Team Cherry’s Hollow Knight has performed tremendously well, sales-wise, since it was released on the Switch eShop last month. The game sold over 250,000 copies within the first two weeks and was positively received by players and critics alike.
With the eShop launch now out of the way, the Australian-based developer has revealed the fourth and final free content pack - Gods & Glory - will be made available on 23rd August. This pack will apparently be the largest yet, featuring a whole bunch of new bosses, new music, new NPCs and new quests.
Take a look at the announcement trailer above, and tell us in the comments if you’ll be playing this new content pack on release.

As if the game is not long enough...
One of the best examples of a "worth the price" experience on the eShop, for those who didn't get it yet take my word for it and buy it. I already double-dipped on Steam and my Switch.
Other developers should take note - make a refined experience and give all your players more bones to chew with extra content which is FREE. Probably bad business-wise, but very pro-consumer. I would honestly pay money for this amount of extra content in an already amazing game.
Already an awesome game, but surely a more free stuff is always welcome. The only issue I have is too small font, hope it'll be fixed sometime later.
I just started my adventure yesterday and have already logged over 3 hours yet I feel like I'm just getting started. I avoided any gameplay videos or trailers so have gone in mostly blind. What a game!
Absolutely fantastic game. Dropped Mario Tennis Aces for this and haven't looked back
Started it yesterday have about 3 hours in. Love love it!
I'm about 5 hours in sparring with the hornet. Great game.
Great game, and much longer than I thought it was going to be. I'm 30 hours in, with 83%.
@Galenmereth I found the game dreary and wondered how much variety there would be in the first few hours, but that's just the very start of the game. I love the game now.
Just waiting for the boxed release. I can't wait!
The anticipation of a physical release is killing me.
I love this support, however after 30+ hours and beating the game at 89% I think I will pass on this update. I am so pleased with my experience with this game I think I will just keep the great memories I have... plus SO SO SO much to play this month
@LtAldoRaine Since you seem to be pretty far, I'm wondering (trying to find an answer without risking spoilers): Do you know if there is seamless transition between main-game and all the extra DLC? I'm kinda hoping I don't accidentally venture into DLC and get to finish the main-game first, but I've got no idea whether the DLC actually unlocks before completing the main-game.
Seventeen hours in and counting. Still got such a ridiculous amount of things to do and bosses to kill and collectables to find. Cracking value, and if there is a physical edition en route, I won't be able to give them my money quick enough. I vote HK Amiibo please, and not in feeble amounts either.
A game maybe too difficult for me.
I spent about an hour or two and I don't feel any progress.
I think that loosing all of your hard earned money each time you die is what drive me off this game.
@gurtifus You can remedy that issue later on there are items that prevent or reduce loss of money, you can bank your money, and there are items that increase the amount of money you get so that if you aren't hoarding too hard, losing your money won't matter extremely much.
@Blizzia I believe the dlc is there from the start as optional bosses or harder versions of obligatory ones
@Balta666 ah okay. I was just wondering if it was possible to avoid getting into the dlc at all before finishing main game I'd like to make sure I've finished the first "hurdle" before taking on the (presumably harder) DLC!
I'm not paying for this!!
Anyone else get bored of it?😒
That's nice but, WHERE IS THE PHYSICAL???
@sandman89 do you like metroidvania's?
Absolutely love this game! Best 10.99 I’ve ever spent but how the f??k do people manage to complete steel soul mode?
@Aven Beat her this morning, after very many attempts, with a loud whoop. A fine adversary!
One of the best games I've ever played. Now all I need is a special edition retail version.
i cant get past the first boss ( not even sure hes a boss )
My biggest issue with this game is the art style which of course is a matter of taste. But other than that, it is a deep metrodvania title.
Still waiting for that R E T A I L version
@OorWullie you're in for quite a ride. Finished the game recently with 101% completion after 65 hours but still to defeat the 'true' final boss. Such a fantastic game and probably the best game around at the price it's at. This game puts most AAA games to shame with the amount of content there is. Wish more people would buy it because it deserves to be in the millions for sales numbers
15 hours in, what a masterpiece. It can feel a little padded at times (endless hallways with the same monsters) but the gorgeous environments and unsettling feeling make it all worth it. They absolute nailed it. Pun intended.
I've got 55 hours into this already and still plenty to do! This is one of my favourite games on the switch and at just a nudge over £10 its an absolute steal!
Extra content should be perfect for a second run (first was 106% in 36 hours). Shame it's coming out so close to Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate, though.
Best indie game I’ve purchased for Switch! I can guarantee I’ll buy Team cherry’s next game after such an amazing experience with Hollow Knight. Can’t wait to play this dlc and explore more of the HK world
@SBandy I agree you won't be paying for it. as it is free
So different from other developers these days. I don't know how things are working out business-wise, but I'm very thankful for having all that content for $15. Absurdly awesome and surprising game!
Excellent news to start the morning!!! Thanks to all the developpers! Hollow knight is a beast!
@Multi
Yes that was the joke!
@SBandy awww my sense of humour radar must be on the blink - sorry!!
For those posting that other developers need to take notice or something— this was the last stretch goal from their kick starter campaign. So it’s not like they necessarily were looking to just provide free dlc... they had to
@Multi
Happens to the best of us!
Of course as a consumer I'm happy how much worth you get for such a meager price, but I think the devs probably should've asked for a bit more.
@Balta666 absolutely love them. The map,fast travel system and if you die having to go kill the shade I just don’t really like. But it is gorgeous at times and I love the music and the difficulty
@sandman89 you could use a rancid egg instead of going to kill the shade?
@Blizzia Good thing the other guy answered you, because to be honest, I had no idea they had already released free updates to this game. I just now found out about that.
@LtAldoRaine Haha Well I know that there are the following updates:
1: Hidden Dreams
2: The Grimm Troupe
2.5 (Was a surprise update) Lifeblood
3: Gods & Glory (the one they talk about in this article, coming Aug 23rd)
All of them add quite a lot of new stuff. Hidden Dreams is supposedly some other area or something, Grimm Troupe is a major quest and Lifeblood was a bunch of tweaks, bug fixes, rebalancing and general extra content (think a few new bosses too).
I just wasn't sure if it was just seamlessly part of the world without you specifically going somewhere to unlock it, but apparently it is
I finished the game with 102% beating the true end boss and the Nightmare Grimm in 44 hrs - couple of mask and vessel shards that I missed but I won't bother getting the 106% completion rate. Difficult but great game
Amazing! Talking about showing love to fans...
@NintendoPete 107% lol
@Multi could you help me out with that please because I haven’t actually figured out how to do that yet
@sandman89 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bB-Dal28_vE
saves the old fingers on typing
@Blizzia Yes the DLC is all seamlessly integrated. That said, it's all made to not be accessible until the point in the game it makes most sense to access it at, so don't worry about running into it early. Grim Troupe is basically a sidequest that treks you around the whole map, Hidden Dreams are a bunch of harder versions bosses (or at least I think that's what it is) that are only accessible once you defeat the original.
Later on, there's going to be a full paid DLC release, that'll feature large amounts of new areas, bosses, enemies and more. That one may or may not be integrated, we don't know yet.
@Blizzia the DLC is hidden inside the game. It's not separate from the main game at all but you need to reach certain points in the game before you'll be able to find it. Honestly though, it's too well hidden in my opinion. I stumbled upon some of it but some of it I still hadn't found after completing the game. I kept thinking I would unlock it at some point but I got to the very end and there was no sign of it anywhere. I had to look it up in a guide, which bugs me a little. The dlc does add some very difficult extra challenges, but there were parts of the original game that were pretty dang hard too!
@link3710 Holy cow, we're getting MORE?! I don't know whether to laugh or cry xD Game is huge and I feel like I won't run out of content ever hahaha. Bet you I won't even be done with hidden dreams/grimm troupe/lifeblood when gods & glory comes out either. Thanks for the info btw!
@tedko Thanks for the info Yeah I might just look up a guide if I can't find it after beating the main game, though we'll see. Might trek around a bit seeing if I can stumble upon it!
@Blizzia yeah, this game is already huge and there's still more coming!! I still haven't beaten the third colosseum trial yet and some of the dlc bosses, but I need to take a break from it. I've been playing it a bit obsessively for the past couple weeks.
I dropped Splatoon 2 long enough to play this 5 hours and then went back to Splatoon. Nothing else seems to hold my attention.
@Varkster "I would honestly pay money for this amount of extra content in an already amazing game."
And that last sentence just cancels out everything else you stated.
@tedko Haha, yeah I decided to stop a little bit after I ragequitted on flukemarm or whatever that boss is named. I know its optional but I kinda want to beat it. I can't even get more than a few hits in before I get overwhelmed.
@Varkster If Dark Souls is true to the title in terms of difficulty then no thanks. Gave up on the third boss on Bloodborne. Maybe this will be easier to master as it isn't 3D but 2D? I'm on the fence as I'm in love with the style and music. But I am afraid it will bring too much frustration to enjoy the experience. Is this something my mind can still muster after being at the office all day when back home?
Got this on release but haven't really played it yet. I'll wait for this expansion before I start it.
@Nintendoforlife I'm literally just saying that it's insane that they're giving it out for free when players like me would pay money for this kind of content. I don't see my contradiction?
@Ponyfox I did love Bloodborne and the Dark Souls series, so it's not exactly something I can mirror your opinion on, however despite its difficulty and theming, I don't think this game is Dark Souls in 2D as most people say. You can see the inspiration, but this game is definitely its own. Sure, it has difficult bosses, sure it has a strong platforming learning curve and expectancy. If you like the metroidvania subgenre combined with strong platforming and action - you should try this game.
@Varkster The point you made in your post was how smart it was of Hollow Knight to release this DLC as free. And you ended it with a valid reason from a business stand point, for them to have not made it free. Basically you said “take note companies this is how it should be done”, and then confirmed the logic behind not doing like this.
@Nintendoforlife When I said other companies should take note I essentially meant make a refined experience and complete it with extra content. The fact that it's free is an unnecessary but much appreciated extra
Wasn't exactly the full point of my initial comment but sorry if my wording was gramatically confusing.
@Varkster Ahh ok I guess it’s my fault for misunderstanding, have a good rest of your day!
@LtAldoRaine ditto
@jockmahon keep trying. It is worth pushing through
@gurtifus Keep going. You will soon have more geo than you can spend
@Blizzia yeah, I hear you. My experience has been that some of the optional bosses or tricky platforming sections seem maddeningly impossible when you first encounter them, and it's better to keep exploring and finding upgrades. You can come back to them later and you'll find them much more manageable.
@tedko Ah okay. Well I also kinda tried to go another way, but... I got lost and atm I'm wandering aimlessly around haha.
These guys are too good! Can't wait to play the new content.
