Matching Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons Sure Look Pretty

I'm not liking the launch colors, personally. Really hope some nicer colors happen by the time I buy a Switch.

But in all seriousness, I still prefer the black joy-cons.

I'll definitely be picking up that extra Joycon pack to go with my neon Switch after MK8 Deluxe comes out. That way when I play multiplayer, I'll have a blue controller and my friend could have a red, or vice versa.

I still don't get why they made the only color option a mix... It's so terrible. Should've made grey/red/blue. Heck, replace grey with black xD

I hope the switch upgrades like an iPhone or every year or two make the system a little more powerful one step at a time.

I noticed the blue+red Switch is inverse of the red+blue Joy-Con pair two weeks ago, so I pre-ordered both of these, plus two grey Joy-Con pairs! I also pre-ordered four Pro Controllers, so I'll now have controllers for at least four players for every game imaginable!

The first sentence of this article is so biased I couldn't even get beyond it. Do you want a gaming device (sleek grey) or a ugly clown car (neon red and blue)?

I always thought having mismatched joy cons looked kind of dumb, Which is why I was gonna get the grey ones, but I'm liking the colors when they're matched, so I might go that route.

It's like they planned this all along...

They're also selling the red set and the blue set in case you got the gray one initially. To have all 3 sets you need to buy either Switch and two additional sets.

I like the Neon colours, but there'll probably be a lot more colours to choose from by the time I get around to grabbing a Switch.

Would I be right in saying that if u got the grey ones with the system, then they're would be no way to be able to pick up colored ones that match?

I still don't understand why they didn't release them like this. I'm only getting the gray one because I don't like the non-matching colors.

Metroid, F-Zero, Starfox, Smash, Mario Maker, get us a few exclusives third party titles too damn it!! We need a wide range for all genres! Shooters, Third Person games, get someone to make an exclusive racer! Get Namco to make us an exclusive Soul Calibur with characters from The Legend of Zelda, Fire Emblem & Golden Sun damn it!!

The only color that would have tempted me would have been Zelda Gold.

I have the grey one preordered. I planned on buying an extra set of Joy-Con. I hate the idea of having different coloured ones. It just seems so asymmetric and therefore ugly. So seriously, if I buy the gray system, and I then later want blue matching joy cons, there would be no way for me to get the left joy con in blue because they always sell the blue one as the right joy con. The only way to get it as the left is to buy it with the system. And vice versa for the red. That kinda blows

If they had matched I would have bought the neon pack in blue. I'll stick with grey and hope for a Luigi set.

They do look nice. Requires the spending of more money of course to make that happen.

@Alshain01 - I think that was some good (and good) old fashioned leg pulling, rather than bias.

I rather like what Nintendo are doing here. It's the grey/black all the way for me, cos it looks more 'grown up' and techy, but I completely respect the views of those - including my wife - who prefer the colours because they are more 'fun'.

I prefer my devices colourless, black & white. Those expressive colours make the switch look a little cheap in my opinion.

Not a fan of the blue at all. Will most likely get the gray sku and the red joycons on the side. Although I can't get the system day 1 sadly so hopefully an sku with just red joycons will be released before splatoon2 is. That'll save me at least 100 bucks.

They are extremely attractive. Not $90 attractive, but attractive nonetheless.

@PotatoTheG Nintendo will take the gamepads out of the unsold Wii U's and cut the sides off and resell them as joy-cons.

Hmm. Strange that base.com is the only site I can see that carries a twin pack of the same color. That's a UK site, I can't find any in the US, which is where I am.

I went for the Neon system but the second we get Super Famicom themed Joycons I'm switching (no pun intended).

Between the pro controller and the two system joy-cons, that is 3 controllers. I'll likely hold off on more until ARMS...

That red one is exactly what i've been planning on getting. I think it looks pretty nice

They do look good but, I've gone for the grey because the dock will likely be right next to the TV and the coloured joy con would be too distracting, lovely as they are. I'll probably pick up an extra set if I see a need. Might wait for some deals or else some special editions. I like the dev kit black.

Am I the only one who loves the grey joycons? Even if both came packaged as one uniform color, I still would've chosen the grey ones. Now, white and black would've swayed my choice...

I'm pretty sure they're selling dual neon-blue Joycon and dual neon-red Joycon, so you should be alright.

I preordered the neon switch, not because I LIKE them(I don't), but the grey looks...sterile. I would have preferred they had a matching option, both look better than the mis match.

If they HAD to go mismatch, why not a green and gold? It could have been marketed as a Zelda edition. Could have marked it up and sold quite a few.

I want to see both red joy con in the red grip to see if its a complete neon red match or if the grip is plain red and it looks dumb

The matching colors look so gorgeous, but the mismatch just jumps out like woah, so sexy.

Only reasonable solution is to buy a Switch in each color and grab the complimentary set of mismatched Joycons 😉 (seriously though, that is my solution)

Certainly going to make the purchase to have all red joycons on my Switch, though not right away.

And guys, its Nintendo. There'll be zillions of colours in the future. The choices at least are better then just being stuck with Black like every other console...

@Switch81tch oh you'd better believe they are coming! Probably next year though, they have to wait for everyone to buy all that they need, so that those new designs cause us to buy more than we need later. Just good marketing sense is all that it is.

Damn. Too bad I hadn't realized this earlier. I'd have grabbed the neon Switch then an extra pair of neon joycon for the full blue set. But I guess grey is the color that will go with pretty much everything... and light blue isn't that great a shade anyway.

I prefer the black one the developers unit have.

I really thought that matching colours would look better than that. The mismatched colour scheme is actually growing on me but I’m still sticking with grey.

I would also like a dark purple option or at least a more subdued shade, as the neon shade is simply not to my liking.

Personally, I like the harlequin colors. That is the whimsy I look for in a Nintendo console. That's where Nintendo's personality shows up. But it's nice that the extra controllers are reverse colors, gives you multiple options so you can switch things up every so often.

@Errorno Im not sure about other countries, but Amazon.ca (Canada) has the option to buy dual colored pair, 2 blues or two reds.

Shhh with calling grey boring. We don't all want luminous controllers! Y'all be happy with grey if there wasn't a colourful alternative.

Also it seems hardly anyone is reviewing a grey version of the unit. Did you all get to choose or did they just send out randomly? Seems a bit grey-cist if you ask me...

Just add colored grips on the cheap. Probably a good idea to have them anyways. You know when that relative or friend who was born with sweaty hands wants to play your system.

But the Joy-Con certainly open up interesting possibilities, like switching out the left one with an alternate Joy-Con with an actual D-Pad. That's what I care about (more so than colours).

Blue and red isn't my first choice. I'm aiming for grey, and will change it up in the future.

So much better than the two mismatched together. I wouldve bought a neon red Switch if it was an option but I don't like the red and blue together.

Wow they look nice together as one colour. That's why I'm getting the grey cause I like it boring and symmetrical

I really like the colors a lot. I want the sets of red and blues and I hope they come out with sets of greens and yellows.

I also like the matching set, it's a lot better than mismatched socks.

@Applewithasn they'll probably come out with yellow or green Joy-Con's when they do a new Dinky Kong game for Switch.

I bet they'll come out with something like Mario and Luigi Joy-Cons, with like one red controller with the red and white M symbol for Mario, then one green with a white and green L symbol for Luigi.

So much potential, hope Nintendo delivers.

I actually think the mismatched colors were a smart choice to make the thing stand out. If this thing takes off I could see the Neon becoming iconic imagery versus the grey which looks like everything else.

Got the neon red and blue preordered. But tbh the colors i like the most is the deep Black from the dev kits. They look so smooth and classy. So much better than the boring Grey. But hey , i take what i can get. Even if it was Orange or something im buying switch. Still... That Black Man... Looks sooo good

@saturn_hero my understanding (People can correct me if I'm wrong) is that the single colour Neon Joy-Con packs are not coming out at launch but possibly at a later date in the future.

@GauBan Too Late... But I'm still pretty confident as there has been no stock-out on Amazon.fr since launch... It's possible that France is not a big Nintendo territory, or that we have more stock, I don't know... And it seems that in France there is more pre-order on the Grey ones anyway... Got both Grey and Neon on order (2 gamer houehold) and a load of other bits (think total is around £1,000) but the company I'm will not ship until 2nd using a courier. Normally it's shipped via normal mail and arrives a couple of days early.

So was hoping to get my Switch on 2nd then I was gonna go to a midnight launch and just stand there from about 7pm playing Zelda (With a USB battery pack of course). Like I've done with almost every portable. Even something weeks or months in advance because I brought import units. LOL

Um, okay. It was never all that hard to make matching sets. We already knew they were selling pairs and singles of both colors.

I saw that they sell joy-con pairs in the same color too. I might get the blue ones at some point, since they fit Link's blue tunic in BotW pretty well.

I'd say it was boring grey and hideous neon... Not buying one until they release a nice colour. Gutted when I bought a black 3ds only for the white one too release 2 weeks later, not making that mistake again!

If I do color, I need two blue, so if I bought the reverse package, then I'd sell my reds. For now, I am aiming to get the gray joy-con Switch though.

I really wasn't in to those optional colors but now that I've seen the single left and right colors paired up I'm really digging the blue. If only there were optional L-versions with a proper D-Pad then I would buy an additional pair in that color.

Japan has the coolest bit where you can choose what colours you want. So you can get full red or full blue if you want.
