Re: Video: New Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Clip Promotes More Fighters, Stages And Fun

JayronAuron

@FlameRunnerFast The story mode actually does have unique boss battles. We don't know exactly how many obviously, but Galleom from Subspace is guaranteed returning, along with new ones like Rathalos and Dracula (he isn't 100% confirmed, just very strongly implied with footage that didn't line up with his stage).

I understand the disappointment that it isn't a full-fledged Subspace Emissary sequel, but we won't know exactly what all it contains until it releases. I would venture to guess that there may even be a few areas that require exploration like Subspace, just not as many. But I wouldn't say this game is a lot shallower in terms of content.

@MikeW I am sad about the lack of a homerun/targets mode (that we know of), but there still is an all-star mode, it's just been changed to work differently from past iterations.

Re: Masahiro Sakurai Reveals Nintendo Has Already Selected DLC Fighters For Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

JayronAuron

Well that makes things interesting. I'm a little concerned about the premise of "Nintendo" choosing DLC over Sakurai...that's a very ambiguous case, since it begs the question of who/whom is actually making the decision. I would also tend to expect that this will reduce the number of third-party characters (but not eliminate them).

Here's my list, assuming that the ONLY deconfirming factor is Assist Trophy/Pokeball Status:

1) Mipha - we need a LoZ rep that isn't part of the tri-Force. Nintendo may simply request that Sakurai choose one champion, and Mipha of the four would bring the most unique new playstyle to Ultimate as a trident user. Plus you could very easily add alt costumes based off past Zora, as the Zora are the most reoccurring groups in LoZ of the four.

2) Rex & Pyra - dependent on what Sakurai meant in his comment during the direct, but I don't believe that comment ruled them out for DLC, only the base game. Nintendo will want another rep for this popular series, so I fully expect them. It'll be interesting to see how the blade mechanic gets integrated.

3) Geno - No, I don't think Nintendo is entirely deaf to the pleas of the fans, especially given the money that this would bring them.

4) Tails - People may be frustrated with the direction of Sonic games, but it still could use another rep. With Shadow (& Knuckles) out, Tails makes sense.

5) I'm not sure on the last one. I'd say it's a tossup between Ribbon Girl, a Kirby character like Bandana Dee, or a 3rd party. Sakurai probably wouldn't include an Arms character, but I would not put it past Nintendo to do so.

Re: Soapbox: It's Not Cool To Lock Pokémon Behind A Paywall

JayronAuron

Yea, it's not a $350 issue for me, more of a $50-60 issue since I've bought a switch for other stuff, but the point I still agree with. However I would argue that this is HARDLY the first time Pokemon has put stuff behind a veritable paywall...ever wonder why move tutors (other than the starter ones) don't show up till the next wave of games in a generation? Yeeeeeaaaa...as someone who loved building teams, this killed my enjoyment of the main games.

@Santaman64 Actually, to be fair we don't know if you'll be able to trade Meltan. It is a "mythical" class Pokemon, and up until now you have not been allowed to trade mythical Pokemon in Pokemon Go

Re: Zen Studios Under Fire For Censorship In Pinball FX3, Explains It Was To Keep Game "Family-Friendly"

JayronAuron

Meh, who cares? If it's really that big a deal, wait a bit and somebody will make a mod restoring the original artwork back for those who want it. Pinball was a fun thing to play with my family in my childhood, so I totally get their reasoning. Unless I'm missing something, the modding community will fix the extra things people are taking issue with. I'm just glad that Zen put the work into this so it could happen in the first place.

Re: Video: Watch Over An Hour Of Competitive Super Smash Bros. Ultimate With No Items

JayronAuron

@AlexSora89 Yea. They could always release a modified version of the demo that lacks any extra tools, but given all the effort they've put into making the demo available in as many locations as possible (In NA at least...they still seem to be sorely lacking in demo opportunities in other parts of the world), I feel this is a subtle hint that they have no plans to release an online demo pre-launch.

Re: Nintendo Keeps Switch Online Cloud Saves For 180 Days After Membership Expiry

JayronAuron

@OorWullie Honestly, unless I'm mistaken the plagiarism incident was one dude who upon being exposed was taken care of swiftly by IGN, whereupon they then issued apologies and reimbursed the affected parties. I don't particularly like the site, but their zero-tolerance for plagiarism was commendable. They can't really be blamed for one of their writers turning bad at some point (though I'm surprised their reader base didn't catch his actions sooner).

Re: This Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Guidebook Will Teach You Everything You Need To Know

JayronAuron

This brings nostalgia of my first Smash Bros game I played (Brawl), since my parents bought it with the guide to it. Was actually a really good guide for a casual player, and included everything from moves to items to slightly more advanced techniques. A few months back I finally dug it up from its hiding place in my room and flipped though it. Had I been the child that read such things thoroughly enough, I might actually have become a competitive player sooner.

Re: Telltale Games Voice Actor Posts Message About Incomplete Projects

JayronAuron

Forget the games.

I genuinely hope the all the jobless employees get jobs before their families suffer severely for this mismanagement, as this was worse than perhaps some realized. One former developer (Emily Buck I believe was the name) noted on twitter that many of these employees were living "paycheck to paycheck" and in the area where the studio is, the high price of living will overrun them in no time. She also confirmed (mentioned by a few other news outlets too) that NONE of them got severance pay and that their healthcare lasts till the end of the week. I saw reports on some other news sites indicating that employees were not told until the day of, then given 30 minutes to clear out of the building.

This was far worse for them than NL reported it to be, I'm sorry to say. I sincerely hope this doesn't get worse, especially given the circumstances. I will say that she at least did rally to get game companies to hire some of the devs ASAP, which is awesome. I'm not sure how many though.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (September 8th)

JayronAuron

The main multiplayer games I play online with friends are Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Worms: WMD, both on the Switch. I will probably play both this weekend. Other than that, I hope to get some more practice in on Smash Bros for Wii U this week/weekend, since I got back into competitive playing for the first time since February. If I wanna be good at Ultimate, I have to keep improving at Smash 4 to maintain my techniques and stuff. Not everything will transfer over, but some will along with most character knowledge and fundamentals...and I'm rusty on all of them.

Re: Has Nintendo Accidentally Revealed The Entire Cast Of Super Mario Party?

JayronAuron

Nice roster. Part of me hopes we might get some free updates down the road with a few extra characters, similar to how Mario Tennis Aces was handled. But to be honest, it really isn't that big of a deal. I would also pay for DLC boards, which would be a bigger deal, especially if this game ends up being as good as it tentatively looks. After all, my one concern thus far is the fact that I haven't really seen too many game boards, but I could be mistaken.

@uhhhhhhhh I guess some would count it as a spoiler, given that some of these are unlockable characters.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think Of The Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Direct?

JayronAuron

I wish the UI had been among the choices for things I liked in the direct, because that one is #2 for me. I've learned to live with Smash 4's UI, but that doesn't mean I've come to like it.

...and being a pretty good Samus main in Smash 4, I'm glad she has a glimmer of hope now, since Dark Samus has an actual roll for once. Maybe they improved some things with Samus too since E3? One can only hope, but I'm glad to have Dark Samus as a backup option.

Re: Feature: What's Left To Be Announced For Smash Bros. Ultimate On Switch?

JayronAuron

I'd say Shadow is more likely than Tails at this point, for multiple reasons. It seems more people want him in than tails, and he now has a good likelyhood due to Dark Samus' promotion from trophy to echo, and he's in an extremely similar situation.

Here's the other pattern to notice though...the kinds of characters being added. This has been noted by others on the internet as well as a rumor (although I seem to recall this particular rumor has a lot that was debunked), but a lot of the characters being added are actually villains. Ridley, K Rool, Dark Samus...given that prior Smash bros games have a very low number of villains in them, this could indicated a theme of the yet-to-be-revealed-but-now-very-likely story mode. To further add credence to this idea is the K Rool reveal trailer. I get it, they were trying to hint towards what was about to be revealed by showing all of these other Hero-villain rivalries, but you have to admit it was a bit unusual of a start to a trailer, and didn't really match things well. I would not put it past Sakurai or whoever designs these trailers for it to be a hint towards the story mode. We now have enough villain-hero combinations for it to make sense. Shadow the hedgehog would give us yet another one (yes I know he's more of an anti-hero than a true "villain", but you know pit-dark pit would receive the same treatment, so...).

Re: Random: Purple And Yellow Chairs In Smash Bros. Direct Fuel Speculation Waluigi Will Be Playable Fighter

JayronAuron

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if something happened. I mean, Waluigi wasn't in the demo, just in the trailer, and if this was some elaborate troll that leads to his announcement, then it falls perfectly within the character that is Waluigi. If you question whether Sakurai is paying attention to players and very eager to troll people, I cite the beginning of the E3 direct and the King K. Rool trailer, although I can think of a few more subtle jabs in the trailers as well.

That said, I fully agree that, outside of an elaborate pre-E3 plan, it's impossible.

@Silly_G I agree that the premise of adding a character based purely on his popularity as a meme is questionable. However, I do have to ask how exactly Pauline has more credibility than Daisy as a character? I dislike Daisy strongly, but she along with Pauline were two of the first female characters in the Mario series. Both kinda vanished into obscurity for a time, but while Pauline only really returned in Mario v DK games (which were never super-popular), Daisy had quite a few reappearances, especially in the various party/sports games. So they both have notable historic significance in Mario, but only Daisy has really had the longevity. Odyssey is Pauline's only real notability outside her origin game.

My Mario game history knowledge isn't always the best, but I loved both the original Donkey Kong and Super Mario Land. I'm just trying to figure out if there's anything I'm missing there.

Re: Guide: Pokémon GO Gen 4 Pokémon List - Every Gen 4 Pokémon Ahead Of The Update

JayronAuron

Ugh...nobody proofread this. Categories are not lined up at all.

This info is something most Pokemon fans know. You may as well just post a Pokedex and not call it a Pokemon Go article. Not to mention that half of these won't actually show up in Pokemon Go for many months, sadly.

If you want to make this a useful non-clickbait article, a discussion piece of what Pokemon to keep an eye out for (which ones become the best of their role/type, etc) would be super helpful. There are a few such bits of info circulating on Silphroad as of yesterday that I spent 30 min reading.

Re: Psyonix Announces Rocket League: Ultimate Edition, Arrives End Of The Month On Switch

JayronAuron

After they fixed a lot of the software crashing issues, I came back to the game and started playing again, only to have the servers for the Switch almost devoid of people and the software crashing issues returned, albeit in reduced amounts. According to the devs they are still present, just greatly reduced. That basically killed my excitement for the game again.

I'm was still trying to learn the game but dejected at all the issues that triggered software crashes, so at this point the only thing that would bring me back long-term would be cross-platform parties. Once that comes, I'll be able to play with my friends and family that play on steam. Then I'll get back into it.

Re: Hori's Mario And Zelda Themed D-Pad Joy-Con Limited To Handheld Mode Arrives Locally This September

JayronAuron

Given all the lost features on this thing and limited use, it's not worth $25 to me, and that's even if I did utilize the joycons in handheld mode like this. I prefer using a pro controller with the stand up in handheld mode, so this isn't ideal.

The problem is, normally I would like to see Nintendo make an official D-pad Joycon, but only if the quality of it isn't as horribly bad as the Switch Pro Controller one is. That one made me so disappointed. I would prefer a D-pad more in line with the New 3DS XL, where erroneous inputs are far less likely. If that isn't possible, I'll stick with the D-pad buttons...I don't really mind them that much, and I like them far more than the Switch Pro Controller D-pad.

Re: Hori Announces Three New GameCube-Inspired Controllers For Nintendo Switch

JayronAuron

I'm curious to see a review on these...while Hori generally produces decent controllers, it's no mystery that third party GC controllers can be a mixed bag from time to time. I'm a pro controller player myself for the purposes of Smash Bros competitive play, but if these are quality controllers I may pick one up, since I host a lot of gaming events but only have one single GC controller for people.

Re: Latest Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Update Adds Free Breath Of The Wild Content

JayronAuron

I quit playing Splatoon 2's DLC for the night (I was late getting around to finishing it) and saw MK8D updating. Needless to say, I'm loving this. MK8D is still one of the few games I can play on the Switch with friends of mine that have moved away (until Ultimate of course), so I'm super happy that the previous info about more updates was actually indicating more than just a mere "stability" update.

Re: Minecraft's Aquatic Update Phase Two Gets Wet And Wild Today On Switch

JayronAuron

@SmaMan Myy most miserable (yet still exciting at times) survival build ever was an attempt to build a series of massive undersea glass domes on the deep ocean floor, with glass tunnels connecting each of the domes.

Again, this was on Survival mode.

No cheats, just a ton of glass via desert biome, only about 9 extended water breathing potions, and 4 sponges I stole from an Undersea Monument. Took a month, but I got one house-sized dome and one mansion-sized dome carved with one passageway. Then the world got deleted due to unfortunate circumstances outside my control.

Re: Strange Rifts Are Appearing All Over Fortnite's Map Post Blast Off Event

JayronAuron

For all the arguments of what's worth posting news on, at least we can agree it isn't as bad as the Pokemon Go stuff, with articles that basically just declared mechanics were mere RNG when the title implied there was something to it (I'm looking at you, Wurmple).

...and I love Pokemon Go, but still didn't like that. I'll take actual news in Fortnite any day over that.

Re: Pichu And Ice Climbers Receiving Ultimate amiibo Makeover For Super Smash Bros.

JayronAuron

Given the lack of stores that sell Amiibos anymore, I genuinely don't look forward to getting any in the slightest. Sure, I want a Ridley and Young Link one, and if they release ones for Zelda, Ganondorf, and BotW Link I'll go for those too, but online ordering for amiibo is garbage, and always has been with a few minor examples. I hope Gamestop actually gets stock, otherwise I'll be empty handed on all counts. Purchases from scalpers never have been, and never will be an option for me.

Re: Super Smash Bros. Fans Are Harassing Masahiro Sakurai Over Waluigi Snub

JayronAuron

It really aggravates me when people do such garbage and selfish things to individuals who devote their entire lives to creating games that are loved the world round. Not just in cases like Smash Bros, although I can relate more to frustrations with people in that community since I myself thoroughly enjoy the game and participate in its competitive aspects.

People like this do not represent the better part of the Smash bros competitive scene (or the casual scene), but their loud actions tend to overshadow external perceptions of the game and its players as a whole. My main frustration here is how poorly people treated Sakurai here, but this is another aspect of a far bigger problem...one that extends far beyond the reach of Smash Bros or even gaming as a whole.

I feel like to some extent the whole fiasco with anger against Bayonetta has also gone way too far. People lack the patience to wait and see what will happen with her once the actual tournaments in Ultimate begin...they're too busy trying to find more gasoline to throw on their torches.

Re: Guide: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate: Confirmed Characters, Stages, And Release Date - Everything We Know So Far

JayronAuron

@FoxyGlen I found one more major announcement for the game cited in the Day 2 treehouse that somehow was not cited in the Direct...STAGE HAZARDS CAN BE TURNED OFF FINALLY!! Based on the conversation and confirmation, this appears to be all stages, and they said this would be in the final build of the game, not just the demo.

Link to where this was referenced in the Treehouse Day 2 video: https://youtu.be/8O-ZUXGcuWU?t=7h57m29s

I am a very happy person.

Re: Officially-Licensed GameCube Controllers Are On The Way For Switch

JayronAuron

If Nintendo releases one of their own like they did with Smash for Wii U, great. But these won't sell that well I'd bet. Competitive players will either go with Nintendo-made ones, or they will go with quality custom ones like Battle Beavers or Controller Chaos. New players probably won't care about which controller they start with, and so Joy Cons or Pro Switch Controller is more likely.

The main way these will be bought is by casual players who want more controllers their friends can use without having to break the bank on Joy-Con/Pro Switch Controllers.

Re: Review: Lode Runner Legacy (Switch eShop)

JayronAuron

Really enjoyed playing Lode Runner many years ago alongside my father, and managed to get him in the room to play coop with me on here. We're rusty, but it's a lot of fun. I look forward to trying out the custom levels.

Re: Rocket League Version 1.0.5 Is Now Available For Download

JayronAuron

@Jeronan This is one of the many things I did while working with their support team unfortunately. They eventually came to the conclusion that it wasn't my hardware

@OorWullie Yea, it's tied to the victory crates somehow...I just don't get how it is crashing 10x as much for some people yet is a minor annoyance or less for the rest.

@Old-Red Actually, it's not just me, though admittedly it's not everyone either.

https://www.reddit.com/r/RocketLeague/comments/7xm594/game_is_barely_playable_on_switch_right_now/?st=jflck2of&sh=b1445a44

Also, in one of the more recent threads by Psyonix, some of the individuals who had these issues questioned whether this issue would be fixed by this time. The developer replied that it wouldn't, but the issue is actively being pursued. Myself and most of the others with this problem also went through the support route (a highly responsive support team they have, albeit not always suggesting things that have a chance of helping)...and at least for me, I received a second reassurance that they were working towards fixing the issue.

Basically, it's a waiting game for me. I know it will eventually get fixed, but until them I'm virtually sidelined (pun not intended). On a game that is addicting as this one, that's disappointing, but I'll live.
