Re: Opinion: As Resident Evil Turns 30, It's Time Capcom Revisits The Classics

Hwatt

@SillyG Seriously.

In the past few years we got:

  • RE2 Remake
  • RE3 Remake
  • RE4 Remake
  • RE 1 (GoG)
  • RE 2 (GoG)
  • RE 3 (GoG)

I really think they have a good balance of new and old. I personally enjoy the cadence and now that I have almost finished Requiem, I will certainly go back to an older game. It could be RE2 Remake or RE Village but I will definitely keep RE in my rotation. As I’ve done since the pandemic when I rediscovered the series with RE Biohazard (7).

Re: Fallout 4 Gets DLSS Support On Switch 2 Today, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

Hwatt

@Max_the_German For sure someone authorized the GO and given how significant DLSS improves IQ and performance, especially on this device, it would be weird if it was an afterthought.

I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt, and assume something higher priority came up between gold and release.

If the game was on a cart, I guess I could understand some frustration but this game is “adorably all-digital” on SW2

Re: Poll: Who's Your Favourite Resident Evil Playable Character?

Hwatt

Let alone that all the games with Leon are fantastic, well maybe not 6, he’s one of the few characters to get a good story arc. He’s got my vote and it’s not because of 9.

If we include Mercenaries mode, I always enjoyed Hunk and Wesker.

Shoutout to Ethan Winters. He may be a nothing burger but his lines are priceless and he has two very different play styles if we compare 7 and 8.

Re: Feature: Where The Heck Do You Start If You've Never Played Resident Evil?

Hwatt

Resident Evil 4.

I think it has a simple enough plot to not overwhelm new players and it does so many things right, it's hard to ignore it as an excellent entry point. It was my entry point into the series and I think it was for so many others. Either 4 original or 4 Remake would work but since 4 Remake is not on Nintendo consoles, original 4 is my vote.

If you want to dive deep into the lore and really start from the beginning, Resident Evil Remake (2002) would be the obvious choice. I just don't think the tank controls are enticing enough in 2026 for new players to really sell them on the series.

Resident Evil 2 Remake is another excellent contender. Blending original RE horror AND modern controls, sadly, it's not on Nintendo consoles. Cloud versions don't count...

Re: Investor Who Urged Nintendo To Monetise Mario's Jumps Acquires Shares In Kadokawa

Hwatt

@Metalinkster

Agreed but games also need sponsors. As games during development pass milestones, budgets are usually unlocked by the publisher / investors.

If developers want salaries during production, it’s important for those running the business to keep generating cash flow to keep it afloat until they can sell the game.

Of course some independent developers like Team Cherry may have enough bank roll after their first release to avoid this process all together but they’re more of an outlier. AAA, games under small publishers like Devolver or Raw Fury… it’s all the same. They need cash to keep talent paid. This is all before we get into discussions of profit and dividends.

Re: Monopoly: Star Wars Heroes Vs. Villains Brings A Galactic Showdown To Switch 1 & 2 This June

Hwatt

Wait… wait just one tiny second. This is just an announcement of an announcement? A pre-announcement? The full reveal will come April 29th? For a star wars monopoly game? A board game that existed for nearly 100 years?

Ok glad we got that out of the way… carry on.

I didn’t finish Outlaws but I really enjoyed the card game within it, Sebaac. Honestly, buying Outlaws on a pretty good discount, like 66% or more is worth it just for that mini game.

Re: Capcom's New Game Pragmata Is Now Releasing A Little Earlier Than Expected

Hwatt

@ToniK

They’ve been on a good streak since RE2 Remake. Nearly every year for the past 6-7 years they’ve put out at least one great game.

Resident Evils, Street Fighter VI, Monster Hunters pave the way for us to get these new IPs that are so rare right now. I don’t think we would see games like Kunitsu-gami and Pragmata without them being consistent with their big franchises.

Even old IPs have been slowly returning. Dragons Dogma, Onimusha, Okami just to name a few.

I remain hopeful Viewtiful Joe will return.

Re: Nintendo Showcases Every Switch 1 & 2 Indie World Game In A New Infographic

Hwatt

I haven't watched the presentation (with full attention) but it seemed good. Knowing that Blighted is by Drinkbox Studios (Guacamelee) and is similar to Hades has my attention. Most games I may not play but the star of the show was the announcement and RELEASE of Blue Prince.

If you see my post history, you'll note that I've been asking for this for a little while.

I absolutely love this game and I am so happy I didn't finish it. Now I'll start over on Switch

Re: Reminder: Resident Evil's Generation Pack Is Leaving The Switch 2 eShop This Month

Hwatt

Once I saw the Generations physical was just the cardboard sleeve, I decided to skip and I went for the Steelcase edition of Requiem.

It [Generations] is still a very good deal, physical or digital. Especially if you don’t own or have played all 3 games. Just remember RE games go on sale all the time. As others mentioned, 7 and 8 should drop a few times this year.

Requiem may take a bit longer to drop. It also looks like CAPCOMs most expensive game and could be their best selling game at this rate. With over 5 mil sold! Games that sell this well tend to arrive at good deals much slower.

I may want to double dip on 7 and 8 in the future, with 8 being more appealing since in my eyes it’s very replay-able. However, I am in no rush.

Re: Blue Prince's Excellent Mansion Mystery Arrives On Switch 2 Today

Hwatt

So, I did my first run.

I think (docked) its native 1080p at 30fps.

1. UI seems to indicate 1080p
2. I believe given how crisp but jagged the environments are I also believe it’s a 1080p rendering resolution.
3. There is no anti-aliasing or upscaling.
4. It runs really smoothly. I believe locked 30.

Note: I had one glitch. After I saved my first day, I started a new, separate game save. I skipped the intro and as I was viewing the mandatory cinematic (camera panning into the mansion) the day switched from 1 to 2 and the cinematic started again. I rebooted and my original save file was still there. Odd but I don’t think it’s concern.

Update: I’ve swapped to handheld and it’s REALLY sharp. It may be 1080p for handheld too. Too difficult to say but it’s holding up really well.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Resident Evil Requiem?

Hwatt

@CammyUnofficial

I agree with this feedback and maybe an alternative solution since this article is already live is to do a follow up in two to three weeks to see how the scores shake out.

I’m personally at a 9/10 for Requiem right now but I don’t know if that will hold after I beat it and settle in my thoughts.

Biohazard (7) and Village (8) I have beaten years ago and my sentiments haven’t changed. Biohazard is a 9/10, but the replayability is low. I didn’t enjoy booting up a new play through compared to other games. Pacing is a bit too slow at the beginning.

I believe Village is an 8. I don’t like how quickly you swap areas but I enjoy how it’s a good mix of RE7 and RE4, and I love the mercenaries mode.

Requiem could drop to an 8 depending on the replayability. If a Merc mode comes out and/or some other DLC, I would consider increasing my rating. Too early to tell as you mentioned.

Re: Video: Resident Evil Requiem Side-By-Side Comparison (Switch 2 & PS5 Pro)

Hwatt

I have been playing Requiem on PC. Maxed settings, Ray Tracing, 4K quality upscaling, nearing average 100fps.

I’m about 4 hours in and I’ll say the game is very beautiful but what is more impressive is their optimizations. When you’re playing in 1st person, and you stop near a wall or object, you can see most of the assets have lower quality textures and lower poly counts.

It’s not a criticism, it just shows that the developers really took their time to make this game look great and run even better. Since most of the time, the game looks absolutely brilliant.

I know in DFs video, they highlight some really interesting finds with key / star assets, like Leon and his jacket but most assets, lets say green herbs, tools, or misc items in the environment, the models arent that highly detailed compared to past RE games.

I really think the devs got their priorities straight but I’ve been playing RE4 Remake on PC and I’d say most items in your inventory are more detailed than ones in Requiem.

Does it matter? No. Do I think Requiem is objectively the best looking RE game? Honestly, too early to tell but it’s clearly has some of the highest visual quality to performance ratios I have ever seen in a video game. Full stop. Games that look this good rarely run this well.

The lighting is absolutely stunning, and it seems like (IMO) this is the first RE game where Ray Tracing is a must. Past games felt more like an afterthought.

Anyway, I got my Switch 2 edition arriving next week and I am very excited to play it on a handheld. RE fans are eating real good!

Re: Pokémon Winds & Waves Announced For Switch 2, Launching Next Year

Hwatt

Not a Pokemon player but I really like those starters. All of them have potential to evolve into really impressive forms.

My imagination

Fire Puppy -> Doggo - Wolf / Large Arcanine type Doggo
Grass chick / baby owl -> Owl -> Hawk / Large Owl with huge talons
Water gecko - Dark Souls type basilisk gecko -> Croc / large gecko with tons of scales, armour

Re: Digital Foundry Delivers Its Tech Analysis Of Resident Evil Requiem On Switch 2 - "Capcom Deserves Kudos For This Port"

Hwatt

I saw this mentioned in the review thread and I decided to double dip. Normally I wouldn’t but RE is one of my favourite franchises and it’s rare to see it come to a Nintendo console in FULL FORCE!

Switch 1 never got this treatment. They were cloud versions after the fact and ports of older games. We never got 7, 2 Remake, 3 Remake, 8, or 4 Remake.

This is a current gen game launching day and date with consoles and PC, it’s using modern day features, and is throwing punches with the Series S and PS5, 100w+ consoles. It’s hitting above 30fps and has a 88 on Metacritic (90 for SW2). I get the criticisms for low resolution / unstable frame rates and key cards but at the end of the day, it’s a great game and will play wonderfully on a handheld that draws, what, 10 to 30 watts?

PC version pre-loaded; Collectors edition (Switch 2) pre-ordered just a few hours ago.

Locked and loaded.

Re: Poll: What's Your Favourite 3DS Model?

Hwatt

I only owned one version. A launch cosmo black 3DS. Call me an 3DS ambassador…

I’m sure I’d like the New 3DS more for the improved 3D screen but I really like the traditional DS / 3DS form factor and size.

It’s a shame that I didn’t stick with the 3DS for long. I only have a few games, including Pilot Wings, Zelda OoT, Smash, and Mario Kart 7. I believe I have some VC games and all the ambassador games but the console never fully resonated with me. I still prefer the original DS to this day.

I still have my 3DS and I’ve borrowed a few games, like A Link Between Worlds, but I haven’t touched it in ~10 years!
