Super Mario Odyssey launches this week - as if you didn't know - and Nintendo has gone big on promoting the game in Japan.
Everywhere you look there are adverts, merchandise, magazines, cardboard stands and even Mario statues, all of which show that Nintendo isn't sparing any expense when it comes to marketing the living heck out of the title.
Nintendo has even joined forces with Uniqlo, so even if you walk into a store to innocently buy some clothes you cannot escape the Super Mario Odyssey demo pod. He's everywhere.
There's one big problem here - anyone who doesn't own a Switch already and wants to experience Mario's latest adventure might be out of luck. Consoles remain hard to come by in Japan, with stores still holding lotteries to distribute stock.
Are you excited about getting your hands on the game this week? Let us know with a comment.

The game I most desired upon the Switch's proper unveiling. Would rather have had ODYSSEY be the big launch game over BREATH OF THE WILD (personal preference). So my anticipation for this new 3D Mario adventure is huge. Managed to pre-order the game for £3 using Tesco shopping points. Although we've decided to put the game away until Xmas as a family gift to us ourselves from Santa. Will be tough to wait but make the experience all the more merrier come December. Very happy and excited that my fellow Switch owners and likely some new owners come Friday will get to play this game. Let's hope it can reach the lofty heights of a SUPER MARIO GALAXY or a MARIO 64.
Wow, that's an insane number of capsule vending machines!
@Lroy Holy crap! That's rough
Just preloaded it. Next few days are going to be sweet. Going to see Thor Ragnarok tomorrow, and when I'm back from the theater, gonna have this beauty waiting for me. There's also Stranger Things 2, but that's probably going to have to wait.
@Lroy To be fair they needed more time for Mario, because unlike Zelda that game was meant to be on Wii U like a year ago, (infact since I got it for the Wii U it took my interest off buying a Switch for months intill more new games came about) I think that's another big thing getting people hyped as this one of the biggest NEW games that's only on the Switch.
I must be hanging around the wrong parts of Tokyo, cause I barely see any ads for Mario with the exception for local convenience store where you can pre-order the game... or maybe I'm just immune to advertisements
Friday is going to be so busy. Wolfenstein II, Mario Odyssey ánd Stranger Things. Assassin's Creed Origins too, but I just don't have the time for it, so it will have to wait.
@Lroy
I've considered doing that myself (putting the game away until Christmas day) but there's just no way I'd have the will power not to play it.
I've not felt this excited about a new Mario game since 2007 (10 years ago) when Super Mario Galaxy launched.
3D world although a great game just didn't do it for me
@Lroy Planned to do that but I got a train journey on Friday afternoon.
I soul is willing (well kind of) but the flesh is weak.
Two days, people. Two more days. Plus I'm not drinking this month so even the pub can't stand in my way.
@Lroy I admire the people who have the tenacity to hold stuff back. I've booked Friday and Monday off, so Tuesday I'm going to be sleep deprived and unclean.
Hopefully Nintendo can get their Switch Stock Issues Fixed soon so everyone will be able to get one without having to do these lotteries 😕
Cant wait, must be hell to not have a Switch, do have the money for it, but not the stock in your country to furfill your desire. The Japanese must go bonkers
I’ve got a 10 hour flight to Mexico on Sunday so Amazon best not let me down.
1 more sleep
@Marios-love-child No, don't say that, it hasn't been ten years!!!! It just came out!
If Nintendo only gave their other titles this much attention...
@chardir
The Yodabashi stores in Japan will have numerous long rows of Gasphon machines, far more than shown, and they are literally dotted around everywhere you go in japan.
@Henmii
Seriously, you may need to elaborate as that comment is just stupid.
@dew12333,
You know what I mean: They never give games like for example Metroid any marketing. But stuff that already sells on its own, Mario and Pokemon always gets their fullest attention. I don't get it!
I have been waiting for this game, before purchasing the Switch console!
So yep, can't wait!
As a 50+ I've played Mario from the very beginning, at long last it would appear that Nintendo have given us the Mario game that we have been waiting for years to get our hands on.
Now all we need is Pikmin 4!!!!!!
@Henmii if you are a metroid or fire emblem fan, you'll figure out when the next game comes out. The general population doesn't care. Mario ads aren't for the likes of us, they're for mom and dads that don't play videogames, that walk into a store and ask a sales associate: "What's all this then? A Mario game you say? Hmmm, Billy and Mandy might like that, very well, ring me up a Nintendo Switch Action Set!....what's that, they'll only love me if I buy these amiibo things also? Well then, I'd better get those and just throw in whatever other games are popular with kids nowadays."
@Alikan,
Lol. Well, you do have a point. Still I would love to see Nintendo give their other franchises this treatment too, to achieve more attention among the masses.
So hyped, I’m even going to the midnight launch on Thursday to get it and I have never done that for any game. Ever.

Japan is getting a Mario bundle Friday, w/ a sweet sticker set we aren't getting in the West. Hopefully Nintendo has been sitting on those for awhile and a lot more people in Japan will be able to pick it up on Friday.
100,000 Switch sales could be a possibility.
We'll be getting the bundle for Christmas. We moved Christmas up to Oct 27th this year.
I live in Japan and my local mall replaced the Wii U section... With Mario Odyssey. THE ENTIRE THING.
@rjejr - I think 200K might be possible. I think Nintendo has been stock piling the Mario bundle since the Splatoon bundle.....but watch the number be 70K and I'll be way off
@Henmii
Your not wrong with that, I'd have loved to have collected far more over the years but merchandise has been very limited.
Slightly off topic, but I was reading translated Famitsu reviews yesterday for Odyssey on another site—and someone in the comments section posted a gif of a KEY MOMENT OF ODYSSEY’S ENDING! It took a second to register what I was seeing, and then I was thwomped. 😵
Be careful out there folks. Lotta trollage around this game...
Look at those plushies!
The whole world has Mario fever. I wholeheartedly approve!
