Re: Nintendo Of Europe Isn't Happy About Broken Street Dates

Filth_Element

I used to shop at a well known U.K. Indie store and was lucky enough to get God of War 3 very early as they sold me the promo copy. I'm not one to upload videos, not then it now so Sony wouldn't be any the wiser and at the time I felt thrilled at the idea I was one of the first few to play the game. Of course I would also be aware that if I did put up some videos on YouTube I would be giving away the rouse to Sony and I knew how lucky I was to be securing a promo peice that I would have been smarter than to do something like that.
GTA 4 came a day early from online retailer but hey that seems pretty common now, although received more late than I have early. But I've sworn off online now and only buy and bricks n mortar stores.

@Pupito sorry I just gotta pull you up on something. Your saying you don't think this is a subject worth debate anymore. Actually right now more than ever is a good time for this discussion. You mentiined you mainly play Nintendo 1st party games. Well then until you play games like Overwatch etc where when you are playing getting your arse handed to you and start thinking to yourself now are they better than me or have they spent more money than me? This isn't a good situation and it calls into question the value of buying a game and ignoring the paid for extras, some of us start to think well should I even by the base game at all? Yes we should be 'whining' and you can go back to your corner thanks.

Re: Wii U's Failure Is Responsible For Switch's Success, Says Reggie

Filth_Element

If only Nintendo could learn from their NES, SNES and N64 generations and sort out their stance on cartridges and the price they charge to 3rd party devs. That would ease the growing problem that is starting to rear its head in devs using smaller carts than their game requires. Nintendo's relationship with 3rd party devs has always been a sticky point and that's one lesson they refuse to learn. They always publicly say how much they want that 3rd party support but I have a feeling that secretly they really don't regard it very high in their priorities.
As for WiiU the dual screen copy the success of the DS was doomed idea, you couldn't use that screen separately unless you stayed in the same room and the games themselves quickly stopped using the gimmick. So we ended up with a massive controller that had a useless screen in which to look at my inventory...... 👍 I really really needed that in my life because the chore of pressing a button to access the inventory on the screen I was already looking at was becoming a modern gaming problem, am I right? 😉

Sweet downloading now. I was more than happy on my purchase of Shantae. I'm sure the quality of the game will justify the price. Hell if it's short I understand the hesitation but if it's short and great then I'm happy. Too many games in eShop that I just find uninspiring and boring.... cheaper yes but the games are meh!
If it's close to Aliens Infestation I'm gonna be happy this Halloween. What am I saying Mario is out very soon it's gonna be great end to October.

Re: Editorial: Nintendo's Surprising Fanbase is a Major Strength, Which Bodes Well for Switch

@ThomasBW84 Nice article! It's awesome that a video game company has that kind of resonance to soo many... I'd be interested to know what's the ages of you and your family. I grew up with Nintendo since I was knee high to a grasshopper but I still have no chance of convincing my mum to pick up a pad. She's in her 60's and the most I managed is a Wiimote.
I was telling someone who was in her 30's, just the other day, that I would be spending the wet weekend indoors playing a new game and their reply was "NO! That's for teenage boys..."
So I guess there still those kinds of attitudes around. Although the image of the gamer/geek has become more acceptable there are still old ways of thinking around.
Wish I could have chats to randoms about Mario and my surprise at how well Ubi used the license.... but sadly it's not the case.

Re: Talking Point: What Games Are You Playing This Weekend? - The Triumphant(?) Return

Filth_Element

SNES Mini playing through my first Final Fantasy ( don't judge me ) and me and the missus have been having fun on Kirby's Dream Course as she is quite good at it but I'm slightly better at stealing stars! 🤣
I finally picked up M+R on Switch so playing that at the moment with bouts of picross S inbetween. I've also been giving ARMS a bit more time recently and it's proving to be fun. And maybe just maybe depending on how the weekend pans out I may have time to further Samus' journey on the 3DS.... maybe.

You should have made the original 'review' a feature a written a whole new review now. I'm not bothering to reread and decipher the differences. I'll get a review elsewhere.

Re: The Mummy Demastered Comes Out on 24th October

@EXP you must have missed the 90's and all the weird movie video game tie-ins we had to suffer. And they were always late, very very late. Lol This game fits the mold perfectly actually, let's just hope it's one of those rare beasts a great game that we will always look back on saying why didn't they just not make it a movie tie-in game...

I've got my fingers crossed for this one.

Re: Here Are the Key Lessons that Nintendo Learned from the Wii U

Filth_Element

Nintendo do a lot of things brilliantly! They also however do some things extremely badly. My love of Nintendo has fluctuated over the years because there is always this stubbornness within the company to do it their way. It's lead to some awesome surprises over the years but also meant some crushing lows too. Nowadays I like that they decidedly choose to be different they are unique in a sometimes boring marketplace (I'm just referring to when the games market gets stale with samey games). I think the key word is innovation when it comes to Nintendo and so far the Switch is going really well. Hopefully over the next few years it'll go from strength to strength. Now I'm not saying that they have got everything right recently but they are doing exceedingly well at the moment and I'm enjoying all the positive buzz that seems to be continuing months after release. Pretty good time to be a Nintendo fan anyway! 😃

@SLIGEACH_EIRE the controllers don't take to long to get used to at all even with big hands. The Wii U however, that was crazy unergonomic (don't think that is actually a word)! My left hand used to cramp so bad! I avoid that thing at all costs. So did you include the Wii U Pro controller as a mandatory initial costing when you bought the Wii U, like you have done with the Pro controller on the Switch?

@Fake-E-Lee Yoshi's Island is stella! Funny though when I was a punk rock kid (still am just drop the kid part) it wasn't about being sad over nothing it was being angry at corporate greed/government/social injustices etc. are you sure you weren't one of those emo's.... 😳😋

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Switch and Third-Parties - Let's Be Realistic

Filth_Element

Wow so many on here seem to strangely Nintendo Only Club. I love Nintendo games and always will, I have kinda been just been using mine as a sister console to the PS4 games as last 2 generations. Over the years these consoles fought in the same space GameCube vs PS2 under the telly vying for attention. This generation is exciting for me because now the choice isnt FIFA on PS with superior graphics better audio and video as well as better gameplay against a passable Nintendo version.
Now the choice is FIFA at home only versus FIFA on the go as well as on the couch. And not only that but from all reports it's better than passable it plays really solid, yeah a graphical downgrade but for all intents gameplay wise just as good(missing a game mode but one which personally I don't find necessary in a sports sim).

Now from what I've watched on a variety of youtubers 2k is hella close to the other versions, like they realistically with the spec In mind got impressively far with the Switch. Just look at some PS4, Switch and PS3 comparisons that are out there not a bad effort at all! The reviews I've watched say it's perfectly playable at this point and are pretty happy with it barring some regrettable required patches yes, but come on it's 2017 this is a thing now.... it's not only existent on the Switch. (Btw I'm not a basketball fan and happy with Playgrounds at present so personally just going off youtubers and reviews☺️)

Anyway where was I?

Now we have DOOM looking pretty bloody good too, it makes me think "well yeah it'll look and play slightly better on my PS4...... but DOOM on the go!!! 😝👍)
At first I would have probably argued for opting for the superior version but nowadays the flexibility of my Switch and being able to continue some grinding or a level whilst on my lunch break is really winning me over. And again from current reports plays really well!

I don't play Nintendo because I'm adverse to certain types of games like some on here. I'm an adult and can decipher the difference between blood and guts in games vs reality. I play Nintendo because it's fun and almost always unique. But I'm gonna enjoy blowing aliens to little bits for an hour so whilst camping etc.

In fact that is deliriously exciting a prospect!! So colour me in the excitable camp. Gloom and doom be dammed!

Re: Shinji Mikami Thinks A Switch Version Of The Evil Within 2 Would Be "Interesting"

Filth_Element

Lol Evil Within wasn't very scary for me, got to a certain point and it felt more like run n gun action, with some stealth thrown in every now and then. I did enjoy the style and the characters (evil ones 😜) though. I'd be interested but depends on the game itself not so much the port....

Anyway the more the merrier happy to have more potential games in the library. Especially some variety as others have said it had felt like we have been sat at the kiddie table too long.

Re: First Impressions: Hell in a Handbasket - DOOM on Nintendo Switch

Filth_Element

Cannot wait for this game! 60fps be damned, if you wanna complain so hard about it go buy on pc or better yet a PS4 or X Bone which doesn't run at a solid 60fps but you can at least fool yourself into thinking it matters at that point....

I love the comments from ppl who try to belittle the Switches idiosyncraties when they have very little or no actual contact with the hardware... "I played my friends and the controllers were bad!" Yeah? Well when I play at friends on the X Bone I struggle as I'm used to my PS4 controller.
Once you've got yourself a unit then you can give us some feedback on what's required or what's bad with some authority but right now your just blowing hot air.

@RoomB31 hahah yes I've had experiences like that I used to live in Brisbane and the shop I went to there I would actively avoid one guy cause he was a total kno*. Lol so I know your pain. The guys at the local shop where I now live are great. But it's also the ease of preorders etc that I find I really get the satisfaction. Too many here and myself in the past have had problems online. I just like to talk to someone, maybe I'm just an old grumpy man and like things like they used to be...
