Re: Kimishima on the Role of the 3DS After the Switch Launch

@LordGeovanni
Sorry to ask, but about what kind of "untapped potential" are you talking in regards of the 3DS?
It's extremely old hardware which struggles to run the new Pokemon games?
It's 3D effect, which is barely used in games?
Or it's size, which makes it more portable than the NS, although the XL versions of the 3DS are nearly as big as the Tablet if they are folded together....
Or do you mean dual screen play, which is used less and less with every release on the System?

Sorry to say this, but the 3DS is old tech in every aspekt. Yes, it's an awesome handheld and has awesome games, but there is one thing the 3DS dosn't have anymore and that's a future besides the NS (if the NS sells well, if not, they will spin the switch concept and hardware so long until the successor to the 3DS is born).

I think, that this year will be a really good last year for the 3DS. After that there won't be any more games from Nintendo (except for some really small titles perhaps). 3rd Partys will push some switch ports onto the 3DS in 2018, but it will be dead after that.

Re: Ubisoft CEO Says Nintendo NX Will Help Grow The Industry And Pull In Casual Players

Josaku

@jimi
again ... these consoles were on the market FOR 10 YEARS at this pont .... developers KNEW how to develop or port games to it, that's why it was easier and saver to port games to those systems instead of the WiiU ......

The PS3 got 3rd Party support while it sold bad, because Sony was supporting developers to ensure they got the ports .....

The WiiU uses (like any other console on PPC) a slightly tweaked version of PPC to fit the hardware better ....
Just because it's PPC at the base dose not mean it's easy to develop for it ... To top everything off and make your "it's easy to port to WiiU" (I said the opposite btw) the sinking ship it actually is ...
You do know, that the rest of the hardware should be considered while programming for a console do you? What's the biggest difference between PS360 and WiiU? Yes, the tablet controller which Nintendo wanted 3rd partys to actually use .... see the whole Ubisoft "Watchdogs" debacle ....
So yes, it was quite difficult to develop a game for the WiiU despite the seemingly similar architecture which was tweaked quite a bit to fit the WiiU's hardware .....

At the point the WiiU/PS4/XBO all were on the market you had the old veterans everybody knew the in's and out's off, the scaled down PCs (PS4/XBO) and the "same but extremely different" different kid which showed in it's time alone on the market, that it could not catch up to the Wii (gamedroughts, marketing fails)

So again, why the heck should a 3rd party developer without any knolage take the huge risk, to develop games for a platform which seemd to have a very slow start and is hard to develop for? Why would you invest in a console which could not deliver the profits the others could deliver?
It's easy (and we saw this) .... they didn't take the risk ....

And about the Wii .... being popular dose not guarantees "good" 3rd party support ..... it only guarantees the support, most of it will be bad, but there will be good stuff in this heep of games. As seen on the PS2. In terms of the number of games ... these two are not that different tbqh ....
seen here:
http://www.vgchartz.com/platform/4/playstation-2/
http://www.vgchartz.com/platform/2/wii/

The Wii showed, that IF you have a gimmik that captures a wide range of peoples interests and is more or less easy to develop for ... then you don't need AAA-3rd partys. nothing more ...
The WiiU on the other hand showed, that your console WILL FAIL if it is not supported by 3rd partys and your gimmik dose not fit the above discription ....

The Wii got less support from 3rd partys in general, because the consumers on those consoles bought way more content that the ones on the Wii, you can see this if you look at the total sold software on those 3 consoles. The Wii was the best selling one, so no-one could really afford to ignore it, but the other two brought way higher profit margines to the table which lead to good support ..... this and MS and Sony bought ports and exclusives, because they could ....
You can see this here:
http://www.vgchartz.com/platforms/

As said before, the PS360 sold each 80mil consoles in 10 years and the consumers seemd to be quite loyal to the platform and so bought more games .....
You can see this in the last postet links .... 20mil units less sold, but nearly as much software ....

Re: Ubisoft CEO Says Nintendo NX Will Help Grow The Industry And Pull In Casual Players

Josaku

@jimi
First of all ... the GC ...
You seem to ignor how popular the consoles were .... the PSP sold 80mil units, while the GC onle got 21mil.
The driving force behind a port to a specific console is the profit that can be made on said platform .... even if it costs twice as much to port it to the PSP, the installbase is 4 times that of the GC and so the possible profit is much bigger on PSP than on GC.
That is why the GC did not get much 3rd party support.

You want to know, why there were so many multi generation games in the early life of the PS4/XBO? You do know, that the PS3/XB360 were nearly 10 years on the market and it was realy easy to port games to them? You do know, that even to this day there are many XB360/PS3 consoles still in use? That's why their online services work to this day.
Yes, it was not only faster and easier to develop games for PS3/XB360 but it was safer too compared to the WiiU and even the PS4/XBO.
This is why nearly every game had a XB360/PS3 but no WiiU port.

You didn't even try to aproach the points I made about the Wii didn't you?
The only thing I said, was, that 3rd Partys had no choice here, because it was the best selling console in that generation.
I know, that most of the 3rd party offerings were crap, that comes with the territory of being "the best selling console of a particular generation" ..... the PS2 too had a crapton of shovelwarwe ....
The Wii got less 3rd party support, because
1. it sold less units
2. it's competition was actual competition which were actual good selling consoles (both 80mil units)

Capcom are idiots ... they showed that multiple times ..... not as bad as Konami, but still ....

@Project_Dolphin
Gamers .... is quite the misleading terminology ....
let's say consumer ok? not every consumer is a gamer in the sense, that he/she is really invested in the games ....
I say this, because this industry seems to be driven by hype. The generation of sellingpotential without actually showing what you are offering ..... The Wii and PS4 used this perfectly to only name the latest in console-history ....

I can say, that 3rd partys drive the consol industry, because they are the people generating the hype and they are the people who only do things, that don't need much money to be developed and can generate as much hype (=money) as possible. As long as a franchise can generate hype it is reused and so gets a sequal every year (FIFA, BF, COD .... what ever). If a frachise can't generate any or not enough hype it is terminated.
This leads into a releas-shedule which is not lead by the consumer who buy the stuff they do, but by a simple equation which takes generatable hype and used money/time into account ....
The gaming industry is so big, that there is a market for everyone and everything that you throw out there will be bought .... just look at the history of "Evolve" and how it ended for the consumer and the producer to see this in action ..... FIFA is another great exsample ....

Re: Ubisoft CEO Says Nintendo NX Will Help Grow The Industry And Pull In Casual Players

Josaku

@jimi You are missing the point here .....

The GC failed because it used minidiscs and the publishingfees were to high and because the marketing was crap ....
The WiiU failed because the marketing was crap, the console was extremely weak compared to PS4/XBO, because the tabletcontroller was more or less a useless gimmik (only a hand full of games actually profited from it) and it was hard to programm for because it used a different Architexture than the other two and even the last generation.

The Wii on the other hand succeded, because it was perfectly marketed, with the exact right userbase (casual gamers and non gamers), it was dirt cheap and it had a revolutionary new controller which was hyped to the moon and back ..... 3rd Partys had no other choice but to make their games for the Wii too, they would have made a profit even if just 10% of the userbase bought their games.....

What @SLIGEACH_EIRE meant (I guess) was, if the NX is not way more powerful than the PS4 it will get burried by the competition, because they already startet the TFLOPS pissing match with the Neo and the Scorpio. This (and possibly the crap marketing) can make the NX into a "DOA" (Dead on arival) console, without any big chance on the market.
The industry is driven by the big 3rd partys, not the consumer. If they don't like your console, they can afford to just skip it with their games. If your console has no 3rd party games it won't sell much. If it dosn't sell other developers will skip your console ...... it's that easy ....

Re: Rumour: More Claims Made For New Legend of Zelda on Wii U and NX, Gender Choice For Playable Character

Josaku

If they are really doing this, I want a male Samus in my next Metroid game

I really don't see why this should be considered a huge step in "the right" direction .... The only thing they are goind to achive with this is making their characters less iconic .... which is the biggest sellingpoint Nintendo has at the moment ...

But as long as I don't know if the game is any good, I will just sit here and wait.

Re: Super Mario Maker and Splatoon Miss Out at BAFTA Game Awards

Josaku

I can see, why Rocket League won "Multiplayer" because this game ist just pure bonkers online and I really like it ...
But how the F*** did a "game" like Her Story win "Game Innovation"? I really don't see any reason why this game should win this award instead of Splatoon or Life is Strange ....

Re: Random: Turok Remaster on PC Opts for a Prehistoric Look

Josaku

I love Turok .... best FPS games ever ... the first 3 and rage wars ....
I love that they decided to "remake" these and I think it looks decent, but they should clean up the models and textures a bit more, but the animations are way better and I can immagine, that they increased the resolution to be 1080p and I hope the use 60FPS ....
I hope, they remake Rage Wars too though .... loved that game

Re: Video: See the Differences Between Star Fox Zero at E3 and Now

Josaku

@Freeon-Leon That's your personal taste and stuff ...
I didn't like the Story, the sailing (waiting), the overstylised artstyle, the way to easy dungeons, most of the minigames and most of the characters ...
As I said, there is only the fighting and Music left ... the fighting was cool I guess, but that's it ...
I bought this game 2 times on full price ...
First time with my GC because I was pretty hype about this game and it kicked me in the balls multiple times ....
Second time with my WiiU because everybody and their dog was cumguzzeling about it and how it was "THE GAME" to play that winter .... and it kicked me in my balls slightly less than the original .... but still pretty hard if you ask me ...

Re: Video: See the Differences Between Star Fox Zero at E3 and Now

Josaku

@vitalemrecords And WW was a pretty poop game ... It look crap on the GC and still dose on the WiiU ... Yes cell shaded graphics age increadibly well, but that's only because you sacrafice detail while using it and highly stilising your visuals ... which isn't necesarily a bad thing ...
Overall, I really only liked the music in WW and I really don't want to see Nintendo repeat that ...

But I have to say, that I too don't understand the bitching about this game ... yes it looked kinda wired at E3, but I played it a thisyears Connichi and it was awesome and now the new trailer too looks way better, so I have no doubt that Nintendo and Platinum will find a way to let their magiv shine trough with this game ^^

Re: Hyrule Warriors Legends Gets a Release Date and 'Female Link', Linkle

Josaku

Linkle is a kinda wierd one for me ....
If she is handled like any other character inside the Zelda Universe that is not Link, which means, that she will get her own backstory, can talk and is only in spin off games, I'm complketly okay with this, because this is what makes sense to me about this .... ecxept for the name .... it's dumb and kinda misleading ...
But if she is used instead of Link in future games I will have lost all respect I had for Nintendo ... this would be just bad and a slap in the face for all Zelda-fans ..,.

Re: The Next Nintendo Direct is on 12th November

Josaku

Firstly ... It's really good, that the Directs will continue and I'm really hyped about what they will show.
secondly .... why the heck do they still seperate their content? they really need to streamline this, no more different news for Japan/Europe/America, no more different release shedules and this stuff ....
thridly ... I really hope, that Kimishima will semi-host this direct for all regions

Re: Nintendo Attempts to Show the Fun Side of Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival as amiibo Bundles Are Confirmed

Josaku

There seems to be nothing interesting about this game and I watched everything they showed us up until now.
This game's only excuse for existing is selling more amiibo to use in a "game" that seems to have nothing interesting or even fun in it ....

I hope that I'm wrong because I hope that Nintendo won't stoop so low, but everything they said/showed about this game points exactly in this direction ....

Re: Project H.A.M.M.E.R. Exposé Reveals Torrid State Of Affairs At Nintendo Software Technology

Josaku

They really have to get their sh*t together .....
Nintendo has to have more western studios under their belt, Japanese nationalism or not, they need to be more diverse and I'm not only saying this because of this article .... They make good games, yes. But they have not enough studios making games for 3 platforms (HH, HC and Mobile) and they need to make games literally for everyone. Whit this I don't mean rated E games, but games that appeal to kids, other games that appeal to older gamers and other games that appeal to the "mature" or "sports" crowd ..... They can't ignore these crowds, because they are gigantic at the moment ...

Re: Reggie Fils-Aime Asks for Fan Trust With Metroid Prime: Federation Force

Josaku

@khaosklub
first off, Prime 3 was not the last metroid game released ... this honor goes to other M which wasn't as bad as everybody makes it seem to be.
secondly, I can understand why Nintendo is so cautiouse when it comes to Metroid .... there was just one metroid game that sold over 2 million copys ... the first prime game .... the other two didn't even manage to move that much on the Wii, a console with more than 100million units sold ...
Just for the record, Galaxy sold over 11 million copys (I know it's a bigger IP, but the complaining about spin offs is nearly non existent)

So for Nintendo to try something new with the Metroid franchise to expand on the Lore and to expand the franchises reach on the market seems to me like a brilliant move, especially because federation force is a spin off title, that (let's be honest) will most likely be a really good game.

Re: Nintendo Reportedly Pitched NX To Third Parties During E3 2015

Josaku

I really hope that this manifests into actuall games after launche from 3rd partys AND some kind of interaction between Nintendo's hardware-department and 3rd partys.

To be honest, I would like to see Nintendo make a somewhat standard console with specs slightly higher than the PS4 with a totally new concept of an OS. One that binds every piece of hardware running it to one marketplace, one software library and one community. Scaling visuals up and down depending on the power of the hardware and making a transition from one gen to another a thing of the past by standardising the architecture and the OS, both of which will only be updated, but not replaced.
This would mean, that new hardware inside these standardised lines could run every game of the older hardware.

But I really don't know how easy/hard this would be to be honest.

Re: Rumour: Could Female Link Be In Hyrule Warriors On 3DS?

Josaku

I hope not ....
Why is it, that ever male character needs to be gender swapped nowadays?
I prefer male Link and it worked for so many years with him being male, so why change that?
I know that I will get the question "His gender dosn't matter either way because he is a dofferent reincarnation of the Hero every time, so why not make him female in the next game?"
My awnser to that would be:
"If it really dosn't matter why not leave Link like he is at the moment? Secondly, he may be a different reincarnation of the old hero and technically a different person in nearly every new Zelda game, but all in all he is the same character every time isn't he? It's always Link either way ....
If you really wanted a female character in a mainline Zelda game, why not use Zelda herselfe?"

Re: Splatoon Global Testfire Suffers Major Problems in Final Pre-Launch Session

Josaku

I hope that they see this as a sing to upgrade their servers, because I think, that the Servers would be even worse off after launche ....
I think, that even more people than the mass that tried to play last night want to play it after launch, so their servers would be massivly overused and couldn't keep up as they are now.

I know that Nintendo is kinda slow when it comes to stuff like this, but they have 5 days left to ramp up their Servers-recourses and power and they really need to do this.
