It's Saturday (unless you're reading in this in the future, of course) which means that it's time for yet another weekend Talking Point. As always, we've rounded up various members of the Nintendo Life team and forc- *ahem*... kindly asked them to share their weekend plans, so make sure to give them a read before getting involved with our poll and comment sections below. Enjoy!

This weekend, I’m actually headed out to London for a gaming meetup with friends, so I’ll be once again admiring my Switch’s portable capabilities in airports, planes and trains. I’ve got a friend with me, so it’ll likely be some good old fashioned Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Smash Ultimate and Splatoon 2. Maybe even a little two-player Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu!. I’m sure we’ll either annoy the heck out of the other passengers on our flight across the pond or start some cool aeroplane-wide Mario Kart tournament with everyone else - who knows!

Intentionally avoiding the horrors of a certain classic remake (because I’m a massive wuss and can’t be playing that kind of malarkey at the moment), I’m delving into a wonderfully wacky world I’ve had my eye on for quite some time: Pikuniku. Trying to stay away from footage and reviews as much as possible (apart from our handsome talisman Alex’s video) it’s as if George Orwell made a Mr Men game and I absolutely adore it.
It actually inspired me to revisit a Switch launch game - Snipperclips. Of course, the co-op and competitive multiplayer are hilariously brilliant, but I again appreciate the single player with its charm, moments of methodical thinking and fun puzzle solving.

This weekend I'll be returning to a platforming gem almost no one seems to remember from the sixth gen, Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy. It's been given an HD makeover and it's headed to Switch so of course I'm going to see if it's got what it takes to live again in a new era of consoles. I'll also likely doing be doing my usual thing of flitting between Warframe and Paladins because, presumably, I'm only truly happy when I'm shooting things to death in a game!

This weekend looks like it might be a pretty busy, time-consuming one for me, so my gaming time might be sadly limited. Having said that, I'm sure my recent rediscovered love for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will make an appearance at some point - I've never really played Mario Kart online before, as I don't tend to like playing anything online really, but I've been enjoying the added tension that actual, real-life humans can provide. I need to get out more, I know.
Elsewhere, I still haven't found the time to play GRIS, despite the fact that it's been sitting on my console for over a month now. Hopefully I can get a little bit of time to start that soon as I've only heard wonderful things.

Earlier this week I bought Mutant Mudds Collection, Xeodrifter and Soccer Slammers in the Atooi sale on the Switch eShop. So this weekend my plan is to play them all. Mutant Mudds is a game I’ve been meaning to revisit for a long time to try out the additional modes Super Challenge and Mudd Blocks. When I’m not playing either of these, I’ll be spending time in the Metroid-inspired game Xeodrifter, while trying to come to terms with the fact the development of Metroid Prime 4 has been reset.

Moe weekend! It will be all about Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes for me; I welcome all this Suda51 insanity with a passion and despite knowing full well no one will remember the game by the year’s end, I am certain this is one of the 2019 Switch GOTY candidates. Elsewhere a bit of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and as much as I can possibly fit into Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition. Hmm, I got a bit of the sniffles... hopefully not the G Virus.
My game of the week goes to Pikuniku! What a delightful, minimalist journey where a flying kick solves most issues. If only real life were this simple...

This weekend I shall be mostly playing Downwell, OlliOlli: Switch Stance and When Ski Lifts Go Wrong, all for your reading pleasure over the coming week(s). It would be nice to make a dent in the backlog, too - Dark Souls Remastered isn’t going to play itself! - but I’ll also be knee-deep in IKEA furniture, so most of my time will be spent spinning teeny Allen keys and shooing cats out of empty packaging.
Don’t feel too sorry for me, though. Without wanting to spoil anything, that Downwell is still per-ritty good.

Smash Ultimate WoL(NG+) and Valkria Chronicles.
It's going to be Dark Souls again. Once it gets its hooks into you, that is one compelling game. Reached the bottom of Blighttown, and am now wading through a toxic swamp. There's no better way to spend a January weekend, right?
Still playing Smash. Can't get enough of online competitive. Learning how to play Ridley.
I’m about halfway through Mario & Rabbids.
I’m meeting some friends for a curry tonight and probably won’t take my Switch. I’ll likely play some Advance Wars to build the anticipation for Wargroove
Donkey Kong Country: Havent played this in quite a few years so will try and do a run through this weekend.
Smash: Still trying to learn how to play some of the heavier fighters. I normally use Toon Link and Roy so its a nice change.
Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival: My daughter loves to play this so will play a few games as she has been saying all week shed like to this weekend. Love playing games with her.
Cursed Castilla Ex - I'm really enjoying it. I feel like I'm playing a 16bit classic I missed back in the day. It's tough but never frustrating due to regular checkpoints and unlimited continues.
Rocket League - I've started playing this again after a long break. I only stopped playing it because it became so difficult to find a match. On recommended settings I'm relying on SE Asia players and there didn't seem to much of them at anytime of day. Since PS4 Cross play has been added though it's been much easier.
Splatoon 2 - As always, can't get enough of it. My good run of form last week has continued into this week and I'm now at my highest ranks across all 4 modes. Clam Blitz is just fantastic.
Thoroughly enjoying Mad Max at the moment and might do some Dead Cells runs as well.
For me it will be, Octopath travlers what an amazing game,
A little Hollow knight,
And with the wife nsmbud!
Am really looking forward to playing Pikuniku! It looks wonderful. Also... Binding Of Isaac. I finally managed to unlock The Forgotten (such a fraught experience!), and, man, that character is a complete game changer. He plays so differently to the others... it is a complete delight. So I will be enjoying those, while tinkering with my new toy, the Lost Vape Paranormal DNA 250C! Not sure if there are any other vapers here... but it is amazing. Expensive, but incredible so far. Hope you all have a lovely weekend!
This week is PS4 time. 🤓
1. Portal Knights (PS4)

Long time no play the PS4 version. I have managed the journey until reached Second Boss, Queen Dragon.
2. Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age (PS4)

Continue the story progress after finishing Mob Hunt for Rogue Tomato. While waiting for Switch version, i tried to play the PS4 version.
I haven't touched my PS4 for several months last time due to my negativity with Sony that still felt in my heart, but i have tried to forget my silly restrictions by playing my PS4 without any negative feeling. And.... No more PS4 games that i will eliminate. I decided to keep all of them, even i have to Double dip with Switch version. 😉
Oh, i still Love Nintendo. But, i still have to take care with all my purchased machines both Nintendo and Sony.
In between fits of crying over MP4, i'll be playing Fire Embem Fates and Resident Evil.
@Krull Good luck with Quelaag.
Big gaming weekend for me so far (it's already Saturday night in Korea).
Pikuniku: Just started it. It is so colorful and charming! I've already laughed out loud a few times. This is a good one!
Rime: Finished this one up, and went back in to knock out the few achievements I was missing. It's possible this game was terrible pre-patch (I don't know, I bought it on sale well after the patch), but I thought it was fantastic! This one is gonna stick with me for a long time.
Rocket League: Played a bit online and got thoroughly destroyed. I need to get my skills back up.
Snipperclips: As mentioned in the article, Pikuniku also made me want to go back to Snipperclips. It's a bit different experience, but still very fun!
South Park: TFBW: Moved along a bit in the story, but decided to take a break in favor of other games for now. Not really in a South Park mood at the moment.
Stardew Valley: This will be the bulk of my weekend right here. The recent update got me back into it, and I'm tantalizingly close to accomplishing literally everything you can do in the game. My one missing artifact is killing me though!
I bought My time at Portia on Steam last week and I really recommend it when it releases on Switch, it's adorable. Still need some polishing though.
Otherwise I'll continue with Xenoblade Chronicles 2, recently bought Torna to motivate myself to finally finish the main game.
And some Splatoon 2 with a friend 🙂
Smash ultimate and Travis strikes back for me it’s nowhere near as bad as some reviews make out it’s just a bit insane but in a good way
Nearing the end of Forgotton Anne. Still grinding in Everspace. Probably a few matches in Rocket League.
Bomb Jack for me. Such a perfect little arcade game.
RE2. Amazing. RE8 must use this engine and over the shoulder view. KH3 out next week. January is normally a slow month for decent new releases.
I was on my way to buy Resident Evil 2, hence my avatar but I saw a good deal on Smash and bought that instead so I'm playing a lot of Smash and its even better than I thought it would be. I'm still playing a bit of Resident Evil 2 but the original PlayStation version 😁
Playing Travis Strikes Again, it is great arcade style fun, does not take itself too seriously and is far better than I thought it would be. Also will try and start Grim Fandango which I picked up for a bargain £3 a few weeks ago.
Collectables on travis
Sonic 1 ring challenge. Already no1 but there's room for mass improvement!
Pikmin 2 for the Wii. Smash.
Yakuza 0 for me. Currently at the beginning of Chapter 9. I really want to knuckle down and finish this soon as this year is all about my backlog. Want to finish as many games as possible before buying more.
@Krull just finished Dark Souls. Great game indeed.
Now starting a new monk for D3 season 16. Will play some SSBU and still need to start Starlink too.
Tales of Vesperia is also still in my thought to buy but probably wait for news on when/if DQ11/ Persona5 will come to Switch before i buy another time sink.
@StormtheFrontier Quelaag was not too bad. Kalameet is my nemisis. Gosh what do i hate that dragon!
Resident Evil 2, and Shaq Fu - I know, my taste is all over the place.
Tales of Vesperia, I guess. And Travis Strikes Again.
Windows Phone:
Minesweeper - Always a fun distraction.
Angry Birds Seasons - Now playing the Valentines levels and they are a blast.
Game Boy:
Pokémon Red Version - Finally resumed progress after taking a break. I'm currently in Fushia City getting ready to take on Koga for my 5th badge.
GRIS has been my lie-in game for the last couple of weekends since Devolver gave it their 15% discount for owning one of their other titles. Not a lot going on gameplay wise but with headphones on and emotions primed, it's a beautiful way to ease into the day.
@Anti-Matter why do you feel the need to post the box art, for every game you play ? every week, its getting a bit boring now.
Smash/Splatoon 2/Outrun methinks...
Diablo 3. new season called for my attention again! Trying a barbarian first time ever!
I'll be trying to get a few more gold medals in Horizon Chase Turbo, so that I can unlock Greece.
Going for badge number seven in Pokemon LG Eevee.
And I plan to get back to Civilization VI soon.
But since my kid just stole my Switch right out from under my nose, and I have nowhere to go this morning, I think I'll start the day with a Godzilla movie - probably Final Wars.
Finally digging into Dark Souls and the game is really getting under my skin. I’ll be heading to Skyrim and Hyrule for respite from the gloom and to scratch my open-world itch. I’ll also continue working on Marker Dell Farm in Stardew Valley. Happy gaming to one and all!
I’m almost at the end of World of Final Fantasy Maxima, so I’m hoping to finish that this weekend. Once that’s done, I want to start a seasonal character in Diablo III, and start playing through Crystalis in the SNK 40th Anniversary Collection.
Smash on Switch, and Spidey on ps4. Nintendo really needs more top-tier story-based single-player games. I don't count Mario or Bayonetta in that category, as the focus isn't really on story. Zelda and Xenoblade are probably the only two Switch exclusives I can think of in that category, whereas Sony has loads of games like that.
Nearly got all the spirits now, 80-ish left.
really enjoying mario kart online and smash.just started bayonetta 2.it's so great 😅😅😅☺
So far I've been playing through Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright and the Sega Mega Drive Classics on Switch, along with some Overwatch on PC. Will prob continue to play those tomorrow, along with maybe some Hyrule Warriors: DE, and/or Bayonetta 1/2.
Going bowling so will try mario kart vr
Finished yesterday Twilight Princess (what a masterpiece! Don't really get why people crap on it so much) and started skyward sword (well with this one I totally understand the complains. It is handholding to the infinite and beyond and all the damm puzzles are solely around wiggling the remote in strange factions).
Also playing a bit o Vesperia but it is not cooking with me and I should trade it soon
Metroid prime 4 followed by some monster hunter GU
Earthbound! That game amuses me to no end.
Having beat onimusha earlier this week , I can focus on wind waker hd. And of course a couple rounds of smash
Aside from Puyo, probably a good few rounds of Ultimate and diving into Broken Age. Possibly 100% completion of Nefarious, I believe that only one level and 4 crowns are left.
That being said, where is the Nefarious review? It has been out for a while and more people should know about it while it’s still at $5.
I'm hoping to finish Super Paper Mario on my Wii U (via Wii Mode) this weekend. After some prep, I'll be tackling the final chapter.
On the 3DS front, Majora's Mask 3D has taken a slight backseat until I finish the above. I've still put off doing the Great Bay Temple and spent my limited time with it this past week doing more extras. I'm even debating about finally finishing a certain famous long quest for realsies this time....
Have to put my Nintendo down as Resident evil 2 remake has finally come out after so many years of wanting.
Dont worry Nintendo I'll be buying RE4 for the 5th time once CAPCOM release it
Got Bettle Adventure Racing in the post today. Plays great on my old NTSC N64
Doubt I’ll get to play much, but perhaps some Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and/or Total Extreme Wrestling 2016 (PC).
Probably some Binding of Isaac and Ultimate Chicken Horse.
I picked up Gunman Clive HD Collection (basically cowboy Mega Man, very fun so far), as well as Cave Story + (it was half off and I’ve heard good things; need to play more before developing an opinion), so I’ll be playing those. Of course more Smash; I’m trying to get every single Spirit and challenge. Maybe some Splatoon online!
Everyone have an amazing, safe, and God-blessed weekend! 😃
Just Dance 2017 with the little one STILL. That game has turned out to be really good entertainment value. For me, MARIO U which is a bit frustrating but still fun. Gris , need to get past a bit I’m stuck on. Maaaaybe an Owl Boy sesh, get through the stupid dark tunnel bit ...one day....
I am completely obsessed with Hollow Knight right now. Just defeated the Watcher Knights and boy that boss fight was difficult. Amazing game.
Finally getting into Tales of Vesperia! It holds up surprisingly well and I never thought I would say this but I super appreciate the old school fixed camera angles in ToV because using the right thumb stick on the Switch is a chore.
I tried Diablo again because of the seasonal thing but it just isn't a game for me. Maybe if I was playing with friends and a headset it would be fun but maybe that's for the best, I have too many games to play as it is.
Taking a break from Final Fantasy XIV, so I'll be focusing more on Secret of Evermore.
Xenoblade 2 and Joggernauts (hopefully the 2nd one doesn't suck)
This weekend, I plan to play more Pokemon Let's Go Eevee, and hopefully squeeze in some Tokyo Mirage Sessions if I can, want to progress further in them. Also, might play some Sonic Battle, yes, I still play my GBA games and I like playing the arcade-style Challenge Mode.
Okami for me. First time playing it and enjoying it greatly.
Tales of Vesperia, think I am nearing the halfway mark of the main story. Great game looks amazing on the switch
Playing Wargroove for 2 days already, will keep on playing for the weekend. This game wasn't just 'inspired' by Advance War, it took so much from Fire Emblem as well... some people said copying is the most sincere form of flattery, I wondered how Intelligent Systems feel about this? Why is Nintendo OK with someone stealing their idea?
@DockEllisD how is it? bought it but haven't played it yet
Finally started Banner Saga. Must admit I wasn't sure about it at first, but now I'm about halfway through Vol 1 and I am absolutely hooked and loving it.
The first chunk of free DLC for Marble It Up! just came out, so I'll definitely be playing that. Fantastic game.
@sketchturner ow! Cool!
Usual mixture of Smash and Phantasy Star IV for me! I'm getting pretty decent in online as my GSP steadily rises, so perhaps my dreams of getting Ike into Elite Smash aren't completely impossible! Likewise, I'll be doing some grinding in Phantasy Star since I've reached the infamous Lashiec boss fight and I've learned that I'm apparently quite under leveled. Hopefully I can catch up soon and continue with the story, because Phantasy Star really is an enjoyable, engaging experience.
I’m thinking about purchasing the salt and the sanctuary
Finished Red Dead 2 this week, so I’m finishing Okami and Enter the Gungeon
Civilization VI. So addictive once you get into it. Got the science victory with rome on true earth map. Going for culture with greece this time. Probably play my MAME arcade when I have spare time.
@DockEllisD yeah... I've bought it before almost 1 year now... almost immediately after the launch...
Oh that's great to hear! I loved I am Setsuna, especially the story! Look forward to play it... when I get to it ugh... It is still even packed in plastic lol...
I’m thinking some Gunman Clive, Desert Child and probably more Snowboarding the next phase!
I’m interested in that SmuggleCraft Game that cane out but i can’t find any reviews for the Saitcg version. Anyone in here buy it?
I just finished South Park TFBW so I’m not sure what I’m going to start. I’ve been taking care of my backlog so I’m thinking Wandersong, Owlboy, or Mario/ Rabbids. Hmm... choices choices...
Am playing Kirby's Adventure Wii (aka Kirby's Return to Dreamland). Awesome game, I actually prefer it to Epic Yarn and New Super Mario Bros Wii. Copy abilities are great in the game and challenges are cool too.
@beazlen1 I've always thought about getting Beetle Adventure Racing, it looks really unique for a racing game. How are you finding it?
I completed 2 great games this week (Gunman Clive and Moonlighter) and am at the final boss of another in Severed currently. I will continue to move through my backlog and most likely move on to West of Loathing or Axiom Verge next which I got both on sale several months ago and their icons stare at me every time I check out the home screen.
Side note - Moonlighter is a game that should be played by all and I cannot recommend it enough. Zelda (2D) style dungeon crawling and then a shop management sim to sell your loot when you come back. The loop / hook is amazing and I could not put it down. Solid 9/10 in my book!
Mario deluxe and Shante pirates curse
Super Smash Bros Ultimate and SNK 40th Anniversary Collection.
@Medic_alert I’ve been on the fence about Celeste for awhile now. The game seems to be getting rave reviews but when I look at it it’s just a little jumping platformer like I’ve played on my phone. Maybe when it goes on sale I’ll give it a try.
Still going through Dragon Quest VIII.
I just wrapped up the stuff in the snowy region,
so I think I'm making good progress.
Swords and Soldiers on the Switch mostly. Just bought it and hope it's works and plays as good as on the Wii.
I will also get a couple of Fortnite games in and play a bit of Animal Crossing New Leaf on the 3DS.
@Medic_alert Don't bother, he's a troll.
Mutant League Football, Dynasty mode ahoy! 9-0 so far. Also some TSA, because I love that universe, and am quite enjoying the game.
More XB1, hopefully next week has a Direct.
Tales of Vesperia, New Mario Bros and Ittle Dew 2+. I am sick this weekend, so it is time to play many many hours
Skyforce anniversary and skyforce reloaded on xbox1. Plus need to plug my Wii U back in. Need a Metroid Prime fit. Come on Nintendo, give us some good news and announce the prime trilogy.
@klingki I 100%d Stardew last week, similarly I was waiting on the final artifact for a long time. It was in town where there seems to be fewer possible spots. In the end I used a reset method I saw on a forum (find spot(s) in an area, hoe, if it’s not what you want then reset the game and ignore them for that day, next day try same spot(s) again and they will have different items, repeat if required). Also it’s handy to have the tracker perk if you don’t already. Happy hunting!
@wazlon well so far Beetle Adventure Racing seems really good but I’m only a few hours in. Courses all have their own unique style. Handling is tight and game is quite forgiving and arcade like. Sensation of speed is good and the AI seem challenging. Haven’t tried multiplayer yet. Memory Pak battery just died so gotta replace that before I put more time in but from my short time with it I recommend it
Been playing some FIFA19 and Cities Skyline. Gonna try When Ski Lifts Go Wrong as I'm skiing almost every day (mostly cross-country though), but the thought of Ski Lifts going wrong in real life is kind of horrifying. It does happen :/
Anthem Demo, Ace Combat 7 and finally going to start Chasm on the switch!
A bit of mario oddessey (a word I think I spell differently every time). Probably a couple of runs on Enter the Gungeon too. And I've been playing a horribly addictive puzzler on ipad called Kamiko as well so a little bit of that
Travis, Smash, Bowsers Inside Story, NSMBUDX and Tumblestone. I'm embarrassed to say which one I enjoy the most 😁😉
DOOM. Still trying to beat it on Ultra Violence mode. Maybe a bit of Mario Kart if I get a chance, God knows I need some joy. Have a nice weekend all
Playing killer instinct and resident evil one on the Xbox x, and gunman Clive, out run and nsmbdx for the switch.
1. AceCombat7
2. ANTHEM Demo
3. Legrand Legacy (Switch)
Octopath Traveler.
@beazlen1 Thanks, will remember to get a new battery for my memory pack too if I buy it.
I want to get in on the Anthem demo, but I don't have a VIP friend code. I'll probably wait until the open beta next weekend. I always fit a few matches on NBA 2k19 in. I might put a few hours into Red Dead Redemption 2 and Horizon Zero Dawn; sometimes, I'm too tired from the work week to focus on lengthy games. And, I'm slowly chipping away at Tales of Vesperia for Switch and Fire Emblem on 3DS.
@Glitchling78 Yeah, I’ve got the tracker profession, and I’ve been trying to avoid the reset method, though I might resort to it if i really have to. My missing artifact is supposed to spawn in the mountains or forest, so I get a lot of spots, it just hasn’t come up yet.
@Medic_alert
It's leaked a few days ago.
My advise to anyone planning to play Wargroove:
1. Turned off the voice.
2. Turn off fighting animations.
3. Set handheld mode to 'full'.
4. Set 'show health bar' instead of number.
While the voice is not as bad as Tiny Metal, it's still makes me cringe. They want to imitate FE's grunting, sneering soundbites but it's not done very well. Best to just turn off the volume entirely.
@JohnnyC it may not be exclusive, but I'd say Okami HD. The Joy-Con controls are perfect for it and make it super fun to play.
Completely agree that there are top-tier story-driven games on the Switch which aren't exclusive. Nintendo just need to develop a few more that are exclusive.
I sat down for a few hours of RE2 (PS4) last night - holy crap, they did such a terrific job so far!
Today, I played a bit of Okami HD (LOVE playing this on Switch - everything controls so smoothly, the joy-con pointer works so well for the celestial brush - even better than the Wii - and the HD rumble adds some nice touches, it's like I'm playing it for the first time, again!), Hollow Knight (no further progress made, probably shouldn't have ventured off to Deep Nest lol), and Subnautica (PS4). I'll probably be playing some Smash or more RE2 depending on present company.
Smash Ultimate, Watch_Dogs 2 & Octopath Traveler are my main games this weekend.
The first Mafia on PC.
Still doing some Spirit Board (especially with another event going on), gradually solving cases in L.A. Noire (might actually wrap it up by May when FFXII lands - recent news sound like I'll need the space)... oh, and it looks like I'm past the Companions quest line in Skyrim now. The last dungeon took me all the way to the northern shores where I have never been, and those are interesting places. Especially when you've found a helmet of water breathing elsewhere.
Also grabbed a bunch of indies on a recent sale (all small enough to check them out in one batch) and spent a particular amount of time on Vertical Drop Heroes, Frost and Bleed. VDH is obviously the kind of roguelite I appreciate, with a clear and almost advertised focus on permanent unlocks; Frost is solemn and "easy to learn, hard to master" as they say (frankly, I've yet to finish a single playthrough successfully) and Bleed is a dynamic run'n'gun with a very lovable protagonist.
Oh yeah, and my subway rides continue to be a Tales of Destiny training ground, grinding up a few more levels for what looks like the endgame. But that's a black flag territory (PS Store is clueless about the game even in the US... man, would it be different now if PSP Go had substantially caught on back then?).
stardew valley
Ended up playing more Outrun than I anticipated, played a little Smash but felt really rusty as I haven't touched it since Xmas, played a round on NES Open and gave Ninja Gaiden a little spin...
Pikuniku for me.
