Based on the text, this seems like a very positive review, but the game's only scored a 6/10? Either way, I'm definitely interested. This one is getting a download from me for sure.
So after five years of waiting, the closest we've come to seeing what Retro is working on is a glimpse at a robot's hand. Incredible. The anticipation is killing me.
I think that the QoL idea was a project that was directed, or at least influenced, by Satoru Iwata, and his passing may have had something to do with why the project never came to fruition. Just a theory. I'm no insider, so who knows.
So who are the aforementioned friends? John, Paul and George? This one looks pretty good. Always impressed when indie devs combine a bunch of genres like this.
What would be neat is Mario & Luigi Trilogy on Switch, where they bundle upscaled-to-HD versions of Superstar Saga DX and Bowser's Inside Story DX with a newly created Partners In Time DX in the same style.
Hopefully Jakks Pacific does a quality job. The TOMY line left a lot to be desired, so I hope Jakks Pacific tries to emulate the great Jazzwares Sonic toys from a while back.
I think handing off the development to the less experienced team at Bandai Namco was a misguided in the first place. Hearing Retro will be more heavily involved in this version of Prime 4 is excellent news, and I have no doubt it will be just as good as the previous trilogy.
What? So what's going to even be in the Orlando Nintendo World? Just Mario and Mario Kart stuff? After hitting a homerun with Harry Potter, and potentially having another huge success with the Nintendo World, Universal's dumped it all down the drain. Probably in favour of some more rides that are just 3D 360 movies with moving chairs.
I'm afraid I have to disagree. Calling Atari games "barely playable cave paintings" is just ridiculous. Yes, they are archaic, but there are plenty of Atari games like Missile Command, Breakout and Centipede which (barring control issues) are entirely playable today and are still fun. I could understand if the criticism was lobbed at the controls being off, or the emulation being inaccurate, or the collection being overpriced, but complaining that the games included are too old?
Isn't the whole concept of two simultaneously released versions kind of 'locking Pokemon behind a paywall'? And what about region-exclusive or timed events? I didn't have the money back in the day to fly to New York and go to the Nintendo World store and get Jirachi, is that 'locking Pokemon behind a paywall'? I generally agree with the sentiment of this article, but hasn't this been the Pokemon business model since the beginning?
Great, another version of Resident Evil 4 I have to buy... But seriously, it's one of the best games ever made. I'll probably still buy it when it comes out for microwaves.
I hope Sega is doing the right thing. If this game comes out after the delay and is great, I think Sega will legitimately be on the right track and will have really showed how committed they are to revitalising the company.
I hope Sega is doing the right thing. If this game comes out after the delay and is great, I think Sega will legitimately be on the right track and will have really showed how committed they are to revitalising the company.
Awesome to see John Carpenter getting respect for being not only one of the great directors, but one of the best film composers. IGN, on the other hand, should probably be investigated for torture making him play the Labo piano.
If Sega is serious about reviving "idle" IP and having simultaneous worldwide releases, this could be their single biggest renaissance in acclaim and relevance. Of course it all hinges on the fact that the games are good.
Metroid Fusion is really awful, handhold-y and linear. Don't know why people criticise Other M for that stuff when Fusion is just as bad, if not worse.
This latest iteration of 'meme culture' likes to turn people like Sakurai into abstracted representations of the things they do or create, which makes people forget that even important famous game designers are actually real people. Masahiro Sakurai is 47 years old, he probably doesn't spend a whole lot of his time on the internet on Reddit or "gamer Twitter" or 4chan where these memes originate. While you may think spamming his Twitter with images of Waluigi porn is funny, he almost certainly doesn't. Anyways, tirade over, moral of the story, I don't like memes.
This has to be one of the weirdest movie tie-in games ever. It's coming out months after the film it's "based" on, and looks like it's barely related to the plot of the film. Even the tone is completely different. Who at Universal OK'd this game? That being said, I'm definitely going to get it. Looks like a good time, and it's by WayForward, who rarely disappoint.
I remember the original Epic Mickey so much because of how excited I was for it and how much I disliked it by the time I finished. So many of the game's objectives seemed like fetch quests to me. At some point I'll have to replay it, but I remember it as being not very good.
Looks cool. I'm sure I'll download it and play around with it. Also, anyone remember SMBX? The fan made Mario level editor? Had way more features than Mario Maker. That was a cool level editor.
"Imagine cyclopean bosses pursuing you under the skin of a verdant moon across kilometres of terrain, scatting buildings and native life in its wake until you finally lure it to a battlefield of your choosing - a ringed gas giant dominating the sky overhead."
Uh... What? I respect this dude as a creator, but I think he's way off base with this. I don't really see how a cinematic scene like that could work in a way that's cohesive with the design of Metroid games. All I want from Metroid Prime 4 is a game similar in structure and design as the first three, while introducing new elements. Not something completely different like this gentleman seems to be describing.
@k8sMum I assume a lot of these people treat Nintendo like a religion and just assume everyone can shell out 300+ dollars on superfluous entertainment devices. Either that or they're just young kids who have video games and systems bought for them and no knowledge of the value of money, cost of living, the importance of saving, etc
In Canada, the Switch + one game will probably be something like 520 dollars. Unless you want to just buy the system and stare at the menus. This issue could've probably been fixed by having a pack-in game.
Shift is one of the classic flash games from back in the day. The visuals from this release look a little compressed, but I guess it's necessary if it's on a smaller screen. It's a shame the levels from Shift 3 and 4 aren't included.
The fact of the matter is, if the Switch's capabilities are not on par with the PS4's and Xbox One's, it won't receive key third-party ports which are necessary for it to sell well. As much as plenty Nintendo fans pretend otherwise, third-party software matters. Being able to play a combination of third and first-party software is important to any console. If the Wii U has taught us anything, it's that Nintendo's efforts to "innovate" post-Wii are not going to be as successful as they believe.
I like old-school Kanye, haven't been so big on his last few records, but I will definitely pick this one up just based on the weird name and track titles alone.
The Virtual Boy has appeared and been referenced in plenty of games before now. It's in Tomodachi Life, it's in Animal Crossing: New Leaf, it's in Game & Wario and it's respective stage in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, it's in the collection room in Super Smash Bros. Melee, and it's titles are listed in the chronicle of Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Reggie Fils-Aime is seen playing one in a promo for the 2015 Nintendo World Championships. Nintendo has never really denied the Virtual Boy's existence.
Shinzo Abe reminds me of Stephen Harper of Canada. Anyways, watched this live last night, and it was a pleasant surprise to see Pac-Man and Mario. Seeing Mario & Sonic at Tokyo 2020, their home turf, will be interesting to say the least.
I think there's three problems people have had with this game leading up to launch: 1. The super-deformed art style, which we've never seen in a Metroid game before. 2. The gameplay being more a team-based shooter as opposed to the usual Metroid adventure-exploration type game. 3. The player characters aren't Samus. If the game had had one of those things, but kept the rest of the Metroid Prime formula the same, people probably would've been more excited and less upset. But because it had all three, the game pretty much doesn't resemble Metroid at all. But then again, if the game is fun, who cares?
I love Metroid II, but I know in my heart it's not a very good game. Hopefully this remake fixes things while retaining the weird spirit Metroid II has. It's really not quite like any other Metroid game. Also, it'd be great if someone could do a remake of Metroid Fusion. That game is so horrible it makes my blood boil.

Game Freak are just monumentally inept devs. They don't even try to hide it anymore. I'm a diehard Pokémon fan and even I have to admit it now.
