Sadly, this is not a joke - it's just been posted by TT Games a few days after 1st April. The developer has made the tough decision to delay LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, again.
After delaying the game last August, until Spring 2021, it's now put out a message stating how it will no longer be able to make this release window and will provide an update as soon as it can. Here it is in full:
"All of us at TT Games are working hard to make LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga the biggest and best-ever LEGO game - but we're going to need more time to do it. We won't be able to make our intended Spring release date, but will provide updated launch timing as soon as possible."

Delay away. After Cyberpunk we can handle delays especially if the game runs well.
Welp, that stinks, at least I get more time to try and get money to buy the game
Release a new trailer on may 4th at least.
I’m glad they want to release the game when it’s ready and not on some arbitrary deadline. I’ve been looking forward to this one and I have plenty of games in the backlog to keep me busy. Seeing the focus this developer is putting into making it a quality game actually makes me want to buy this game more.
oh :C
this is sadness
not surprising considering nothing about this game has been shown off in like 2 years
I thought this was coming out on New Year's Eve. That is the listed release date on amazon
Its all the games in one, I'm sure it will be worth the wait.
Not surpised to see games getting delayed. I remember last year people on here trying to argue that the pandemic wasn't a excuse for games getting delayed.
They probably had to drop everything to find copies of Mario before Nintendo scooped them all up and put them on eBay for $37,000.
The Lego games are consistently good to great, I can wait awhile longer for this.
By the way, there’s a great eshop sale on lego games right now (North America), some at all time low prices. Lego city is 6 bucks and DC supervillains is 12. Definitely worth checking out to scratch that itch. Sale ends April 14th.
Whyyy bro. Oh well, I was going to wait for it to go on sale, so waiting a few months won’t matter to me. Still sucks though.
@Sourcecode I forgot about the steel book case! I may have to get that.
In the meantime, at least we have plenty of other Switch games we can enjoy.
Never had an issue with delays - ‘as long as it’s to improve the experience’. There
are no guarantees as you say, but to be honest the time will come and in the mean time I can play some of the games I haven’t had a chance to get to.
Hopefully the delays are worth it. The last few LEGO games haven't exactly been head turning, so here's hoping this one will live up to the hype.
I say "thank you" to the developers for their honesty. I would much rather wait a little longer for a great finished game. Especially when I'm paying a premium price for this title. A botched, hot mess released to meet some arbitrary deadline date is in no one's best interests. Patience, everyone... I believe the Force is strong with this one.... 💪😉
Plot twist. Switch version is the only thing holding it back.
@Snakesglowcaps Double plot twist: The Switch Pro version is the only thing holding it back.
I’ve still never forgiven Tt for never releasing the Hobbit add-on/DLC that was promised to complete the trilogy
@Tandy255 triple plot twist, they never even started the game and have just been mashing the movies this whole time!!!
@vyseofhr but they’ve done so many other great things. Lego Jurassic World was so amazing to me personally.
@MiraiMoon they showed some gameplay 7 months ago...
Don’t they mean Palpatine Saga? 🤨 Because that’s what Episode IX pretty well made it. Sorry... Still bitter about the Sequel Trilogy. 😝
Being a LEGO title, it will eventually wind up on heavy discount. So I'm used to waiting on these things
That’s because this is misnamed “The Skywalker Saga” anyway since the last three chapters have little to do with the Skywalkers.
The problem is that they shouldn't be announcing games so far out.
@Snatcher Well, all the movies in one. The games are new.
Lego games are often a little buggy, so happy for them to take their time. I've got about 19 Mario games to play in the mean time.
@JSDude1 Rey's an adopted Skywalker. Uh oh.
@TryToBeHopeful there are two new games right?
Covid is affecting game development. Expect more like this throughout the year.
A rushed game is bad forever, a delayed game can be good.
I do have to say that I didn't expect a Lego game to be delayed. Twice. But then again, we are living in trying times and that'll propably be the reason why.
Let them take their time. It's always a bummer on our side, but backlogs are magic - and so are all the other releases that contribute to these backlogs by the truckload.
@JimmySpades oh please, if Nintendo wanted to put SM3DAS up for $37000, they'd do so on eShop from the get-go. And calmly roast marshmallows on the ensuing fire.😆
What’s with all the delays in this, is just a Lego game how much more can go wrong with it 🤦♂️
I'm actually glad they are delaying the game. I would much rather this particular LEGO game be polished and amazing than release early and be a mistake. I am actually a little scared that because of the scope of the 9 films that each chapter will be more rushed than I would like so any extra time to bring it up to expectations is a good delay.
@Snatcher If you're talking about the lego games, my understanding it is ALL new. It's not a rerelease/remaster of any past lego star wars games.
Pray I don't alter the deal any further.
I am good with waiting a bit longer for a better game. It's one they don't want to ruin for the sake of a few months. I suspect this will be put out for the Christmas schedule now.
If TT could make a new Lego city game that would be good as well. Still the best Lego game.
I bought Force Awakens on Xbox and without updating it it's borderline unplayable (couldn't even do multiplayer), more time in the oven is good for sure.
Would it be great if we have The Original Lego Marvel Superheroes Video Game on the Switch.
@Nymos that would likely be a placeholder date commonly used for preorders that don't have a confirmed release window yet.
@TheLightSpirit I mean Cyberpunk was a huge "innovative" (heh) game supposed to define Next-Gen. The problem wasn't that the delays meant nothing, they had to do something for the game.
The real problem was that the higher-ups got impatient and told developers to rush the game out for that Christmas season.
The difference is, Traveler's Tales care more than CD Projekt Red. Kinda. Let me explain.
Instead of just rushing out a game to get it released on Spring 2021, even Winter 2020, they're delaying a game further.
Now can the game still end up like a bad state like 2077? Duh, yeah. But the delays by Tt Games, and the fact that they're not even giving out a public release window, is very promising compared to Cyberpunk.
Idk you can see this statement as bs, I just find it funny that a Lego game seems to be more promising than an open-world game that was in development for seven years (and counting).
For me this is now off of my list. I fully enjoy these games but after all of these delays I am just moving on.
@HotGoomba IMO opinion TT is going to have to work twice as hard to re-hype this game when it is finally ready. When you delay a game as many times as this or Cyberpunk you tend to lose players' interest, I know mine is gone. And speaking of Cyberpunk that was the reason that they kept posting about delays, they were trying to keep the game in the minds of players
It’s probably to give them more time to work out how to make episode 8 and 9 actually entertaining. I’m joking . . . Kind of! X x anyway I reckon september. Day one for me xxxx
It's a shame but this is the best thing. There was no way this would be ready in 1 to 3 months.
Bring it on. I just bought Mario U on switch so can spend all my spare time on that instead.
@vyseofhr I'm holding out hope that there will be a middle earth collection one day that will have LOTR and all hobbit films in.
It will be ready just in time for Christmas 2021.
That sucks, but I don't mind the wait. There'll be plenty of other games, coming out between now and when this is released, to keep me busy.
At this point, I'd rather take a delay rather than a rushed game like with Balan Wonderland.
@TryToBeHopeful @JSDude1 @EvilRegal Ben Solo is 1/4 Skywalker. 🤓
I hope this is not a sign of a troubled development. In any event, a delayed game is eventually good, yadda yadda yadda
@Snatcher @TryToBeHopeful That is my understanding too. All new designed levels. It wouldn’t be very balanced otherwise, since Force Awakens got a stand alone game.
Check out the Wikipedia page. Main game will be 45 levels, five levels per movie. The original six movies had 36 levels, six per movie. There will also be new types of force powers and blaster modes. If they do reuse old levels, they will need to update them for the new game play mechanics.
I am really looking forward to this!
@Snakesglowcaps A fourth plot twist: It is delayed for bonus Mando levels.
Now I want a stand alone LEGO game of The Adventures of Mando and Grogu!
The delay is strong with this one.
i seriously i want a sequel to lego city undercover the first one was hilarious as hell.
@RiasGremory Totally! I finally played through Lego City and finished the game 100% (with some guides when I got stuck). So much fun!
@TryToBeHopeful Luke never adopted her, she merely took his name. Ok

For those unclear on this (and with the lack of marketing so far, I don't blame you), this game isn't just a remaster or repackaging of the previous games.
It's being built from the ground up on an entirely new engine, first developed for this game, and will feature all new content.
The majority of the game will be covered in an open-world, free roam style in which you can travel to any part of the Star Wars galaxy featured across all nine core movies, in any order that you choose. The 45 "levels" will primarily be focused on specific battles and other key events from the movies, several of which supposedly to be points not featured in the original games.
Additionally, the new engine will feature new mechanics, such as full 360 camera control, over-the-shoulder aiming perspective, more complex combat than previous games, and more interactive Force powers.
The game is reported to contain somewhere in the neighborhood of 800 characters and creatures, with around 300 of them playable. There are something like 24 explorable planets/moons/Death Stars (more or less every setting in the movies), each with side-quests and secrets to discover. There will also be random space encounters in the free-roam atmospheres of the planets where you can take on capital ships that, once defeated, can be boarded and explored as well.
The game is also being developed for the new XBOX and PS systems.
Considering all of that, it should be clear that this isn't "just another" LEGO game, or a simple rehash of the previous games in the series, and make it more understandable why delays have happened, especially given the circumstances of the past year.

An out of date quote, games have patches these days.
@imagazzell after reading your post , how could anyone say no to this game! Xx
Fact is the UK has had the strongest of lockdowns off and on since march of 2020. It's clear that TT working from home has not been able to crunch like they normally do to finish a game. There is voice acting to record and all sorts. I think that COVID is mainly to blame here.
@Tandy255 I like the sound of that plot twist
Will still be a glitchy, broken mess at release then.
I judge that by current game trends over the last 5 to 10 years.
When games are a long time in the making, and then pushed back multiple times, never a good sign
(Although i do want this game to be well made and to do well)
@Sourcecode The High Republic stories have been great so far. I’m guessing you haven’t read them?
@Sourcecode Sounds like a fun, positive “fan” group to be a part of.
I’m 37 and I’ve been a huge Star Wars fan since the 80s. I’m also not lying when I say I’ve been enjoying the HR so far. Admittedly, Into the Dark is my least favorite of the books, but I still enjoyed it. Not sure why you’d let the name of a ship and one minor character (who frankly I don’t even see the problem with) ruin the whole thing for you, but whatever. Sorry you’re not enjoying it, but come on, you can’t honestly believe that it’s so offensively bad that nobody could possibly enjoy it.
I don’t expect everybody to like everything of course, but man, I say Star Wars is as good as ever right now. The sequels were better than the prequels (especially Last Jedi, which is a top 3 SW film for me), Rogue One and Solo were cool, Rebels was outstanding, Mandalorian has been a blast, some of my favorite SW books ever have come out of the new canon, there have been several really solid comics, and yeah, I dig what they’re doing with the High Republic and can’t wait to see where it goes. I seriously have no idea why so many people are so down on all of this, it’s such a good time to be a fan. It really feels like some people don’t even want to like the new stuff and decide not to before they even check it out (not necessarily saying you’re one of those people). But if you truly don’t like what they’re doing, at least let other people enjoy it and just hope you like the next thing they do. There’s plenty of Star Wars content out there and plenty more coming. You’re bound to not hate something.
@Sourcecode I honestly don’t think I am, I think people who hate the new stuff just really like letting people know they hate it and it seems like there’s a lot more of them...but yeah, there’s no denying that there is an unfortunate number of people who don’t seem happy. Hopefully more universally-liked stuff comes out in the future.
@Jbuggydroid
It's LEGO. Hardly high performance
It's something I can live with. I'm hoping to put as many of my (xbox) reward points towards it as possible. So at least it gives me more time to earn them.
It's a Lego game.....
So I don't care. It's way more important, that Resident Evil 8 or Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart don't get delays
@Krambo42,
Same here, pretty much like all the Star Wars movies, not too keen on the last Jedi, but it still has it's good moments.
Along time ago in a galaxy far far away I first heard about this game being developed! joking aside, just get it right and out before Christmas. Also, I have MH rise, Zelda SS and Mario Golf coming later this year, so all good and no dramas.
@E_Gadds_Garage the Lego games are also consistently buggy as hell, especially when you start to stretch the mechanics of the game like any competent 6 year old would.
Lego Marvel Superheroes 2 on Switch has been one of the worst gaming experiences I've had for bugs.
Shame as it is based on a quality Lego video game in part so I was really looking fwd to it. Just get everything right for the release. No biggie in the grand scheme of things.
Not necessarily surprised, but still a bit disappointed. I'll admit I'm looking forward to this if only because I'll be able to play w/ the kid and have a split-screen experience.
@Nymos
that was just a place holder
december 31st is not the actual release date !
i'm in no hurry to play the game
i can wait until they have all the other things in the game !
i can always look for other games to play on the Nintendo Switch !
