@Chibi_Manny ?? What. It's not the cartridge that rattles against the case... the circuit board inside the cartridge, rattles inside the cartridge case... surprised you're commenting this if you've used Switch games. If you hold a case or a cartridge and shake it, it's very obvious.
@-wc- Nice try, but the actual act of 'avoiding a game purely to make a statement about yourself' vs 'saying an opinion'. Not the same bud. But if you want to miss out on good games based on those principals - enjoy 😂
@RupeeClock It's about the level of challenge etc. that they are targeting with the set. The 18+ sets will generally be either more complicated, have a theme targeted to adults, or just be a lot of pieces - it differs. Not to say anyone can't build it, just that it's targeted to that audience.
@Gitface When I see that you're able to drive a car at 16 in the US, I am amazed lol. That said, it isn't a law that you can't build the LEGO set.. just a suggested target audience =P
@OorWullie If they put 17+ then someone would ask the question about 16. They have to set a number somewhere (if they intend to target certain age groups). It's not the content, it's the difficulty etc. that they are implying is targeted at that group.
@Fiskern Sure... but of course several of those seem like they are just a list of charges associated with the same thing, that they are able to add... so that it's not just one charge. I'm not a lawyer... but I feel like I can see what's going on here pretty easily.
Given the HUGE delay of the original (with near radio silence from the devs), only to be a visual mess... I'm hopeful but extremely sceptical about Redout 2.
If you like Wipeout controls... the Redout controls and ship movements feel to me like an extremely sub-par experience.
I completely understand his sentiment - however that said, many great innovations such as within games on the SNES / Megadrive just for example (or in other walks of life other than gaming), not having exactly what you'd like means that engineers have to 'struggle', 'work-around' and 'invent' new ways of doing things that had previously seemed impossible. As an engineer I'm surprised that's not at least a slight motivation, to be the one who overcomes all odds, but at the same time, of course on the face of it, better hardware would always be nice. Times have changed I guess.
Well firstly, it's not likely the detail for the change was simply that they 'tweaked values and removed redundancies' to 'improve visual quality'...
But anyway, to answer your question...How about they define what they mean by visual quality. Was it resolution of textures? Frame rate? Colour fidelity? Improvements to shadows, Polygon counts, video filters, ray tracing.. list goes on.
@KillerBOB Not sure what you're talking about - I am currently playing the PS2 versions and there is nothing here to suggest the issues mentioned exist.
@Thoughts What you said is true.. but unfortunately unless people keep complaining it will just continue / get worse (it probably will regardless - however, that doesn't mean we should be ok with it).
@victordamazio I assume it's more that he was publicly shown to have been cheating - so if he wasn't cheating, then I can understand why he would still want to sue regardless of the score.
@120frames-please I mean, you say 5 year old phone tech.. but considering the price, there aren't many OLED phones at that price, and definitely not ones with controllers attached.
@SpaceboyScreams Yep, as I said I agree.. but at the same time; the iPhone I mentioned, sits on an app for 80 percent of the time with icons... so I assume iOS must have some software based anti burn in process also, but it’s not something that is obvious. My point was just that results may vary.
@SpaceboyScreams Although I do agree - I have an iPhone X which is almost 4 years old and it has an OLED screen which I have on the highest brightness and it is on permanently (yes permanently) as I use it for a device control. it has still to this day, not shown any issues. I’m not saying the issue isn’t real, but clearly it depends on the device / type of screen etc, as for my iPhone at least, there’s literally no ‘noticeable’ issue whatsoever.
@Crockin ? What other game could have possibly done it? Just curious because you said the first game to woo you... pretty sure it was the first game to woo Anybody with water.
@Zeldafan79 @AndrewR In the end, it’s a portable gaming device, which is capable of playing decent games that the Switch may not have access to, regardless of battery life or any other factor. There’s no doubt it will be competition for sales of the Switch... as an example.. I cancelled my OLED order to go with this.. so it obviously is at least ‘some’ competition. I like my switch but there’s no doubt I am attracted to the ergonomics, plus the fact that there are many games I would love to play portably that just won’t or haven’t come to Switch.
It doesn’t have to be the best device ever, but it definitely has things that Switch hasn’t / doesn’t cater for right now, meaning Nintendo would be crazy to ignore it... and no matter what they tell the public, they of course look at this as competition - it’s called business. Whether they do anything about it is a different story, but any smart person at Nintendo would closely watch this space.
I’m a big fan of LEGO - but the layer on layer ‘solid’ pixel art style designs like this have never interested me.. the Technical piece use and design of the normal ‘sets’ are far more appealing, personally.
@Lordplops To me, it’s a massive threat to the ‘other players’ - I had already pre-ordered the OLED switch for example (already have the lite)... cancelled to pre-order this instead.
Of course Nintendo still has it’s benefits, mainly in the games themselves, but the one thing Steam is doing here is at least ‘attempting’ to listen to the consumers, the opposite of what we generally see from Nintendo.
Personally, the one thing I’ve always wanted is to play games that come to PS4 / PC etc. but not to Switch, such as Ace Combat, F1, Forza, Killer Instinct, or even Micro Machines (possibly not the best choice, but still not on Switch). Nice to know that all the options are there. I’ll still have a Switch but one way or another it’s definitely in competition with Nintendo regardless of whether Nintendo sees it that way or not - consumers have limited money and ‘most’ are are unlikely to choose two handhelds... or less will at least.
@Silly_G I hear what you’re saying - but I played the originals back in the day and although difficult, it’s not impossible. I think giving people rewind is a nice idea, sure; but I think we are asking a bit too much and dumbing down the challenge by offering this in all these games.
I spent days and weeks (and months) playing these games on release, so they are burned into my mind as a result, from growing up with them.. If I could just rewind and finish it easily, It would just be another blip on the radar..
@SwitchVogel It’s purely because when you buy physical, it’s annoying that if they release dlc, now you only have a half finished game on the physical copy. Plus what you already mentioned, that digital allows them to ‘worry about bug fixes later’ and then not release a finished product. So in that respect, the positive aspect of what they are saying is that it’s complete (except for the fact that they reference the bug fix downloads anyway, so it might be just as bad). @Kilroy just posted this at the same time as you -Yes, digital is seen as a good thing these days, but in practice it has allowed for half finished / broken games to be released as testing does not need to be as thorough.
Truly amazing is the contrast between how people reacted to a Rabbid’s Mario game the first time (utter disgust and fear haha) to now for the sequel where everyone is loving it. How times have changed!
@Thexare If you read my comment below yours, I’m on your side here, but just thought I’d add that the circumstance missed here is that they want to retain the option of releasing old games again and profiting from that in the future. So yes it’s only on the second hand market right now, but they want the right to retain the option of profit for a later re-release.
@Screen I’m not sure how this indicates that they value their IP, but rather that they want to retain profits - people aren’t getting these ROMS to make New New Super Mario Brothers Switch and profit off them, they are getting them as something to play that isn’t being sold by Nintendo anymore (yet). One could argue (on Nintendo’s side) that old unavailable games being made available online like this could increase nostalgia, increase visibility of their old games and then in the long run, create more money for future releases, but clearly they don’t see it that way.
I’d rather sharp graphics with a solid framerate (even 30fps) over fancy special effects, highly complex particles and hi-res textures. Just make it clean, playable and fun. IMO, performance issues are inexcusable with this in mind.
That said, many other games have been released on Switch with fancy graphics and good performance, so really, it’s not good enough to just release with these issues. Of course, decent gameplay needs to be there too.
@Pod by ‘dictated’ - I assume you mean, made products that they wanted to sell that have whichever inputs / outputs that they wanted to put in their products? Dictated is a strange way to describe that
No one demanded people to buy it... they make a product and if people don’t like it they don’t have to buy it... dictatorship is a very different concept.
@WillQuan Wasn’t ignoring, just commenting on that part of your comment. Yes, it just depends on how much of Apple’s costs goes in to their software / chipset development and production and how much they could then afford to cut the cost relative to their normal offering.
Anything is possible - take a look at the new apple tv’s relatively low cost and the chipset in that for example.
@WillQuan Well they only have ‘limited gaming’ because they choose not to have a dedicated graphics chipset, but that has no bearing on a dedicated gaming system. Not to mention their proprietary mobile chips are the fastest in the market.
Either way, I’m all up for competition. It’s a large reason why we have most of the tech advances we have today - competition motivating innovation.

In 40 years people will most definetely look at something that we do now (nothing to do with sexist behaviors) and think ‘wow, we can’t believe they thought that was ok’... but currently, you and I might both think that it’s completely fine. I try not to label past things with modern perception, or at least not with the connotation implied by the current view. Sometimes, sure... but with a bit of perspective.
@nessisonett If you buy at Amazon (for example) they often match any price that the game is reduced to for any period from the time that you pre-order through to release, automatically.... and they often match other retailers automatically. Plus, often get other bonus’s like $10 off for pre-order (Amazon also)... plus, they don’t charge until they ship. Seem like some pretty good reasons to me. edit- @fafonio - yes as you said.
@1UP_MARIO What on earth is ‘Brown’ sauce... (sounds horrible).... is that a British name for Bbq sauce? Because if it’s not, I don’t think I want to know what it is.

It is seen in many movies these days - or on mpeg / h.264 compression. Just food for thought.
