Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (May 16th)

I git Kirby Mass Attack on DS, and Resident Evil: Revelations on Switch!

Mass Attack has some of the all time greatest sprite work! And it does scratch that Pikmin itch just a little!

Resident Evil Revelations is no RE4, and I don’t have the systems to play the REmakes... but it too is filling the void in a series that I love. I’m glad it’s on Switch!!

I picked up a 3DS a few weeks ago, I’d never owned one and my partner has been hogging the Switch on account of Animal Crossing.

Every game is a brand new experience and I feel like I’ve achieved gaming Nirvana! I finished Link Between Worlds and Rayman 3D. (I also Tried Professor Layton and realized I might be too dumb)

But this weekend it’s all about Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey! It was the only game at Target that wasn’t a Nintendo first party, so I jumped in blind. This game is friggin wild!

Re: The Top Ten Best-Selling Games For Wii U, 3DS, Wii And DS (As Of March 2020)

These lists are often... frustrating. Nintendo is my very favorite company, and they make all of my favorite series. However these lists always have my least favorite games dominating them. Pokemon and Smash, in the DS/Wii era it was so many “casual” games.

I know these games are what keep the company afloat and able to do other things. It’s just boring I guess. I wish the series I like sold as well.

@OorWullie I wouldn’t give the edge to either. It’s a Banjo Kazooie vs Mario 64 type thing. Two very different games but both excellent

Lucky is less of story and clever writing, but far more consistently fun and stronger graphically. Hat in Time does more interesting things with its world and characters but is frustrating with some of its mechanics and looks a tad more dated.

I have just gotten into the Witcher 3, and animal crossing comes out at the perfect time to play it’s foil.

But I’m not in the same situation as most people. I work in a grocery store and if I can say this without setting off the censors - it’s hell. We are stocking shelves and running out as soon as we’ve stocked. I’m so busy all the time. But the company knows that it’s more stressful than ever so they’ve raised over time to an insane rate that I couldn’t NOT go work all the time... right? sigh

Re: Guide: 8 Steps To Making Your Gaming Backlog A Thing Of The Past

Donutsavant

As a backlog clearing professional, I would add just a few things that help me.

1. Be as scrupulous as you like!
—— there are too many games in the world that look neat and no one will ever play everything if the buy Willy nilly. I only buy Switch games, and will only buy it if it has a physical release. There are a few exceptions, but for the most part if a game looks anywhere from a 7-8 range and it is digital only I will skip it!

2. Make rewards!
—— There are certain games that look promising, but that I will only allow myself to buy if I finish a required number of other games first. I had to finish 10 games before I purchased the Witcher 3, and that worked out perfectly! Other rewards were for things like Final Fantasy 10. I still have yet to buy it because I have to do the post game on Dragon Quest 11. I really want to get FFX, so now I am motivated to actually pick up DQXI again. Etc

I have cleared my proper backlog, and am trying not to finish Darksiders Genesis too quickly. So I’ve been diving into the dungeon of games I gave up on with out intent to return to.
Minit is the first of these games that I dug up! Once I googled help for the part I was stuck on I zoomed through the rest. It was wonderful!

Tonight I am going to give Mulaka a second look!

Re: The Witcher 3 Switch Dev Saber Interactive Snapped Up By THQ Nordic Parent Company

Donutsavant

THQNordic is my favorite 3rd party Dev for a lot of reasons, and I see this as only good news.

If they use the studio in the way I would, they would have them making comparable ports of their biggest games heading to PS4. This deal could bring us Biomutant, Destroy All Humans, and (this one is just for me I guess) Darksiders 3.

Aside from a few egregious collectors editions, I think that THQNordic has so much capital because of their smart release decisions so far. The overhead on ports is so low, and by all accounts their strategic releases mixed in with a few smart newer titles have bought them a lot of good will. I have 14 Nintendo published games and 7 THQNordic games, no other publisher even cracks 3 titles on my Switch!

After making it to the 3rd Idolasphrere in Tokyo Mirage Sessions I am taking a break. It’s my second playthrough, the first having been summer of 2016 on the Wii U. I remember the game as pretty much perfect!

However I n the nearly 4 years since Tokyo Mirage Sessions has come out and my last playing of it, two things in particular about myself has changed. The first of which is that I cannot stand texting, and won’t be bothered to keep up with anyone in my life via texting save for my partner... and there is so much texting!

Also my general tolerance for anime nonsense is far less. :I I’m sure I’ll go back to it soon enough. But somehow that’s the last game in my backlog! Woe is me

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (January 18th)

I did pick up Tokyo Mirage Sessions yesterday, and I hope to get to that at some point.

The big fish of the weekend is finishing Oninaki. I believe I am at the very end, and I am just so happy with this game. The upgrade system has had me grinding for weeks - something I don’t believe that I have done since Kingdom Hearts 2 so long ago. The story too is unique, and more competently told than any JRPG I can think of in quite some time.

Tokyo RPG Factory is such a weird studio. I Am Setsuna wasn’t terrific, though I had such a weird spark to it. The snow aesthetic and piano soundtrack gave it a real flavor despite its mediocrity. Lost Sphear felt even more generic from the demo (though I could be convinced to take a second look.) But with Oninaki I think they have a genuine hit on their hands! I want to see what they will do next! The art is great, the music is beautiful! I don’t hate any of the characters. I can’t wait to get home and finish it
