@psychoBrew It appears as though there are literally ‘no’ car shadows on a game from 2019... (Bare in mind that 1990’s 3D games still managed shadows) and the car mechanics seem to be straight from mobile... imo a terrible production that does not deserve my money.
I could play Yoshi’s Island from the SNES a million times over without it feeling stale, but this game (when I played the demo) just felt a bit gimmicky and overly cutesy to me.. I wanted it to be fantastic but it just feels like they made it in this style, purely to try and be different, rather than just to make a good game (think Starfox WiiU)... not to mention.. why can’t Yoshi hold an enemy anymore, without swallowing them into an egg?
@ik4sum1 No it’s a terrible alternative to M ortal K ombat....
*jokes - Yes the original was a lot of fun and much like Mario Kart... it had quite a few extra options and features also - obviously trying to compete with Mario Kart at the time.
@trakkerx However it could potentially be as powerful in handheld as the current one is in docked. Would make for an easy transition for software because the game would just act as if it were docked.
@chill_e Yea my original comment was in relation to what someone had said - and my original reply was that exact thing, that generally MK (at least based on X) was fantastically full of content, so fingers crossed it’s the same here and in that case, I’m happy to see extra DLC.
You were almost right in your first sentence when you mentioned that ‘you’re not understanding what I’m saying’..... I actually was saying the exact opposite of everything you just said... My original example was that IF MK11 is already fully featured (which I hope it is) then it would not be a problem to have the DLC, and also went on to say in other posts elsewhere that MKX was fully featured so I have high hopes... I feel like you are just a rude person who wants to argue.
@AlexSora89 The game has time travel - there are multiple versions (ages) of characters.... However, time has passed since the originals - e.g. Sonya and Cage are old enough to have fighting children.. (where this was not the case in the originals either).
@Draxa To answer your question - I’m not ‘butthurt’... way to start making this aggressive, btw.
I believe myself, and others, would have found the DLC issue that we speak of, equally problematic with Smash, however as I had previously stated, if a game is considerably ‘complete’ without DLC, then people including myself, are less concerned with any DLC plans. In the case of Smash, it’s absolutely a game that is already full of content, without the DLC, so it’s not really a concern because it doesn’t ‘feel’ like parts of it are held back for cash.... it does however seem like this, if a game is seemingly half finished, with DLC announced.
Zelda is another example.... DLC was announced early on, but it felt like a complete and entirely competant package without the DLC to begin with, making it less of a problem.
@Draxa I’m happy if the game has a decent amount of Kontent without the DLC, but the point being made is that if they can annouce DLC characters and even show them as part of the already functioning gameplay trailers then it means they are simply holding them back for extra money.
@gloom I’d normally be the first person to agree with this - however the exception for me is IF the game has the equivalent of a ‘full game’ worth of Kontent to begin with... Don’t get me wrong... I agree that this is a terrible practice in general, but if it’s because they haven’t yet created the character other than the model etc, I’d be ok with it, but once again this is with the assumption that the game is ‘Komplete’ to an extent without the DLC.
@nintendolie 2D does not mean it automatically runs great... There are Many games that run good or bad on various platforms and besides - why be a hater? I know I know, you have a lot of reasons why you think you’re being reasonable. Meanwhile, I’m glad as are many others I see, that this video was shown.
Ed Boon noted on Twitter that it was an oversight and would be sorted out (a new trailer / showing of his fatal blow / fatality I assume) - Ed often has a deadpan style of sarcasm / humour on Twitter from what I see, but it didn’t seem to be a joke in this case.
@Alucard83 Everyone is of course entitled to their own opinion, but to imply that MKX wasn’t a fantastic game is disregarding an overwhelming majority of people who believe it’s one of the best ever... including me.
@Octane The main reason it’s a surprise - is that there was a huge amount of people who believed it was both not possible technically and also, that Microsoft would not allow it.
Of course it’s the same as as any game coming across, but the point is that until today, it was assumed by most people that it wouldn’t happen.
@nofriendo In 2D there is the opportunity (graphically) to implement a game without blurring, good shading and without sharp edges, where’as with 3D, conessions are made to bring it to 3D... For example.. look at Mortal Kombat 3 vs 4... it seems to go backwards in terms of the look of the characters, to get to 3D. Another example would be DKC to DK64 or Mario to Mario 64.
The realism that you mention is a big factor also though.
On a related note, physical media that doesn’t have the whole game is beyond rediculous and IF that is the best they can do I would rather have digital only.... BUT... It’s not the best they can do.. it’s what they are choosing to do and it’s rediculous, as it’s like they actually don’t understand why people are buying physical in the first place... don’t even get me started on day one patches.
TEST TIL IT WORKS... I work in software development... I know it’s hard, but this culture of ‘works well enough’ and them patching later is a terrible result of the supposedly ‘modern’ ability to connect via the internet and dlc. DLC should be for content.. not for using buyers as beta testers.
@RetroOutcast I’m not freaking out, but it definetely makes me wonder who on Earth at a professional company could think this would pass as anything but a B grade fan fiction appearance.
@Markiemania95 I mean if they want to go with ‘realistic’, take a look at the trailers for the new pokemon detective movie where they have carried across the perfect essence of the character but transferred that brilliantly (at least from a design perspective) into real life style.
@Markiemania95 The design is terrible regardless haha. It’s an incredibly awkward look. At least the edited eyes look like Sonic.. right now it appears to be some kind of fan fiction B grade clone and if I was the designer (or approvers) I would be quite ashamed of my efforts.
@Markiemania95 Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.......... but wow... because the design is straight up horrible and any other opinion is difficult to believe
The edited eyes look way better but unfortunately the rest is still a nightmare.
For those who have played it already, is it a similar experience to the Dragon’s Trap (remake / remaster overlay?). That was one of my favourite games from the Sega Master System, and I thought the remake was great.
It’s annoying because if we choose not to buy it - the game company says ‘oh it was the wrong game for system etc.’ rather than realising it was just a rip off and people actually would love it if it had been done right / priced right.
@RazumikhinPG I have never applied for a job where I didn’t already know the approximate wage that it paid. I also made sure to negotiate, regardless of what the initial amount was. This pay gap thing (given what I have just stated) is a lot more intricate than just ‘they pay women less for the same job’.. are they stating a wage in the job ad, and then when you get there they are paying you less because you’re a woman?? It may absolutely happen in some places... but I have yet in all my years, seen two people get the same pay at all, and the one who gets the highest was the one who was better for the job, simple as that. IF that is a woman more often then that’s that... but if it’s alot of men instead who are best for the job... is that a problem? Totally agree with you! For anyone interested in being more open minded (and completely logical) about this, topic, Jordan Peterson has some very good and intelligent conversation about this and many other topics in today’s strange world.
@hihelloitsme Your comment about an Xbox being 6 years old is not really relevant, in that this is Clearly a problem with the games porting / optimisation etc.
The stats of the Xbox have not changed over 6 years, it can handle graphics which are totally fine.... but when you go to the Switch, programmers need to actually optimise correctly or it shows... and that’s the problem.
@Harmonie Totally agree - my point was just that many people assume that because a game runs a certain way on say PS4 or PC that it’s not even possible - but infact it may just need optimisation to run.
But completely agree that EA wouldn't even bother.
@SwitchForce I agree, but then I think the multiplayer (turning the joycon sideways) aspect would have suffered.. but of course they could have changed the design entirely to make it work.
But either way, we already know it should have it (it’s been out for almost 2 full years) what’s the point of still saying it? Just venting?
@Harmonie Firstly, don’t forget that the way a game runs is dependent on how it’s coded... they could easily code it for Switch (not to say they would).... AND secondly... the comment about Sims being the game to come out, was a Joke! Not the prefferred game lol.
@retro_player_22 I agree if it’s 10gb they should - but we have no idea how big it will be if they remaster it (ie it’s obviously not going to run at the original resolution so would most likely have higher resolution assets - not to mention other aspects).
But given it’s a Nintendo property, they will most likely be on one cart. Because Nintendo obvioulsy aren’t paying a premium for the larger cartridges, as a third party publisher would.

This.... is exactly why many developers can get away with releasing unfinished products. Taking advantage of the potential to update at any time. Not being able to update a game obviously meant more work back in the 90’s for example... but at least the games used to release in a condition that felt finished.
We pay money for products that clearly need work (which seems blatantly obvious when day one patches are basically the complete norm).
@Marios-love-child I knew from the very first advert for this game that it was going to be exactly mediocre at best, and said so at the time.... judging a book by it’s cover can sometimes be appropriate.
That said, given how this looks in the static photos shown on nintendolife I would have some confidence that if a developer wanted to make a good (and good looking) game on Switch it would absolutely be possible. I would say ‘for example’ Dirt Rally, but after codemaster’s so-called attempt at bringing back one of my favourite series ‘Micro Machines’, I’m not holding my breath about their talent, given it will probably require some extra work to get it on Switch in good form.
