I think that having a dedicated Direct for a game just one month before the Release Date is ideal in order to maximize hype with the right timing, but if there is a chance to let players at PAX test it out, that is a possibility too.

@TheBigBlue that is a 6 year difference actually, 1996 to 2002. But anyways, 7 years considering how much money that means for Nintendo, seems crazy. You can mention the same about Mario Kart, but Deluxe version is still selling and in the top of the charts even today, there is no reason to launch a new one, while a new Mario will not cannibalize on Odyssey's sales and will probably be a huge success

@Giancarlothomaz if the Switch's successor releases next year, I get it, but waiting 2/3 year for the next Mario? I don't buy Nintendo waiting +7 years between 3D Mario entries

@Giancarlothomaz Even Splatoon 3 and Xenboblade Chronicles 3 had special directs before their release dates, but they happened just one month before the games' release dates. Of course TOTK will have it's own Nintendo Direct, but in April

But I was really hoping for a next Mario game reveal. Mario Odyssey was officially announced (Jan 17) two months before BOTW (Mar 17) was released. So... I thought Mario day was the perfect time for a new mainline Mario 3D announcement considering we will be at almost two months from TOTK. Not that they are related, but the timespan seems right. It's been 84 years

I loved the original Gamecube game, maybe my favorite JRPG of all time, but it is possible that this is just nostalgia talking. I am afraid that playing this demaster will change good memories instead of just bringing them back.
I prefer to pass for those reasons..

Agree with both comments above. Not having played Sun/Moon, this is the first time I ever see this pokemon, but I love that they add obscure choices to the roster. Skeledirge, Meowscara, Tinkaton are pretty obvious choices after the Gen9 release, but still preferred to release this one... a welcome surprise

Another Switch. Nintendo has not been in the power/graphics fight against PS and Xbox for several generations now, and will not do it again, which is not a bad thing. They must differentiate through first party exclusives and portability. That is where they succeed and win. It is also the reason why having the current Nintendo console along with either the PS or Xbox one is the combination to go if you can.

Metroid Prime 3 Corruption: Final Boss.
Love hard games, souls games, metroidvanias, intense difficulty JRPGS, roguelikes etc.. and to this day the only game I got tired of trying a boss that I could never beat is that Dark Samus encounter on the Wii. Sadly I don't have my Wii with me to try it once more

I see the appeal of physical but living in South America, means that getting my hands on physical equals +3 times the cost. Also, some quick play games are more comfortable on digital than constantly changing them manually.

@Rob3008 I bought the game after the last patch and sincerely I've only had one time where the game crashed and had to be reset. Nothing critical due to autosave. No mayor glitches nor critical problems to be honest.
My complain with Gamefreak as always is that the main story difficulty is not even for children, it is painfully easy for a jrpg, and skipping gyms to make it harder just makes the rest of the gyms/challenges even easier afterwards.
Other than that the game is playable

My favorite Gen8 pokemon. Might go back to Unite for a couple rounds just to try it. Haven't played it in months

But if it is due to them receiving the review codes later than the rest, then it is not

Although the game is not out until tomorrow, I can't help but notice that recent reviews from Nintendolife are frequently delayed in comparison with other sites. This review was out on other pages, including brother-site PushSquare for almost a week now. Just seems strange. As long as the review is out before the actual launch date it is fine with me as in this case, but other titles didn't while similar pages had.
Calling this out because I buy digitally and never pre-order. So if I want to buy a day one, I need to see reviews before that

So glad I waited before buying in order to avoid what happened to him: Beating the main story just before a performance patch arrived. I plan on getting it for the holidays. Hope there is one more patch by then if we are lucky.

These are good news honestly. It was going to be a day one for me but decided to wait just in case they fixed the bugs/performance in a latter patch. Meanwhile I am enjoying GOW on PS5 and Persona5 on Switch. Hope that by the holidays a significant patch arrives, as that is when I plan on buying Violet

Has Gamefreak or someone already pronounced themselves about this? I still haven't heard if they acknowledged that their latest billionaire brand game is a meme because of the horrible performance everyone is talking about. I will still probably get the game for the holiday season, because nostalgia, but I was hoping for them at least to acknowledge their errors and give us hope about a good patch in the near future

I was going to choose 100% Quaxly, love duck pokemon and they couldn't have messed up with the evolution too much...right? Well they completely screwed it. Similar thing happened with my second choice when I saw it standing in two feet, Sprigatito.
To my surprise, my original last choice Fuecoco ended up being really good. Actually, I love it's final evolution. Fuecoco it is

@RubyCarbuncle I didn't even think of owning two systems in my consideration because owning two working systems just for yourself (no sharing at home) while also paying for the same game twice just for those additional Pokemon sounds even more ridiculous for me. But well if those additional Pokemon are worth having two systems and paying for the same game twice and you have that much money then good for you. I was just thinking about it with my third world South American country budget I guess

Violet it is. Also, I never understood why would someone buy both versions of the same generation. Paying almost double for just a bunch of exclusives? It always felt to me like the worst price/benefit DLC ratio ever. There must be something I am missing. Having two people in the same house playing the game is the only reason, but both for the same user???

In a month full of GOW, Scarlet/Violet and Tactics Ogre among others, scores like this just ended any chance it had for me

Yes, it really bothers me those cons I mentioned, having that level of budget and sales, one would expect at least better frame consistency and having a difficulty selection should be easy and a no-brainer today.. but anyways as mentioned before, still a day one for me too because the pros are bigger as you mention

• Tactics Ogre: Probably once it is on sale, which as a non-Nintendo game should happen before long.
• Scarlet/Violet: I am one of those fans always complaining about how each mainline entry is getting worse... but I will still probably buy it as a day one. They got me hooked here even though the graphics and the frame rate look really poor for it's budget and probably it is going to be as easy as the last ones.
• Frontiers: Only if it is praised as a fantastic game once it is out . Then if the switch version runs well compared to other platforms, if not, PS5 it is

@CMS_Glalie yes, that's what I meant, a total downgrade for me. You and I may or may not have someone to play local multiplayer with, but it doesn't matter; if the first game had that mode/option and this one doesn't it is by definition a downgrade.
And for a first game that was praised for it's challenge and now in it's sequel the thing that most critics and people in the comments criticize is the apparent lack of it, well... if most people think that is also a negative point.....
It may be a good game, but those things for me and apparently a lot of people are downgrades

I'm glad to see these reviews. Never played a Persona game before, but love JRPGs, think that portable is the best way to go with them and also loved SMTV. I know that this isn't as challenging as that one, but heard that the story and general experience are great. I just finished FFVII remake so I need a little break before starting a long JRPG, but will finally get it some day

No local multiplayer, no Yoshi and now too easy? Sorry, I loved the first one, but looks like a big downgrade.

Deal-breaker for me. Happy I read it first before pre ordering. The main story was short on the first one and most of my time with it was spent in versus mode local multiplayer.

Definitively a day one for me, but I agree with some comments that it is too colorful and the main character design is a big miss. Hope it has different routes available as in Three Houses for the replay value. Have +300 hours on that one thanks to that and the maddening difficulty. Loved it

I was so disappointed after the lack of a proper main Nintendo Direct in June after the rumors that I finally decided to buy Ps Plus Extra and for the first time I found myself going to PushSquare much more often than here. This is the longest time I haven't touched my Switch since I bought it in 2017.
But I'm still hoping for some good news such as a Wind Waker port. In the meantime, nothing interesting until Scarlet/Violet in November for me

As some mentioned before, this should really:

• Include 4 player split-screen
• Be a free to play in NSO + Expansion Pack

As people mentioned in previous comments, this is not that bad with the amount of current SRPGs being released this year. I can wait for a more polished game

@LudicrousBeeswax me too. I have 13 Sentinels in the backlog so I can't quite tell, but these new real time tacticals cautiously call my attention. The same happens with Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope, not completely sold on the new mechanics

I will definitively have to try this demo! I love SRPGs and Switch is the perfect console for them. Love that Square Enix is giving so much SRPG love to the Switch while I wait for a new real Fire Emblem

@a_brave_new_geek if you are looking for a great JRPG Story welll..... none of those franchises will give you one. If you are looking for a challenge then SMTV all the way, specially in hard mode. I still buy Pokemon games due to the atmotsphere, nostalgia and because I kind of feel them to be relaxing. But if you never played a pokemon game before... without challenge, nostalgia and a good story most of the times...3 strikes. Go for SMTV if you are a newcomer to both series, which will also have more familiar monsters for you as they are mostly based in gods from diverse religions.
Anyways, I will still buy one of these 2 Pokemon games probably, even tough I always end up complaining that they get easier with every entry, and not because one is getting older or with more experience.

Annapurna did an amazing job with Stray, so I would love to see what else they can offer. But really short games like these belong to subscription services like PS Plus. I would love for Nintendo to do the same with Indies like this in their NSO subscription which basically I only pay for MK8 DLC

Looks great tbh. I always prefer SRPJs in my Switch, miles ahead of other consoles, but this looks a little bigger than normal. Not sure if PS5 or Switch, which would be the best experience for me with this one.

Overall GOTY and possible game of the Decade as some mentioned is ELDEN RING for sure.
Switch related, I am still playing Triangle Strategy, but has been the best so far this year.
EDIT: I forgot about Disco Elysium. It is N1 Switch game I played this year definitively

I've waited a long time for this game to be on switch because I also prefer long RPGs to be played handheld as some mentioned. Sadly, I recently heard that these games are too easy compared to others such as SMT or DQ on their hard/draconian modes, which I found really appealing due to the challenge and having to think each boss cautiously (Although I confess dying a lot) which is part of the fun.
