if there's no updates, and then when there is an update, they whine. Nintendo doesn't owe anyone a whole slew of brand new features every time they push out an update. I typically am more pro consumer and don't tend to defend billion dollar companies but on the other hand, if we're impossible to please even when a great game like New Horizons is released, why would they continue to try?
I love reading comments on stories like these. The game sold like crazy and the same people saying they put 2300 hours into it are also complaining about it and saying it wasn't good enough. Can't we ever just show appreciation for a well thought out game that entertained us for that many hours? If you put 500-2300 hours into the game, I'm pretty sure something kept you coming back and you more than got your money's worth. New Horizons was a great game and one that carried many of us through some difficult times. Why whine and complain about a small bug fix update? Nintendo doesn't owe you a brand new game with each incremental update.
I'll definitely be buying this on one and maybe two platforms. I am mature enough to understand that I don't agree with everyone on everything and I love that people have the freedom to have their opinions.
If you don't feel you're able to accept the offer from the company, you don't take the job. That doesn't mean that you need to try and ruin the income of the team members who chose to work on the project. Just move on and find a better gig. It's not "insulting" to be offered less than you feel you're worth, that's simply how negotiation works.
I really appreciate gaming websites who give EA a fair review. I get so tired of them getting 7's and 8's out of 10 on other websites or 3.5 out of 5. They're garbage. FIFA on Switch, Madden, they destroy otherwise great franchises and deserve terrible reviews.
As I sit here dealing with repossessions, I think to myself: "How bad could it possibly be at Nintendo to need to unionize?" But I guess even a 'dream job' from the outside could be miserable from the inside. The idea of testing Nintendo games seems like a dream.
@Atariboy It's Xbox getting the remaster? I had no idea the remaster was officially announced, let alone that we'd gotten news of it's exclusive availability. Thanks for the heads up!
Watching Nintendo Direct, I got burned out pretty quick. Every other game looked the same. I cannot believe there's still such a strong market for Japanese animation style RPG's. I understand that's a massive market but I cannot grasp why.
@lumothesinner My circle must be unique because I know quite a number of people who have N64's and the original game and were thrilled that it was coming to NSO. I'm sure you're right that there will be quite a few who are caught off guard but I think for people my age who played it as kids, it'll bring back enough nostalgia that it'll still be a blast to revisit.
@lumothesinner I never understand the people who think that no one who likes Goldeneye has played it recently so they don't realize it hasn't held up. I own Goldeneye on the N64 and I play it occasionally for nostalgia. I'm well aware of it's current state and I still love it. I'm excited for it to be on NSO because of the memories it holds for me. Honestly, now I find myself enjoying it more for the music and sounds that I remember so well more than the graphics or gameplay. People need to stop assuming that everyone who still loves Goldeneye is just not informed or whatever. It was and is a great game if for no other reason than the memories.

Awesome! If only I could get a N64 NSO controller.

@Serpenterror That was a great game. As was ESPN 2K5. But I'm talking on current gen or near future gen. It's a shame.

As an aside, whoever is buying Madden 23, curse you. We'll never see a decent NFL game.

@RushDawg The lesson is that I enjoy a lot of different products and tech on the market. ¯(ツ)/¯
But as I stated, even with that enjoyment, it's short lived and I return to Nintendo.
