Fallout TV show is still on peoples mind. I think they should have released this a month earlier to maximize the fandom. Either way, I think the pressure is on for the devs to make it as polished as possible while it’s in the zeitgeist.
Just adding to the discussion, the only issue I have with 8 is that when it’s just starting to get good, it changes the environment. It’s a very fun game, and I’d personally rank it 8/10, but I do wish they cut out one area to provide more focus on the castle.
It’s easily the best environment but it ends too quickly IMO.
I like the description someone outlined above, it’s more like a ride at a Universal theme park. It’s fast paced and you get your fair share of mythological horror. Werewolves, vampires, creatures etc.
So while it’s a shame I can’t enjoy the castle more, at least the pacing is fast so if you don’t enjoy one area, there is probably another area you will enjoy.
What I like most about the game is the lore. It’s surprisingly deep. The Rose storyline and DLC opens up a lot of possibilities in future games and there’s a lot of backstory connecting to the original games.
Both 7 and 8 work really well together, and I encourage anyone who enjoys the lore to play 7 before 8.
I don’t believe 8 will be necessary before 9 but I have faith there will be some small connections…
60 fps? Wow, I'll still wait for the DF video but I'll happily double dip if it technical experience is up to snuff as described here.
RE7 is my favourite game in the series. It brought be back and reintroduced me to horror after being absent from not only RE games for so long, but horror games in general.
I strongly recommend it for anyone who enjoys horror or RE games.
Nice! I didn't expect reviews to go live this early.
Subjective opinion, I think RE8's mercenaries is one of the best versions. It's linear, so there is less player agency than more traditional merc modes, but it's honestly very very fun to master the rhythm and patterns to get the S tier rankings.
If you’re referring to my comment about criticizing others, I stand by that. If you’re insinuating that I feel we shouldn’t criticize Nintendo, then maybe what I wrote is unclear.
Yes, I think it’s too expensive and I think Nintendo could drop the price.
No, I don’t care about how much others want to pay. Even if it’s the same ROM that you or I could rip from a purchased and licensed copy of the original games.
Started a new game plus of Resident Evil 4 Remake (PC) on Professional mode to get my body ready for Resident Evil Requiem.
This game is just… perfection. I hope it comes to Switch 2 one day.
I also pre-ordered Requiem on PC, so you know my answer for next weekend.
On Switch 2, I’ve put another hour or so into The Rogue Prince of Persia. Finally beat the first boss and I made it pretty far into that run. The game is light enough to pick up before bed but just challenging enough to keep you engaged and not enraged (low heart rate) before sleeping
Maybe if they go on sale, I’d get FireRed because Charizard.
I know the games sell for hundreds of $$$ for physical copies today… but I’d never buy it at that price. I also didn’t buy it at retail when it released over 20 years ago at typical GBA MSRP ($30 to $40 CAD)? Simply because I didn’t see the need at the time to rebuy those games when my original copy of Pokemon Blue worked in my GBC, GBA.
I think I’d have fun with it for a few hours and never touch it again. Max I would pay for it is $10 CAD and even then, I would hesitate.
Wishing those who are excited for the release a good experience. I don’t think it’s fair to criticize if people are wanting to spend $20 or any amount on these games. They’re classics, rare, and expensive.
My earliest memory was playing an N64 with Ocarina of Time… at a Dairy Queen. Google tells me Dairy Queen never had them, it was only McDonalds, so I could be off. But for some reason, I am very confident it was Dairy Queen. I never grew up with McDonalds really, so maybe I am crossing wires.
Memory is foggy but I visited this Dairy Queen (McDonalds?) often as a kid. It had a play area, with a ball pit and TVs with N64 demo stations. One station had OoT and I believe it was setup with the Deku Tree / forest area.
I did not know what a quality game I was playing. Shortly after, mind you I was around 6-8 years old, I borrowed the game from time to time from friends, but I never owned OoT. I beat it but never bought it
My first Zelda game that I owned, after being enamoured with OoT was infact - Majora’s Mask.
Majora’s Mask will always remain my favourite Zelda. I have the guide and all. I discovered every secret in the game and I became obsessed with it as a kid. I don’t think I would want to play it again, unless it was a remake, but I’ll never forget those experiences on N64.
I’m not criticizing those who pre-order but preload? It’s 40mb. Common now. Unless you’re on a 56k modem in the middle nowhere, that download will take seconds. This webpage alone with ads is probably more than 40mbs.
I’ve only played N64 and Power (GCN) but this list seems… off. I find it hard to believe, especially in the context of the comments, these are objectively the best games.
I love Mario Power Tennis and I also bought it at a reasonable price at the time. You know, when Nintendo would offer decent sales. To some degree, I feel all the games offer a similar experience. Sure, some might be more tuned and have more content, but I find it shocking Fever is so low.
I won’t buy the game today because it’s $70 USD and I am being extremely careful in my purchasing decisions these days… but it doesn’t mean the game is bad. It honestly looks like the best Mario tennis in years. As long as the AI is challenging and the tournament modes, mini games are fun, that’s all I really need a single player gamer. But that price tag today, with cost of living and everything else rising, really hurts.
Here I am, still waiting for a good deal for Mario Golf: Super Rush. So I don’t think I’ll be playing this anytime soon but I am open minded to give Fever a go when I can afford to do so
Are these limited timed releases? Or will they stay on the eShop indefinitely?
I ask because I am in no way interested to play these games today, but I could see my self wanting to try them in the future. Especially if they go on sale.
I know it’s “greedy” to sell them but people harp all the time they want a VC version and this is it. The GBA copies are very, very expensive today so the price model doesn’t surprise me. What surprises me is that they’re even selling it and not putting it on NSO.
It’s quite new so I don’t think it has (yet) but I would expect it to drop 50% off this year. Bethesda always does frequent sales. It will also be the 15th year anniversary this fall.
I’d hold for now unless you’re eager to do a another playthrough and reviewers validate this update brings it where it needs to be.
Agree but maybe, and I don’t where you stand, we wait a bit longer for a sale… I ain’t rewarding Bethesda with a full price upgrade considering how low the bar was and they still dropped the ball
That is correct. People should have, regardless where you live and your beliefs, the right to voice their opinions. It’s also two way street and if people don’t want to purchase a product from someone who has opposing opinions, they can choose to do so.
I think, in truth, it’s a small vocal minority. Unless someone, like an indie developer, is extremely actively supporting a person / company / country / political view that strongly clashes with my beliefs, I personally don’t see it making an impact on my purchasing decision or many others. Just my take. Maybe I should be more active with where I stand on things I dislike but I think it’s more important to stand up and support the things you do like or believe in. Volunteer. Make a donation. Fundraise. There are lots of positive avenues to make a difference.
On the topic of Braid, I enjoyed playing it briefly on 360. I always felt too dumb at the time and I thought the game, along with many others of the era, really kicked started what we call “Indie” today.
I’m curious how Braid holds up in 2026 but I am not keen on spending more than $10 on it. For no reason either than I’ve played it and the game is 20 years old.
I have my original copies of Rayman on PC and Gameboy Advance. One of my absolute favourite 2D side scrollers. I haven’t played it in at least 20 years and I still remember that level with the pencils and erasers like yesterday.
People who are arguing with those raising valid concerns about lack of single player depth should go check out reviews from Mario Power Tennis or Toadstool Tour.
Mario games have always been designed to be “easy to approach, difficult to master” and the older Mario sports games were no different. It doesn’t mean we think that this game is bad. It’s just a shame the focus is now on party modes and multiplayer.
Again, nothing wrong with that. It’s just not my particular cup of tea. Especially as I get older, my time is limited, and I want to have an experience I can enjoyably grind on my own.
I gotta read up on a few other reviews to see how the tournament mode is for single player. If there is a lot of meat there, it could still be fun for single player. I'm not big on Adventure modes in these games, but there still needs to be something tangible to train / invest time into for single player.
Tough call. Both have good compositions that suit their box format (landscape and portrait) and great art. I voted JP simply because I prefer the way the explosion is shown, with the 4 directional paths of flames. Real close choice for either IMO.
The demo on Switch 2 really impressed me. Capcom has got it together. I am almost convinced to get RE9 on Switch 2 than PC… almost but I know PC version after a Denuovo patch will slap hard
I haven’t booted my Switch or played games in about a month and I had a couple spare hours today. So bare with me here as I have a few thoughts!
I downloaded the Pragmata demo and booted up Rogue Prince of Persia.
Pragmata, at first I thought it was a bit clunky. Moving around the environment and specifically the way your player collides with objects feels a bit off. Once I got into the combat / puzzle gameplay, I forgot about that and I had a blast. As a PC / Switch gamer, I was really impressed by the performance. I played in handheld and for the first 10mns it appeared blurry, but then I just forgot about that too and was having fun. 22mn clear time for the demo. The game shows a lot of promise and I really like the puzzle / strategy combat happening in real time. It works well with the pacing of the robots you fight.
Rogue Prince of Persia is pretty fun too! It’s a little slow, easy at the beginning. Once you start to get into the flow and unlock more maneuvers and weapons, the flow becomes very fun! Took me about 20-30mns to get into the groove. I’ve died twice at the first boss but I feel on my third time, I’ll get past it.
Release it on the eshop! Making a demo and limiting it to physical only is very odd. Is the marketing or development costs for demo sponsored by these stores?
1080p scales evenly into 2160p (4K) and 1440p technically doesn’t. Maybe running the game natively at 1440p isn’t a locked 120fps? Seems unlikely given the hardware. In either case, I suspect there are only two options (1080p and 4K) just to keep it straightforward for the users.
I appreciate it, I just hope it continues across more games, and not just the biggest sellers. It would be "nice" if it were possible to apply an approach, system level, that adjusts games resolution to match the outputs.
My only gripe of playing unpatched SW1 games on SW2 is poor UI / scaling. 720p mobile games don't scale well to the 1080p screen. Games look blurry. I don't need 4K / 60fps patches across the board (its more of a nice to have) but ensuring at baseline, the experience is as good or better on Switch 2 compared to Switch 1 would be nice.
A few of the previews mention the tennis component is very simplified. With the fever brackets and chaos, it sounds like more of a party game.
Which is fine but for the Mario sport enthusiasts, I have a feeling this will be a pass or borrow from a friend situation. I think I will skip now that I’ve read some previews.
Im a bit anxious. I'm really looking forward to a new Mario sports game with a challenging career, that is driven by practice and some level of skill refinement. I fear you will have to go out of your way to play these limited modes / disable fever brackets.
If the expectations for most gamers are just a fun, family game, I'm sure it will do fine. I just miss the more challenging sport games, like the older Mario Golf games or Mario Power Tennis.
The expectations might be impacted by the project going over budget. Scope creep, insufficient allocation of resources (people, time etc.) or other issues.
Your point is valid but it could have had implications on the scope or quality of the product.
I don’t think we’ll find out why anytime soon but I think it’s important we have competition in the arcade racing segment.
I agree with you with the GenAI topic. It's extremely scummy. My only point is that machine learning and other AI functions still offer value. If you're using AI tools, like GenAI to create assets, worlds etc, to replace the creative process. I think it's a bridge too far.
If you're using it to refine your workflow, and avoid repetitive tasks that offer little to no value, I think that warrants a discussion. I'd rather developers use their time more effectively on decision making and other creative iteration or problem solving that ultimately improves the user experience or product.
@MegaVel91 I think there is a difference between asking AI to do all the work for you vs. tuning solutions to complex challenges or efforts that developers face on the day to day.
Of course if you prompt the AI to "make a game like BotW", well... you deserve the result of Nintendo's lawyers. Now, what if you're asking AI to tune the way NPC react when a player puts on a piece of gear. Maybe... that's a better way of working then manually adding a list of prompts in a database behind the scenes.
Remember that scene from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, where William (Charlie's father) get's replaced in the factory by automation only to get a new job that was better to maintain the machines?
I'm not saying this will happen for all people across the board, but at some point, we do have to embrace these tools. Banning isn't a solution, since someone else will create something else and so on and so forth. We just need to finetune our approach to how we use these tools.
The most successful entrepreneurs and companies will be the ones who use these tools to make something new and exciting. Of course a copy / paste will fall flat on its face.
If AI accelerates development, don't tuck your head in the sand. Embrace it, learn from it, evolve. All this doom and gloom really doesn't reflect our reality. We're not going BACK to an AI-less world.

Overall, some fun experiences

I appreciate it, I just hope it continues across more games, and not just the biggest sellers. It would be "nice" if it were possible to apply an approach, system level, that adjusts games resolution to match the outputs.
My only gripe of playing unpatched SW1 games on SW2 is poor UI / scaling. 720p mobile games don't scale well to the 1080p screen. Games look blurry. I don't need 4K / 60fps patches across the board (its more of a nice to have) but ensuring at baseline, the experience is as good or better on Switch 2 compared to Switch 1 would be nice.
Re: Borderlands 4 Switch 2 Development Paused, According To Take-Two
@DennisReynolds Corpo translation of paused means it’s stopped, killed, deleted etc.
We will not see Borderlands 4 on Switch 2.
Re: Round Up: The Final Previews Are In For Mario Tennis Fever
@Nintendontyouknow
Re: Round Up: The Final Previews Are In For Mario Tennis Fever
Im a bit anxious. I'm really looking forward to a new Mario sports game with a challenging career, that is driven by practice and some level of skill refinement. I fear you will have to go out of your way to play these limited modes / disable fever brackets.
If the expectations for most gamers are just a fun, family game, I'm sure it will do fine. I just miss the more challenging sport games, like the older Mario Golf games or Mario Power Tennis.
Re: Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Fails To Meets Sega's Expectations
@tanaka2687
Re: Poll: What Nintendo Switch 2 Games Are You Most Excited For In 2026?

Re: Google's 'Project Genie' Is Basically A Huge Plagiarism Tool, So When Will Nintendo's Legal Ninjas Strike?
@DTFaux
Re: Google's 'Project Genie' Is Basically A Huge Plagiarism Tool, So When Will Nintendo's Legal Ninjas Strike?
@MegaVel91 I think there is a difference between asking AI to do all the work for you vs. tuning solutions to complex challenges or efforts that developers face on the day to day.
Of course if you prompt the AI to "make a game like BotW", well... you deserve the result of Nintendo's lawyers. Now, what if you're asking AI to tune the way NPC react when a player puts on a piece of gear. Maybe... that's a better way of working then manually adding a list of prompts in a database behind the scenes.
IMO it's not black and white
Re: Google's 'Project Genie' Is Basically A Huge Plagiarism Tool, So When Will Nintendo's Legal Ninjas Strike?
