Today's Nintendo Direct revealed that Splatoon 2 will be getting a brand new solo campaign called the Splatoon 2 Octo Expansion.

As you can see in the video above, the campaign features a new Octoling star called Agent 8 and seems to have players exploring brand new locations with a very menacing overall tone. The game's new area will feature 80 test facility locations all connected by a subway, hinting that this update could be pretty generous in size.

As well as giving us a look at some fan-favourite characters in a new light, this expansion will also allow players to use Octolings in online multiplayer matches.

This is the first chunk of DLC for Splatoon 2 that will be a paid-for affair, launching this summer for $19.99. The expansion is available to pre-order right now and, if you do want to take the plunge already, you'll receive immediate access to Octo headgear and clothes for your main game.
