A while ago Battle Princess Madelyn achieved remarkable success on Kickstarter, ensuring that it'll come to the Switch and Wii U among various other systems. Now the Ghouls 'n Ghosts-style title has a shiny teaser trailer to showcase what it's all about.
Check it out below, along with some details from the press release.
- Story mode allows players to explore the vast world of Princess Madelyn - uncover the secrets of the kingdom and beyond.
- A 10 level Arcade mode for the action hungry old school game player - levels designed specifically for a fast action arcade experience.
- Join Madelyn on her quest of self-discovery as she helps others, and not just herself, to becomes a wiser more mature knight and to save her family and kingdom from the clutches of evil.
- An array of weaponry to choose from, each with its own unique abilities, which are also modified by the three different types of armor the player can receive on their way through the game.
- Meet many different characters as Madelyn builds a support system throughout the kingdom.
- Loads of ghouls, demons and bosses to crush on your way to becoming the kingdom’s most powerful defender.

It's looking rather promising, and it's a project with a rather nice backstory - you should check out our interview with Causal Bit Games to learn more.
Are you excited about this one on Switch and Wii U?

Cool trailer. I'll buy the Wii U version.
This is coming to Wii U? Our little Irish friend will be delighted.
This looks really good!
@Fuz Iv'e played a lot of this game, it genuinely looks amazing but has some issues at current. The control and movement isnt quite right, i hope it gets fixed. Cursed Castilla plays much better.
I am in. This looks amazing.
@YANDMAN - I'm Dan and I'm working with Casual Bit Games. Would you mind sharing with me what you felt was 'off', controls wise?
I want to be a Battle Princess when I grow up!
@Maxz
Me too says a thirty year old man.
Ooh, I like the cool, creepy aesthetic. I'll keep an eye on it for Wii U when it releases.
Cool. Always love retro-style games created with this level of love and passion, and ones inspired by Ghost 'n Goblins/ Ghouls 'n Ghosts are certainly favourites of mine.
I wonder who will get the title of "Last game on Wii U"? As far as I'm concerned, let's keep supporting the Wii U until there's a Switch revision.
It looks decent enough. Looking forward to reviews and first impressions.
There is still at least 4 months until this is released I'm sure any problems now will be resolved by then. This game looks really fun BTW I'm definitely looking forward to it.
looking forward to this game.
Definately getting this one.
Old school arcade mode... I'm in.
It looks very nice and I look forward to reading reviews. I like that the developers have decided to include a straightforward arcade mode to just play through levels, something Bloodstained is supposed to do too. If anyone involved with development sees this, I'd just like to mention here that a native Linux version at some point would be much appreciated. I'd be far more likely to buy in that case. I understand if it doesn't fit into the plans. I just wanted to put that out there.
I may buy for Wii U even though I will have a switch then. Wii is better for old school.
A day one purchase!! Looks awesome..
@sligeach_eire why not buy the switch version? We all know the reason you've been more cheery these least few days is because you now secretly own a switch 😂
I love the classic angle they went with this, and I'll definitely support this developer too!
Really nice! Looking forward to getting it on Switch.
This game is definitely looking awesome, especially since I've been craving for a new Ghosts 'n Goblins game for years (haven't played Ultimate Ghosts 'n Goblins).
I really hope the game lives up to the awesomeness of this teaser
Day one
If I had not already maxed out my Wii U with 300 download games, I'd get that version.
On Wii U you have more+cheaper external memory and a much better standard controller for 2D games.
Yes please!
Looks sweet I'll be keeping an eye on this one!
Hopefully this will be easier than Ghouls and Ghosts!
im in, being terrible at ghosts n goblins on commodore 64 is one of my earliest gaming memories and super ghouls is one of my all time favs. gimmie gimmie
Day friggin 1 across all consoles for me!! Capcom are you paying attention??!
I'd get it for the Nintendo Switch, but I don't have one, so PS4 for me. I wonder why it is that we haven't seen Madelyn lose her armor, and still fight while wearing her underwear in true Ghosts N Goblins Fashion.
"Girl Makaimura" is a must-buy. 90' nostalgia is so strong with this one.
This look great! Perfect for a handheld console. I still may get it for WiiU but im kinda torn right now.
You just can't stop the Wii U, baby!
@eripmav Yes absolutely, i intended to drop you guys a mail anyways. The movement speed in comparison to the fire speed feels wrong. Enemies spawn too quickly leaving you almost not quite enough time to react, especially when they are coming from both sieds. The fire rate is also just slightly too slow, again enemies are almost upon you before you can take them out. The other issue is the bright explosion graphics when killing enemies looks amazing but at the same time it masks the spawning of new enemies and they seem to just rush at you from nowhere. It feels hectic but for the wrong reasons. The timinbg between how everythign happens, movement, attack, enemy spawn to me at least all seems slightly off. I noticed this immediately when playing the first build, upon release of the latest build i was really intesrested to see what had changed, but all of these aspects feel exactly the same. My other issue is that on the first level the Knight that chaperones you does nothign but get in the way, he also hides the spawning of enemies, his involvement as a character other than being story focussed seems like a tacked on extra. His actual assist ability during play is minimal, his ability to mask enemies rushing toward you is high. I absolutely love this game and where its going, it feels like its so close to being a masterpiece but these things need adressing. If you go and play Cursed Castilla and feel how the movement timing differs in that game you might better understand my thoughts. I have put down and then gone back to Battle princess many times to see if it wasnt just me, but it still feels and plays the same. I backed it and applaud the efforts of everyone involved, i just hope this gets tightened up.
@eripmav See below.
@YoshiAngemon - because the main protagonist is based on the developer's daughter? It'd be a bit weird having that element in game, wouldn't it?
@YANDMAN Thank you ever so much, I've sent this across to the guys:)
@eripmav Well, she DOES lose her outer armor, but she wears white under armor, so visually, it's nothing to be ashamed of.
@YANDMAN - OK, Grandpa's AI is unfinished and will be fixed. The enemy spawn system will be heavily tweaked and adjusted prior to release. Right now, it's all about getting the core mechanics in place, with the adjustments and fine tuning coming later. Things will keep being changed, altered and adjusted right up till the very end - don't worry!
@YoshiAngemon Oh ya, but I meant like she's hardly going to run around in knickers and a bra.
@eripmav No problem, more than happy to help.
@eripmav @eripmav Ok cool, this sounds good. From that point of view i would say the core mechanics are surely in place? it just needs tightening together. I had faith that you couldnt make a game this impressive and not finish it correctly but itys just as the issues that concerned me from the beginning are still present it just made me wonder what and when was being altered.
@YoshiAngemon She's a little girl, not sure that is at all apt.
@YANDMAN Just remember - what you're playing is pre-alpha code. It's got to go through a huge amount of revision before release.
yep. ill be enjoying my super duper exclusive armor and weapons from being a backer.
ill have weapons and armor regular heroes wont have.
which makes me the better hero!
Looks and sounds like a great game. I'm really optimistic for this one.
I'll be going with the Switch version for portability reasons.

At 2:08 in the video, she loses her armor, and wears a white armor suit.
@eripmav Yeah i appreciate that, i just wanted to air my views about what i feel is wrong with it at this point.
@YoshiAngemon I know. But m saying is that she won’t go down to her underwear like Arthur.
