I know I know but Fortnite is my main palate cleanser. But also Rocket League, Tetris 99 and Roguelites such as Dead Cells.
I also used as palate cleansers both Hades and Super Smash but sadly due to how trashy #$@&$ the Joycons are, I no longer play those in fear of drifting my third pair sadly (no, here in my country we don't have the free Nintendo support to fix them and sending them to another repair is annoying at this point)
Top 3 game of all time for me. But I would definitively wait for Switch 2 if I were Rockstar to release it on a Nintendo platform. This game shouldn't be experienced through a compromised technical limitation as the current Switch has.
Only Mario vs DK and Paper Mario for me here. Somehow I missed playing TTYD back in the Gamecube, even if I loved the N64 original, so that is a must. Not much else for me. Due to the Indie/Third Party state of play happening also today, for the first time I genuinely believed that today was the day for a big Silksong announcement finally. But appears not.
@Ramen756 yeah, first time with a considerable backlog. Mainly happened because I got caught up with a new release that called my attention halfway through a playthrough of another game. A couple of consecutive cases like that and boom, 6 unfinished games. But you are right, makes no sense. I should buy and finish a game before getting another. Specially if they are as good as GOW for example. More understandable if they are as bad as Violet/Scarlet
@Savage_Joe Oh I've been there. After TOTK, the last game that I bought, I looked at my backlog and since then have been on a marathon to beat those games accumulating dust: Triangle Strategy, GOW Ragnarok, P5R and Metroid Dread. After that I only had Pokemon Violet which I left halfway through the campaign... but it is so bad that instead I started with my PS Plus Extra catalog to justify it's price and have been finding nice jewels so far (Humanity, Uncharted LoT and currently Miles Morales). No more huge backlogs now, but easy to accumulate with 2 main consoles So yeah, buying
For all the people hoping for a Metroid Prime 4... I would bet anything that at this point that is going to be a Switch 2 game. At best it will be a release game for the new console available to be played on both systems as BOTW did, but not expecting it tomorrow at all
Yeah, I was totally wrong. Thought that the June Direct meant no more proper Directs at least until EOY. Happy to be wrong. No idea what to expect, as Switch 2 may not be announced until February's Direct I think, where the big next games will be announced.
@BetaRabbit64 hope you are luckier, but my PS5 Dualsense started drifting heavily last month. Bought it on April 2022, so that's the lifetime for those too. Amazing control except for that.
@Kienda couldn't agree more.. Don't need to reinvent the wheel at all. But thought it was only a Nintendo mistake and now PS5 is having the same issues. With both companies' great consoles, and even their controllers other than drift issues, why decide to be so cheap with the sticks...
@Snatcher nah recent controllers are just trash. I still have my GameCube, PS3 and even N64 ones in great condition, no drifting at sight even after hundreds of hours of Super Smash.
But Joycons? I already had the issue with 3 controllers and now I am also having it on my PS5 Dualsense.
I basically stopped playing games like Hades, Smash and Metroid Dread on handheld because I know the new controllers were going to go to waste
They are just crappy now. Drifting is a thing they could get rid from, at least improve it a lot
I would love one, but that last Nintendo Direct in June changes everything I believe.
Yes, we had both February and September Directs in the past few years, but it is the first time in a while (Since 2019 E3 if you count those) that we also had a June Nintendo Direct in between.
So... I think we will probably have an Indie Direct and that's it for now. Maybe an EOY Direct?
Hope I am totally wrong
@Bret I know that is why I put gamefreak kind of bad. Anyways, no mather who is involved, 3D Pokemon games other than Snap always look bad in recent generations. I can only remember Pokemon Colosseum looking good for it's ongoing gen back in the gamecube days
So... what I take from these is that it is aimed for children, is too easy, looks like gamefreak kind of bad and is otherwise aimed at people who played the first one and have nostalgia. Yeah, not for me this one, no surprise
Continue the marathon to complete my backlog after TOTK. Since then I have finished:
Triangle Strategy
GOW Ragnarok (Amazing)
Persona 5 Royal (Great but eternal last months) And now I am on the middle of my first Metroid Dread playthrough. Great game but I know it is a very short one. Still haven't decided which one comes next
DIdn't watch it completely, but 7 worlds sounds like on the short end. I don't care too much about replayability in Mario games honestly. Just hoping it is not too short and worth the full price.
The rest looks awesome but would have also preferred that characters played differently (not just invincible for kids)
@judaspete loved both back in my gamecube days, but never bought the sequels. I heard that both the sequel to Symphonia and (Prequel) of Baten Kaitos were bad, so I never really gave them a chance. So, was Origins really good? If so, I might even consider getting the remaster, considering that it includes both BK games.
Loved it. I still have my Gamecube copy. One of my favorite games of all time.
Probably my favorite JRPG, with both the original Golden Sun games following. But again, nostalgia may be a great part of it, because whenever I see images of the switch game, I feel like it is an entirely different game and it is not.
That's why I prefer not to replay it again. Let's leave those good memories intact.
@LikelySatan that is right and also another reason why they must be played in Handheld in my case.
Just beat P5R in my switch. Great game, but playing it Docked in front of my GF or anyone else would have been very embarrassing. Some JRPGS just add too much cringey low pitch voices, characters, etc..
@the_beaver Great games all you mentioned, but half of them are SRPGs, not JRPGs. Well.. you are not technically wrong if they are RPGs made in Japan... But Strategy RPGs such as Fire Emblem and Triangle Strategy play differently than the other traditional JRPGs.
Anyway, great games for fans of both genres
I have it included in my ps plus extra membership but this is a game to be played in the switch in handheld mode. So I don't know what to do. Maybe test it out first on my ps5 and wait for a switch sale? Paying for something I already have included is against everything I believe. If only NSO was half as competent as ps plus subscriptions... But I keep paying it just for the MK booster pass apparently.
Just beat the final boss in P5R. Will be ending the epilogue later today I guess. Loved the game but honestly the last few months after the casino felt eternal.
I think I will test my guilty pleasure Fortnite's new season that just dropped before finally starting Metroid Dread tomorrow.
Original plan was to get Armored Core but reviews didn't convince me for a first day purchase.
I'm just happy for those who will play it for the first time. No need for me to got back. The sequel is in my Top3 all time, hope that non PS owners here will have a chance to also play it someday
Absolutely disagree with the article related to an easy 2022 win. Elden Ring is better than any of the listed 2023 games by far, as is GOW Ragnarok. I still haven't played Baldur's Gate.
This year has more candidates, but the top 2 in 2022 were all time top tier games.
Finished it at just below ~150h. 100% completion? Of course not. Finding all the Koroks, Bubbulgems and grinding to upgrade all armor just for the sake of it is a total waste of time in my opinion.
Other than that finished all the side quests and things I wanted.
Amazing game, but don't think I will be ever coming back to it.
First Mainline Game that I didn't even bother to finish. I even finished Sword twice, but this was just lame. And it is not even due to the poor graphics/ frame rate.
Don't count me in for the DLC, and probably for any other mainline game going forward. And I have been a loyal fan since Crystal, back in my first platform, the GBC
Amazing game, really recommend it for the people that haven't played it. The sequel is one of my top5 games of all time for sure. Happy that they included the Switch
I'm done with new mainline Pokemon games after the horrible S/V which was my first game in the franchise for which I didn't even bother to finish the main story due to how bad the game is (and I am not even talking about graphics or frame drops).
But I could get again into the GBA games if they are made available in the NSO subscription
I am returning to my abandoned playthroughs after TOTK. Finished GOW Ragnarok last week and now returned to Persona 5 on my switch as Felix did too. This one will take a long time. After that I will have my fresh Metroid Dread to play or return to my also a abandoned Ghost of Tsushima playthrough. After my backlog is complete, it will be a matter of how good Armored Core turns out to be. Because it will either be that or buying RE4 and/or Advance Wars
Last game was amazing, my second most played game on the Switch, and that is something. Difficult to surpass.
I imagine a new one coming out with the next console.
I can't imagine it having EVERYONE again sadly, but even with a smaller roster, I hope that whoever takes the reins will finally embrace it's competitiveness in tournaments, good online play etc...
@NintendoByNature it is more consistent at least. If you consider only the first 9~ish seasons of the Simpsons I would argue that Simpsons is the GOAT. But being already in season 34 and counting, those golden seasons represent only ~25% of the show!
It has been absolute trash for years now.
Overall Futurama wins.
Fortnite is still my guilty pleasure, but this season has been really weak, or at least compared to the previous one. I almost didn't play it at all. Maybe you can blame it on TOTK and the rest of my backlog.
But this collaboration... I may be spending some VBucks tomorrow on a Bender skin... Unless there is a Zap Brannigan skin of course. It would be hilarious to be defeated by a random Zap Brannigan
It was surprisingly fun. I really liked it. BOTW meets GOW.
But, as we only keep getting sequels for everything from the developers, I look forward to new successful IPs
After months of only using my Switch mainly due to TOTK and Triangle Strategy, I am now finally back to finish GOW Ragnarok. Amazing game that I left to try the lame Pokemon Violet in the holidays and never returned.
Will finish it this week and move on to Metroid Dread
@YoshiF2 ok you've got a point there. I also used to consider myself a completionist but man, I am getting older with less time and most games are going for the Open World collectathon of things path. I think it was after The Witcher 3 that I decided to stop 100% everything.
But yes, if you want to 100% TOTK, it can be a pain
@YoshiF2 not saying that I disagree with some of your points, but spending 200h in a game you dislike so much!? and
then say you will never play a new one again? I would have dropped sooo much earlier if I didn't like it as I did with the last Pokemon games f.ex.
If you hate it you don't spend so much time just to bash it, like what is the purpose of grinding all the caves and armor upgrades just to see a 100% completion (not even that due to the koroks) if you didn't even like doing it. That is the definition of wasted time.
I did all side quests, lightroots, shrines, got all the armors etc.. but caves, koroks and weapon upgrades? It did not add anything to me so I just forgot about those, instead of doing them just for the sake of doing them to complain
@Vil Me for example. I originally bought it physically for PS3 when released. Then, last year when I bought my PS5, GTAV was just re released for it at just 10$ digitally. But I didn't finish it again. Same thing happens with Mario Kart 8 still selling huge: New Gamers buying new consoles
@solarwolf07 if counting physical only, TOTK won as mentioned in the article. We just don't know about TOTK's digital sales. So I think, based only in 2023 so far and considering Fifa released In September, I would guess that TOTK is above overall this year alone. But to your question, a lot of casual gamers buy consoles just to play Fifa/NBA 2k and/or COD and I don't blame them. Also, they are multi-platform, you shouldn't be surprised.
My only experience with this series is the demo of Deluxe 3. Didn't kill me. But maybe I could give it another try with the demo. I love most of the strategy games, although I am more inclined towards the tactics rpg genre and still haven't tried Engage yet. But this looks beautiful. I will wait for user reviews in the next few weeks
Finished with TOTK this week now planning to finish games that I left unfinished for whatever reason (great games most of them) in probably this order: 1. Triangle Strategy (one more battle left) 2. Metroid Dread (Not started) 3. GOW Ragnarok (left it to start Pkmn Violet during the holidays.. horrible choice) 4. Persona 5 (left it to start GOW haha) 5. Ghost of Tsushima (never returned to it after some vacations) 6. Maybe Pokemon Violet (left it because it's so bad)
Maybe in between I will get Fire Emblem Engage, RE4 and/or 13 sentinels. The only pending release this year for me is Armored Core which will also fit somewhere in between when released. My biggest backlog ever
Both games are among the best ever. Loved both and could easily be among my top 5-7 all-time. If one thing works in a game, there is nothing wrong to admit being "inspired" by it and even applying some similar features of it in your game to make it better.

Love SRPGs, but this series just never clicked with me.
Happy that it is running so well and about it's high score for the fans anyways

Top 3 game of all time for me. But I would definitively wait for Switch 2 if I were Rockstar to release it on a Nintendo platform. This game shouldn't be experienced through a compromised technical limitation as the current Switch has.
Re: Poll: What Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Wave 6 DLC Racer Are You Most Excited About?
@mariomaster96 you are absolutely right. Just not a fan of all these different Marios and Peaches, but yes, they delivered more than expected here.
Re: Poll: What Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Wave 6 DLC Racer Are You Most Excited About?
Not Peachette. A wasted slot that could have been used for great characters.
