Re: Rumour: Dark Souls II Now In Development For Nintendo Switch

HorseRenoir

To me, the ideal scenario would be for them to release the first two games in a pack for the Switch, since they are older games anyway that should not be too challenging to get on the Switch, which would be a much more attractive offer than release two older games separately over time, specially now that a lot of people think that DS2 is a bit of a black sheep, and based on the sales of that, gauge if it would be worth to tackle the challenge of porting Dark Souls III. But hey, that's just me dreaming. Would be super cool.

Re: Nintendo Confirms Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Is A "Brand New Game", Not A Wii U Port

HorseRenoir

I really don't get people saying it's a port. The graphical leap might not be that huge, and I'm sure there are assets from the previous game they're using, but it has tons of characters and stages not on the Wii U and 3DS, there are numerous changes to fighters (more than ten thousand, as Sakurai pointed out) new fighting mechanics, new items, new character models, new music... seriously, people are still saying it's a port? Is Super Mario Galaxy 2 an "enhanced version" of the first one? Metroid Prime 2, as well?

Re: Praise The Sun! Dark Souls: Remastered Is Coming To Switch This May

HorseRenoir

I recently finally got into this series. Finished Dark Souls and Bloodborne last year and finished Dark Souls III yesterday (kinda, now doing the optional stuff). So yeah, I recommend it to my fellow Nintendo fans. It's definitely worth it. But, as you most likely heard, it is incredibly challenging, so bear that in mind.

Re: Soapbox: What The Upcoming Pokémon Switch RPG Can Learn From Recent Pokémon Games

HorseRenoir

@Phantom_R Thank you. God, I know this is petty, but I rolled my eyes and almost stopped reading article when he started with that same tired "back in the good old days Pokémon were animals and now they're Digimon" speech. Seriously, just take the nostalgia goggles off and you'll see every generation of Pokémon has its lazy, uninspired designs. I guarantee you, if Jynx was from any generation other than I (maybe II) it would be considered one of the worst Pokémon of all time and an example of how the old ones were better.

Re: Guide: Essential Tips to Reach Level 100 in Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon

HorseRenoir

Grinding to level 100 in the original S/M was painful. It seems at least a bit better in this one. Is that Roto Loto thing entirely luck based or can you manipulate it into getting the power you want? Because if it is, I'd rather just have O-Powers back. GameFreak has a bit of a history with axing cool, useful features from one generation to another just to... I don't know, be different?

Also, nothing will ever top the best grinding method in the series: secret bases with level 100 Blisseys in ORAS assisted by experience O-Power and Lucky Egg. That was awesome. Altough, pretty sure not intended by the developers;

Re: Anniversary: It's Been 10 Years Since Super Mario Galaxy Landed On The Wii

HorseRenoir

Galaxy is a classic. Between its anniversary and Odyssey's release, I've been reminded again of why I love Mario so much. I can't really choose, both are great for different reasons. Altough I have more nostalgia for Galaxy, for obvious reasons. Also, something that I do know I like better is Galaxy's soundtrack. It's phenomenal. They went all-out with the music on both Galaxy games.

Re: Review: Metroid: Samus Returns (3DS)

HorseRenoir

A lot of people hoping for a Switch port. Has Nintendo ever given any indication that they would do something like that? I think it's pretty unlikely, especially with the whole Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon thing. I'll just buy it for the 3DS, we need to show with our wallets that we want more Metroid.

Re: Soapbox: Playing Super Mario Sunshine Today Painfully Illustrates Nintendo's 3D Evolution

HorseRenoir

Some really gimmicky, glitchy missions aside (pachinko and watermelon festival stand out), I think the game controls fine. I feel like the camera issues aren't anywhere nearl as bad as you say.

Now, here's my major problem with this game: I think trying to finish it with all the shines it's a major pain. This game has some things that just reek of filler. Some missions feel like were made at the last minute to fill the 120 shine quota (the one that sticks out the most to me is Scrubbing Sirena Beach, it's not even subtle) Each level has at least two red coin missions, counting the revisits to the FLUDD-less levels (Bianco Hill has a whopping four) and of course, some of the most transparent padding I have ever seen in a game; Blue Coins. Those things are just ridiculous. Seriously, you need all of them to get 24 shines, and they just...put them anywhere in the levels. So many of them you get by spraying some random corner of the levels with water, and that's just stupid. And a lot of them only appear in specific missions, by the way. Just walking around spraying water everywhere hoping to find them (and having to do it more than one time, because some of them are mission specific) isn't my idea of fun. It's just busywork.

Trying to finish this game completely is draining to me. It remains the only 3D Mario I never fully completed. However, there is still a lot of fun to be had with this game. A lot of the missions are a lot of fun, there is some really solid platforming with the FLUDD-less levels, it's just super fun jumping around the levels with the assistance of FLUDD, the levels are beautiful, the bosses are fun (except that eel in Noki Bay, that thing is just annoying)... yeah. This is one game that I personally feel that both the praise and backlash it gets are wildly exaggerated. I don't think that it is a underrated masterpiece, nor an crime against society. I look at it like I look at Skyward Sword: a game with a lot of padding, that feels kind of rushed, but still with a lot of good stuff in there.

Re: Review: Rayman Legends: Definitive Edition (Switch)

HorseRenoir

Great game. But because of the Murfy stages, I recommend this more for people who want a multiplayer experience. I think those levels can be a bit boring playing by yourself. But the multiplayer is fantastic, it's a shame that it doesn't have online play.

Re: Aonuma Says That Open World Is Here to Stay in Zelda Games

HorseRenoir

I love BOTW, especially the freedom, the challenge, and the size of the world. The only thing that disappointed me was the main quest, it was just too short. Maybe have some dungeons to do before the Divine Beasts or something like that. Specially if those dungeons were like Hyrule Castle is in BOTW, that place was so cool. Still, I love the game. Before it was over, I was already wishing I could explore that Hyrule for the first time, so I'm pretty excited for another game like this.

Re: Pokémon Sun And Moon's Next Global Mission Is Now Live

HorseRenoir

I was grinding a lot at the Battle Tree, mostly trying to get my daily Bottle Caps, until last week. Some of the hax... let's just say it kinda got to me. Is it just me, or there are a lot more of those jerks that use Double Team and confusing moves? And with Zelda coming very soon, I don't think I'll be playing Pokémon for a while.

Re: Nintendo Download: 2nd March (Europe)

HorseRenoir

I'll get Breath of the Wild for the Wii U 00:01, March 3rd . I wanted the physical copy, but I would have to wait at least another week until the game arrived, and... yeah, no chance. I'll buy the physical version for the Switch later, when I get one. Probably at the end of the year. Still debating on my head for which I'll get the DLC.

Re: Game Freak Has Revealed the Third Global Mission for Pokémon Sun and Moon

HorseRenoir

I'm just waiting for that elusive Bank support. I won't use it just for getting my ORAS Pokémon to Moon, but also to train and level up to 100 whichever Pokémon I can on ORAS and THEN transfer them for Moon, because I think Moon is the worst game in the series to get to level 100 since... God, Ruby/Sapphire? It takes forever. And adding more salt to the wound, it's the game that introduces Hyper Training, so there is a concrete reason to get to level 100 this time.

Re: Rayman Creator Discusses Legends: Definitive Edition for Switch

HorseRenoir

I think the only things that would make me double dip are an online mode or a considerable amount of new levels. But still, if you don't have it, I recommend it. Great game, especially on multiplayer. I'm not really sure how much I would recommend it if you're just looking for a single player game, because the Murfy levels, while really fun on multiplayer, I found kind of boring in single.

Re: Retro: Check Out These Early Prototype Pictures of the Nintendo DS

HorseRenoir

Maybe it's because I always compared it to that unfinished model that they showed at E3 2004, which I find hideous, but I always thought the original DS looked OK.

This makes me feel so old. It's been 12 years, man. Doesn't feel it's been long since I played Pokémon DPP all the time with my friends at school and while chatting with them on MSN. That's crazy.

Re: Feature: The Wii U's Journey - Four Years of Excellence, Failure and Indifference

HorseRenoir

@A01 It was really frustrating for me that the first year of the Wii U (among other things) stained its reputation forever while people seemed to ignore that for so long, 90% of the PS4 and X1's library consisted of remasters. Even the Wii U's lackluster first year gave more reason to buy a new system than the other two, but for some reason people and media gave them a pass. I don't think that had much impact on the Wii U's success, honestly, but it was still frustrating. They finally started justifying their existence, thankfully. I have a PS4 on the way.

Re: The Man Behind Goosebumps And Monsters Vs. Aliens Is Directing The Detective Pikachu Movie

HorseRenoir

Yay, because Pikachu needs more exposure. Such an underrated character. I mean, I know he's the franchise's mascot, but you don't need to make a freaking Detective Pikachu movie just because Pikachu is front and center. Especially when the general concept of Pokémon would adapt so easily into a film. There are 801 other Pokémon, put Pikachu in a prominent role while giving other Pokémon big parts too. You may end up with some new cash cows if you do it right.
