@SalvorHardin Yes, I had noticed they changed the icon to Nintendo Classics and add controller configuration, but the CRT filter didn't look updated. Strange omission.
The only game I own that isn't Switch 2 compatible is Star Wars Republic Commando by Aspyr. There was a patch (1.05) about a month ago. I can't find any official information on this patch, and Nintendo's site still says "Unsupported – Problems with game progression have been found." I saw one message on a Reddit thread suggesting it may be fixed. Issue discussed was a camera locked fully up or fully down, that apparently also happened on Switch 1 but rarely.
There are other games I'm interested in still marked as not compatible as well. Chrono Cross, NieR: Automata, and Overcooked! All You Can Eat.
@Max_the_German We don't know for sure how Silksong will work, but based on the description for backers to download the Switch game then download an the (free) upgrade pack, it seems to be treated as a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition. So comparable games would be Zelda: BotW, Zelda:TotK, Kirby: Star-Crossed World. For 3rd party and free upgrade packs No Man Sky would be an example.
The only NS2 Edition I have is TotK, and that game I can go back and forth an play the first save file on both NS and NS2. (For that game they've locked the 2nd save file to NS2, but that was Nintendo's choice.)
For this reason I believe the NS and NS2 save files for Silksong will be compatible with each other, and @EarthboundBenjy can bring their original Switch to their brothers home and their save will work.
@theberrage This is more than enhanced resolution and frame rate patch. Expecting this to be a free update is not realistic. It's a remake with new textures, models, lighting, restructured game design, and quality of life experience that will hopefully make it less mediocre than the original Switch release.
The original game has (and is currently on sale on US eShop) for $4. So you could buy the original game now and get the both for $24. If you bought it back on release for $20 you got to play it back then.
If you don't think you will like the game then for sure don't spend an additional $20 on it. I'm sure it will be on sale in the future.
@Vyacheslav333 Ok, so we just have to wait until after Half Life 3 releases until we probably finally get the official release date of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond.
@PerfectFrost Game page says it supports HDR and 120Hz mode. (Though strangely this is currently also shown on Switch 1 page.)
I am surprised that at least currently the S1 and S2 appear to be separate versions, instead of it being a Switch 2 edition. Hoping the Switch 2 version will be available for Kickstarter backers. Preferably we would get both with save compatibility.
@SoIDecidedTo Unfortunately this would mean you you have different save files on the OG and OLED, there is no way to combined them. This would also mean your Player Icons, Level and Stats are also not synced between the two consoles.
Unfortunately none of themes 20-25 are available in this event.
Do you have the themes 26 and beyond on both? That would mean you completed those events on both systems.
We will see commercials for Nintendo Switch 2 and Mario Kart World during the presentation. That is likely it. I don't expect any 1st party game announcements. There will likely be 3rd party games announced for Switch 2, but that won't be a result of Nintendo being a partner.
@Dang_69 and @Pat84 If they don't allow it to be selective I wonder if it is just better to Import User Data from the Switch onto the Switch 2 (assuming this method works) rather than use the System Transfer tool.
@Dang_69 According to the support article I linked above:
*Digital software will be downloaded onto the target Nintendo Switch 2 console after the system transfer and inital console set up is complete. Internet connection is required to complete software downloads.
So it seems the game data itself isn't transferred just move the virtual game card and signal the console to download after setup.
I'm hoping the local transfer allows me to be selective of which games to move over as I will not have space on the 256GB system memory to store all the Switch games I own.
@Pat84 This is true for the local system transfer option. It is essentially the reason why virtual game cards exists. You can have some games loaded on your Switch 1, while others are loaded on your Switch 2. (Can still play all games on both but you will either need to move the virtual game card or use the online license check method.)
BEWARE: The system transfer using the server does delete your games and save data, so only use this method if you are planning on trading in your Switch.
Wii and Wii U digital games were always locked to a single console. Wii U didn't support any save file backups, so only means to move save games was to do a system transfer. Wii you could copy save data to SD card so you could move between systems for physical games.
My v1 Switch did not encounter this issue, however I purchased it in 2019 (before the v2 red box versions were released later that year) and it likely shipped with the firmware patch that prevented the soft-mod exploit.
@Wisestfool Mario 35 is not a virtual game card since it is tied to your NSO subscription. Tetris 99, F-Zero 99 and Classic System NSO apps all don't show on your Virtual Game Card list.
I also have Mario Tennis Aces Special Online Demo, Nintendo Switch Sports Online Play Test, Mario Strikers Battle League First Kick, and Splatoon 3 Splatfest World Premiere as unloaded virtual game cards. Octopath Traveller and Triangle Strategy Demos are also unloaded virtual game cards for me. I think this is because these were demos/previews that you had to register for a be granted access to.
This appears to be based on the MKW design rather than Bananza, where DK is more shaggy. I've checked my un-updated Switch and this does appear to be replacing the previous design unless the old appearance is retained lower on the list.
Scrolling through the list I notice there are Twilight Princess and Wind Waker icons for Link, Zelda, and Ganondorf. Such a shame we didn't see the HD versions of those game come to Switch.
I'm curious if someone could jury-rig a Labo VR headset for Switch 2 to allow the game to work. Nintendo may block the game from launching on Switch 2, to prevent people from trying.
@Jester676 People didn't think it would be possible to back up save data to the cloud based on the disclaimer on the website. (Since this has now been removed I suspect it was just a copy and paste error when setting up the webpage.)
For BotW and TotK, I believe you can transfer save slot 1 back and forth between Switch 1 and Switch 2, but only save slot 1. Switch 1 doesn't support save slot 2, so you cannot transfer a 2nd save file.
Nintendo should just patch 2nd save slot into Switch 1 versions, but they probably won't to make sure the Switch 2 version has an "enhanced" feature to justify the upgrade price.
I got a MKW bundle pre-ordered in at Canada Computers, but it later got pushed to back order. I joined a Best Buy queue, but the MKW bundle sold out shortly before making it through the queue. Had I not got the Canada Computer pre-order in I would have probably joined the Best Buy queue early enough to have secured a pre-order there.
Hopefully the back order will not be fully cancelled and it won't take too long for restocks. Customer support rep suggested later in June, but not confident they have any actual information.
@TrogdorTheBurninator I suspect installing the Switch 2 Edition will involve the full game being downloaded (or possibly copied from Switch 1 card) to Switch 2 internal storage or MicroSD Express card. But we definitely need an official answer to that question.
@MangoMahn You will not get visual upgrades to BOTW or TOTK with the original Switch card. You will need to pay for and download the Switch upgrade pack.
It is possible, areas where the game ran sub-30 fps could run at 30 fps, and it is possible areas where dynamic resolution was dropped below 900p will remain at 900p.
It is possible that the digital version of the game installed onto Switch 2 memory or a MicroSD Express card will have improved load times.
I don't expect we will get concrete answers from Nintendo on these as they would prefer you buy the paid upgrade.
Where have you seen information that S2 cards have different contacts than S1 card? Additionally, even if they have different contacts, they can sometimes be aligned in such away to support interoperability. (For example USB 2.0 and 3.0, or MicroSD UHS-1 and Express.)
The Switch 2 Wireless Gamecube Controller does come with a tiny ZL button, Z would act as ZR and Start as +, but - and the two stick presses are missing. (I recall a hands-on from somewhere mentioning that sticks weren't clickable on the Gamecube controller.)
@Jam777 I'm not sure I see an issue with a father not able to purchase two Switch 2 during the pre-order period. He can give the switch to his son, and share with him until he's able to purchase one at a later date. If the father purchases 2 the consequence is that another father might not be able to purchase 1.
I think the solution is to use a system similar to Nintendo. Require an account created before April 2, 2025 with previous purchases linked to the account. (Not foolproof as scalpers could already have these accounts created.) If they don't have an online account system require ID and limit to one per address.
Highly suspect of the Gamestop brand cards offering capacities not offered by SanDisk or Samsung.
@MeloMan you will need microSD Express card, not standard microSDXC. SanDisk and Samsung have maximum capacity of 256 GB currently.
@LinktotheFuture Express cards will work with Switch 1 or any microSD slot, but will be limited by the old device's speed. I don't recommend purchasing an express card for Switch as you can purchase cheaper 256 GB non-express cards, or larger capacity non-express cards for the same price.
@dugan The Switch 2 eShop will have then entire Switch catalogue at launch. So eShop going from 15k games at launch to 25k to 30k through its lifetime likely won't impact performance.
@Citrus_Architect The digital deluxe edition does not include this paid DLC. It includes the Immortal outfit, the Prosperity Bird amulet, and access to the digital adventure guide.
There is a "Games with Demos" filter available on the Search/Browse Tab.
Also some of the requested Filters could be setup through the search browse page as well, when combined with the sorting function. More filter options would be appreciated though.
One feature I would like is the ability to search for DLC of for base games I own.
I don't think the poll answers available are consistent with my view point. I put "Yes, it's too much", but I think "Depends on the game, but generally? Too high." I think Metroid Prime Remastered probably was worth more, and TTYD seemed about right for what seems like a from the ground up graphical remake, with similar amount of content to current era games. Games like Links Awakening while a complete graphical remake are using a Game Boy game as a base and the games content is rather small. That is a game I feel was priced too high.
The 2nd question asks for the sweet spot of both Paper Mario TTYD and Luigi's Mansion 2 HD. But I feel these games are different categories. TTYD is a remake and worth the $60 price point where as Luigi's Mansion 2 HD seems to be a remaster and I think $50 would be a better price for it.
I think whether I played the game previously or not may also have an impact. Since I haven't played TTYD before, I'm more willing to spend more money on the remake. Games like Super Mario RPG and Link's Awakening that I played before don't seem worth full price.
I don't believe it makes sense for Nintendo to release a digital only console. As @HeadPirate has stated the benefits of omitting a card reader just aren't there compared to omitting an optical drive.
I think having a $450 for SKU for card reader switch, and $400 for digital only switch would be perceived similarly to the Wii U's two SKUs. People will view the $450 SKU as the true skew and it would be too expensive. (This would be a $150, and 50%, jump from the previous generation console price.) People would also think $400 is too expensive for a limited version.
I do think it is likely we will see a mid-gen pro version released, but I don't see a reason this would be tied to including a card reader. Xbox has greater incentive to push all-digital console given its primary objectives are to grow gamepass subscriptions and in the future move to cloud gaming.
The first MicroSD card I purchased for my Switch in 2019 was a 128GB Samsung EVO Select, sold and shipped through Amazon. Despite that it still ended up being a fake. (Was a slower 8 or 16 GB card.) Apparently Amazon can mix their lots in their warehouses so even though I purchased an Amazon exclusive line of cards directly through Amazon I still got a fake. They did process a return and full refund with no hassle.
I now always test my MicroSD with FakeFlashTest and H2testw before using them.
I replaced the first MicroSD card with a Kingston card purchased at a local retailer. Since then I have purchased 256GB, 512GB and 1TB SanDisk cards through Amazon that have all been legit.
@RevengeFan If you were to buy the base game on sale and the booster pass at regular price you would pay $64.98. You get the same $20 discount whether you purchase the base MK8 or the bundle with the booster pass. Effectively there is no discount on the booster pass portion of the bundle. (You actually pay 1 cent more.)
Similar discount occurred with Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and the Expansion Pass bundle in a sale last year.
@Uska I got gold points when I purchased Eastward and Cult of the Lamb after playing the game trial. (Purchased digitally from North American eShop. Probably purchased through the web interface, not the Switch.)
I can't verify as it was too long ago now, but I also believe I got the 100 platinum points for playing Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle that I already owned when the Trial was active. Just had to play the game then launch the NSO app on the switch.
I don't think this digital version strategy make sense for Nintendo. Since already moving up from a base price of $299 for the original switch, A digital $399 and with cartridge slot for $449 will result in people thinking they have to pay extra for cartridge slot rather than people feeling they are getting as discount for going all digital. Such a pricing structure is very reminiscent of Wii U's two SKU launch and has potential to have similar effect.
I suspect Nintendo will want to release a Switch 2 Lite and Switch 2 OLED/Pro down the line. Already having two base models will add more confusion.
A cartridge slot on Switch 2 doesn't take up much space and doesn't cost Nintendo $50. The added $50 will alienate families who would want to purchase multiples switches so they can share games between themselves. I think many people are moving to all digital/majority digital without deleting the cartridge slot on a slightly lower priced model.
Digital Foundry did some testing several years back. In Breath of the Wild they compared loading times into Temple of Time area and the load times were 35.7 cartridge, 30.7 internal storage, 34.1 microsd. They tested other areas with similar relative results, roughly 5-10% faster internal vs microsd.
@Synecdoche I also agree that Switch 2 future release gap makes the most sense. They will need to have filler titles for the Switch 2 and it only makes sense to hold these for that.
The HD version lighting breaks the cel-shaded look of the game in many instances. Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom do a better job of incorporating dynamic lighting with cel-shading. My hope is they update the lighting model again that uses dynamic lighting with better handling of the impact on cell shading. Think it is more likely that Nintendo will do a straight port of the HD version however.
The following games from this list are not currently available in North America: Year Walk Race the Sun Art Academy: SketchPad Tengami Bike Rider UltraDX - WORLD TOUR
My recollection Wave Race 64 had more dynamic course, such as water level or wave intensity changing. The game had more varied levels and included hidden shortcuts appearing in each level. Blue Storm had great weather effects, but I think 64 had higher intensity waves on some of its tracks. (For context I owned Blue Storm, but only rented 64 back in the day.)
I feel the Switch is essentially a dedicated gaming tablet. Similar to other tablets, it will be used primarily at home either docked or undocked. People will bring the device out to coffee shops or on vacation, but fewer people will bring them out when on the bus.

This us what I did. Pre-ordered Switch version with the voucher and purchased the Switch 2 upgrade. They are now pre-loaded on my Switch and Switch 2.
Don't usually pre-order and have some concerns about Myles and the desert, but the game otherwise still looks good.

I replaced the first MicroSD card with a Kingston card purchased at a local retailer. Since then I have purchased 256GB, 512GB and 1TB SanDisk cards through Amazon that have all been legit.
Re: Nintendo's MAR10 Day Sale Brings Discounts To Select Games And DLC (North America)
Re: The Next Nintendo Switch Online Free Game Trial Is Now Available (Europe)
@Uska I got gold points when I purchased Eastward and Cult of the Lamb after playing the game trial. (Purchased digitally from North American eShop. Probably purchased through the web interface, not the Switch.)
I can't verify as it was too long ago now, but I also believe I got the 100 platinum points for playing Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle that I already owned when the Trial was active. Just had to play the game then launch the NSO app on the switch.
Re: Talking Point: Would You Buy A Digital-Only 'Switch 2'?
Re: Nintendo Updates Pikmin 4 To Version 1.0.2, Here's What's Included
Digital Foundry did some testing several years back. In Breath of the Wild they compared loading times into Temple of Time area and the load times were 35.7 cartridge, 30.7 internal storage, 34.1 microsd. They tested other areas with similar relative results, roughly 5-10% faster internal vs microsd.
Re: Poll: Do You Prefer Zelda: Wind Waker HD's Bloom Lighting Or The "Flat" OG?
@Synecdoche I also agree that Switch 2 future release gap makes the most sense. They will need to have filler titles for the Switch 2 and it only makes sense to hold these for that.
The HD version lighting breaks the cel-shaded look of the game in many instances. Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom do a better job of incorporating dynamic lighting with cel-shading. My hope is they update the lighting model again that uses dynamic lighting with better handling of the impact on cell shading. Think it is more likely that Nintendo will do a straight port of the HD version however.

Re: Poll: So, Wave Race 64 Or Blue Storm - Which Is Best?
My recollection Wave Race 64 had more dynamic course, such as water level or wave intensity changing. The game had more varied levels and included hidden shortcuts appearing in each level. Blue Storm had great weather effects, but I think 64 had higher intensity waves on some of its tracks. (For context I owned Blue Storm, but only rented 64 back in the day.)
Re: Retailer Accessories for Nintendo Switch Include Lengthy Charging Cables and Portable Cases
I feel the Switch is essentially a dedicated gaming tablet. Similar to other tablets, it will be used primarily at home either docked or undocked. People will bring the device out to coffee shops or on vacation, but fewer people will bring them out when on the bus.
