@holygeez03 Most games on PS4 (a much much more powerful console) before 2017 were 30fps and now everyone expects the Switch to be 60fps for everything... It's actually been doing well with it and many games have been 60fps, which is great - but to 'expect it' for everything, seems unreasonable.
It takes a lot of good coding for efficiency to get a decent game running at 60 on this hardware and not all studios have the skill/time/money to do so. As mentioned, Most games on PS4 or Xbox One are not running at 60fps and it's alot easier to do so on those consoles.
@ALinkttPresent Umm... I have to say that if you have not been dissapointed with any mainline Sonic games on console, then you have not been comparing it to many quality games... I'm happy for you if you really like them, that's fine.. but the quality is generally sub-par OR at least below what a fan would hope for... especially considering Sonic is (was?) Sega's 'Mario' flagship once upon a time. RIP Sonic vs Mario of the 90's.
Well, today's practices involve 'ignoring' any bugs and just releasing the game anyway... Downloadable 'updates' are seen as a feature these days... but back then, assuming it was a reputable dev, it worked properly, or it wasn't released until it did.
@SegaBlueSky If you have a Ps4 and haven't already tried it, I suggest taking a look at the Wipeout Omega Collection which is basically all of the Wipeout from PS3 and Vita on one disc.. and is fantastic, as well as being the games that the others are all trying to emulate, or at least, 'get inspiration' from. It seems Redout, as mentioned, isn't as good as it could be on consoles at the moment (but maybe updates will change that).
@AlexSora89 There are many things that could be better about this game... it doesn't mean I'll uninstall it.. but it also doesn't mean that they shouldn't fix things.. especially when the change is extremely simple.
They could probably put anything they want as the logo and if the game is good, I'd keep it.. but it doesn't
change the fact that I purchased it looking one way, and they randomly changed it to make it look like a mobile game.
@SegaBlueSky It is fantastic on PC, and as much as I applaud the Fast RMX team for their graphics, early release, price etc... I found it lacking in festures and most importantly 'feel'/'physics' considering I'm very much in love with the original Wipeout 2097 or even the later HD style. The motion (physics) feel very sterile to me in comparison.. where'as Redout is a fair bit better in that regard.
Most importantly, I can't stand the 'fake' sense of speed when using a boost where the camera focal length changes to make it look like it's going faster instead of actually just moving a lot faster.. Redout does this right, as does Wipeout..
All I'm saying, is that I felt Fast RMX is half baked and Extremely 'arcadey' when compared to the obvious competition, but Redout might be the next step... but Only if they do it right with a smooth framerate etc... because at the moment, the other console versions which were recently released, apparently have slowdown, which is very dissapointing. Hopefully they use the extra time to get it right... but I'm not super confident.
@impurekind Once again, I agree it would be good, but just to comment specifically on your mention of the SNES Jr. being cheap originally - it's because it (probably?) used original stock chips but just a new compact circuit board/housings etc.... it didn't use all new designed chips etc..
Meanwhile, let it be known I would definetely pay more for a proper one.
@impurekind Im sure they could... but hardware design is expensive.. and doing it the way they have, means almost zero hardware design, it's all software which is (relatively) cheap.
I too would like them to do it, don't get me wrong.. I just know why they didn't.
@impurekind Just my two cents worth on your comments - I do hear what your saying and it would be nice to get an actual mini version of the actual SNES for sure (with the built in games for example) but unfortunately it would (as mentioned by others) increase the R&D costs (although it is completely doable and no where near as difficult as some people here have implied) but then they would end up charging more for it..... and so they basically say (as with any company or item) - ok we can do x number of hours work and sell to x number of customers... or we can double the work and sell to slightly more people (and/or increase the price and sell to even less)... It would be great, but like any company, it comes down to cost vs potential demand vs profit. Unfortunately these days it's more about getting 90% of the way there for 50% of the cost, which sucks (if seeking related analogies for this look at early game releases that rely on DLC/updates) compared to older releases which just have to be 100% - ealry release... early money).
@AlexSora89 I'll be honest, I have had quite a few conversations about the Switch with people who have then gone and played my Switch to be pleasantly surprised at it and want to buy it..... However, several of those people have specifically seen the Snake Pass logo and said things along the lines of "is it like all mobile games" or similar comments... It really does cheapen the feel of the experience. If the main screen looks nice, it just feels good to pick up and play.. the big cheap logo really makes the whole system (my first experience whenever playing each day) feel a bit like I've picked up my mobile phone.
So, Im absolutely in understanding of why it would be good to change back. It all comes down to user experience, even if just the home screen - and in this case, the chosen logo was an eyesore as it stands out against the rest of the good ones on the same screen.
Not to mention, I believe it goes against that document that Nintendo apparently has that advises on how to make a correct logo for Switch.
Other websites were reporting that souces close to Nintendo had said that review copies (I assume codes) would not be available until launch... for whatever reason.
@kobashi100 So from what is said above, it might as well be an embargo I guess.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Tongue in Cheek? You called it a Relic and proceeded to say it looks horiffic in a later comment. Why try to sound smart and justify your rediculous comment when you were clearly doing exactly what you were accused of.
I believe this review was written very well in that it was articulate in describing the reasoning and motivations of why the game received the score it did, comparing it to the obvious graphic limitations of the time, but also in it's own right for the current day, in relation to gameplay. The game looks like a fantastic game from the time and your original comment is borderline offensive to both the devs, people on this forum and the reviewer. Tongue not in cheek.
" bout 8 points too high. I do agree that it's a "relic". "
This comment of yours has just made me understand your mindset when writing all your other endless strange comments on this site.
Number 1 most rediculous comment so far. Nice job. *Rolls Eyes
But I say this all because I believe the review touched on many of the points it should have and was well researched and non-biased. Great read and the game looks like something I would have greatly liked at the time, had it been released. Reading your comment however just seemed so negative and not required, but so many of your comments do.
Whenever I read comments from Sony execs relating to the Vita (or Sega in that same boat for that matter), it makes me wonder how they can be so disconnected from the gaming world.
I'm not an exec with all the numbers, but I am a consumer with a solid interest in the market and I can say without a doubt that the primary reason for soft sales with Vita was not the mobile phone market, as much as they would like it to be. It was overly clear to both media and consumers that even many of the better games were 'portable' versions of full AAA games instead of the full fledged versions. Excellent games were few and far between with most being just 'satisfactory', especially at launch, which of course I guess lead to low sales which turned off new devs further. There were little numbers popular established Sony game franchises or the ones that were there were not great, portable versions as mentioned or simply a different game with the same name. Memory cards which were basically essential were an unbelievable rippoff, and propietary. Noteably, fuctionality and feature updates seemed far less frequent than simply security and stability updates to prevent people 'hacking' it for example... which ironically, it seems hacking it is a major reason that people want the console now (for things like homebrew or PS1 games). Useability, including the single user account system were big turn-offs and simply annoying as a family device.
Long story short, the launch, sofware, games and overall package could have been great with some better organisation and better decisions from the company. A good piece of hardware, managed terribly.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Cost of game, although required, isn't really a consideration if comparing to other consoles.. They all need games.. Secondly.. Im only just now starting to fill up my internal mem, and added in my card ... which cost me $18 AU (32gb) which is around $12 Euro and works fine.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Not a tough decision for me - question - will I pay $10 extra (Amazon price is less than $20 for this) to play this on my Switch portably? Yea... Yea I will.
@BlueOcean The engines in many games, are not designed to be super efficient or as good as they could be, because frankly, they didn't need to be to run on something like the PS4 (should always be optimised, but they didn't have the neccessity to spend the time/money in those cases as the system has a lot more power to work with)... but for Switch they do need to.. So they have to work at it.
The sacrifices made for NBA 2K as far as graphics go, are completely acceptable and far less of a compromise than most people expected, and I would imagine that there is no way that's 'as good as it can get'. So it all comes down to how good the company is at developing or utilising a game engine.
The engine that FFXV runs on doesn't seem very efficient at all by what is apparently their own admission. So the question is really whether or not they have the skill/resources etc. to improve it enough.
@PotatoTheG Umm.. the main take away of this article was that even if they knew we wanted a Mania 2, they wont make it because that's just 'what the fans want' and they would never want to do 'what the fans want'..
This interview shows exactly why Sonic has had such an aweful track record compared to it's original success.
It actually blows my mind how someone in this position can literally say that they will not make a game that 'the people who buy it' want.. because they arbitrarily need to make it 'advance' more than they want to make it 'good'.
'Ridiculous' is the best way i can describe this thinking.. and the fact that as a company they cannot see this, makes me hope they fail (even though I would have loved to play another good Sonic game in the future). Unbelievable. Rant over.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Except for the fact that even with all the complaints, there hasn't been any need for 'padding', for me at least. I've been playing Switch non-stop and already have games that I have to find time to get to once done with others. Having VC would be good, but I'm personally far more annoyed at the lack of bluetooth for example. That is a clear oversight, whereas their choice of VC timing is a business choice that they quite possibly see as correct, when taking into account SNES mini coming out for example or something to boost Christmas sales maybe.
@oats-81 The whole device costs $300 US and it's a 720p display, of course they are cheap relative to what is available - that doesn't mean it's bad but just that it's obviously cheap compared to something they might sell with 4K and 60 inch for example.
@shani No that's not what was meant - It means that while you are controlling one of the players, your team mate will obviously move around the court to be in a spot to pass to etc.. but the position that they move to is very often a bad spot, so for example, the AI team is often beating you to the loose ball etc while your teamate is on the opposite side of the court.... you will always control the player when the ball arrives in their hands however - yet when the AI team moves up and down the court, the secondary player (of the AI team) is seemingly always in the right spot for a great pass / shot etc from their team mate, which is annoying considering the placement of your AI team mate.
But on a related note - I personally would absolutely wait for NBA2K (unfortunately I already bought Playgrounds though), because I can't stand the lack of polish on this game (sluggish menu's/controls/blurry graphics/ slightly irritating sound effects and overall lower budget feel) - it is obviously cheaper to buy than NBA2K however - some people will definetely like it for its arcade style alone, but I can't ignore the issues long enough to enjoy the game, even though I have tried many times.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Well I don't see how Wii U can be the 'definitive version' - being first almost ensures that isn't the case... e.g Zelda BOTW was created for WiiU.. but is clearly not the definitive version.
Seeing as they are at least adding 'some' things that the other versions don't have and the resolution will presumeably be better as well, I would imagine that alone is enough to ensure the Wii U version isn't the definitive one. Nothing to do with price or value, just replying in regards to your 'definitive' comment.
@NinChocolate @KillerTan98 @MarioPhD @-Green- I can never get used to those voices and going by Nintendolife's preview of the gameplay, I don't think I want to spend my money.
What I just never understand, is that reputable game reviewers say things that are being done badly in certain game lines (cough 'Sonic' cough) and yet the devs continue to pump out the same junk. I'm not saying they aren't trying at all - but I am saying that it doesn't take much searching to find the reasons why many previous Sonic games have been sub-par, and it doesn't look likely to change. The PS4 has a huge user base and if only 2 percent buy this game they will think it's a success based purely on numbers, and make even more of them, but seriously, I wish Sonic devs would open their eyes. Look at Rayman/DK/Mario/any other good platformer for help.
..and to be clear.. because I would like to see a franchise I used to love at one point, be great again.
@Menchi187 Yep... the 'in point' is to mean that 'the opposite' example is relevant in the following case, but those who did not understand this peace of speach often interpret it as saying 'here is a case and it is also the point of what I'm saying'... which is incorrect. But yea, jump on facebook or youtube and witness this kind of thing everywhere.
@nhSnork A lot of words there, but seeing as it's on 'my' screen and I can't change it - and it was already perfectly fine, I feel like I
have the right to voice my opinion on changes to something that I see, that I paid money for.... the current icon is very tacky and changing it back to something due to popular demand would both be perfectly acceptable, and reasonable... nothing ugly about finding an image tacky or ugly.
@Spoony_Tech @SLIGEACH_EIRE Just checking here, but are you sure? Because they were saying that the patch they released to Nintendo is actually going to reduce the file size of the game by 'half'. So actually halve the game size. It is possible the patch is double the size as you mention, but this seems unlikely? It is true however that Nintendo (according to them) was not necessarily allowing it, I believe I read.
From what I understand, the patch would apparently increase the portable resolution as well as add the missing features (while supposedly reducing the file size).
Reducing texture res' is a good way to reduce file size, however the resolution of textures are not the primary reason for the small file size in this case. There are a number of small indie games on PS4 with low-res' textures which have file sizes that are larger than Splatoon 2, a full AAA game, just as a point of comparison. Take for example NBA playgrounds, which is currently over 7GB on Switch, where they were trying to get Nintendo to allow them to release a patch that literally halves the file size, all while adding additional features and increasing screen resolution. Even this halved size, is larger than Splatoon 2. There is such a thing as good and bad programming and file use, as well as computationally heavy ways, if the hardware is capable, to produce games that aid in reducing file sizes, in addition to simple compression. Nintendoomed is not always the answer.
@WhiteTrashGuy Being a non-yankee (Aussie would you say the Madden games are as good / better than say Fifa or 2k NBA as far as sports games go? I have never played an NFL game so just purely on the videogame itself rather than NFL, would you reccommend me trying it given I don't know all the rules of game yet (nfl)?
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
I know the reasons behind the 'why' but still would have loved to see Donkey Kong Country 2 Similarly Earth Worm Jim original would have been fantastic.. It wasn't exclusive but had better graphics (but minus a stage) than the MegaDrive/Genesis.
.. And ... if they are bringing in FX chip games then Stunt Race FX would have been a fantastic addition.
@Mishima Well considering this is only part of the first part of the DLC, and on top of that other than the rest of part 1, there is a part 2 to come as well, so what if a speed runner / good player finished in 4 hours? Most players wont finish it that quick, and its part of a part of $20 dlc. I pay that much for movies for 2 hours of entertainment
@ThomasBW84. Wow... I understand heaps of people want this product, but I would guess that no matter what Nintendo themselves did, these would sell out just the same. But more inportantly, when Nintendo announced the SNES, they sold out just the same as when they 'in a bad for business' way, as you put it, launched the NES mini. It's bad for business in your eyes because they don't get the sales, but you don't see people complaining when say for example their favourite vacuum cleaner is so popular it's out of stock...gamers feel like their passion entitles them to expect more from a Company that in reality has no obligation to you to make more.. meanhile high demand is the opposite of 'bad' for business, ESPECIALLY when it comes from no artificial means (contrary to what it seems you're implying in this article). The sound of entitlement is just so loud here to me. If you were Nintendo, you'd be laughing your ass off that so many people want 'more' of your product and are willing to pay for it.. there's no worries there for business. I'm not saying the scalping part is good, but there's no 'bad for business' part here from Nintendo's point of view, not on the whole. In addition, all that aside, the registration on their own website makes it seem as though they want to ensure supply for those who really want one anyway. Once again, your article is fueling something that comes down to 'Im a gamer and game companies should be far more accountable than any other company'. Which is rubbish.
Take the Switch - we can see the numbers that they sold through... people still complained it was artificial stock shortages.. There's only one thing that makes this bad for Business.. and that's media articles and consumers who don't really think in a logical manner.
@PlywoodStick @impurekind Reading the programmers interview, he said that those versions lacked various gameplay design elements (not visually but gameplay).. not related to 'errors or kinks'. I understand the roms are working amd might 'look' the same, but that has nothing to do with if things were changed / added as he says.
@PlywoodStick how can the online ROMs be almost entirely complete if the programmers themselves said that those were both untested and gameplay-wise incomplete versions that were leaked??
@buildz Well considering they have decided it is worthy of Starfox 2 which used an even more powerful version of the FX chip I would imagine it's a very good emu for Yoshi too =)
I have devices that can run snes, gba and genesis games with zero issue and they are significantly lower power than anything that ran 2.2... it's all about the coding/engine. In this case, the coding/engine is clearly terrible considering it stutters on an iphone 7 which is literally 10's (or more) times faster than my older emulation devices. No excuse here, blatant lies and marketing spin.
@BAN Oh they realise, it's that none of them want to be the ones to try - it's always about money of course thy want to guarantee more profit without making a big effort ... sheesh

Re: Video: Get a Good Look at Rabbid Luigi and Mario in Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle
@ArmsManiac6 Well.. it came out of nowhere except for the giant leak before e3 But yes, it looks great.
Re: Random: GameCube Listings on Nintendo Websites Raise Hopes for Switch, But Don't Get Too Excited
Re: Nintendo Switch Screen Supplier, Japan Display Inc., is Facing Tough Times
@oats-81 The whole device costs $300 US and it's a 720p display, of course they are cheap relative to what is available - that doesn't mean it's bad but just that it's obviously cheap compared to something they might sell with 4K and 60 inch for example.
Re: Bask in Nostalgia With Sonic Mania Special and Bonus Stage Footage
@Captain_Toad My favourite stage by far was actually the Sonic 2 Half pipe - even the graphics were great! Was (and still) hoping it's included.
Re: Virtuos Is Working on Porting a AAA Game to the Switch
@Rika_Yoshitake It did, but they would have to increase resolution / texture res significantly.
Re: Review: NBA Playgrounds (Switch eShop)
Re: Rayman Legends: Definitive Edition Set for 12th September, Demo Live in Europe
Re: Video: Get a Good Look at Infinite, the New Villain in Sonic Forces
Re: Deals: Amazon Prime Day 2017 Round Up
@GravyThief But no matter how hard you try, your pro will never fit in your pocket... or play Zelda
Re: Weirdness: Mobile App 'Final Clash' Confuses All With Zelda: Breath of the Wild Footage in Trailer
Re: Random: Internet Reacts Badly To The New Snake Pass Menu Icon
@nhSnork A lot of words there, but seeing as it's on 'my' screen and I can't change it - and it was already perfectly fine, I feel like I
have the right to voice my opinion on changes to something that I see, that I paid money for.... the current icon is very tacky and changing it back to something due to popular demand would both be perfectly acceptable, and reasonable... nothing ugly about finding an image tacky or ugly.
Re: Splatoon 2 And Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle File Sizes Appear On Nintendo eShop
Re: Splatoon 2 And Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle File Sizes Appear On Nintendo eShop
@Menchi187
Re: First Impressions: Kicking Off With FIFA 18 on the Nintendo Switch
@kobashi100 well 3 was pretty average so i'll wait for reviews I think.
Re: First Impressions: Kicking Off With FIFA 18 on the Nintendo Switch
@WhiteTrashGuy Being a non-yankee (Aussie would you say the Madden games are as good / better than say Fifa or 2k NBA as far as sports games go? I have never played an NFL game so just purely on the videogame itself rather than NFL, would you reccommend me trying it given I don't know all the rules of game yet (nfl)?
Re: First Impressions: Kicking Off With FIFA 18 on the Nintendo Switch
@Solid_Stannis Wow 3 digit figures?? did they really only sell less than a thousand copies in total??
Re: Video: Warm Up for the SNES Mini With This 16-bit Tech Showcase
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
Re: Sledgehammer Games Has a Definitive Answer on Call of Duty: WWII for Nintendo Switch - "No"
@Moms-Meowth funny how this paperweight has kept me entertained for 4 months straight. Rediculous comments are rediculous.
Re: Zelda: Breath Of The Wild's Tough Trail Of The Sword DLC Has Been Beaten Already
Re: Editorial: The Frustrating Quest for a SNES Mini is Bad Business for Nintendo
Re: Star Fox 2 Release Has Nothing To Do With Super FX Patent Expiring, Says Argonaut Founder
Re: Star Fox 2 Release Has Nothing To Do With Super FX Patent Expiring, Says Argonaut Founder
@PlywoodStick how can the online ROMs be almost entirely complete if the programmers themselves said that those were both untested and gameplay-wise incomplete versions that were leaked??
Re: The Super NES Classic Edition Hides the Classic Controller Connector Ports
@impurekind It's so true haha. For those who grew up with it they wouldn't agree I'm sure but it's definetely the ugly brother =P
Re: The Super NES Classic Edition Hides the Classic Controller Connector Ports
@numlocks I'm used to the nice smooth PAL version so i had no idea either haha.
Re: Poll: Are You Excited About the Super NES Classic Edition?
@buildz Well considering they have decided it is worthy of Starfox 2 which used an even more powerful version of the FX chip I would imagine it's a very good emu for Yoshi too =)
Re: Sega Forever Manager Blames Mobile Fragmentation For Shortcomings
@MrGamerClock64
Re: Codemasters Hasn't Completely Ruled Out Bringing Micro Machines To Nintendo Switch
@BAN Oh they realise, it's that none of them want to be the ones to try - it's always about money of course thy want to guarantee more profit without making a big effort ... sheesh
Re: Codemasters Hasn't Completely Ruled Out Bringing Micro Machines To Nintendo Switch
@NinjaBadger
Dev1 : Lets wait and see if 'Dev2' releases games for it and then it becomes popular and then we can also release games for it.
