The popular free-to-play action RPG Genshin Impact was confirmed for the Nintendo Switch last January, so what's the latest?
According to Genshin Report - a Twitter account focused exclusively on coverage of Genshin Impact news and leaks, the Nintendo version of the game should finally be arriving at some point this year despite supposed issues with "weaker hardware".
In a follow-up tweet, it's suggested that the game might get pushed back even further, and could end up being a "Switch Pro exclusive" - a newer model Switch that has been rumoured for a while now.

Keep in mind, developer and publisher miHoYo has not shared any official statement about the status of the Switch version in recent times, so for now, it's probably best to treat this information as nothing more than a rumour.
DualShockers also mentions how this isn't the first time there have necessarily been rumours about the Switch version of Genshin Impact being delayed due to technical issues. Previous setbacks have apparently been tied to "microtransaction implementations" and other problems such as eShop compatibility.
Although the game is available on many other platforms, the PlayStation 4 version, in particular, has experienced a number of performance and stability issues which is believed to be linked to poor optimisation rather than "weaker" hardware. miHoYo is also more familar with mobile development.
Is this a game you would be interested in trying out on your Nintendo Switch? Do you think technical issues might be delaying a Switch release? Leave a comment down below.

I think it is just a rumor and nothing more, I mean Look ad BOTW, I know there not the same game, but in terms of looks and stuff, I don't think hardware is an issue here, Switch ports just take time, I mean look at Apex legends.
I did not read after the rumor part.
I enjoy Nintendolife, but there are a lot of these articles based on rumours that are beginning to get a little frustrating. This isn’t good journalism - essentially making an entire article out of someone’s unverified Twitter claim. There are so many good writer and good articles on this site - it just seems a shame to have these ones.
Isn't this game available on mobile phones?
@Snatcher Yeah, I can't see hardware being the issue, either. If it can run on iPhone and Android, then it can definitely run on Switch!
The game is on mobile phones. Smells iffy to me.
And, by the by, reporting on rumours is part of being a journalist. You can't just wear blinkers and pretend to ignore leaks and rumours. If you don't like it, maybe don't click on it when it clearly says 'RUMOUR'
I’m afraid It’s no news but rumour season until E3. Apart for the odd don’t get your hope up it’s not at E3! E.g Silksong 🥲
"it's probably best to treat this information as nothing more than a rumour"
What, a tweet from another fanblog that speculates about "Switch Pro" while at it? You don't say. Besides, one would think any developer announcing a Switch port in 2020 would already know and be prepared for what hardware specs they're dealing with.
But hey, this article filled a slot and earned my click and comment, so mission accomplished, NL?😆
@JokerCK I'm here because I initially read everything in the title BUT the "rumour" part. I do goof up like that.
@Snatcher did they fix apex legends?
It'll probably coming to Switch Pro, if they had not released it yet it's likely they are waiting for the Switch Pro reveal first.
If they'd release a regular $60 retail version of this game without the microtransactions, I'd be all over this game.
@MJF Your going to have to go into what you mean by "Fix" do you mean how it looks on the switch, balancing, game play, glitches?
If anything not too surprising if true. It lagged and crashed on a decent laptop for myself. As for playing on phones, virtual controls make me want to claw my hands out so after an hour of playing, I decided to wait for the long term Switch release. If it never materialises, oh well.
There isn't going to be a switch pro! Stop saying switch pro! That's more of a sony thing to call an upgraded system a "pro" version. Besides Nintendo isn't that boring with their system names. Might as well say the Switch successor will be called Nintendo 8.
Coming soon Nintendo 8! It's so great! A system you wont hate! Preorder yours now don't be late!
I have played it for a bit on my iPad and it is a great dungeon crawler with definite similarities to BOTW (I actually preferred Genshin which puts my in a tiny minority).
It plays well on mobile due to the disparity in RAM - most phones released in the last few years have more than the 4 Gb than the switch and significantly faster processors
This game is on mobile, so I don't buy into the whole "the Switch isn't powerful enough" argument.
Genshin Impact runs on an iPhone 6, so to say the Switch, which runs Monster Hunter Rise, The Witcher 3, and even Crysis Remastered, is the problem, is a bit suspicious.
I wonder how many "Switch Pro exclusive" there will be... I admit I'm a bit afraid of that.
Honestly why would Nintendo make an upgraded switch at this point when the full on successor is likely only a couple years away if that? Seems like a pretty pointless and wasteful thing to do if you ask me. Wouldn't people who bought the upgrade feel cheated? Especially if it had exclusives and lasted a year before being quickly replaced.
For God sakes, this game is on mobile! It bothers me on how long it is taking for a port so easy. I held off on this game for so long because the Android version doesn't have controller support yet. The wait better be worth it!
@Zeldafan79 New 3DS? Kinda boring to me.
All I want is controller support for Android version..
@Richardwebb These rumors aren't from random 4chan users.
@Miu
Okay that and Wii U's name stank but usually they go for something more clever or colorful.
It can run on mobile, even if it looks awful.
I wonder if it's more of a future proofing issue - the game's file size is already big for a Switch game, and it only has 2 out of the 7 regions added. It's current state will probably manage but in 5 years? Who knows.
@CactusMan You don't need one for the PS4, so that's not true
"There have been issues with the weaker hardware."
(trombone) Wah wah wahhhhh.
For those saying that it can run on mobile - let's not forget that mobile processors are getting better and much more powerful now. The Tegra chip is weak by todays standards.. I can play Genshin Impact 1080p 60 fps without problem on my Android phone (SD 860) .. I doubt we can do the same with Switch..
At the end, we get what we pay for. Switch's price can only get us midrange Android phone nowadays
@Zeldafan79 Nintendo named the 7th and 8th Mario Kart Mario Kart 7 and Mario Kart 8.
@Miu True, but the Switch can't be that weak to not even get an acceptable framerate
So they just apply it to a rumoured future Switch Pro console just like that? Lol. It'll take another year or so to apply and develop for the new console. And we & they don't know anything about it's capabilities.
Yeah, rumour & a weak one
More to do with lack of effort and desire.
@Snatcher Well it may look like BotW but there is a huge difference between a first-party game directly made for a Nintendo console and a thirdparty game that also releases on PS4, PC etc..
And the performance on the PS4 already isn't great therefore I definitely can see this game struggling on Switch
@PigmaskFan must be a shock to learn that higj mid to high end phones are significatly more powerful than the switch
@Miu Who said anything about 60FPS.
I would expect it to run quite well on the Switch at 30 FPS with some settings turned down.
Yes the Switch is not as powerful as new phones. But remember that it still has quite a bit of power, it renders at lower resolution and it has no junk running in the background to slow it down like Android or iOS
@Miu
The game runs on an iPhone 6 and some mid range android devices, so the "Switch is too weak" argument isn't passing the smell test.
Developers are having difficulty porting it = weaker hardware. It's always the same
@John_Deacon Umm... Does no one remember the PS3?
Sounds very likely and very reasonable.
The hardware -IS- weaker, so it takes more effort to make decisions on where to cut, and where to experiment.
load of rubbish, if my phone can run it (less than 2ghz cpu with 4gb ram), the switch should be able to
@Pod
Ain't nowhere to cut if you use the moble game as a base.
The Switch runs Warframe for crying out loud.
@Pod Does no one think about the fact that they have to rewrite parts of the game and make new assets and menu changes for it to work with the Switch controls...
Also if they wan't to implement any features unique to the Switch that also takes extra time.
Yes of course they are going to spend time on optimizing the game but I highly doubt that is going to take up the majority of the time. The game is already running quite well on weaker systems
But don't expect 1080@60 on the Switch
I think they should not release it.
Even on the original PS4 it has a LOT of frame rate drops.
I believe it is bad optimised.
I don't see how this can be fixed.
No more b.s. ...and not big show
weaker hardware? this is a mobile game. so yeah. what ever. may be the company who makes the game is not that good of a company. give it to Capcom if you cannot handle. at least the switch can run some of its games on 1080p 60 frames per second. so please.
@Snatcher Apex legends at the very least runs on switch but it isn’t necessarily playable in a competitive sense. You can’t see anything when playing and the geometry is super deformed, but it is amazing that they got it to run on switch. I just wish that the resolution were higher.
@bobzbulder I agree, but thats what i'm saying, if they can at least get apex legends of all things to run on the switch, surly Ginshin can.
@Yorumi. yeah, who do these companies think there fooling? I am not buying it.
@The_New_Butler I mean, the PS5 cannot keep Returnal at 1080p 60FPS, and that is for a 500 dollar machine and the game is 70 bucks. Look at MHR. When developers try, the Switch can run some great looking games.
@tntswitchfan68 what the hell are you talking about? Returnal is locked 60 at 4k!
@diwdiws Uh, no it is not.
...man, this Switch Pro better be bloody real. Else I am going to come round to so many websites, Youtube sites and Twitter accounts and slap them around the chops. Probably kick Bloomberg in the you know where for starting it lol. Because at the moment, this is just gossip. It's not news. It's not infomation. It's gossip. And everyone is gossiping.
I mean it's definitely going to run sub 30 FPS. It's not like it's the best optimized game even on PS4. Only the next gen consoles seem capable of running it...not that people should play it. Glorified F2P mobile game trash that it is...
@diwdiws well, not native 4k. And, the framerate drops to 40 FPS sometimes.
Also, the Switch has the games. Nintendo has the better games. The PS5 is running on name brand. It is not the most powerful, nor does it have the best games.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/wccftech.com/returnal-upscaled-from-1080p-performance-mostly-60fps-drops/amp/
@The_New_Butler the point is, none of the consoles are near the power of a PC.
@The_New_Butler oh and by the way this is a nintendo site. if you do not like the Switch the go to push square the sony site and enjoy your 500 dollar door stop that has ZERO GREAT GAMES. Returnal the game is a mess. Spider Man, you can buy 10 bucks cheaper on PS4. What great games? Switch has BOTW, Mario Odyssey, AC, MHR, Smash Ultimate, Fire Emblem, XC 1 and 2, LM3, Astral Chain, Splatoon 2, and more.
So, instead of the excuse of stock shortages, the door stop PS5 does not have great games like the Switch.
Sony always does this. Their lineup stinks for over a year or two, and gamers are just supposed to accept it. When Nintendo does this, people jump ship automatically. I am just asking, why does Sony get a free pass? If we should hold Nintendo accountable for poor launches, we should Sony as well.
I dream of a Nintendo console that can play Nintendo games and not-miss-out-on-modern-games. I understand Nintendo's aim for affordable hardware, but needing to buy two consoles seems unnecessary.
@tntswitchfan68 What. The. Hell. Are. You. Talking. About.
@The_New_Butler I know, but it does show an agenda.
@diwdiws How the PS5 is underpowered.
@tntswitchfan68 how is the PS5 underpowered?
@The_New_Butler The new mobile chipsets are better, so if there is a Switch prp, maybe that will fix some of the problems.
@Richardwebb There is no news about Nintendo. No new games. No new announcements. It's all rumors, random, and soapbox articles because there is nothing to actually report.
Considering this is a mobile phone game and we have Doom Eternal, Witcher 3, Mortal Kombat 11 and Breath of the Wild I've been treating the "weaker hardware" line as BS. Considering UE4 is beyond scalable same with every other engine on Switch it's kinda suspect. If there is a budget there is a way. I understand if it requires porting the engine to Switch that it may not be worth the investment, but if the game is built on a 3rd party engine... Kinda close to no excuse at this point.
@Ambassador_Kong What? A lot of companies are going quiet. We will get news soon. Yeah, lots of news for PS5.
@tntswitchfan68 it cannot run most games at native 4K. For a newer, 500 dollar machine, it is underpowered. The Series X can put it to shame. ME runs at Native 4K 60fps and 1080p 120 fps. Not on the PS5.
I can run this at minimum settings on my crappy i3 Intel laptop with integrated graphics. I don't think hardware is the problem.
@tntswitchfan68 all consoles are underpowered compared to a mid-range PC. Not to be that guy, but in a normal market a $700 PC mops the floor with a $500 console. And before someone says $200 is a major cost difference you are also buying a PC which can do things a console can't like work applications, Adobe products, game development, and be a better entertainment hub... With also a far larger catalog of games for cheap. The Switch offers something a PC can't as it is far more portable than a gaming laptop and can hookup to the TV far easier. If you are buying a PS5 or a XSX/S you are doing do for exclusive games that a PC does not offer... Even then those are dwindling more by the day.
IMO the game can stay dead for the Switch.
@Wexter exactly. That is my point. If people want power, go tp a PC.
Runs Breath of the Wild, doesn't run Genshin... hmm...
Isn't most of the game cloud sourced anyway? And has a signal strength meter throughout?
@tntswitchfan68 That and if you invest a bit into your PC and get a high-mid-range machine it will last you close to a decade without any issues playing games at far higher settings than a console can. That and Steam and the Epic Store give away free games all the time without the need of a subscription service. That and Xbox Gamepass is a thing on PC as well. You can use whatever controller you want, enable gyro-aim in most Steam games with controller configuration. Plus with mod support you get the best version of almost every game as dedicated modders all the time release 4K texture packs that can make your old favourites feel fresh again! That AND you don't need to worry about paying for online play either... I used to really not be a PC gamer until I got burned on the PS4 and now I love it!
My advice for people is to save their money a bit longer and just invest in a PC. Unless you really want to play FFVII Remake Part 2 or the new God of War.
I highly doubt that "weaker hardware" is the issue here. If that was the case, it would have trouble running on mobile devices, which are not as powerful as dedicated consoles.
As much as I want to play it on the Switch, right now, I'm playing it on PC, although I do also have it on iOS. I only just began playing a few days ago, after putting it off for so long.
@The_New_Butler Hence my point was in a normal market. Right now due to parts shortages PC parts are getting scalped hard. That and sites like NewEgg have sales all the time on high-end parts in a normal market. It takes some time, but the PS5 and XSX are really not close to a mid-range to high-end PC. They are nice pieces of tech, but to be honest, you are also saving in other areas on PC such as game sales, not having to pay for Xbox Gold or PS+ and if you get a game for free on PC you never have to worry about it being taken away because you are not paying for a subscription service. Most costs a PC have are one-time purchases compared to the close to $500-$700 you spent on PS+ or Xbox Gold in the past 10 years (God help your bank account if you have both).
That and mouse and keyboards are really cheap for the most part and you can use them for decades! I know some PC gamers who have never changed out their setup since the mid-00s because the build quality of a good keyboard can last 20+ years (some have not changed their keyboard since the late-1990s because they love their old-school mechanical keyboards and just buy an adapter to keep it current). That and my other point is you can still use your favourite controllers that you already own with the machine. And Windows you can actually get for free and disable the "activate Windows prompt" in legitimate ways.
It requires a little know-how, but PC gaming is very liberating once you get into it. I almost never turn on my PS4 anymore except the odd round of NHL and a Sony exclusive.
It's not an excuse.😂😂😂😂😂.
@Ambassador_Kong It's mainly nintendo who are being quiet although Sony and Microsoft are. What's suspicious is why Nintendo are being the quiietist.
@Snatcher Yeah I guess you’re right.
Genshin Impact is poorly optimized in general, but yeah, regardless of the feelings of many people on this site the Switch is quite underpowered.
@Wexter That and PC is modular so it's very easy to swap SSD, RAM and everything.. very large library of games and having a powerful hardware is so convenient to handle our daily tasks.
But since I like exclusive games on PS4/PS5, I still end up buying one.. so many exclusive JRPG there for me.
@Liam_Doolan I know these rumour articles always get a lot of heat but I just wanted to commend you on your restraint b/c I could easily see the title of this article being "Rumour: Genshin Impact May be a Switch Pro Exclusive" and you'd have the tweet to back you up. So, nice on dialing it back a notch. 👍
@Miu that is my only knock against PC gaming is the lack of JRPGs, but that is slowly changing.
@The_New_Butler I'm also very patient and don't buy games on release and wait for a Steam sale that I like. As for peripherals, you really don't need something super expensive a solid mechanical keyboard and gaming mouse does not need to cost someone $200. Look around, maybe buy used, and you're fine.
And some people want something simple, and consoles try to do that. But I just don't like all the hidden costs in consoles now, and I don't feel a sale on the level of Steam Summer sales happen as often. That and Gamepass on PC is super convenient as I get the best of owning an Xbox without owning an Xbox.
But, for me, my Switch is my favourite gaming device. But, honestly, until something really compelling like Persona 6 or FFVIIRemake Part 2 comes out, I might skip the PS5 (this is coming from someone who owned every Sony console before including a Vita). I'm just tired of Sony and the BS they do from game censoring (even worse than Nintendo), lack of fully embracing mod support, lack of cross-platform play and charging me so much for PS+. I don't feel like the "free" games they offer are all that great most of the time, that and the lack of gyro integration with shooter games. Let's also not forget about how they charge you so much for propriety memory instead of using modular components. Hence why I'm pleased with my PC and Switch and do want more people heading PC because it is super liberating once you get set up to play how you want to and have a truly custom experience.
@DannyBoi Occam's Razor. They have nothing to talk about.
They released an underpowered console that is two generations behind and third parties are not interested in developing for it. All we're going to see is the occasional port, indy game, and whatever bone Nintendo decides to throw out when they're not to busy counting all the money they're making off selling replacement joy cons.
It's the WiiU, Wii, Gamecube, N64 all over again.
@Zeldafan79 The president of Nintendo of Japan said the switch was around half way through it's lifecycle recently so it has roughly 4+ years of life left yet
@Ambassador_Kong It's really not all that underpowered. It's a bit behind the PS4, but as far as mobile hardware goes when it came out the Switch was very impressive. It needs a refresh, but we are seeing diminishing returns on not just consoles, but also PC hardware. So the Switch line can even out with the PS5 and XSX without much sacrifice provided the new Nivida mobile chips keep rolling out.
Mobile hardware is the future.
@Zeldafan79
The Switch is now 4 years old.
A normal console cycle is about 7 years.
A Switch Pro (we are calling it that, because of the lack of a better word) that is released end of this year or beginning of the next could still have a lifetime of about 2 years (could be more, could be less), that is as much time as there was between DSi and 3DS for example. Considering how successful the Switch is, there also isn't much of a reason to cut the generation short.
I don't know if there will be a Switch Pro, but it wouldn't be too late for that yet.
This has nothing to do with hardware.
This has a lot more to do with Japan's deteriorating relationships with China since Covid 19.
Not gonna get further into it but Japan has been giving incentives to Japanese companies to move their operations out of China. Not hard to figure out whats going on here.
@Snatcher the difference between genshin and botw is that botw runs in an engine made for wii u and switch while genshin uses unity. Unity is taxing no matter the hardware, so yes it's a hardware bottleneck causing this.
so yes, it's deffinitely a hardware bottleneck causing the game's development to go MIA
@Casual_Gamer95 And Genshin needs constant internet connection too.. what could go wrong with Switch's hardware?
the phone in my pocket (s10+) is way more powerful than a switch so no surprise there. The people that say the switch's specs have nothing to do with the development going MIA have no clue what they're talking about. Unless you own a very old mobile device, your phone is most likely more powerful than your switch, so yes, the hardware is part of the problem. And mentioning witcher 3 and stuff doesn't change the fact that these games look super rough in comparison to any other platforms, they had to massively downgrade them because of the hardware, so stop saying the switch's hardware is never part of the problem. The tegra x1 dates from 2014, by mobile standards it's been long obsolete by now.
@PigmaskFan not really a good example, there are already plenty of phones, matching or exceeding the Switch in raw power.
I think the issue with Genshin is the engine, people always make the same mistake by only looking at the graphics, but they forget that the engine itself could be heavy.
Look a Minecraft on PC which has ray tracing, I bet people would still say "but it's just pixel art!" but looks only tell half the story, just because 1 game (for example Doom Eternal, which has a excellent optimised engine) can run on the Switch, doesn't mean one with a less optimised engine (like Genshin) can do that too.
I call bs. This game is on mobile hardware and the switch can run Doom Eternal.
Genshin impact even runs on my 2015 IPhone 6s. I am sure the switch can handle it
@Dizzard i hope you know an iphone 8 is stronger than a switch
@Casual_Gamer95 this game runs on an iPhone 6s. Which came out in 2015.
@Casual_Gamer95 the problem is the engine they are using. Unity engine isn’t exactly great for 3D games
@Rayquaza2510 yeah. Unity engine isn’t exactly great for making 3D games.
Also unity engine is mainly for mobile games and consoles such as switch and PS4 will have issues with those games
@anoyonmus and apple chips were more advanced gpu wise than qualcomm chips in 2015, that's why it gets away with it.
@anoyonmus and the Tegra chip the Switch uses came out before the A9 in the iPhone 6S.
Graphical wise Nvidia their chip is better than the Apple one, but CPU wise it is not and I would not be surprised if the performance issues with Genshin lay there.
@Miu there is a difference between streaming a game, and needing a connection online. genshin loads textures and whatnots from the device you're playing, so the hardware still has to render it in real time.
Switch a weak console? when we have Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild, Monster Hunter Rise, Doom Eternal, this seen more like a typical answer to not release this game on Switch.
@Rayquaza2510 note that the game is using unity engine as well. I think that could also be an issue
@Rayquaza2510 the two biggest switch bottlenecks are its CPU and RAM, both are so slow they always cause problems while porting games to the platform. I've read somewhere that bandai wanted the latest SAO game on switch but when they tried porting it they ran into RAM bottlenecks and they stopped the project since.
@Giancarlothomaz oh no it’s not that.
It is just the hatred between China and Japan rn.
@Giancarlothomaz yes, the switch is weak, in fact weaker than the xbox one from 2012, it's a known fact.
@Casual_Gamer95 Oh I actually agree with your point.. just wanna add that online part
Quote from a Reddit user:
The Switch is not a powerful console, and they're deluding themselves if they think it is. It doesn't mean the Switch is bad, but trying to make it out to be something more than it actually is just makes them look like a fanboy.
@anoyonmus CPU wise Switchs CPU is 2014 technology
@Miu in my opinion the switch should only get 2d, old 3d games and exclusives. that's what it's good for. most recent third party games aren't great and they cost more than the better versions.
yet there are still people begging for even bigger games like scarlet nexus and tales of arise. But if it becomes a reality they'll rant about how it doesn't run well.
Yeah these articles can be a little tiresome, but in NL’s defense, it’s sort of fun (and optional) to talk rumors with the community. Plus it’s clearly labeled under the “rumor” label... so don’t click if you don’t like it. Clearly plenty of us click and comment, so they keep doing it.
That said... maybe back it off just a bit NL ha.
@diwdiws true ig. But have you noticed what engine the game is using?
@Casual_Gamer95 Yep I agree.. only bought Switch for exclusive first party games and VN. For third party games, definitely PS4 or PC for me.. not worth it even with its 'portability' when it downgrades too much with some performance issue at unreasonable price.
Why is it that Nintendo can make the most beautiful games but all these other developers want to blame the hardware it’s bs.
@Hero-of-WiiU that's because it really is a hardware problem. games made for one piece of hardware always look better than third party games. see god of war on ps4 or horizon or any big profile exclusive on ps4. Multiplats games have to deal with millions of different pcs, and two other consoles which all have better hardware than a switch. so what's your point?
@Miu i buy every big game on pc, i no longer have a switch but if the next model allows for 60fps in most games i'll get it. 30fps and less is un-appealing to me even in handheld gaming fashion
You're telling me the Switch, which can run Witcher, MH Rise, BoTW, and other more graphically intense games no problem, can't run Genshin Impact? Sure thing Grandpa, let's get you back to bed.
@Dizzard See how it runs on most phones, many times it looks like a PowerPoint presentation, yeah, depends on the phones, but i think this game was clearly made with more powerful hardware in mind
@abbyhitter Like that will ever happen. Genshin is another one of those gatcha games that is a BOTW clone which has anime characters that weebs will easily fawn over and spend real life money to make their characters look "cute".
Meanwhile like the rest of us with any decent amount of taste, I'm waiting for the sequel for Breath of the Wild.
Weak hardware, or poorly-optimized CCP garbage stitched together using blatently stolen resources?
Regarding the frequency of rumour articles, people generally aren't in the habit of visiting a website to not read the articles. Though I think this one can likely get a pass, there are perhaps one too many that are based solely on the odd partially coherent tweet sent out by particularly strange internet characters waving every flag there is to wave under the sun. Something a little more substantial, even an opinion article about the topic using the tweet as a supporting point, would make for a meatier and more interesting read.
@abbyhitter Don't forget about optional offline.
@Richardwebb I think it’s fair to say that the Nintendo console is in a major slump, and finding things to write about my be difficult right now. Writing about a rumor is fine, especially when the article goes on to state “hey guys, just a rumor so take this report lightly.” In terms of journalism, this site is mainly high quality, so the occasional small story like this one shouldn’t be viewed as out of place. There is room for big stories like the history of the Game Genie that just got put out, and room for the small stories, like this and the box art brawl articles.
@Ambassador_Kong Thank you for that post, I was starting to think I was the only person that felt that way about those consoles. I’m pretty convinced the Switch isn’t going to get any more meaningful software, at this point. I keep checking my sources but yeah, it’s a dry oasis.
@Ufoagogo Those games were heavily downgraded to run on the Switch, to be fair. And compared with what’s out there, I would hardly call BOTW “graphically intense.”
@Yorumi I get what you’re saying, but a $700 pre-built PC these days probably won’t even have a dedicated GPU, let alone one that will mop up the PS5. I just bought a pre-built PC last month and it was ridiculous finding anything of quality for under $1000. Glad I was able to find what I did, though. Got a killer setup now for $1300 that will keep me busy for the next 15 years, with what I play!
So a mobile game is too powerful for the Switch?....something isn't adding up here
@Bizzyb that's actually not the issue, a lot of people including me mentioned the true issue here
Will it run if I smash a PS4 on the ground?
@Snatcher Yeah, and BotW was built by the people who MADE the hardware and it still ran like crap at launch. Even now it's pretty rough at parts.
@Zeldafan79 not boring with their names? Bro , they literally called the enhanced version of the 3ds the “new” 3ds. Like let’s not try and be too much of a fanboi here
@Dizzard It can, but when you blow up the image to the size of a Monitor or TV, it looks really disgusting. Meaning that the game would demand much more power to consoles as it is in a much higher resolution. It still should be able to run on switch though.
@Yorumi I've seen plenty of the game through footage online. If anything, it's a mish-mash of action JRPG elements with BOTW thrown in. I'm not sure what it is I'm missing out on exactly?
Maybe if Nintendo would make some powerful hardware for once, then they wouldn't be having these issues.
@Ambassador_Kong
LMAO 🤣
@Casual_Gamer95 i aware Switch is weak compared to last/next gen consoles, but even compared with this consoles, Switch recieved some impressive ports and games such as Monster Hunter Rise, Doom Eternal and many more.
this is not surprising the Switch IS weak outdated hardware
Uhhh is this Twitter user an actual miHoYo leaker or just some random guy?
@Yorumi (referring to your comment about Genshin being unplayable on mobile) It depends on what mobile device you're using, I find the game runs better on my Galaxy S10+ than my PS4. I sometimes play it on my phone for a couple hours at a time and I don't have problems with crashing or overheating. I'm not running on the minimum settings either.
@Wexter I have a PS4 and I can assure you the Switch is not "just behind" the PS4. It might be a bit ahead of the PS3, but I've not seen anything on it that comes close to Uncharted or Last of Us or the Tomb Raider game, so it's hard to be sure.
This is it. THIS is what zibbacornmealdome was getting at. He predicted, he saw, he conquered redditwitter. All hail king zhell and Phil Spencer playing chicken with genshin zeldpact
When will switch pro be released?
Well, it definitely won’t be exclusive to a fictional platform. I hope the part about it coming out this year is true, though.
Doesn't this game also run on tablets and such? I don't buy this excuse.
People saying "but it's on phones" need to realise that higher end phones have pretty much better graphics, more cores and more RAM. The switch pro is a must at this rate and hopefully will release in time for pokemon legends which looks like it needs it
Are people upset about the Switch Pro or the fact that after 5 years games need new hardware to run on? Nintendo is literally sitting on releases to come out with the Pro lol
@onery Same but i'm not sure how "decent" my laptop is at running games
@Richardwebb I agree... Though, to be fair, Nintendo hasn't really been giving them much to report on, lol
Genshin Impact has some of the most shamefully bad lag and stuttering issues on other consoles, namely the PS4 AND PS4 pro. Those need to get fixed before I would even consider downloading this game on switch.
People need to keep their expectation in check of what a low-end ARM based system with 4GB of RAM and no dedicated video memory can do in 2021. Not surprising if this game only released for enhanced Switch.
It's performance on base PS4 is not great. They must be holding it back for the Switch Pro.
@the_beaver fr
"weaker hardware" or more like "weaker development" ??
I mean, look at Monster Hunter Rise and now tell me if is not WAY techically superior than that "Genshin Weebact". When developers cant or not want (for Sony money most of the time, hello Atlus) do something they always find stupid excuses. The most common one for the switch is the usual "weak hardware".
Anyway, is a ***** weeb game, who cares, we didnt lost anything good.
@Heavyarms55 Exactly, is a HUGE excuse. Probably Breath of the Wild 2 will be 10 times bigger, 10 times graphically better and run 10 time faster than this weeb trash.
But hey, its all hardware fault.
Weak hardware? Pish. My phone (a 2GB RAM LG Rebel 4) shouldn't be running Dragalia Lost, I still play it daily. Pocket Camp, not so much....
Well, yeah. Switch is clearly a great piece of hardware design and has some great ports (Witcher 3, Doom Eternal, Alien Isolation, Hellblade). But it also has limits, and we are at them in terms of what PS4 games can be converted. Especially games that by all accounts don't run great on PS4 anyway.
Yeah, I don't buy the "weaker hardware" excuse considering this is a mobile game. The dev being more used to mobile than consoles is a much more sensible explanation.
Yeah i dont think so..imagine this game to be released at the same time as hyrule warriors..look at the similarity. Nintendo had just to protect their ip ;D
We get Tony Hawk soon. Nothing else matters.
That's some serious "bull$hit".
I hope they "take a really nice trip".
And then "land safely".
This could absolutely be a CPU or Network card issue. Less likely to be GPU.
The Switch CPU is based on the 2014 A57 which was relatively weak at release, it’s massively behind current smartphones, particularly Apple’s. MiHoYo, the game’s developer, have proved to be not great at optimisation, PS4 & Pro and to a lesser extent PS5 all struggle with this game.
Genshin Impact also requires an always on Internet connection and again the Switch Network hardware is not great.
...I really would love for this game to not like come out at all, its just another gacha 'give me money because I look cute' type "game"... a lot of people fell for it, sad honestly, and gross how th...this is applauded ugh..just addiction, what else can I comment differently about the obvious..
Don't get me wrong I love the characters design, story looks eh interesting but I despise on why it was brought up to be...a cash grab.
Disappointed. Anyway the switch not being able to handle this game doesn't surprise me when it can't even handle 3ds games 😒....sad...really...so much for a hybrid...I know nintendo gonna milk that new switch.....gonna fall on the trap again just like the new Nintendo 3ds being the real 3ds...ugh I wanna puke.
imagine being weaker than a mobile. Sort it out Nintendo. Release the Pro already!
It's a shame it can run on my 3 year old phone hardware but can't run on a Nvidia tegra chip.
@Exciter89 In Nintendo's defense a phone cost £600-1000 whereas a switch cost £270.
@tntswitchfan68
“ Also, the Switch has the games. Nintendo has the better games. The PS5 is running on name brand. It is not the most powerful, nor does it have the best games.”
This is subjective. I do find Sony and Microsoft’s games better than Nintendo’s.
I play Genshin Impact on a fairly high spec gaming laptop and it's very obvious that they have issues getting the game to run smoothly... I could be in an intense fight against a whole crowd of enemies, with animations going off all over the place, and my laptop would handle it fine, but sit in a quiet corner where there is literally nothing happening and the game will randomly start putting more load on the CPU and graphics card for no apparent reason.
My laptop still handles it fine, even on the highest settings, but I could see how random spikes like this could cause problems for other systems.
@Giancarlothomaz just because these games worked out fine doesn't mean suddenly everything is possible. that's not how it works. why do you think there is no gta? no cod? no recent star wars game? it's not because the switch is not popular enough. that tired argument of "yeah but x game runs" is invalid in most cases. yeah, they run, with a LOT of downgrades and sacrifices and i'd even argue that doom eternal at 30fps is not worth it because the games was designed for 60fps and more due to its fast pacing nature.
@Zeldafan79 It'll be something stupid like the Switch U.
@CorvoRevo okay pal. Chill out with the insults and stuff. Just because you don't happen to like anime-like content doesn't mean other people can't enjoy it.
My comment was just about the devs being lazy or incompetent because this game by no means looks too demanding compared to many other titles on the platform.
If it can run on mobile, it can run on Switch.
Just stop.
@Yorumi I happen to agree with you about PC gaming. To get into it is no more expensive than consoles (once you add in the cost of controllers, games and subscription costs consoles really start eating your money), and it is easier to future-proof your investment compared to seeing "Pro" models a few years after you just dropped $400-500 on a new console and feel cheapened for being an early adopter. That thanks to GOG, Steam and yes even the Epic store you have a way larger selection of titles right out of the gate.
Anyone who thinks a PS5 and XSX is better than a midrange PC using an RTX series card with a Ryzen chip is drinking the coolaid. As for SSDs, you don't need them to enjoy PC gaming as HDD are still very acceptable and far larger and cheaper (load times are just a bit longer). Even then you can also manage your game storage far better through Steam than you can on PS5s or XSX which require you to go through an insaine amount of menus and require installs even if you own a physical copy.
As for anyone who wants to get into PC gaming Linus Tech Tips and JayzTwoCents do breakdown how to build a powerful and cheap machine. But, consoles are more convenient to plug and play... for now as that is becoming less a thing every day with long installs and downloads.
EDIT: And yes I know new graphics cards come out every year, but they are not that substantial of an upgrade going from an RTX 2060 to a RTX 3060. You are still running most games at Ultra settings with framerates above 60fps. And in most cases you can even have your games run at above 1080p.
Switch desperately needs an upgrade no matter how hard butt hurt fanboys on this (and other sites) cry otherwise.
I'll be buying 3-4 (one for me and friends) when that happens
Going nearly 5 years without an upgrade using mobile hardware is asinine these days.
@TurboTEF We are reaching the limits of what a Switch can do. And honestly... I've had my fill of the console and there are still games I've yet to play on it. A revised Switch Pro might not be a bad idea within the next year... but I think it is smarter for Nintendo to release a Switch Advance (a next-gen Switch) and keep the naming scheme and release it within the next 2 years. Mobile hardware is knocking on the door of the PS5 and XSX so it's not like the power gap will exist forever. The Switch even proved if there is a profit to be made developers will port the game!
Let's be honest if Nintendo gives up Bayonetta 3 and Zelda BotW2 the same year we got No More Heroes 3 and other killer titles I'd call this year an amazing swansong!
I really wish this were on Gamepass. This would have been a perfect series X title.
@Snatcher fix how totally unplayable it was - bad draw distance - horrible sound - huge lag - low frames - bad resolution - you know - everything
I see they haven't fixed it yet though.
I'm confuse. Didn't this game release months ago? As free to play...
This may be a half-truth.
The game has to comply with Nintendo's "battery life" standards in handheld mode.
The game is poorly optimized for any console below 2k.
I know this as my new 3060 RTX, FHD laptop, loves to get hot playing it.
Perhaps it is not just the Switch port that needs more fine tuning.
I hope it comes to Switch, even if it has performance problems. As long as it's playable IDC.It has performance issues on my new phone too, but it's still fun. I want to play this game with buttons thoigh.
Not a second interested in this Chinese ccp propaganda gacha rip off
@BloodNinja I don't think it's a question of small story vs big story. Commenting on rumours isn't good journalism however way you put it, unless there is a credible source.
@Richardwebb That’s the realm of opinion, not an interesting discussion.
@BloodNinja This is a comment section on a website, everything is going be opinion. If you don't like me making the perfectly relevant point that covering these topics should have a credible source (as many good journalists would agree with) then clearly this conversation doesnt interest you - in which case I have no idea why youre commenting on my post to begin with
@Richardwebb You mentioned me, I replied. If you want to comment to the general user-base, don’t @ a specific person. I let you know I’m not interested in your opinion on the matter, so no need to furrow your brow and offer a rebuttal.
@Richardwebb the ethos of our website has always been to cover rumours, we want to be part of the conversations that fans are having and discuss the merits of said rumours. Rumours are part of the Nintendo community and ignoring them we would be missing a massive part of what we love about the games industry.
Meanwhile, near the end of 2021, we still haven't gotten any news about the Switch port at ALL.
