Still not hyped enough about this elusive Nintendo Direct? Well here's another rumour to keep you ticking over - Kotaku is reporting that Dark Souls Remastered will be announced today for Switch in a "mini" Direct broadcast.
We've heard Dark Souls rumours in the past so this might be on the money; apparently, a few hours after the Direct it will be confirmed that the game is also coming to PS4, Xbox One and PC. All versions are expected to launch in May, apparently, and will showcase various visual and gameplay improvements.
Another source has told Kotaku that the end goal for Bandai Namco is to release the entire Dark Souls series on Switch, in the fullness of time.
We won't have to wait long to find out if this is legit - what do you think?

Bring it!
I heard that it will be released on May 24th in Japan.
AAaaaaaaaaaahhhhh HYPER HYPE!
If it is legit. RIP many Switches.
Best game of the trilogy and the best 'Soulsborne' game alongside Bloodborne. Sunk hundreds of hours into this on Xbox 360 and PS3, and more than happy to do so again. It'll be interesting to see what they change but I hope it's nothing too drastic, as it's near enough perfect as it is.
Welp, here I go dyin' again...
And again, and again, and again, and...
Seriously, DS1 kicked my ass the first, second and third time around. Only after getting hooked on Lords of the Fallen (nabbed it from a bargain bin way back when) did the whole 'Souls' idea click for me. Weeks after LotF, I gave DS1 another go and got it right. I finally killed the Taurus demon (Don't laugh...) and figured out to run PAST the bloody dragon rather than try and take him on. I kinda blacked out the next 2-3 weeks, but apparantly I got 'gud', praise the sun, and beat the game.
Played halfway through DS2, never touched DS3...
Anyway, hell yes, gimme DS1 on Switch!
Please stop, I only have so much free time.
These rumors are starting to get even more on my nerves than those NX rumors. Just give‘em their Direct already, Nintendo, we know you have it!
Aside from that. Oh YES, please give it to me, Nintendo!
Also, the Chibi Robot on fire makes sense now.
Laura Kate Dale. This time I believe.
Dark Souls is a fantastic game, so I'm glad it finally comes to a Nintendo platform.
I would love to play Dark Souls again!!
This would force me to get a Switch.
The only game series to continually kick you in the balls and you want more.
@GoldenGamer88 How does it make sense now? HELP ME!!!
@SegaBlueSky I'd say they could improve a fair amount of things in DS1. Its world is the best in the series but it has some areas that could definitely be improved and fixed. Lost Izalith most notably.
bandai namco needs to understand that the people want TAIKO
Let's see if we can spoil the whole Direct before it happens - that'll teach Nintendo!
I'm dying!
All this hype for a "mini" Nintendo Direct.
Will a "full" Nintendo Direct make the Internet go nuclear? Haha.
@gcunit dat avatar
Never tried DS1, want to play Demon Souls first.
Only a mini-Direct after all the hype?
We want a 90 minute epic filled with announcement after announcement. No more than 2 minutes spent on any one game. That's what we want and we want it now!
I joke but aye, it being 'mini' will be a little disappointing!
Chill out everyone. It's a rumour. But I Believe it to be very true. But still a rumour. I don't believe Nintendo has ever shown a direct without officially announcing it at least 2 days beforehand. We'll see
Just a remaster ? The Dark Souls 1 remaster is needed, of course (and a Demon Soul one too), but a Nintendo Mini... just for a remaster ?
I don't think NOA Twitter Account would have gone on fire just for that... I hope not. Well, we'll see !
Full Direct or nothing!
but wow, Dark Souls would be amazing!
Has Nintendo ever done a direct without announcing it beforehand ?
@hiptanaka
They love reporting her rumours on here, I don't!!!!!
This entire rumour has to be a joke... Right..? Just to... Just to mess with all those people who have surpassed hyper mode and gone straight to souring insane?
Maybe Nintendo are the master trolls after all, if it is indeed the case.
I'm half way through the game on PS3 at the moment, don't think I'd start it again but I'd definitely buy 2 & 3 for Switch
Dark Souls is the Dark Souls of Dark Souls.
@-Green- True, Lost Izalith is a prime candidate for improvement - would love a good reason to revisit those areas more often. I think I'm just a little over-attached to its flaws, bizarrely. I mean, even the slowdown in Blighttown kinda added to the frustration - used to dread going there every playthrough but I still wouldn't change it! The world just connects so beautifully and I'd be wary of some of the charm disappearing if they messed around with it too much. But we'll see!
my heart has started to beat uncontrollably quick
If this direct take the "mini" format the internet will burn.
A certain friend of mine is going to go ballistic with joy now. Nintendo has done it again!
Oh look another SkyrimzzZZZZ
Please be more than that they announce.
ah heck yeah! day 1 buy for me
I could see Dark Souls 1, and I would buy it in a heartbeat (again), just to play it on the go. Dark Souls 3, though? That game occasionally had a tough time running on PS4, so I’m curious as to how they could get it up and running on Switch.
No way, I just don't see if happening. But cue all the people whining about 3rd party ports if this actually does happen.
@nmanifold
Ummm, have you ever played a single Souls game? Gameplay wise, they don’t really have all that much in common. I want a full Direct, but I have wanted handheld Souls for seven years, so this would be absolutely amazing (if true).
@gcunit Chibi‘s on fire, fiery imagery is shown and lore often deals with fire in Dark Souls. Just sayin, though.
That would be nice.
@smashboy2000 The kotaku article says Dark Souls remaster as part of the mini, so it's not just for DS
I've never played Dark Souls, but was thinking about it. I just added it to my Steam Wishlist, but if this is true, I'll gladly get it on Switch instead.
Souls 1 is great, 2 not so much but 3 again is great. I do think bloodbourne is the best of the bunch though.
@nmanifold
Dark Souls is nothing like Skyrim though...
Although I must admit I hope to see more games being announced, rather than Dark Souls only.
Dark Souls will be a day one purchase for me anyhow.
This may be clutching on straws, but Fire Emblem Heroes has been quiet past couple of days, there is some Raidant Dawn contents coming on the 14th.
Add Diablo 3 and my satanic games collection will be completed on Switch (the other game is Doom).
Praise the Sun! (In the sun) 😁
Even if this doesn't turn out to be true right now, I've no doubt we'll see Dark Souls on Switch at some point down the line.
I know it's highly un likely and I'm a minority in this but I'd love to see a new chibi robo game on the switch in the style of the game cube ones.
A ‘direct mini’, welp time to go dig myself a grave.
Oh man there is going to be some great announcements this year, just think this time next year all these awesome games will be a normal thing on the switch and we will be riding the hype train again 2019 lol
This is great news as I have never played a dark souls game, but they look amazing and dark.
Direct Mini? Now? When they should have so much to announce?
And they don't even announce the Direct at least a day before?
Seems very unlikely.
I want this game so much. Don't play with my heart like that =(
@GraveLordXD
It definitely ran better than Bloodborne (my favorite PS4 game, though there were parts where it struggled), but there were moments (at least when I played) where it barely chugged along.
Either way, if this is true then this is the most exciting third-party Switch announcement for me!
From Software has been on-boat since the beginning. I can't wait for this!
Wouldn't mind a Mini Direct tomorrow as long as it was first announced in a full Direct today.
I'm pretty sure they've announced mini Directs in full Directs begore. I think that's how the W101 mini was announced, with the demo right after. Also maybe one for Pokémon or AC. But it feels like something they would do and have done.
Edit: Ok, so I misremembered quite a bit of that. 😛
But here's good news for everyone. Nintendo did a surprise 20 Mini Direct in July 2013 that had Pikmin 3, W101 and EARTHBOUND. So a surprise Mini Direct is possible today that has Dark Souls and several other games.
http://gameranx.com/updates/id/16158/article/nintendo-mini-direct-pushes-pikmin-3-wonderful-101-earthbound/
A Demon Souls remaster would be amazing, but obviously, that is not going to happen on the Switch.
@Heavyarms55 IKR! Nintendo will be just fine with solid third party ports of really good games plus their own first and second party games.
excellent have 2 and 3 on pc, never played the first.
day one buy
I actually think this might be accurate. I’m certainly down with Dark Souls Remastered on Switch!
With all the other crazy stuff happening in the past 24 hours, I'm just thinking, "Sure! Why the heck not??"
Another rumour...jeez.
Don’t even know what dark souls is😂
The way I read it, Switch will be getting more of a straight port while the other versions will be based on improvements from Dark Souls 3.
We shall see, but I would not relish playing the original version in handheld mode at all.
Something to keep an eye on, I really haven't looked into those games.
@ThanosReXXX Well maybe people would want their gifts spoiled if they woke up Christmas morning but there was nothing under the tree. And then the next day and the next day and the next. With the kids constantly asking the parents "Do we still celebrate Christmas in this house?" and the parents answer "Yes." and they continue to leave the tree up and then some random day in March the kids wake up and there are finally presents under the tree. Only the kids can't open the presents b/c while the presents are under the tree in their house the kids woke up in an insane asylum from being driven mad by their parents who didn't put the kids Christmas presents under the tree until March.
Hype and surprises are fine and all, but at some point you have to stop being stupid. Switch has almost no games confirmed for 2018 at all. 2 Wii U ports of Bayonetta and Lost Sphear in a couple of weeks. No dates for Kirby, Wolfenstein or Yoshi. If we already knew about games for March, April and May then it would be fine if the waited on the rest until E3, but we don't, we know almost notjing. 10 million Switch owners done playing Zelda and Mario wondering what's next. Which is fine, to a point. But that point is gone now and Nintendo is just being a bunch of male genitalia.
"what do you think?"
Wait, I cannot think while fapping...
Let's see what happens.
Jolly co-operation on the go? Why yes please and thank you.
Just beat the final boss on DS3 yesterday. Not sure if I would double dip, specially considering the likely downgrade. But I only played the first when a friend lent me the game, and never played 2. I would definitely buy those for the Switch.
Laura Kate Dale.. yeah grain of salt and all that here.
@hiptanaka What a throwback! I completely forgot about her and her blue hair. Good times
So you're searching for the word "Nintendo Direct", and you found one to make it a news...
i hope so never got around to playing any of the dark soul games i always wanted to but didn't have the hardware at the time and when i did i had other games that caught my eye and dark souls got forgotten about
When the he!! is this direct anyway. I like many am getting a bit impatient. I have a huge backlog and all but come on Nintendo I have to plan what game I am going to play in the months to come.
I have zero interest in this game, but if this is true, I'm really glad because I know a lot of people want it on Switch, and anything which makes the Switch more appealing to more people is good in my book
All I can say is, if their entire Direct plans for January is announcing this, I'll be majorly disappointed with Nintendo for the first time in over a year.
Oh hell yea. The first game was the one I spent the least time in, because the PC port was terrible, but played the hell out of the other two.
Since when does Nintendo do a Direct for 1 specific game that's 4 MONTHS OUT. That's not how they took. They do game specific directs a few weeks before it comes out. As much as I'd like to try Dark Souls I think this is false too
Another day, another rumor. Would be interesting if there was a "mini" direct as a sort of appetizer for third parties though. Hmmm.
@ricklongo @MoonKnight7 Surprise 20 minute Mini Direct in July '13 - Pikmin 3, W101, Earthbound.
I'd settle for a mini Direct of Pikmin 4, SSB4D and DS. 😆
http://gameranx.com/updates/id/16158/article/nintendo-mini-direct-pushes-pikmin-3-wonderful-101-earthbound/
Why a Direct Mini, though?
Eh, whatever. I won't believe this until it happens. Portable DS1 would pretty amazing, though.
@ricklongo @leo13
The Kotaku article clearly states that the Direct Mini will cover other upcoming games. Dark Souls will be the last of the announcements.
It never ceases to amaze me, the pique in interest for these games around here when they are all of a sudden finally coming to a Nintendo system. Suddenly folks are all in on Dark Souls now lol. Hey, maybe the main character will run around with a Mario hat on. Or a Link shield.
@rjejr
Yeah I remember that. If I recall correctly, Pikmin 3 was delayed and that was the first we heard anything about it, since the delay. Well they've done mini directs before, so why not do it again, but this time give the spotlight to third parties. Btw, what is going on in your new icon? Made me lol whatever it is.
@XenoShaun As opposed to all the other rumors? Laura Kate Dale usually has solid sources before saying anything, but no leaker is always right.
@gatorboi352
Yeah that tends to happen especially if people have never played them before. But I will say this much, playing Skyrim in handheld mode is just plain awesome.
Would I buy DS1 again, for the third time (PC and PS3 so far)? Triple-dip? !£"* YES I would! A portable Switch version of the series would be incredible, so bring it on!
so which Dark Souls game are we getting? Cuphead, the Dark Souls of shoot 'em ups, Crash Bandicoot, the Dark Souls of 3D platformers... According to most review sites, there's like a hundred Dark Souls games. I'd like you guys to be a little more specific.
It's here: https://www.nintendo.com/nintendo-direct/01-11-2018/
@rjejr In this particular case, concerning the Direct, I can more or less understand your point of view, but generally speaking, I truly despise this whole culture of "let's poke, prod and dissect everything until we know all there is to know before people should actually know it".
In other markets/industries it can also have benefits, like big corporations hiding important things from consumers, so in that case I wouldn't be against people finding out stuff about them, but in industries like these, that's just plain and simple spoiling and ruining the surprise, and thus the fun for a whole bunch of people.
No, let me have my nice surprises and keep your findings to yourself, oh person who I apparently can't poke a bit of fun at anymore...
(not you, but the leaker, obviously)
Jeez guys. Ms Dale, whoever Emily Rogers is and all these "insiders" sure know how to get clicks and views for their websites. Shameless. (But hope it's legit lol)
...with motion controls and motorbike DLC
Nintendo just doesn't care if I never get bored again, do they?
@GrailUK Well, in this case it actually is. But yeah, even a broken clock and all that...
@gatorboi352 I think Nintendo fans would really enjoy owning a PS4 or PC as well as a Switch, judging by the responses to third party games, haha.
I wonder how Laura figures this stuff out. She's basically always right with her Nintendo leaks. She must have great sources.
@hiptanaka good point, thanks I misunderstood it
Why is this still here?
@MoonKnight7 Well this thread is a bit out of date now, but I was right about a surprise Mini having more in it than just DS, so I'll take my bow now.
"Btw, what is going on in your new icon?"
It's from a Woody Allen movie called Sleeper. He wakes up in the future, and well I can't recall, watched it a few times in the 70's and 80's, haven't seen it since. But anyway in the movie there's this softball sized device called the "Orb" which when you hold it in your hand and it makes you feel, good shall we say. So anyway in the movie Woody is pretending to be a robot butler - yes really - and they give him the device to hold and he tries to maintain is composure. (It was the 70's, people were doing a lot of drugs back then) So anyway at the end of the movie, kind of one of those after the credits scenes, Woody is sitting there rubbing that gigantic version of the Orb.
And if you are wondering "why this avatar, why now?" ask Tetris girl.
@rjejr
Haha, it's cool, quite a bit happened right after I asked, but thank you for remembering me. I'll take a look sometime, sounds interesting!
'And if you are wondering "why this avatar, why now?" '
That's a question I never ask, we all have our own wacky reasons.
Wow.
Nintendo is killing it right now!
Darkest Dungeon releases this month. And, it seems that they are getting other AAA titles signed on the roster. With this release of Dark Souls, Bayonetta, and eventually a Monster Hunter title, the Nintendo Switch is positioning itself to be the best handheld system ever created in terms of content.
Simply put, PC ports of triple A titles is absolutely the way to go.
The formula:
Nintendo 1st party titles+PC Triple AAA Ports+Unique Indie Titles= TREMENDOUS success.
And, this is not even counting non-gaming 'app' potential.
e.g. Korg Gadget which is also set to be released on the Switch this year and is an incredible music production package.
Im extremely proud to be a Switch owner at this time!
@Multiboy2k Its a great time to be a Switch owner for sure.
Which Monster Hunter title are you referring to?
Since I am not sure (but hoping) we are getting Monster Hunter World....
man that last trailer. "Something wicked is coming". I thought it was FF XV. Then Dark Souls. What a disappointment
Nice. I'll eagerly await those titles too.
@sandman89 me neither lol
@Razer I ate my words, they just confirmed it is happening.
@dew12333 Must suck a girl knows more about games beforehand than you. You keep sh***** on Laura Kate Dale every damn time despite her being right like 90% of the time yet you never acknowledger her being right so you can tell people "dont listen to her!" "why do they report her stuff here mehhhh whine whine"
@AyeHaley what don't you understand about my whinning, I don't like narcissistic people trying to ruin everyone elses surprise and I don't come here to read it! But, just for you, I read her Twitter feed on this subject and read her delight in ruining the surprise, she was so pleased with herself. I'm chuffed for her!
And hey I get why you impatient people can't wait for the actual reveal, so much that you have to trawl every orrovise of the Internet in a vain attempt of knowing something I don't know, wow I don't care. It's your thing not mine, so thanks for your reply don't bother again.
I want it!
