Everyone's got their own ideas about who they'd like to appear in the hype-intensive Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo Switch, and over at NL Towers we're no exception.
The potential list is frankly endless, so we decided to limit ourselves to the good old fashioned list of ten just to prevent this video and article going on indefinitely. Make sure you check out the video above, or if you're just here to see a list of names with no explanation, hold your clicking finger for just a moment and gaze upon the list below:
10. Labo Man
9. Helix
8. Tetra
7. King K. Rool
6. Shantae
5. Shovel Knight
4. Ribbon Girl
3. Banjo & Kazooie
2. Dark Samus
1. Waluigi
Who do you want to appear in this latest entry? Let us know in the comments below.

Of the whole.list I feel Tetra's ship has essentially sailed.
No Daisy?!?!
I feel like characters such as Banjo and Kazooie would only become a reality in Smash if they had plans for future games.
Knowing Rare I think it's become wishful thinking, like Gordon Freeman from Half-Life.
MONITA. I will bring her up every time, I do not care
More wish-listy than usual
I only see Shovel Knight or one of the ARMS characters who have a decent shot at getting to be in the game that too not that high of a chance either.
I won't be surprised if we get none of these characters and instead see more Fire Emblem characters as usual
Rex and Pyra from XC2 ofc
Is it King Cruel or Kinky Rule?
@GrailUK
Can't it be both?
<--
Needs Trevor or Simon Belmont. Or Alucard.
Or all of them.
Simon Belmont and Bomber,an but to be honest Brawl was so bad I just want a SSB4 port as at least that was good. No Melee but far better than casual city
If an Arms character makes it,its definitely going to be Springman.I agree with the rest of the list.
@ImagineerNik Monita should be an assist trophy or a stage hazard in a Nintendoland stage as Dark Monita.
No, Waluigi is lame
Good list, some I'd really like such as Waluigi, K Rool and a ARMS representative but here are 4 Characters I'd like to see that were not on the list:
1)Chibi Robo: Give the little guy a chance, make him Olimar Sized could have a fun moveset hitting people with a toothbrush and using the power cord as a whip.
2)Crash Bandicoot: Crash Trilogy is on its way to Switch and remember that old sony commercial where crash was calling out Mario outside Nintendo HQ... we have sonic lets get the other big 90s platform mascot in on the action!
3)Issac (Golden Sun): His Magical abilities could make for a fun moveset plus it gives representation to another older franchise, sometimes a being a fighter in smash can be what a series need to boost its popularity like what happened for Fire emblem
4)Takamaru: He was considered for the last game but apparently due to lack of popularity in the west was left out , that didn't stop Marth back in the SSBM days so why should it stop Takamaru?
Honorable mention: Bring back the Ice climbers since they were only left out as the 3ds couldn't handle them, but I'm sure the switch can!
Not a fan of smash Bros, I own all the versions as I'm a Nintendo fan, but it's the most overrated franchise of all time.
Spring Man makes the most sense being the unofficial mascot of Arms but Helix... oh man Helix is just hilarious to me and I would love for him to be in. Indies making an appearance is a strong possibility but I hope they don't go over board with to many. I think assists/stages could be a better of including indie games.
As always, I'd trade most of the roster, particularly the generic emblematic fiery guys, to have Snake back.
Also need to see Mayor Pauline make an appearance in some capacity especially if New Donk City makes it's almost inevitable appearance.
@nwebster11
> Smash is the most overrated franchise of all time.
> CoD.
Yeaaaaaaah, no, sorry.
Alex,
Have you been drinking prior to making this vid?
The only good thing about smash is the character roster as a Nintendo fan, but the gameplay sucks ass
@nwebster11 Why do you feel the need to comment this on a post specifically catering to smash bros fans?
Bomberman and Travis Touchdown need to be in the next Smash.
Disappointed with the absence of Paper Mario on that list! DEAD DR. MARIO, WE WANT PAPER MARIO!! 🤬🤬
@N64SNESU I'm sure we all understand not every game is everyone.
@Ensemen @N64SNESU the better question is who buys the first game of a franchise, decides it sucks, then continues buying every iteration of that game and acts disappointed because it's similar to the first game that they hated.
Normally I don't buy into a franchise to "show my support to the developers" then take to the internet to complain about it. You chose this.
Nintendo has a few dozen franchises, just buy the ones you enjoy and have a happier life. Also, Nintendo is not so desperate they will fail if you don't get a single copy of one of their most popular franchises. They'll be fine, stop believing the idiots on the internet that keep saying Nintendo is one bad week away from going 3rd party.
The wrestlers from NES Pro Wrestling please
Dampierre from Soul Calibur is Waluigi.
@Paraka well played
Dudes, it's almost certainly going to be an enhanced port, much like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on Switch was.
I'd be happy to see characters like:
Waluigi
Captain N
Captain Rainbow
King K. Rool
Shovel Knight
Bomberman
Banjo-Kazooie
Simon Belmont
Axel (Streets of Rage 2)
Raphael (TMNT)
Scrooge McDuck
He-Man
Bart Simpson
Lion-o
Peter Venkman (from The Real Ghostbusters)
Cuphead
Appreciate the list. Don't do videos. Ta
Pretty good list, though I'd swap Dark Samus for Sylux, since he'd less likely be a clone, more so than Dark Samus would and I'm pretty sure Nintendo is continuing the Metroid Prime story with Sylux as the antagonist in MP4. Swap Helix for Star Fox's Krystal, you don't need 2 ARMS reps and Krystal wouldn't (or at least shouldn't) be another Fox clone. Also Rex and/or Pyra from XC2. Then I'd be looking for someone more obscure or from a dormant Nintendo IP, similar to what they did with Marth and Roy in Melee, Pit in Brawl and what they should have done with Takamaru (but settled with an assist trophy) in 4, maybe Isaac from Golden Sun, or Mike from Star Tropics, someone they can shed light on and hopefully revive their game series.
I would take Crash Bandicoot, Bomberman and Spring Man over Waluigi, Helix and Labo Man any day.
I really don’t like potential move set as an argument for a character get into smash. Don’t get me wrong, I personally would love more characters to make it in with different moveset but it’s shown time and time and again that Sakurai doesn’t care about it. For example.
Toon Link could’ve used different items over regular Link like Bombchus, deku leaf and deku nuts
Lucas could’ve had different PK moves and not just different properties
Captain Ganon could actually use moves in Zelda
Lucina didn’t have to be a carbon copy of Marth with different hitbox damage
Dr Mario is a Mario clone without Fludd
Dark Pit who is Sakurai’s baby got the clone
Now let’s look at the new comers of Smash 4
Little Max has a counter
Greninja has a Counter
Bayonetta has a Counter
Corrin has a Counter
Shulk has a Counter
Lucina has a Counter
Dark Pit has a Counter (for projectiles)
Miis has a Counter
Ryu has a Counter/superarmor thing
Villager has a counter
Rosalina has a Counter/Black hole thing
Palutena has 2 counters
Dark Pit has a Counter
Dr Mario has a counter
Megaman almost have a Counter thing in the form of leaf shield
That’s a lot of new characters with a block/Counter move.
This is why I don’t like the “potential moveset” argument, clearly Sakurai doesn’t care about it.
My wish list for Smash Bros Switch is:
Shadow the Hedgehog (I mean, he's been a Assist Trophy in Brawl and Wii U/3DS, it's time for him to be a actual Smasher)
Rex and Pyra from Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (With one of Rex's regular or Final Smash be the ability to switch between Pyra and Mythria only Myrthia is more powerful and can deal some massive damage which sadly may require a nerf.)
Lloyd Irving or Soray from the Tales series. I want a Tales representative in this game. But I'll welcome anyone in Smash Bros.
Alm and Ceclia from Fire Emblem Echos.
And finally, Fiora from Xenoblade Chronicles 1 or Elma from Xenoblade Chronicles X.
I also wish Marth has an English VA now. Since he has an English Voice Actor in Fire Emblem Warriors.
How about Jet Set Willy?
Shantae and at least one ARMS character would be great additions.
If Tetra is included, she should be a fantastic fighter with a special move where she remembers her identity and then hides under the stage while Toon Link swaps out and does all of the fighting for her.
My choice for an ARMS character would be Dr Coyle seeing as she's the director of the ARMS Laboratories, and her moveset could be interesting what with her levitation, invisibility and explosive grab. Helix would be cool too though.
Nice list, but I actually DON'T want Banjo Kazooie. Because it only leads to tears when the next Banjo Kazooie doesn't come to Switch. Having Banjo Kazooie in Smash would just be Microsoft promotion and nothing else.
give us bren mcguire
Sidon for smash please. He can shout super encouraging things at me to make me feel warm and fuzzy 😅
I'd love to see Quote from cave story. Bomberman Rayman and crash bandicoot would be cool but i wouldn't be upset without any of them.
Urbosa please and a Rito/zora kid because they are adorable.
I main springman, so springman please.
Annnnd this list won't happen.
I realize I probably won't get it, but all I really hope for is Shulk. Not only my favorite character from the last Shash, but also Xenoblade Chronicles is my all time favorite game
NON SPECIFIC ACTION FIGURE
definatly ARMS characters
Shovel Knight
Kaptain K. Rool (much better moves than king)
Chibi Robo
Rayman
Rabbid Mario!!!
As long as Mega Man returns I couldn't care who else gets in.
Pauline please.
Squid kids would be cool, any of the champions from BotW or Chase McCain from LEGO City. Feel like Nintendo & LEGO stay pretty close so it would be cool to see a LEGO character in Smash.
I just bought Arms and I've fallen in love with Ribbon Girl. If she isn't on Smash I'll riot
Smash definitely needs another character from the Mega Man universe. Proto-man has a decent chance, but I'd prefer Dr. Wily.
Rabbid Peach. That’s all.
My top 10 in no specific order:
1.) Spring Man
I chose Spring Man because he's arguably the face of ARMS, and because they're likely to only pick one ARMS character and he's it. He's basic, he's stylish, he's easy to use, he just makes sense. His different moves could be swapping out his ARMS, and a palette swap could easily be Springtron. This one just makes sense.
2.) Labo Man
Although I personally prefer to call him Joy-Con Boy, Labo Man has already won me over as an idea for Smash. Labo seems to be very important to Ninty, so what better way to promote it than with Labo in Smash? (And a DIY amiibo to boot!)
3.) Waluigi
Were you expecting an explanation?
Too bad. Waluigi time.
4.) Chibi-Robo
Chibi-Robo wouldn't have really made sense until Zip-Lash came along, which really opened up his combat potential. Now that Chibi can swing around that butt cord of his, his moveset has a lot of potential.
5.) Shovel Knight
Do I need to explain this one? It's Shovel Knight. He's great and has lots of weapons, and he has an amiibo. Put him in Smash.
6.) Paper Mario
Paper Mario would NOT be a Mario clone. Not at all. With his wide variety of abilities, friends, and weapons amassed over five games (six if you count M&L: Paper Jam), Paper Mario would fit right in as his own special character.
7.) FILS-A-MECH & Non-Specific Action Figure
"Why are FILS-A-MECH and NSAF good choices?"
They're not. But it'd be interesting for Nintendo to acknowledge their weird past with E3. If Wii Fit Trainer can make it to Smash and the Satellaview can be in Mario Odyssey, anything is possible.
This would work out like Duck Hunt, with NSAF riding FILS-A-MECH. I'll leave the rest up to you.
8.) Wolf Link & Midna
Smash needs more quadrupeds. Ivysaur was very interesting, and Duck Hunt was one of my favorite characters. So why not Wolf Link, with Midna riding him? Twilight Princess HD is still relatively new, and hair-based combos would be awesome to see, so these two make sense to me.
9.) Nate
Y'know, Nate from Yo-Kai Watch?
When I was younger, I made an entire moveset for him, complete with taunts, alternate specials, idle poses, and palette swaps. It was great and good fun. I'd love to see Nate and his Yo-Kai friends in Smash, no matter how improbable it is.
10.) Rabbid Luigi
Actually, let's go with a Bowser Jr.-type deal where I can be any of the Mario Rabbids with the same moves. They have a wide variety of weapons at their disposal, and Nintendo's trying to increase 3rd party support, so this makes sense.
i'm done
#Brad4Smash
Bad Mr. Frosty from Clayfighters !
@BensonUii I second Master Mummy, he'd be a great addition. I like my big guys in fighting games, Bowser was my main in Smash 4 and Master Mummy was my go to guy in ARMS.
@Alantor28 I'm pretty sure the dude who voices Marth in English in Warriors is the voice of teenage Ben 10, and that weirds me out so I'll stick to the Japanese one. 😂
@BarFooToo Final Smash: He summons his daughter from Mississippi
@impurekind
>Almost certainly
>Based on absolutely nothing.
.__.
Can we all stop making assumptions and just wait for the actual answer to land in our laps?
@N64SNESU I used to think the same, I hated Smash Bros Brawl on Wii.I gave Smash 4 a chance and initially thought the same but then I tried 1v1 For Glory online and I love it. I can't stand all the nonsense with items turned on, gets far too chaotic. Single stage, no items, 1v1 and then Smash is at its best.
What with Smash Brothers being a showcase of Nintendo characters, I reeeeeaally don't get why people are also so incredibly demanding that whatever random 3rd party characters they like are included every time a new game in the series comes out. Specifically, Goku is the dumbest idea ever. Anyway.... I thought this was a pretty good list, but I especially agree that Metroid needs more love, and Dark Samus does seem like a good fit in that regard.
So many Smash lists are garbage nowadays, tbh. Some more than others. Smash already has a ton of characters to pick from and adding any more is more often than not scraping the bottom of the barrel. Mostly in third-party choices though, some people want Soltaire and that dude from Skyrim while others unironically want Goku. And while I don't doubt there will be a new third-party representative, it's such a wild card and tends to favor the old franchises with massive staying power. Even Snake and Cloud, being so out of place in terms of Smash, are the faces of their respective franchises that are very long lasting, and Bayonetta is pretty much a Nintendo character nowadays too. So while I can see the argument for characters like Doomguy who had a game that really defined FPS games while having a great comeback in 2016, I don't see the same deal for other choices like that Skyrim dude.
With that said, there are some decent Nintendo choices to pick from.
Issac from Golden Sun can make the jump from Assist Trophy from Brawl to new character in Smash Switch.
Initially I thought Rex + Pyra/Mythra from Xenoblade 2 together like Rosalina and Luma would be awesome (and I still do. Still my top pick), but I'd also like to entertain the idea of Pyra/Mythra alone, like how Robin became the pick over Chrom despite Pair Up being such an integral part of Awakening.
ARMS candidate is likely as well.
As much as I hate to admit it, some sort of Labo representation actually has a chance because it would fit that joke character we've had since Melee.
Chibi-Robo can also work, I suppose. Not sure how since I've never played the games, but perhaps.
If they want to pull a Pit from Brawl or Duck Hunt from Smash 4, they can bring back Mike from StarTropics as that "old character no one remembers".
There's not much else I can think of, to be honest. Not enough to fill a top 10, but I don't think you need to. I'm personally very conservative with what I expect and want.
After Bowser Jr and the Koopalings, I'd see no reason not to have a broad swath of Arms characters as pallette swapped versions of the same fighter. It would be even more interesting if each one had tweaked Attack/Defense/Speed stats, similar to the way amiibos were handled in the last one.
And on the topic of pallette swaps, they could really load down the pre-existing Marth and Ike templates with a whole bunch of Fire Emblem characters, as to not take up most of the character select screen.
Edit:
P.S. Give me a pallette swapped R.O.B. that looks and sounds like Nav-Com from Star Tropics.
These needs to be in Smash 5 too:
Takamaru (The Mysterious Marasame Castle) - he could replace any one of the FE character.
Jill (Drill Dozer) - A new challenger.
Isaac (Golden Sun) - he needs to advance from assist trophy to playable character.
Mike Jones (Star Tropics) - a retro representative would be nice.
Ridley (Metroid) - Metroid needs a new villain character and Ridley would be perfect for this way better than a Samus clone.
Will (Advance Wars) - Either include him or any one from Black Hole Rising.
Krystal (Star Fox, Dinosaur Planet) - She needs to be in to represent the GameCube era of Nintendo.
Saki Amamiya (Sin and Punishment) - Treasure characters needs a chance for this game.
Midna (Twilight Princess) - Zelda is cool and all but we need a more interesting princess like Midna
Black Shadow (F-Zero) - F-Zero needs more rep and a villain like BS is perfect for that.
Tatanga (Super Mario Land) - Another forgotten Mario villain.
Agahnim (A Link to the Past) - Yes more Zelda villain is welcome.
Hilda (A Link Between World) - She could be interesting to play in this.
Vaati (Four Swords, Minish Cap) - A playable Vaati would be awesome, his final form could be his final smash.
Girahim (Skyward Sword) - A cool Zelda villain, Smash could totally put Link into multiple challenge with these numerous villains.
Andross (Star Fox) - Star Fox also needs a villain rep in Smash as well.
Elma (Xenoblade Chronicles X) - More female rep like her is welcome.
Funky Kong (Donkey Kong Country) - Include him with his first DKC song and this would be awesome.
Bomberman - He's in almost every Nintendo console, why isn't he in Smash yet.
Rayman - Nintendo and Ubisoft are friends now so Rayman needs a chance to smash.
Crash Bandicoot - He no longer represent PlayStation so he could come for Smash any time.
Spyro the Dragon - Same for him too.
Amaterasu (Okami) - Would be interesting to see him in this.
Simon Belmont (Castlevania) - The main face of the series during the time of the Golden Age of gaming in the 16-Bit era needs to be in Smash 5.
Don't know who will end in the new Smash but I think that an ARMS character and Rex/Pyra are a given.
Marina from Mischief Makers. I know no one would care about that, but I'd be ecstatic.
Simon Belmont and Bomberman
Goku
Fawful.
King K. Rool would also be good, need more heavies and/or villians.
Hope for Shovel knight, Isaac and Hyper light drifter. I know the last one is already in an another game but I want him in Smash.
Why is no one asking for Weird Mario?
...You know... From Mario Maker?
I think the witch ladies from Kirby Switch game would be an awesome fit.
I would love Min-min but I Ribbon girl and Spring man would be the main ones.
I would love to see the bunny arcade from the 3ds game, and Karate Joe from Rhythm Heaven (to promote a new rhythm Heaven game on the Switch)
Witch ladies
Min-Min
Karate Joe
Arcade Bunny
Ever Oasis character
Rabbids
Waluigi, Paper Mario, Midna & Wolf Link, Impa, Skull Link, K. Rool, Isabelle, Ridley, Captain Toad (or just Toad), and either Bandana Dee or Marx are my top 10 most wanted newcomers, but not in that order.
I also want Masked Link but the chances of that happening are virtually 0.
I think Dark Samus could be cool, but I’d also like a Metroid character not ending in “Samus,” but I don’t know who (not Ridley). Also, I would rather have an ARMS character in there that’s not Helix (or Spring Man for that matter), maybe Min Min because of her kicks or Misango for his Monado-type ability
I'd love more Metroid representation, kinda feel like if they put Dark Samus in then they'd basically make her a clone... I feel like the federation force mechs would maybe have more potential, or maybe they could throw in a character relevant to prime 4? Sylux maybe? Or someone entirely new???
I agree with Shantae and Shovel Knight.
Professor E. Gadd and Nintendo Power (a fighting magazine) are on the top of my wishlist.
@MegaVel91 Based on prior examples with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Zelda being a Wii U port, Splattoon 2 being more like an expanded DLC than a truly brand new game that's an obvious advancement from the previous one, the way the trailer was done for Smash Bros. Switch, and just about everything else that makes sense in terms of how long it took to put together the other Smash Bros. games and whatever else.
The odds of this being a whole new Smash Bros. game are very low from everything I've seen in those regards above.
But, kudos to all the optimists if it does end up being an entirely new entry in the series--and I don't mean basically the same game as the Wii U version but with a few minor additions and a title that allows the fanboys to argue it's a whole new sequel.
No Dark Samus
Sylux instead (especially if he's the antagonist in Prime 4) and ofc Travis Touchdown, I only ask for that
Professor Layton! Or Mallo from Pushmo.
There's a lack of Kass on this list
@-DG Weird Mario would make for an interesting clone character, maybe a replacement for Dr. Mario or Luigi (who could have a revamped, original moveset).
I think that the only problem is that he's exclusively in the SMB style. ...eh, if Mr. Game & Watch can work, so can Weird Mario. Maybe an 8-Bit Mario with a Weird Mario transformation/Final Smash is in order?
Wait, why not have the assist trophies become playable characters?
@impurekind Splatoon 2 has new weapons, new subweapons, new specials, new gear, a new hub, new maps, a new ranked mode, a new mode, a new campaign, improved graphics, etc.
You know, just like every other sequel. How exactly is that not a new game?
The trailer was a teaser trailer. Surely a port would've gone straight into gameplay since we've already seen it before. Nothing about that trailer suggests a port.
Oh boy, the dev time argument. Smash 4 entered full development in 2012 and released in 2014, giving it a dev time of about 2 years. That was on two platforms, by the way.
We know Sakurai started on his next project shortly after Smash 4 DLC wrapped up in early 2016, which would make Smash Switch's dev time.... about 2 years. Plenty of time for a new game, especially since there's already HD assets ready to use.
Smash Switch is a new game. Period. And no, reusing assets does not make it a port.
@MH4 How about a weird mushroom power up? Oddly proportioned 8-bit versions of everyone!
Have all of you forgotten Son Goku? FUNanimation even tweeted asking for him on Smash!
Nintendo has the best library out there. I want Nintendo to use the best they have to offer first before we see other companies join.
we can also expect some bandai-namco characters because they are involved.
but please Nintendo add the Champions from breath of the wild. I want the characters to have some new moves. And most important i want a awesome story mode with the bandai namco cutscene magic.
Also i want Isaac from golden sun.
As for megaman, let him stay! He fits right there, as does sonic. For the next third party legend i want simon belmont from castlevania!
Also add shovel knight just to say thank you to indie developers and shovel knight has many fans.
Can't wait to see more from smash!
My list:
1. Spring Man/Ribbon Girl
2. Hades
3. King K Rool
4. Decidueye, Zeraora, or some Gen 8 Pokemon
5. Isaac
6. Shantae
7. Rex
8. Chibi Robo
9. Crash Bandicoot
10. Bomberman
Honorable mentions:
-Shovel Knight
-Banjo Kazooie
-Waluigi
-Simon Belmont
@MH4 Weird Mario would have an entirely unique moveset based on the strangest items in Super Mario Maker. His final Smash could summon three giant 8-bit Bowsers, lol.
@-DG @Euler Both awesome ideas!! 😊
Smash might be one of the many reasons I don't like the Nintendo community.
I'm not expecting Smash Switch to have many characters not in Smash Wii U/3DS whether it's an enhanced port or a new game, 5-10 including the already confirmed Inklings sound about right.
My list
1st/2nd Party:
1. Ribbon Girl/Springman (pallet swap)
2. Waluigi
3. Birdo
4. Rex
5. Ice Climbers
6. Pokemon Trainer (with new pokemon)
3rd/Indie Party
1. Crash
2. Shovel Knight
3. Bomberman
4. Dr Eggman
5. Earthworm Jim
Updates:
Mario to Mario from SMO
Dr Mario replaced by Paper Mario
Ganondorf updated to like Breath of the Wild
Swap out some of the pokemon
@Yasaal Shantae has an even higher chance then those since Shantae is older, all games on Nintendo consoles as well.
@Saego Why cause you can't stand people sharing wishlist for the game?
I'll keep asking Sakurai for Riddley until he or I die, I don't care about the size excuse. And even if I die, I'll also prepare my sons to carry on the fight, to whoever gets in charge after Sakurai or if Sakurai zombie is created.
@impurekind Based on examples from a game that was widely known as a Wii U game for most of it's development cycle before being moved over to the Switch, a game that was revealed without any uncertainty to be a port and showed gameplay from the first trailer, and a game that is a sequel in every sense of the word.
These are the examples you're using to argue that a game with nothing shown at its reveal other than a cinematic trailer is a enhanced port?
Huh?
Just give me Crono!
@retro_player_22 No, that's not it. I like people hyping for a game. But be realistic about it. People demand a lot and get dissapointed and mean when someone has another opinion or their wanted character doesn't get into the game.
If HAL Laboratory is really making this game, I wouldn't be surprised if Bandana Waddle Dee or Qbby ended up in it. I'd say Taranza is also highly possible given that Shinya Kumazaki is in love with Triple Deluxe and never stops referencing it, but I think he's less likely considering how Sakurai prefers referencing only the Kirby characters he's made.
Dark Samus. Defo, Dark Samus. The list may as well be complete after her addition.
(the text list is GREATLY appreciated)
Ashley from WarioWare is at the top of my list! It makes perfect sense. She could summon carnivorous plants and cast status-effect spells (which sometimes backfire like Mr. Game & Watch's Judgement), and maybe she could even turn her opponents into spoons. Ashley is apparently quite popular in Japan, and she's already a Mystery Mushroom costume in Mario Maker. Since there's a new WarioWare game on the way later this year, it's only logical that one of Wario's friends would make it into Smash to help with the marketing.
Also, no Waluigi and no Daisy. They're pointless filler characters. They could serve as representatives of the Mario spinoffs, but this raises the question as to why Mario Tennis Ultra Smash and Mario Party 9 need representatives in the first place. There are already three Mario Kart stages (we can be pretty sure at least one of them will be in the next Smash Bros. game, plus maybe a new one). Not to mention countless items as well as Bowser Jr's attacks. If we don't draw the line here, it won't be long before they'll be bringing in Baby Pink Gold Cat Peach. They're fine as items/Assist Trophies, nothing more.
Daisy
Impa
or someone else from F - Zero
Cuphead, needs Cuphead.....
Fiora, Twintelle, Celica, and Dixie Kong.
I'm not trying to make a political statement or anything, Nintendo is just coming out with a lot of great female characters lately.
I thought MinMin would be more interesting for aerial close-range attacks than Ribbon Girl.
No more non Ninty characters!!! And no more clones!!! All brand new or old Ninty only fighters there's plenty to choose from
There are many Nintendo(1st party) characters to add in. The Ice Climbers, and Duck Hunt can both be Nintendo's 8-bit era character representation. IC were only removed, due to tech limits. Sakurai wanted both systems(3DS/WU) to share their roster 100%. Daisy, and Waluigi would be nice add-ins. Metroid does need another rep, though. KKR would be nice, too, for the DK fans.
Simon Belmont, or Snake would be good 3rd party characters, but what has Konami recently had to do with Nintendo? I just want Mega Man, Sonic, & Pac-Man to stay. Ryu is Capcom's second representative character. Bayonetta, if she's (still) in, assuming this is a port, or even if it's not, is Sega's second representative character.
Shantae would be a very likely Indie representation, since her series began on Nintendo hardware, & to my knowledge, at least 3 of the 4 titles were first released on Nintendo hardware. Plus, as I just mentioned, the series has more than just a single game. I can't really think of another Indie character with more than 2 games, or even more than 1, & has a history with Nintendo.
Paper Mario! Please and Thank you
Crash Bandicoot
Spyro the Dragon (?)
Koopa Troopa!
Spring Man and Ribbon Girl are pretty close to the lamest characters in the game. Please don't feel like you have to use them, Nintendo.
@Saego You should check out the Injustice and Tekken 7, wishlist for guest characters run rampant all over.
The only other Indie character I can think of, that has a history with Nintendo, and more than 2 games, would be Commander Video. I forgot to mention that, after talking about Shatae.
No Golden Sun love? It needs more love and attention brought to it, granted I need pick to lost age for the WiiU.
@retro_player_22 Yeah, it's probably a problem with most fighting games. But Smash difference itself by being the only game where all Nintendo (and other gaming developers) characters come together. It gives almost unlimited possibilities for the new fighters: realistic and unrealistic.
I think Banjo and Kazooie would play too similarly to Duck Hunt.
Bring back Ivysaur and the Ice Climbers!
It’s pretty much a lost cause but I’ll continue to vote for Geno. SMRPG deserves a true sequel.
@BulbasaurusRex so? Not like clone characters have stopped them before!
@Aerona you know if anyone gets in it’s them though. I mean, they’re my last choices too but I’m not gonna kid myself and think any ARMS characters have more of a shot than them, only way we’ll get anyone else is if we get at least 3 ARMS characters...
Mechanica is my fav but her odds of appearing are next to nil. But not next to Nils from Fire Emblem (the one with Lynn), he’s a FE character so he has a bigger shot (though doesn’t use a sword so maybe not).
@ShadJV It's still better to choose characters that aren't semi-clones when it makes sense to do so. That's why we got Robin instead of Chrom.
@Alantor28 XENOBLADE 1 SPOILERS
I highly doubt you'll ever see Fiora in Smash, not even as an assist trophy, as it wouldn't make to use her fully human form, while her cyborg form is a walking spoiler.
i totally agree with almost all of the entrys on this list
I'm honestly not as keen on third party characters overtaking Smash. Definitely iffy on Shantae and Shovel Knight, indies in general i'm not big on for Smash. Banjo Kazooie would be cool though.
My most wanted are Dixie Kong, which may happen, Saki Amamiya, which probably won't happen, and Wonder Red, which also probably won't happen.
Earthworm Jim
Battletoads
Toadette
Rex & Pyra
Skull Kid & Majora's Mask
Rabbid Peach
Goomba
Solaire
Primarina
Waluigi would be boring. Yeah I said it.
Steam world dig robot
@BulbasaurusRex I mean that’s not necessarily why we got Robin over Chrom, otherwise plenty of choices wouldn’t have happened (clone Wolf instead of Crystal, clone Roy over any non-sword user, heck they gave us Lucina who’s more of a Marth clone than Chrom would be). Sakurai likely picked Robin because Robin is the main character of his game, NOT Chrom, it’s more realistic to think they picked Lucina over Chrom because Lucina is a clone and therefore took less work. Heck, BK would be less of a clone character than most clones, the wireframe would have to be completely different unless Banjo is going to walk around on all fours.
And spoilers to an 8 year old game? Heck, Zelda transforming into Sheik is a spoiler, Corrin turning into a dragon is a spoiler, Lucina is pretty much an entire spoiler (considering if you hadn’t played Awakening and decided to you’d know who the person under the mask is), I doubt they’d care about spoiling a game from two gens ago.
@Sakisa I’m with you, one or two guest third parties (that have been on Nintendo consoles) make sense but Smash 4 got a bit out of hand (yeah Cloud is alright but he has no history with Nintendo, that was quite a stretch). And now people wanna add characters that aren’t even originally from video games (Goku)? I remember when Smash Bros was a celebration of Nintendo’s history, but I guess it’s expected to just become a crossover of all media... until people start asking for Abraham Lincoln and then it just has no walls at all anymore, haha
Professor Layton solves a puzzle!
@impurekind Even though Smash for both Wii U and 3DS took only two years of dev time and development started after the completion of Kid Icarus Uprising?
Even though nothing about the Smash Switch teaser actually confirms that it's a port, due to the lack of footage, lack of returning cast besides those hinted at by mere shapes in the flames?
Despite the fact Nintendo has been upfront about the other games being ports, and that making a new game could have it's dev time reduced by re-using assets?
Also despite the fact Smash Bros for Wii U had an exhibition using a Beta build of the game that was in a playable state?
Also despite the fact Sakurai himself said he's been working on this game for some time in an interview?
You're going to need to do better than point to other ports and making up evidence, man.
Where's Daisy?
lol @ 6:50 😂
Here's what I'd like to see:
Labo dude
Spring Man
Ribbon Girl
Waluigi
Daisy
Chibi Robo
Doom Guy
Bomberman
Crash Bandicoot
Commander Video
Steve (Minecraft)
Rusty or Dorothy from Steamworld Digg
Box Boy
Rusty (from Rusty's Real Deal Baseball)
Jimmy or Ashley (Wario Ware)
Snipperclips characters
Travis Touchdown
Shantae
Terry Bogard (SNK)
Pushmo
Son Goku
Goemon, Travis Touchdown, Soma Cruz, Captain Rainbow, that kid from Totally Rad, the guy with the mohawk who said unfunny stuff in Skate or Die to run the trophy store or minigame/whatever... and most importantly Uniracers as items. And Goku to make all of these SSB fans whine some more.
@ShadJV You have a point about Wolf over Crystal, but there were good reasons for the other two. Roy was the main character of the newest Fire Emblem game when Melee was released (whereas Chrom and Robin were dual protagonists). Lucina wasn't picked over anyone else. She, Dr. Mario, and Dark Pit were bonus clones included at the last minute that were easy to program in a short amount of time as opposed to another original character, otherwise she would've just been an alternate costume for Marth. Furthermore, Sakurai has indeed stated that to be the reason he chose Robin over Chrom.
You'd be surprised how many people can get spoiled even years later, especially considering the fact that the game initially had a low print run in the West and was much more recently rereleased for the 3DS, and even more recently it regained attention after the release of the sequel. Besides, Lucina herself isn't a spoiler unless you know her role in the story. Corrin isn't a spoiler, as it has little impact on the story and was revealed at the beginning of the game (not to mention the pre-release info), whereas we're talking about one of the two biggest plot twists in the entire story of "Xenoblade Chronicles."
I'm not too fond of the list in this article. :s I feel like third party characters are a nice addition, but I would like a greater emphasis on Nintendo characters
I am frankly insulting that Rex is not on the list. His moveset could be really cool SWITCHING between Pyra and Mythra and his ultimate smash thing could be spoiler Xenoblade 2 is one of the absolute best games on Switch but it often feels like this site ignores it.
Of all those, I only agree with K. Rool, Banjo & Kazooie and Shovel Knight. Ribbon Girl too, but only if there's a Spring Man alt.
Multiple ARMS characters like how they did Bowser Jr. would be amazing I think. One character, but the skins of all of them would be something special.
I'd say:
Mega Man
Duck Hunt
Dixie Kong
Shantae
Shovel Knight
Gunvolt
The Battletoads
Paula
Yooka and Laylee
Simon or Trevor Belmont
Any of the Golden Sun crew, but I'd prefer Jenna. She's got some very powerful attacks.
@Piscean64
Why not? They've had Snake and Bayonetta. They're not exactly kid friendly characters, so Conker could be there.
Anyone else find it interesting how Rayman seems to not be on many of these lists even after everyone got so hyped with the fake leaked character slot for him back in 3ds/wii u. 🤔🤔 Honestly the move for Rayman makes a whole lot of sense especially because of the recent Mario + Rabbids game. On another note though, here are my top ten choices... (not in any order and newcomers only)
1. King K Rool
2. Min Min
3. Banjo and Kazooie
4. Rayman
5. Crash
6. Waluigi
7. A Zelda newcomer (hyrule champion, midna, tetra, depends on where they go with link)
8. Sylux or Dark Samus
9. Chibi Robo or Isaac
10. Konami fighter (snake, bomber man or simon Belmont)
Let me guys know what you think
Yeah, Shovel Knight, Banjo, & Shantae are nowhere near "deserving".
"Labo man" isn't even in stores yet, let alone "deserving".
This is more like a wish list. You want these characters, just admit it.
Rex/Pyra are surely gonna be in smash, but can we please get the Zekenator in as well?
Also I need Shulk as a returning character!
Hades, Chibi Robo, Byte & Barq
Shantae and Shovel Knight are cool and all but do we really need indie characters in Smash? There are first party characters who are still not in it. Let's focus on them first. Also, No Pyra & Mythra? Shame.
Chibi Robo,
Ribbon Girl,
Saki (Sin & Punishment),
Qbby/Qbbette (BOXBOY!),
Dillon (Dillon's Rolling Western),
Bomberman,
Simon Belmont,
Paper Mario,
Tethu (Ever Oasis)
Another vote for Doomguy from me.
With an entire DOOM based arena and relevant music.
RIP N' TEAR
It would finally answer the question of who would win: Samus or Doomguy.
@theinstruct0r With how indie-friendly Nintendo has become and Shovel Knight having his own amiibos his inclusion would be pretty welcome all around. Shovel Knight has become sort of a face for indie success and Nintendo cooperation.
@Piscean64
Ah. I see your point.
@sevex can't believe it took 87 comments before someone shouted out for Layton!
There are very few 1st party characters left I would champion but would love to see Phoenix Wright, Travis Touchdown, Solaire, Amaterasu and maybe Niku from TWEWY.
@BulbasaurusRex you neglected Sheik, the only really spoiler that could even exist from OoT... and for reference, that was in Melee only one Gen after that game as opposed to Fiora being two gens old and two games back in the series (I assume you’ll probably argue that X doesn’t count because it’s not shown to be connected in plot). I’m not saying I think Fiora will happen, if they do any new Xenoblade characters it would be from 2, not the original (and Fiora I think would be less likely than Reyn or even Riki) but Sakurai has never seemed to care about spoilers.
And my point still stands that Banjo Kazooie wouldn’t even be a clone character of Duck Hunt, they’d have a few similar moves at most - most of their moveset simple wouldn’t work and even the ones that did would need completely different wire frames.
@BulbasaurusRex and I did see your other points and for the most part don’t disagree, I didn’t know he stated that about Chrom and forgot that about Roy, but I think from cases like Wolf we know he won’t avoid characters solely for them being similar in moveset, especially since BK is getting a push from fans and even Rare to be put in the game (I don’t think Wolf even had that). And while Corrin I’ll accept, I only got like 8 or 9 chapters in and they showed her partially transforming so I never knew she turned full dragon until Smash, but Lucina I’d argue is nearly as high as Fiora, it’s not a spoiler if you don’t know the context, but the first portion of Awakening they try to make you think it’s Marth under the mask and having seen Lucina in Smash removes that plot twist. The only big difference is Xenoblade is so much longer that any spoilers are from many more hours in... and I don’t think it’s a big deal of plot for her, at most she was Shulk’s motivator but didn’t tie much to the overall story and no one would know how or why she comes back, just that she does and is different.
@SmaggTheSmug I'm not denying that, but we do have an Indie Smash game, Brawlout and those characters aren't even in that, so demand and interest or not, to have them in Smash, can feel like something of an insult to Nintendo's own characters.
@theinstruct0r That's a really funny thing to say considering Nintendo characters are fictional and technically cannot be insulted. Also Sonic and Solid Snake.
@N64SNESU how sad that you don't like the games yet buy them because of some non-exsistent obligation
My top 5 picks -
Krystal from Starfox - A staff wielder is sorely needed in the roster.
Chibi-Robo - the little guy deserves another chance to establish himself as a main Nintendo character.
Paper Mario - Ditch Dr. Mario for his paper-based form, much more potential for creative moves utilising his partners from the first two games.
Ridley - As cool as Dark Samus would be, she'd almost certainly just be a clone, Ridley deserves a spot more. His size has come up as a reason why he cannot be included but Bowser is also huge so i don't see how its not achievable.
Waluigi - Just needs to happen ! lol
I'd also like to see Dillon added but he's still quite new, add him as an assist instead.
Come on!!! Magnus needs a spot and Jill for sure.
