UK chart figures are now in covering last week's sales, with Red Dead Redemption 2 leading a multi-platform charge to supremacy and leaving Nintendo's presence looking rather sparse.
Rockstar's Western showstopper has generated more than double the number of physical sales managed by the 2010 original - which is even more impressive when considering the decline in popularity of physical media - comfortably slotting it into first place this time around. Other popular, recent releases such as Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 also remain at the top, with Nintendo's Super Mario Party clinging on to an eight place position.
The effects of these large, multiplatform releases (which are actually only available on consoles other than Switch) can be more easily seen in the individual formats chart, where Nintendo only has one title in the top ten - and in tenth, no less. We're now less than three weeks away from the release of Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee! - with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate coming not long after - so Nintendo will no doubt be hoping for more success in the weeks to come.
Here's a look at this week's top ten all formats chart (physical sales only):
1. (New) Red Dead Redemption 2
2. (1) Call of Duty: Black Ops 4
3. (2) FIFA 19
4. (5) Forza Horizon 4
5. (3) Assassin's Creed Odyssey
6. (4) Spider-Man
7. (6) LEGO DC Super-Villains
8. (7) Super Mario Party
9. (10) Shadow of the Tomb Raider
10. (9) Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy
Did you buy any of these chart-topping games this week? Do you expect Pokémon and Smash Bros. to take the charts by storm? Let us know down below.

How long before games media relents to talking about something other than RDR2, do we think? I've already watched about five hours of footage and I wasn't even that interested...
I dunno if Pokemon is gonna make much difference tbh. The mobile crowd are happy on mobile here.
And Smash is Smash so....role on 2D Mario that will be new to the population of the UK because "Nintendo hasnt made a system since the Wii"
@BladedKnight for months
Of course it sold well, the only thing Rockstar does well anymore is appeal to the mindless masses.
@FecesFace Can you please change your avatar. I come here to read about games, not see girls with crap on their face.
Call of Duty. Fifa. Rockstar. Welcome back UK. Where have you been?
@saintayu is it good or not?
@FecesFace So why is your name FecesFace? Faeces is just a posh word for crap
I really hope Super Mario Party has sold well for Nintendo. It really deserves it. It is brilliant
@FecesFace Well your name leads me to believe otherwise.
Well deserved, RD2 is an amazing piece of Digital entertainment. And if the Artis did 100hr work weeks, it shows. This thing is massive.
Nintendo just needs to get exciting games out the door. Bunch of old rehash and Mobile games you can play on a Huawei phone can't compete.
Same reason PS4 beat them again in the NPD US Numbers. The Games!
Starlink is gone... Even trying to paint it as a StarFox Game could not save it 🙄
@FecesFace You aren't fooling anyone. We all know you are being inappropriate.
@NewAdvent I didn't like the first one. You can think it's sublime and I can think it's not. It's all just opinion.
I was making a comment on sales, which is different. Sales aren't necessarily an indication of quality.
I'm personally not a fan of Mario Party games, but I do recognize that it is very popular with a large number of players, and with over a thousand games out (that includes all the Indies/Nindies), being in 8th place is an accomplishment, but the way it was worded made it sound like it was a bad thing.
@NewAdvent no it really didn't. Saying something appeals to the mindless masses doesn't mean that's the only people who it appeals to. It's always nice when people choose to tell you what you mean and all but you obviously have no clue.
GTA V did this too btw. They just toned down the stories and threw in a lot of violence (unnecessary torture scene) and the mindless masses loved that too.
Sorry if it offends you when I call it.
@saintayu Maybe you should take a walk outside the world of Nintendo and realise there are incredible games on other platforms out there. I've only played a few hours of RDR2 so far and it's quality is more than apparent. I get if it's not for you then fine, but to just say it's mindless idiots that buy these games is more than ignorant. Maybe it's a hipster thing to go against something popular thats undoubtledly brilliant or taking offence to an incredible game on Nintendo's behalf because of fanboy reasons or maybe just the realisation that a Nintendo platform won't ever be getting games like RDR2 at any point. Well horses for courses right?
I wish Red Dead could have been ported to switch. It sucks not being able to play it on the go.
@saintayu I’m with @NewAdvent the implication is that if you like rockstar games you are mindless is pretty obvious. If you throw out a statement at least have the courage to stand by it and not gaslight someone when they call you on it.
Well deserved
@saintayu Come on... now you’re acting exactly like the anti-Nintendo trolls that come on here. People have different tastes. Why call someone mindless for enjoying a game you don’t like?
@PlayedNSlayed well said. I liked
@NinjaWaddleDee I'd be happy with a remaster of the first one, being that's the only realistic request. RDR2 won't happen on Switch
Who didn't see RDR2 stomping into first place though, I mean c'mon partner.
Having played it through to act 3 , It isn't perfect (my perfect won't be yours etc) , but it is extremely polished, with an incredible amount of depth. I would agree with the point someone above said about it not looking so appealing if the old West isn't enough to peak your interest. but I do still think that anyone with an Xbox or PS4 should very strongly consider picking it up.
I would go as far as saying it's a piece of software that has had so much work put into it , over an 8 year or so development cycle , that I personally have only played one other game this generation that has similar depth and content, and that's the Witcher 3.
Next purchase for my switch is Diablo 3 , as I never played the necromancer on pc and fancied having a go on my commute. C'mon Friday
Mario Kart 7 still riding the UK chart waves... (almost) 7 years after release!
Good for RDR2. I played the first one and the Undead Nightmare expansion, and they were awesome. If I had the money, perhaps I'd buy RDR2 soon instead of waiting for a GotY edition like I'm planning to.
Besides, there's Hitman 2, Diablo III, Warriors Orochi 4, Civilization VI and Dark Souls Remastered already in my to get list... Winning the lottery would be awesome.
@PlayedNSlayed @BladedKnight @NewAdvent @Quarth @Mr_Pepperami I have a PS4 and you guys behave exactly like the Nintendo cult when someone implies that a massively successful game also has mindless followers who buy it because it's popular. That's really all I have to say.
It's no different with Pokémon or Halo or any other exclusive massively successful franchise. The fact you think I just think this about one game is your problem not mine. The fact that you all desperately want this to be a fan war is also your problem.
No one would have an issue if I said about it Fortnite, Final Fantasy, or COD. I've seen it many times here. You only care because it's your sacred cow game that everyone must like.
It's just a game guys.
@Powerballad
"...that I personally have only played one other game this generation that has similar depth and content, and that's the Witcher 3"
Yep, one thing I thought also. 100% with you on it not being perfect. But you can see the amount of care and work that went into it (just like W3)
Crash hang in there!
I mean, there are 9 Switch titles in the UK Individual Format Top 40, plus a 3DS game. None of the Switch games fell much and a number actually climbed. Breath of the Wild, a launch title, is still charting. Nintendo are doing just fine here.
@BladedKnight you really don't understand popularity do you?
It's literally impossible for you to grasp that if something is largely successful its because it appeals to the most people. To appeal to the most people, sacrifices are made.
Same thing happened to Hollywood too. If anything you should all stop being victims because no one said anything about you personally. I like Taylor Swift that doesn't make me one of the ton of other mindless people who also do. Stop playing the victim and enjoy what you enjoy.
@saintayu I agree,but then why not just say it's not for you? I have no interest in Pokemon or Smash so Nintendo have nothing for me till well into next year it seems on the first party front,but that's my criticism of Nintendo at the moment. But I wouldn't then proceed to say people that buy those games are the mindless masses
@saintayu
There’s nothing wrong with not liking a certain game. It’s how you express it, in an elitist way, calling people who enjoy this game mindless. It’s exactly the same thing as when the trolls come here to call us Nintendo fanboys and other dumb s**t, and I would react the same way if someone said the same stuff about people enjoying Halo or Fortnite (even though I don’t personally care about those games).
Edit: Edited out the first paragraph, as I misread your comment. Sorry.
@Quarth @PlayedNSlayed @ThomasS I stand by what I said. I wasn't personally calling anyone out. I've explained myself.
Meanwhile others are personally attacking me. It's the very definition of irony.
Basically its OK to call me pathetic and elitist because I don't like your game but wrong of me to say anything? That's childish.
Good on Rockstar for having another success. While I have no intention on getting the game cuz It's not for me, may its fans have fun with it.
@saintayu I said your comment was elitist. That’s not a personal attack. Calling people mindless IS an elitist stance. You are allowed to think so, of course, but it doesn’t make you look like the good guy here.
I haven’t played RDR2. It looks cool. Not everyone has to like it. But do you think it’s fair to call people mindless for playing and enjoying it?
Any chance this site could do its job properly and post the Top 40 like other sites do? Or how about doing some research and noticing the fact that Starlink and Dark Souls have disappeared from the charts completely after only 1 week? It's pee poor journalism. Going further, about half the games in the charts aren't on Switch. It's crap like this that reaffirms why I don't come to this site that often.
Red Dead is a great immersive game. If you can pry yourself away from the completely original, ground breaking games that are designed for only the most selective gamers such as Mario party, Mario Tennis and countless old ports, you should pick it up.
The real story here is how Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy remains in the UK top ten. What continues to drive the sales? Is there just that much passion for Crash? I mean really, of all the games on the market today...
@Face If you mean full of shovelware then yes I agree.
@saintayu never have I seen a more obnoxious, arrogant and elitist comment. You are the personification of everything that is wrong with the Nintendo fanbase, and the reason we all get labelled as fanboys.
Funnily enough, I almost guarentee that you would not be making such stupid comments if the Switch was actually capable of running games as visually intensive as RDR2.
Red Dead Redemption 2 looks great, I thought the original was the best game Rockstar ever put out. I'll patiently wait for this to come to PC though, I have plenty of other games to play right now.
None of those other multi platform games are for me, though. I've been tired of Assassin's Creed and Call of Duty for a few years.
Those trolls should get a move on & port RDR2 to PC already. PC + Ninty is gold for me because this combo allows me to play everything I have an interest in.
Not being able to play RDR2, however, is pretty annoying. It's literally the first and only game that I hate to miss. I'm not gonna buy an entire console for this one game, so please R*. Serve the crowd that made you what you are to begin with.
It’s a good thing I have ps4 and a switch
Crash Bandicoot is still in the top 10? Jeeeez, you would think it was a new game with a ton of innovation or something for this longevity of popularity.
Very impressive debut for Red Dead Redemption 2. ~600,000 retail copies sold in the UK. Probably 750,000+ including digital sales.
It's a paltry figure compared to GTAV, but what isn't...?
@Mogster I literally own a PC, a surface and a PS4. And the a Switch mostly for on the go play.
You are a perfect example of people personally attacking me when I made a statement that could literally be applied to any popular thing. Thanks for being kind enough to supply that example and have a nice day.
@saintayu I'm not a fan of GTA at all, and like you I don't see the hype of it other than a mindless appeal to the lowest common denominator. But that doesn't mean other games from them are exactly that. L.A. Noire is deeply flawed yet very unique and excellently done for what it is. Sure that wasn't all Rockstar, they just assisted Team Bondi, but the Rockstar involvement isn't nothing. RDR2 is a fine product with much more to it than "appealing to the lowest common denominator" as GTA does. It's also flawed. The world, the detail, the dynamic interaction is fantastic. The exploration and environment is great. The controls are close to disastrous. The shooting is bland. I said on another thread, I'd consider it an excellent "interactive entertainment experience" more than a video game however. I don't see that as inherently bad though. So far there's a lot less "video game" and a lot more "living in the environment" to it. It's a different type of product. And it's cool, but it's not perfect, and it can't or shouldn't be directly compared to traditional video games, just as Switch shouldn't be compared to a traditional console. I spent some hours and really enjoyed it. But I also dropped into some Nier Automata, Starlink, and Souls for some traditional video game fix.
Rockstar games are one of the few that still truly shine best on PC. In the last I've spent much longer playing around modding GTA than I ever have playing it. So in this rare occasion I'm going to hold out and see if it ever comes around on PC although it really looks great on a one X. As for Nintendo... I'm not interested in smash or Pokémon so I might be waiting a while for anything outside of the constant flow of great indies
Between this, a lamer than I could ever fear lineup from the PSOne Classic - so much for a "SNES Mini killer" there - and the rampant idiocy of the more rabid Waluigi fans, it's not been a good day.
And yet all the leading games will drop off the charts in a couple months while Nintendo's stays near the top. It's the usual. This article is completely misleading.
@Dirty0814 how did it mislead you?
Nintendo didn't take a beating. Just because their game wasn't in The top three isn't a beating. It reads as if Nintendo made crappy games and they did crappy when that is not the case at all.
Of course games that sell on PC, PS4 and Xbone will outsell games only on Switch...
Havent played red dead but looks like it worth it.... Well played Sony. Now Nintendo needs to up her game as well.
@Dirty0814 why dont you reread the title again, it says Nintendo’s UK CHART PRESENCE takes a beating. Not Nintendo, not the quality of their games but their CHART PRESENCE
Which emplies exactly what I said
@Dirty0814 why and how?
Dude seriously? You must be a troll. I summed it up and so did @Heavyarms55 very nicely I might add but that is no beating. The article and headline especially is very misleading. To place 7th with a game on a console that doesn't even have 20 mil sold yet and is a exclusive is a great feat compared to Rdr that is on 3 platforms.
When you consider better games by sales you need to consider how many people can even access the content. For them to get 7th with Mario party is a hell of a lot better accomplishment then throwing out a game that takes first on multiple platforms. Yes Red looks good and I will probably play it, but like almost all games I will wait until it drops in price because unlike Nintendo games all other systems saturate the markets and their products become worthless very fast.
RDR2 is magnificent. Rockstar had set a new benchmark. This is the type of game i expect from next gen consoles - ps5 and xbox 2 x.
Red Dead 2 is really something. It deserves every bit of praise that it is getting. Some really awe inspiring moments looking out at the sprawling landscapes.
It helps that I have always loved stories set in the wild, wild west. (Except Wild Wild West, don't like that one)
@Knuckles-Fajita You got 1 thumbs down but 4 hearts, does that nullify the thumbs down? 😂
I knew this thread would be the best place to see the 5+ in action.
