Re: Guide: Pokémon GO Super Incubator - What It Does And How To Get It

JayronAuron

@ollietaro No, they aren't. It seems the article failed to mention this.

...As a Pokemon Go player, these articles stopped being useful after the Eevee one, and I already knew that. It's as if someone is looking for any excuse for an article. I only ever went to the Silphroad subreddit for this stuff, sorry. They handle this game scientifically...strange for a game, but it works. I appreciate the news I get from NL, but this is clogging up that news.

Re: Review: Crawl (Switch eShop)

JayronAuron

A friend got me to play this game on Steam a short while back, and it was a lot of fun to play. Definitely worth it, so I will likely be picking this one up on the Switch.

Re: Review: UNO (Switch eShop)

JayronAuron

I would consider this game if not for the fact that it requires multiple switches for multiplayer. Local play would literally be my only reason to buy this, so I see no reason to need 2+ switches for it.

Re: Guide: Splatoon 2 - Adding, Removing and Picking Abilities

JayronAuron

Sorry to say to the writer, but as others have mentioned regarding Sub/Special Power Up (better stated as Sub/Special Proficiency up) the statement about what these items do in the article is quite false. None of the buffs to a special provide any direct damage increase whatsoever, and some of the duration increases (such as Sting Ray's and Ink Jet's) do not increase the duration enough to justify having the ability, unless you add several Special proficiency ups beyond just 1-2. The sub ones are primarily increased range, with a few other additions (@SpacemanSpiff nailed that one well)

@OrigamiSquirtle Works with standard movement, and while I have heard claims that it works when you run and then start firing with an automatic weapon, there is definitive evidence online that it does not improve run speed with rollers/brushes sadly.

@bluedogrulz I would agree with your sentiments of super jump in most cases, although I think that if people are careful to look at the map before they leap (identify turf coverage around target, and any ink color being added), it becomes pretty clear what teammates are safe to jump to. This has helped me jump safely a lot, especially if you play a brush and are able to dash out of the way quickly on landing just in case. That said, my favorite use of an un-stealthed super jump is to jump to a teammate who is clearly under attack or seconds from dying while I have Splashdown on deck. I rack up revenge kills a lot this way, and unlike normal Splashdown I do not see any indicator to warn opponents of the impending special (I could be wrong). I don't see many people utilize this feature, but in certain circumstances it can be a game changer if opponents are too distracted.

Re: Splatoon 2 is Adding "Dualie Squelchers" in Weekend Update

JayronAuron

Well I'm disappointed. Dual Squelcher was my favorite weapon in the first game, but after giving this a brief test, I'd consider this both a nerf and buff. First of all, you no longer have both shots concentrated on the same point like last game unless you roll (hurting your ink supply, which is already iffy with dual/dualie squelchers). This may be a non-issue with regular dualies because of close-range, but for the squelcher it means the long-distance is much less effective.

Also, I miss echolocator, but point sensor will somewhat make up for that. Hopefully at some point they'll release the old version to give people an option

Re: The Inkbrush Will Kick Off Splatoon 2's Free Additions on Launch Weekend

JayronAuron

Admittedly in the original game I was always in the category of people who didn't care about the Inkbrush since in my mind the Octobrush (which is already in the game at a higher lvl) was superior. Nevertheless I tried it out for the first time last night and loved it. I never realized it is both the fastest weapon at the start of the game (when no ink is available for swimming) and the fastest weapon on grates. Both of those advantages helped me come up with a few unique strategies for it that the Octobrush would be far less capable of carrying out. Plus I got a few kills on an Octobrush, which was pretty sweet.

@MrYuzhai During the initial months following the first game's release, I believe they released a pair of new weapons every other week. New stages were about once a month or so, and I think Splatfests were either once a month or with two week gaps in between them.

@Proust I would argue it should be called free DLC primarily to distinguish between all the paid DLC in games these days. While I can see the argument, the last thing the consumer needs is confusion on which type of DLC is being offered, especially when they are trying to understand how the remainder of the game's content will be offered.

Re: Splatoon 2's Next Splatfest Tackles A Challenging Choice Of Condiments

JayronAuron

My personal favorite condiment is Chipolte, hands down. Given that that isn't an option though, likely Mayo, because Tuna and Ham Salad are nothing without it...well that and Pickle Relish.

@chriiiiiiiiiis They're divided into three main groups...the Americas, Europe (I believe they includes Africa/Australia too, not certain), and Japan (I assume all of Asia is included). Mostly this is due to cultural reasons, since some of the Splatfest teams make more sense in some countries/cultures than others (like the sushi one they did for Japan in Splatoon 1)

Re: Splatoon 2 Has A Nasty Surprise In Store For Rage Quitters

JayronAuron

@gcunit Normally I wouldn't mind this too much, except that the original Splatoon was excessively militant about kicking anyone out who had so much as a minor drop. My wi-fi worked semi-okay (I didn't have a choice with our provider monopolizing the area and providing poor CS to boot), and yet after they added the function that booted people, I was kicked out of every match despite running smoothly with only minor exceptions. Splatoon 1 was one of my favorite Wii U games and they killed that for me. So if this function targets falsely perceived connection issues again, then I will be quite disappointed (admittedly the wi-fi issues have been fixed after losing out on one year of Splatoon 1's life). I have no problems with kicking out major connection problem occurrences, but not minor ones...especially not in the casual turf war.

Re: Former Project M Devs Unveil Icons: Combat Arena; It Sure Looks Like Smash Bros

JayronAuron

Having seen the trailer, it looks like a cross between Smash Bros and Guardians of the Galaxy...I get the feeling that was intentional.

@Broosh First of all, in spite of the Wii U, Smash 4 has had a great turnout...heck, the only reason participation numbers at EVO 2017 may have been reduced this year (I didn't look at the exact numbers but I heard they were) was due to serious issues with the venue last year that deterred people from returning. So I wouldn't say that the Smash-specific Wii U crowd is diminishing, at least from a competitive standpoint.

Second of all...correct me if I'm wrong, but don't steam players have Rivals of Aether? It certainly has shown up in a fair few tournament settings lately. I'm just not sure there's a real desire/market for a new third party game based off Smash Bros currently. If I'm wrong and there is, then great...more power to them.

Re: Nintendo Confirms Its Plans to Switch Things Up at San Diego Comic-Con

JayronAuron

The format for their little competition sounds vaguely familiar, like a certain NES world championship tourney they held. Guess this is the Switch World Championship.

Also, as a related side note, Pokken Tournament DX will be playable at EVO in Las Vegas this weekend (even though the Wii U version didn't make the cut for the lineup).

Re: Guide: Become a Pro ARMS Fighter with these 8 Great Techniques & Tips

JayronAuron

"You can't just apply the tactics you've picked up from other fighting games and expect to win, it's just too chuffing different."

Um, I've noticed quite a few tactics from Smash work (particularly baiting)...and honestly, the first half of those tips apply to games like Smash as well.

That said, good list for starting players to keep in mind.

Re: Something Big Is About To Happen To Pokémon GO's Gyms

JayronAuron

@Joeynator3000 While that is partially true, earlier this week (or late last week) their portal submission program on Ingress (which btw has already helped add many new pokestops as well, especially in certain rural locations) was recently expanded to allow lvl 15 ingress players to also make submissions.

Now granted, Pokemon Go players would much rather have the submissions on their end instead of Ingress, but they're clearly trying to gradually ease open the gate to minimize the inevitable flood of entries that would follow. Ingress players have been around playing for a lot longer on a somewhat similar game, and while I know we all have a list of locations that could use a stop or gym (or multiple), the highest leveled ingress players would (on average) have a lot more experience to say where areas could really use portals/stops.

That said, I do hope they open this program up to the highest leveled PoGo players at some point in the near future.

Re: First Impressions: Teaming Up in Splatoon 2's Salmon Run Co-Op Mode

JayronAuron

Having seen how chaotic this mode is, I can understand why they opted not to go down the split screen route and require separate consoles...there is simply too much going on to be able to play effectively in such a mode with a much more limited range of view. Still, it is disappointing nonetheless, as locating more friends of mine with a Switch may be tricky.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think of Nintendo's Big Switch and 3DS Reveals at E3 on Day One?

JayronAuron

@Tsuchinoko If memory serves, I believe Reggie said they would have more reveals. Probably lesser ones. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the Mario Party revealed last year occurred on day 2.

Also, if I were them and Smash was a thing, I'd drop the reveal following the conclusion of their invitationals tomorrow...

@Tulio517 Yes, or LAN battles at least. It requires multiple Switch units unfortunately, but I personally can't think of any way they could run a full battle on one through local.

Re: Pokkén Tournament DX Confirmed For Nintendo Switch

JayronAuron

Not surprising. But would it kill them to offer paid DLC on the Wii U for the few characters they ripped off Wii U users by withholding like Empoleon & Darkrai? Keep your Decidueye, just give us the others that were set to come out before you decided to pull this stunt and cancel their release to the Wii U unannounced.

Most ports I could care less about. But I'm torn on whether I really want to spend money on this and encourage a business practice like this. I enjoyed the game, but this is a bit frustrating.

Re: Rumour: Japanese Retailer References Pokkén Tournament in Switch Arcade Stick Listing

JayronAuron

@Lewieboy124 I have no problem with ports to the switch personally, and even though I owned most of these games that either have ports or have rumors surrounding a potential port, I don't begrudge them a Switch version, even one with new content.

That said, if Pokken gets ported, at least some of the "new" content won't be new; it will be content that was given to one of the two existing versions of the game during it's lifetime but not the other (I'm referring to the roster additions to the arcade versions in Japan). If my memory serves, some of the data for these characters was indeed discovered in the Wii U's files, so there were plans to bring them, but nothing ever occurred.

So if the Switch version does happen, I would like Nintendo to show some decency to the Wii U users and add the rest of the content that their version of the game was due to receive but never did. This isn't new content created specifically for the Switch version like MK8-D's battle mode, and if there is anything truly new beyond what the arcade has, they are welcome to keep it Switch-exclusive. But yes, I do draw a line for "new content" in ports for this case. This isn't bitterness over double-dipping; this problem predates the Switch.

Edit: Oh, and for those that might wish to label me an entitled fanboy for such an opinion, I would add that I personally don't even care if the content they add is via paid DLC, as this was never specified. They did something similar with Hyrule Warriors DLC after the 3DS variant came out, and I bought that content for the Wii U version without complaint. So if they want to make some money off my desire for the remaining characters, here's an open invitation.

Re: Rumour: Japanese Retailer References Pokkén Tournament in Switch Arcade Stick Listing

JayronAuron

My biggest frustration with Pokken Tournament was the lack of DLC support. The Japanese arcade variant got extra characters like Darkrai & Empoleon, and the Wii U version got squat. Not even paid DLC emerged. If the purpose was merely to hold it back so it can be released with a port on the Switch...well, I didn't care about MK8-D's methodology, but this one would aggravate me some, given that it was released on the arcades well in advance of the Switch.

Re: Poll: Who Would You Like To See In Super Smash Bros. For Nintendo Switch?

JayronAuron

I figure Inklings are guaranteed to get in due to their new game, so I would go with Shadow the Hedgehog. Honestly I'd prefer Silver more, but he doesn't deserve to get in nearly as much.

Hope they bring Wolf back. And for those saying they want Cloud gone...as a Cloud main I have seen evidence time and again to prove he isn't nearly as overpowered as everyone says he is. But if the port does happen, don't count on him being removed, or anyone else for that matter. It would make absolutely no sense to decrease the existing roster of a port.

Re: Guide: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Surviving Battles Against Guardians

JayronAuron

I usually just use the Lab's ancient shield for reflects, since deflection timing is not required...just hold it up and it auto-reflects.

At any rate, it really pays to practice skillful archery in this game. Doing that can kill guardians, flinch Lynels, and generally deter anything that would get you a 'game over' screen faster. And for those who have trouble eye-shotting a guardian, Stasis+ is your friend and can often buy you a bit more time to line up. Wait until they've stopped moving, just before they fire...that way when they break out they won't immediately move.

Also, if you are harvesting guardian graveyards and want to avoid attention, use stealth and either the Champion's Tunic or Stasis+ (the far better option) to betray the location of active guardians. Just be aware that there are rare situations in the game where full-scale stalkers may appear "dead."

Re: Video: Top Ten Weapons in Zelda: Breath of the Wild that Make Going Alone Less Dangerous

JayronAuron

Oh I use bombs all the time. Good for dealing with evasive enemies that circle you before attacking, as many pay no attention to the bombs. Early game I tossed a lot of bombs at enemies from behind walls, since they aren't smart enough to identify where the bombs came from.

Also, I'm not sure how many know this about bombs, but they are the only rune you can utilize with a paraglider. Pressing the button for runes will drop a bomb in mid-flight (without having to deactivate the paraglider like you do with bows), and pressing it again will detonate it.

As for my favorite bow, I loved the Phrenic bow a lot (haven't reached a point in the game where I can get a golden bow), but I really like the Ancient Bow. Fires the same way a Phrenic/Golden bow does, albeit without the scope.

Re: Guide: How To Beat Zelda: Breath Of The Wild's Hardest Shrine Quest, Eventide Island

JayronAuron

@AlexOlney Really? I figured you could just drop the stuff on the ground again before the final orb. I could be wrong though, as I never tried the whole exploit method.

This was one of my favorite trials thus far in the game (and I've done most of them). Wasn't hard, just long. I took Hinox down by first luring him over to the hill with the lightning chu chus and tossing explosive barrels down the hill on him (the boulders missed regrettably), then I did my usual hit-and run tactics on him that I normally pull on a Hinox. Halfway through I noticed the dragonbone weapons on his neck, so I hit him in the eye, then ran up and grabbed them off his neck to help finish him off. At the time the only champion blessing I had was Mipha's, and that wasn't even necessary.

The tricks I used for beating him are to save up as many arrows on the island as you can, be patient when attempting an eye shot, so you don't waste bow durability or arrows, and don't attempt anything too reckless against him.
