Nintendo opened the Nintendo Direct at E3 2018 with a bang, debuting a new mech-based third-person shooter by the name of Daemon X Machina. In the vein of the classic Armored Core series, you’ll pilot a giant robotic suit of armour (known as an 'Arsenal') and take on all manner of giant bosses with rockets and massive swords galore.
Details are very thin on the ground for this one, but we do know it’s coming to Nintendo Switch some time in 2019 and that Marvelous and First Studio are working on it. We also know Ken Awata and Ken Karube will serve as game directors, and that Kenichiro Tsukuda is also involved. Tsukuda served as producer on Armoured Core 2, Armored Core 3 and Silent Line: Armoured Core.
What do you make of Daemon X Machina? An exciting new title coming to Switch in the new year? Share your take with us below…

Definitely sold on this one.
I’m getting this. Looks great.
Now this intrigues me. Gotta love a good mech battle game.
really looks good and I want to play this right now. Love me some Mecha games.
Loved the trailer ,and wait to hear and see more
At first I thought this would turn into a Xenoblade X sequel. I'll take this too!
Probably the highlight of the direct.
This was totally unexpected but looks great!
Loved this kicking off the direct. Looks great, hopefully will be backed up in the gameplay when it comes out. On my want list based on what has been shown though.
This game aroused me. Day 1.
@AcridSkull what, you didn't like the 10 minute Smash Bros changelog?
I actualy thoght this was the new Armored Core lol i want this game thogh
This set my expectations high for the Direct. I am a huge mech fan.
Looks awesome! Day 1 for me too!
Game of the show so far! Day 1
Awesome stuff! Definitely getting it!
Looks interesting.
So cool... Awesome mecha!
@Volmun I'm actually glad it isn't if that's what it took to get that cel-shaded graphics style.
Holy poop. I think I love it much more than if they're gone for more realist textures.
Seriously, I know people are made there's no Metroid Prime 4 announcement but can we bring this came closer to the top of the front page?
It's definitely the highlight of this year's Direct and I don't want to see that fade away before people even have the time register it in their consciousness
This unexpected reveal is basically my E3 highlight. No leaks, no rumours, just here is something never seen before. Was so convinced it was Armoured Core.
Found some details online:

Sounds like potential for some decent singleplayer campaign material
If this is all out action and no turn-based role play BS in disguise then I'm totally in - it looks stunning. LOVE the art style. Also hoping it's mostly single player focused - like an alternative to Kid Icarus Uprising.
All I ever wanted was a faster Armored Core. And this, this seems to finally be fufilling my dream.
Is it exclusive?
Also... This randomly made me wish Nintendo would bring back the Custom Robo series. Loved it on DS and Gamecube.
game of the direct. i love the trailer. anybody know the name of the song or what kind of genre that is? sounds amazingly bizzare
Stylish as!
@ballistic90 that was so ridiculous, they should have saved all that nonsense for the Treehouse. If that's all the games they have to show then we can't really moan about EA not supporting the Switch.
I just saw this and my mind was blown the rest of the e3 direct was very boring compared to this. I just want to know more.
@AcridSkull Nintendo did actually show off a sizable number of games, but too many were leaked, too much time was dedicated to Smash, and the order that they showed stuff off didnt do them any favors either.
Looks amazing... hoping for a decent Robotech game (and movie or TV Show) whenever.
@ballistic90 yeah, but how many were 1st party though.
Amazing, I was grinning from ear to ear when this opened the Direct. Just disappointed I'll need to wait so long to play it.
A multiplayer mech game like war robots would be awesome on the Switch.
@AcridSkull So? The third parties aee doing a decent job of expanding the game library.
Not gonna lie, until I looked closer and continued watching the opening, for a moment I thought this was a sort of XCX 2 announcement....
This looks pretty awesome, I think it's being overlooked.
That's a good size for player-controlled mecha, though I prefer them a bit more robust too.
Basically give me a game where I can pilot a Landmate from Appleseed. Or an Infinity TAG
@ballistic90 my comment was about Nintendo though.
My most hyped game in E3!! Looks very great
Looks good. All it needs is a Steel Battalion type peripheral, a first person perspective. Maybe start working on some Labo concotions.
Looks fantastic. They don't make em like this anymore
It was interesting, but I was waiting for some indication of how the game was played. It goes from sort of action to what looks like turn-based to making me wonder if it was all just a cinematic to abrupt cut after the big mech had some big explosions on it for the third time. Was it supposed to be destroyed, like more than the first two times it had big explosions on it? Two mechs flying - cut picture cut sound look at credits in silence while we wonder if there was a sound problem. lol.
Weird not to hear more about this one with such an energetic but low-information teaser. Always hopeful, though, and after it was all done, it ended up being one of the few items that felt truly new, so it became more important.
If this has local multiplayer then I'm sold! Nothing like showing off your mecha-build and going on missions with friends.
total surprise and this game looks really very cool. Surprised its a Nintendo produced effort, glad they are branching out a bit more. this and bayoneta 3 could be a tasty dish indeed.
So Nintendo's "we're focusing on games coming out soon" excuse for not even showing any trailers of other stuff was BS, since they're actually playing this on treehouse, and its not due till 2019.
@SomeWriter13 Watching the video from Treehouse now and they referenced this having 4-player co-op, but you might all need your own Switch?
@Darthroseman oooh awesome! No problem with having separate consoles as we have 6 at the office.
@SomeWriter13 Nintendo posted the video earlier today on YouTube, 25 minutes of gameplay from Treehouse, definitely worth watching! Got me all jazzed for the game.
@Darthroseman I saw that one! The character customization is a very welcome inclusion. This is already looking like a Day 1 purchase for me and my friends!
Yes, this looked sweet. Could be something.
