I only played it for a little bit last night but I found the controls to be rather cumbersome and not very fun to play. I'll have to play it a few more times to have a more complete idea of what it's really all about.
What is up with this sudden interest in Nintendo marketing retro NES stuff? The NES 30th anniversary was last year. This seems like it's come straight out of the blue.
Something about this game seems soulless. The graphics may be pretty and have plenty of paper-esque flairs, but somehow the whole thing comes across as not being as charming as the previous games.
The Activision Ghostbusters games on NES were not that great, I gotta say. The HAL Laboratory-made New Ghostbusters II, however, is an awesome game and one everyone should play
I'm a big fan of Sega racers and I like the art style, so I'd definitely pick this one up. Why haven't more faux-retro games use that 90s arcade/N64/PS1 low-poly style?
I've never really felt that open-world game design worked. It's always kind of a case of exploring empty space for the sake of exploring. Most of the time, there's nothing interesting to be discovered.
I don't know about this one. It seems to me it might end up cannibalising the Virtual Console, which could prompt Nintendo to pay even less attention to the neglected service. Also, in what universe is something that costs 60 dollars "stocking fodder"? Are we just using this as a synonym for Christmas gift? This thing just reminds me too much of those similar systems done by Atari, Coleco and Sega, all of which have been of dubious quality. It doesn't seem like something a company like Nintendo should be doing.
What I want most from the overwhelming success of Pokemon Go is to see people who haven't been in the fold when it comes to Pokemon get reintroduced to the franchise and interested in the new Pokemon games on Nintendo consoles going forward. And not just in the "Wow I'm so cool I bought a 3DS and am playing Pokemon LOL SO NERDY 90'S KIDS REPRESENT" way, and then sell their 3DS weeks later.
I'm sure if this live-action adaptation happens, it won't be following the story or characters of the anime series or the video games. Really, I just can't see how a live-action Pokemon movie would work. The premise is just too strange to work in a live-action setting. Unless they did a super-meta movie about a person playing Pokemon Go or something, which could be interesting.
Toys-to-Life as a whole has just lost it's luster for me. They clutter game stores and electronics aisles. Amiibo are probably the worst offenders because of how useless they are in most games, or worse, lock things away in games that usually wouldn't be behind the paywall. Although, as a kid, I always wanted to see more Nintendo toys, so I can totally see their appeal for children. I would prefer if they were just statuettes or action figures, and didn't impact games themselves.
I'm not a huge fan of the series, but Pikmin 4 would be a solid launch title to go alongside the NX. Not sure it would exactly sell consoles, but it would be nice.
@NintendoFan64 @Kmno The funny thing is, the whole idea that Mario only needs one RPG series makes no sense, considering they released New Super Mario Bros U, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze and Yoshi's Wooly World, three different 2D platformers all on the Wii U alone.
I actually really like this low-poly PS1 / N64 look, although this game isn't a perfect example of doing that style right. In any event, I'm interested.
I have a lot of fond memories of coming home from school at the start of a new month and checking the mailbox to see if Nintendo Power had come, and I'm sure plenty ONM subscribers had similar experiences. These magazines had something special to them that online news and video broadcasts can't replicate.
This is pretty nuts. How does it even work? Was never really a huge Minecraft player so all these new updates are foreign to me. Is this all in vanilla Minecraft?
When did this turn of younger kids away from consoles and handhelds happen? Like after what year of birth does the number of kids who care about console gaming drop off? If dedicated gaming hardware has lost out to phones and tablets when it comes to kids playing games, then it's certainly a sad day.
It's definitely aimed towards children. I'm sure if I was the age to watch Disney Channel I would've enjoyed this type of thing. The puppet is cool looking! And the criticism of it being "a big ad" is true, but, then again, so is E3, and plenty of grown adults still watch that nonsense.
It needs to be as powerful as the Xbox Scorpio and the PlayStation 4 "Neo" or whatever. The NX can have a crazy weird GamePad controller all it wants, but it needs to be comparable on a technical level.
The problem I have with the whole censorship thing is that it's really more of an artistic thing. The team who created this game obvious had a certain idea in mind when creating it, and the localisation obviously doesn't stay true to that original vision in certain areas. I think Nintendo and Atlus need to understand that audiences in other regions who purchase their games, especially ones like #FE, probably already have the prior knowledge needed to understand the cultural context of the game. Am I secretly a fetishist with a thing for little polygonal girls? Obviously not. I just think that, on some level, entertainment products are art, and that these products from other regions of the world shouldn't get censored, even if it comes from within the publisher. Generally, people should be more aware and understanding of the differences in values around the world. But, at the end of the day, it's just a video game, so enjoy it however you like.
I'm glad. Fans who think the developers' intention or vision has been altered by the "localisation" process can enjoy the game the way they want. I never saw the point in changing so much for this release, considering people who purchase it probably already understand the cultural differences between Japan and the west.
Didn't Nintendo pull out of Brazil due to taxes on video games? Or was that some other South American country? Anyways, as a Canadian, the Vancouver Mario & Sonic game the 2010 Olympics holds a special place in my heart, so hopefully these versions do the same for Brazilians (if they're even being sold there).
Capcom made an intelligent move in regards to RE7's tone, especially after things like Outlast and P.T. proved so popular (yes I know it's been in development for ages), so maybe now they see that Mighty No. 9's reception has been less than stellar, they'll release Mega Man 11 to try and get back in the good graces of fans? We can only hope.
8 definitely takes the cake as worst in the classic series. And if we're talking Mega Man as a whole there's always Mega Man X5. And basically every X game after that one.
I don't really see the purpose of having the choice. What difference does it make? Plenty of guys play as female characters like Samus or Lightning. If games with female protagonists suddenly featured a male option I don't think people would be as welcoming...
Never understood a lot of the criticisms the GameCube Mario Party games get. 5 had some great boards and the capsules (don't forget the Super Duel mode in the tanks!), 6 had the day-night cycle which would change certain things on the board and in minigames, 7 had a fantastic 8-player mode. I feel the notion that the GameCube parties are less good or more bland is pretty much based purely in nostalgia.
This movie is an underrated classic. Hoskins, Leguizamo, Hopper and Shaw are all brilliant actors. The production design by David L. Snyder (of Blade Runner fame) is gorgeous. It only suffered from Morton and Jankel's conflicting direction. I could go on for hours about how much I love this movie. Re-watch it and you might be surprised at how much fun it actually is!
@RainbowGazelle I feel you brother. The last two years they did these Treehouse day-long streams they were painful to watch. Only the Twitch chat making fun of them made it bearable.
If going into your local EBgames /GameStop / GAME or whatever and asking for a Darkrai code really bugs you, learn to care less about what other people think.
In any event, I dig when these are codes, usually me and a friend go up and get codes while simultaneously browsing games and Pokemon cards. It's a fun ritual.
I enjoyed these when I played the demo. Perhaps if someone made a game like this with the train sim stuff but then mixed it with another genre to cover for the repetition and boringness?
You'd think Nintendo would have looked at the PS4's incredible sales figures and come to the conclusion that the general video-game playing public just wants a normal controller. But I'm no industry analyst, so who knows?
But in all seriousness I can't understand why anyone wouldn't vote for Bernie, unless you're ultra-conservative. Look up his policies and read them. I doubt there's many you'd disagree with. Don't let the mainstream media tell you he can't win, or that his platform is too expensive. Be skeptical. Do your own research. And remember that you live in a democracy, not an oligarchy and that by putting the Wii U controller or 3DS down and voting, you can make the change in your government.
I also don't get the whole 'entitled fans' meme that some people on the internet complain about. Nintendo is selling a product, and people as consumers are choosing to express their disappointment and distaste for said product. There's no entitlement there, and no, you don't need to act as the Nintendo Defense Force and take it personally when people criticize Nintendo.
Rewatched the trailer and it has a similar map system to Sticker Star and the cards seem to mirror the stickers a lot. A bit disappointing and kind of a sucker-punch.
Everyone's hopes/dreams: Pokemon Sun and Moon trailer, Zelda U gameplay or title, Metroid Federation Forces announced to have been drastically re-worked, Great Ace Attorney localisation Reality: 40 minutes of Monster Hunter which has already been out in Japan for a year, Hyrule Warriors 3DS, Twilight Princess HD, Pokken Fighters nonsense and, of course, Amiibo.
I think most of us realize that localization is an incredibly difficult and delicate 'damned if you do, damned if you don't' process, but we should not be defending censorship. Fire Emblem and Fatal Frame are both very Japanese games aimed at a very specific audience in America, so censoring things in these games and angering fans makes little sense. Also, games get ratings from the ESRB for a reason.
I don't think a delay for Star Fox Zero matters that greatly in the long run. I'm sure many will be disappointed, but I think it's more important to suffer the delay and allow the game to release as complete and polished as possible. Besides, it probably doesn't even matter when it comes out. Star Fox isn't Zelda or Super Smash Bros. It's not a system seller. I don't think delaying it a few more months will damage sales. (Also, I'm loving the new look Nintendo Life has.)
