When My Time at Portia was first released on the Switch, the loading times were incredibly painful to endure. The game took multiple minutes to boot up, load a file and enter the game world. Exiting and entering houses was even a hassle. Fortunately, Team 17 and its developer Pathea Games have been working around the clock to improve the performance of the Switch version.
While the previous update sped up the load times and overall performance, the game still struggles and is a tad sluggish at times. In the hope of making the overall experience a little more enjoyable, a new update has now been released. It includes a performance improvement for input lag and sturring, a fix for the "infinite loading" issue and various bug and crash fixes.
It's not just a bandaid fix, either. There's also new story content and side quests to check out. More in-game features have been added as well, including birthdays, family features, new clothing, new character customisation and new ruins to mine.
You can view the long list of patch notes over on the official game page.

Still chillin' on the wish-list.
I really wanted this game. The only thing keeping me away from it has been the bugs. I am one step closer to buying this now.
Alright time to dive back in.
Still needs a lot of work. Loading the game is poor, screen tears still creep in. Gameplay pause loads occasionally. Better, but still a mess.
Will keep an eye on developments. Glad did not buy day one.
I’ve just tried this out, there are caveats.
Load times between buildings, and initial load are both still long. Menus are snappier while in them (THANK GOD) but when closing them there’s a new animation which causes the game to freeze for a couple of seconds. This freeze didn’t seem to happen to me when speaking to people which is a boon.
Speaking of speaking to people, the Django recipe bug that completely froze the game seems to have been fixed.
There are new animations and sound effects which is nice. No grass still but I fear the game wouldn’t be able to handle that anyway.
There’s plenty of new quests which is nice.
The horse is still janky to get on however the camera pulls back to give you a bigger view while you’re riding. This is better however there’s noticeable frame stuttering now which I guess is a result of having to show more stuff.
One major thing added is a notification showing how much EXP you get for basic tasks like crafting and chopping trees. I had no idea that chopping down trees gave so much experience!
I’d say it’s an improvement but it’s still not right. I would’ve been happy to not have as many additions so long as performance was perfect.
Edit: more bugs appeared, see comment below.
I haven't played yet since the update, so I can't remark yet on the improvements. I love the game, but performance wise it's a real struggle on the Switch. Hope this update fixes things.
Got it day one and have loved it. The stuff listed on the patch, just makes me want to play it more. Keep the updates coming.
I've waited for the physical version, so I haven't played it yet. Waiting for it to come in the mail soon. I'm glad I waited since patches and new content has been added.
Nice, I finished the current content a few days ago so was waiting for the endgame content to arrive! Hopefully most of the game crashing bugs have been squashed. I don't mind it crashing, it's more that I'll be putting aside another 5-10 minutes to get back into the game since it needs to do its first time load again.
It is a great game. I had never even heard of it until it launched on the Switch. I never really experienced major glitches or problems with it and have finished the main storyline (or thereabouts). Have enjoyed “my time at Portia” (so much in fact, that it has been hard to put it down at times). The only bad thing has been the excruciatingly long load times when first starting up the game (although once into the game, the load times have been decent). Hope this update can successfully iron out the wrinkles that other people have experienced on the Switch.
I just picked up the physical version the other day. I'm very glad to hear this. Hopefully my experience with the load times wont be as bad as I've heard
The patch would have been perfect if they fixed the inventory lag. Still enjoying it though and the added QoL improvements help a lot - especially the new Game Speed which allows you to change how quick a day progresses.
UMM... NO.
My game has gone from incomplete and buggy to unplayable.
Every time I try to gift something to a character, my screen freezes on the gifted character and I lose control of my own avatar. I can still see her moving on the map to the lower right of the screen, but I cannot play her. If by a miracle of random button pushing I manage to get out of it, she keeps walking around zombie-like in the gift-giving motion and all other interactions/activities for the day are rendered impossible.
You are reporting an improvement. Please update your article to reflect that the game has now been messed up completely.
Does the game perform better on PS4? I wanted it on switch but PS4 might be better to running it
I hate this trend of releasing games in such a broken state and just fixing them later.
No game has ever been perfect upon release, but now it's become acceptable to launch in a deeply mediocre state. That's the sad part.
@Kurusu hey sorry for being a noob how do you change the game speed on switch console? can't seems to figure it out.
I hadn’t touched it since launch do to the long load times and long delays to access menus so I played it today those problems are still there and now the frame rate is slower it skips frames all together.I wanted this to be good I really did as I loved Stardew Valley but I played that to death and I wanted a new experience.
Update for anyone who’s reading this and is considering getting it.
I continued playing and new bugs kept popping up, including a crash which made me lose over an hour (real time) of progress. I would not suggest picking this up.
@Divina Having the same thing happen to me and the game now crashes more than before the update.
