Re: EVO 2020 Has Been Officially Cancelled

JayronAuron

@TG16_IS_BAE From what I've seen from the smash bros competitive community side of things (which the community is in complete shambles right now from all the revelations come to light), the allegations against Mr. Wizard were backed up by solid evidence.

However there were a few instances of allegations against smash bros players/community leaders that have been shut down pretty quickly though due to being found to be false, so at least in that case, crying wolf has not helped. This whole thing has just been horrifying though, and the insane amount/varying levels of notoriety of the people being outed for terrible things is just staggering. I only have seen the Smash community side, but I hear it's everywhere in the FGC.

Re: Cooking Mama's IP Holder Evaluating Legal Options, After "Unauthorized Release" Of Cookstar

JayronAuron

@Wargoose They are defending their IP, which is being abused by the publisher against contract for a quick buck. To make matters worse, the PS4 version that Planet is pushing implies something even worse...either they are scamming the playerbase into ordering something that doesn't exist, or they are literally stealing the IP from Office Create and having another company port the game that they have no stake in the copyright of outside the confines of the contract they broke.

If anything you could say that one would be surprised that the publisher would be so silly, as they won't be able to show their faces to a developer ever again.

Re: ESRB Ratings Will Now Warn Players About Loot Boxes And Other Random Items

JayronAuron

Eh, this isn't exactly what I'd call "good news." This is ESRB taking a half measure they said they'd do a while ago but didn't and still ignoring the qualifications of their own ratings at the same time, like what they believe constitutes adult-rated "gambling" vs what they enforce. Better than nothing...barely. But they'll use this now as both a shield against accusations of their apathy, and as an excuse to do nothing more, so maybe not a great thing

Re: GameStop Is Temporarily Closing All Of Its Storefronts

JayronAuron

The reports that came out about the issues with how Gamestop higher-ups treated their employees in California is just sickening. Every bit of their PR is a lie, and it really makes me sad that all that gets brushed under the rug at the expense of the people that work for them.

I wish nothing but the best for the Gamestop employees, and I hope they are able to make it through this okay.

Re: Warframe's Lotus Joins Super Smash Bros. Ultimate As A Spirit

JayronAuron

Regarding discussion on Warframes being dlc...I don't really see it, as none of the lead warframes strike me as DLC content except maybe Mag and Volt. But I could see them being Mii costumes...especially Excalibur/Umbra. That would be sweet. A "This is Who You Are" track thrown in wouldn't hurt either.

Re: New Gen 4 Pokémon Leak Supposedly Shows Lots Of Scrapped Gender Differences

JayronAuron

@DanteSolablood I wouldn't say lesser. In nature the male is usually (obviously exceptions exist) the one with more pronounced features its species is known for (color, defense mechanisms, size, etc.) while the female is generally the opposite. There are two reasons: 1) It is often the female that chooses the male, rather than the other way around, so many of these features are necessary for attracting a female. 2) The male becomes the target for predation in place of the female to protect the young, while the female is generally more difficult for the predators to locate. So a lot of this makes at least some sense in reference to nature.

Re: The Pokémon Company Is Taking Legal Action Against Sword And Shield Leakers

JayronAuron

Hadn't heard about this, but I find it highly questionable. Regardless about what you think of the ethics of leakers that get inside info (I personally hate leakers), unless they signed an NDA the leakers really did nothing illegal. Given how long it has taken Pokemon to find them, it probably isn't an insider they're targeting, but I dunno.

Unless I'm mistaken, the only people Pokemon can rightfully take action against is anyone under NDA who leaked it, or some situation where laws were broken via theft of documents or hacking into their system to steal trade secrets.

If this is just a group of people who received some info from an inside source that leaked it, then I really hope those people aren't wrongfully targeted for it. Target the inside source instead, don't go using corporate intimidation tactics to scare people without an actual legal standing. If this is successful, the precedent that this would all set is a scary one.

@Xylnox NintendoLife did when they updated it. It was either that or put up an entirely new article I guess.

Re: Overwatch Begins Life On The Switch With Its Annual Halloween Event

JayronAuron

I was hoping for the longest time this game would come to the Switch, because it looks like a fun team PvP game. So when it did, I was really intrigued and strongly consided giving it a try.

But...after the whole Blitzchung debacle, I'm gonna probably refrain from a decision on whether to buy OW or not until Blizzard decides where they stand on basic human rights. I generally don't do this kinda thing with companies much, but in this case I just don't feel right about the whole thing.
I mean come on Blizzard, that fence has got to be painful to sit on for that long.

Re: Review: Mario Kart Tour - Steer Around The Gacha For A Fun, Free Take On The Series

JayronAuron

Thank you for taking the time to review the full game in its entirety, content and mtx's. Personally I'll stick with MK8D due to being that weirdo who drags his Switch around wherever he goes and plays it when time allows...no I'm not sorry

That said, if the Switch weren't portable...actually, I'd probably just play MK7 in that case. But this game has me a lot less annoyed than I was thanks to this review's insight, so thanks.

Re: Smash Bros. Ultimate Players Aren't Happy With New Online Tournament Rules

JayronAuron

I feel like Nintendo is doing this to solve a few issues with the online tourneys, but the way in which this was done just doesn't work. 2:30 and 2 stock is honestly fine for fast paced tourneys, but many people disliked how people would take advantage of sudden death by running away and running out the clock, using a character that may have an advantage in the Sudden Death format.

On the other hand, 1 stock matches are lasting an average of 25 seconds. One mistake and you're out. The biggest problem I have with this is it stops being a tourney really...at least in 2 stock you have the opportunity to figure out what your opponent is doing and fix your game plan. Also, if Nintendo was trying to ensure players get to their next match faster, they may have succeeded, but at the cost of players being in loading screens and waiting lobbies so much longer than gameplay, since gameplay lasts at most 45 sec, maybe longer if someone is playing a run-away-and-spam-projectiles character.

It's unfortunate. I may keep playing because it's still slightly more fun for me than quickplay and lobbies, but winning now feels like you cheated an opponent who didn't know how to play against you and didn't have time to learn.

Re: Super Mario Themed Smash Bros. Ultimate Tournament Starts Later This Week

JayronAuron

@Liam_Doolan You may also want to report that the regular online tournament rulesets for 1v1 and Free-for-All formats got changed for the first time last night. 1v1 is now 1 stock instead of 2.

https://www-aaaba-lp1-hac.cdn.nintendo.net/en-US/1on1/index.html?from_game=1&na_lang=en-US&na_country=US

...and it's complete garbage sadly. Ruined my favorite online mode. I also hate the themed tourneys because they only ever do FFA (which gets really laggy), never any 1v1. It's unfortunate, I like the concept otherwise.

Re: Nintendo Switch System Update 9.0.0 Is Now Live

JayronAuron

I still keep desperately hoping for a system update that adds universal Capture button video clip functionality not tied to individual games, instead of the useless crap it is now. I've literally only used it on BotW and Splatoon 2, and only a few times. This thing has so much potential and yet they'd rather require archaic things like Smash Ultimate's replay system.

...yea, I know, business as usual for Nintendo. One can dream. Or get a capture card, but I'm not that desperate.

Re: Poll: Have You Ever Had Problems With Nintendo Hardware?

JayronAuron

Hmm...let's see. Not sure any console or handheld of mine has ever not had issues after a few years, though usually from extensive use over the years. The Wii U and Switch were actually the exceptions.

>GBA SP - L & R buttons failed after extensive use
>DS - L & R buttons failed after extensive use. A replacement was dropped later on in its life and the hinge broke (the only incident I can recall that wasn't hardware issues or wear & tear)
>DSI - L, R, and left on the D-pad broke. Go figure.
>Wii - Disc read error issues, especially regarding Brawl (same as mentioned in the article). Replacement still functions
>3DS - L & R buttons, Joystick rubber covering eroded due to extensive use, paint chipped off of the D-pad
>Wii U - small crack on the Gamepad's screen later in life (didn't impact much), Wi-Fi interference issues between the gamepad and console in certain locations like my college dorm. It ruined a lot of great games for me sadly.
>Switch - crack in the console casing back, as has been mentioned above in the article.

My controllers have all worked well when family members don't leave batteries in to leak acid over the inside of the casing. But cleaning them fixed most of the issues. And no Joycon drift yet, but it's only a matter of time...I just don't use them very often so I have probably gotten away with it so far.

Re: Smash Bros. Pro Player Banned From Tournament After Match Fixing Admission

JayronAuron

@DABYX Actually, an anonymous twitter user going by SmashBrosTruth announced they were going to soon break news about Zack by posting a video clip from one of the matches he blackmailed Ally to throw. Soon after this picture was posted, Zack confessed to the matchfixing before the anonymous account could follow up on that threat.

While it's unknown who exactly the anonymous account was owned by (and the account was deleted), evidence suggests it was the blackmail recipient, Ally, posting anonymously to avoid the lack of credibility he now has.

Re: Soapbox: The Nintendo World Championships Is Tired, And So Am I

JayronAuron

I agree the Smash bros thing was really frustrating. I don't have a dog in the fight with competitive SMM or Splatoon 2, so they were fun to watch. But smash bros was neither good competitively or casually.

The seeding round made me the most angry. The incident for those who didn't watch was as follows: Europe plays Japan for the seeding round. Europe wins game one, a singles match. The 2nd round is doubles, and it is a tie in the score (they're running time, not stock, with no score so nobody can tell who is winning unless you are laser-focused on the match). Nintendo's decision for the tiebreaker (they apparently had this rule beforehand but did not tell anyone) is to take the total points from both games to determine the winner. Sounds great? One problem: the reason very reason for the tiebreaker is a tie in points from game 2, therefore game 1 is the sole determining factor...which was already won by Europe in points. So essentially game 1 was counted twice for Europe. They should've just used the competitive strat of looking at combined percent of the teams at the time of the game ending or something...at least that would've been a better way of handling it.

It would be nice if Nintendo took a cue from the Casual Invitational run at Frostbite 2019 by Alpharad...that embraced items and borderline strange stages, but removed some of the more RNG/healing stuff that makes for poor viewership and campier gameplay.

Re: Brand New Pokémon And Legendaries Revealed For Pokémon Sword And Shield

JayronAuron

I'm okay with some of these, but the others feel like they take a few too many design elements of their predecessors. The legendaries just feel like they took one wolf Pokemon design and converted it into two Pokemon. While they've done stuff like that before (Lat@s), I just wish they had differentiated the designs for what is supposed to be the cover art legendaries a bit more. Gossifleur looks way too much like a middle-stage evolution of Lilligant, while it's evo Eldegoss sadly looks nothing like it and instead has designs resembling Roselia. It's a better looking cotton Pokemon than Whimsicott at least. I do like Corviknight. The concept mimics Skarmory, yes, but the execution does not, so that's good.

I really enjoyed Pokemon up through Gen 7, and I really want a reason to come back and play it again, but I'm worried a lot of the same issues I had before with the game will still persist.

...also, Dolphin Pokemon pls. I'm sad it hasn't happened by now.

Re: Nintendo Announces Mario Kart Tour Closed Beta Test For Android Devices

JayronAuron

Well that's unfortunate. I tried to sign up for the beta, but it seems there is one more little gotcha that they are a bit picky on...your email used for your Nintendo account and Play store account must be the same (which mine is), AND they won't accept any email except a Gmail. That sucks.

I have a Gmail, but it's a school one and really not worth it to me to go through all those hoops to change both my play store email and my Nintendo one just for a demo. Ah well, was worth a shot.

Re: Super Mario Maker 2 Launches For Switch On 28th June

JayronAuron

@BAN If you've noticed, the last two weeks we've been getting tons of various info on games that would otherwise belong in a direct. Smash Bros 3.0 stuff, Super Mario Maker release date, Starlink content, Travis DLC, along with several launch trailers for smaller games. You can see just from their Youtube channel how much stuff has been coming through the pipes (no pun intended) lately. It really is enough to justify a direct. The question of course is...why haven't they?

I guess we can chalk it up to a combination of the adjustments in leadership at NoA and the fact that they may just not have any big announcements right now to round off a direct. It is a bit weird though...you would think they could at least show off some Mario Maker details as the "hook" for such a direct, or the next Smash Bros DLC. I'm convinced something went wrong and they fully intended for a direct this week or last week but had complications and opted not to do so.

Re: Video: YouTube Content Creators Team Up With Nintendo To Promote Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

JayronAuron

@Regpuppy Agreed. In ESAM's case, his Nintendo-sponsored video was far more wooden than his others, but the rest of his are far more entertaining. I guess that's what happens when you have to follow a list of bullet points instead of doing things more naturally. He hasn't made a Nintendo sponsored video in a very long time (if ever) though, so it's hard for anyone to realistically call people a sellout. The dude is top 50 in the world in Smash Bros for Wii U...it only makes sense that Nintendo would partner with him for something.

@Joeynator3000 I do, and the quality of some videos have improved since then when people have incentives to learn how to improve their videos. Yea, it also encourages people who just try to put out low effort clickbait videos, but I just avoid the garbage content in light of the positives, with quality content I enjoy.

Also, I find it ironic how people are choosing to blame Nintendo game-centric youtubers (I can't speak for all of these guys as I only know a few of them) for being sellouts, given all we've heard over the years about Nintendo's over-strict policies that prevent anyone from making decent money.
