Re: Best SaGa Games Of All Time - Switch And Nintendo Systems

Diogmites

Argh! I am very torn. By reading, SaGa Scarlet Grace Ambitions seems like the wisest choice and i will probably purchase Romancing SaGa 3 as well.
They are both on sale, so i think i’ll buy both, dive into SSGA first, and then try RS3 as recommended.
This was all very helpful and thank you to Alana and all those who provided rankings, and to those who replied to my initial post with recommendations.

Update: Bought SaGa Scarlet Grace Ambitions and a buncha SaGa tracks in Theatrhythm.

@amongtheworms lol certainly and the scene you set would make a good painting! I love New Londo’s lore and like to think if TOOL’s aenema existed in Anor Londo before they sent the waters down below, it would have gone double platinum.

I’m with Franklin.
My thoughts on familiar selections:
While my appraisal of Ocarina often differs from others’, the Water Temple was the high point of the game for me, at least until i dropped onto Bongo Bongo’s drum.
Also, i fell in love with Labyrinth Zone in Sonic 1 the first time i played it. The music, the sound produced when one takes a massive hit of 0xygen from a bubble, the currents, the colors, the floats… i dug it all and still do.
Lake Kingdom and Aquas are both enjoyable.
Bubble Man’s stage is gorgeous in Mega Man 2. And of the various aquatic MM stages, i think this is the one to pick with its cartoonish, massive angler fish(Ankos), hoppy frogz(kerogs) n jet propulsed shrimpiez(.Shrinks)
Rapture is unforgettable. To me, all other entries pale in comparison.
And where is New Londo Ruins, eh!?
A fun list, and i enjoyed reading it.
Thank you!

I will be picking up Endless Ocean when the price sinks to sufficient depths. Numan Althetics is already mine and there is no way i can avoid purchasing The Night of the Rabbit.
Pac-Man Mega Tunnel Battle: Chomp Champs is a possibility though its title sets the scene of a grim future where publishers revel in, and we are awash in, pleonasm.
Dungeon Smash maybe.

Thanks to Alana for her work!

Re: Poll: What's The Best SaGa Game? Rate Your Favourites For Our Upcoming Ranking

Diogmites

I’m trying a lot of new stuff this year and have never played a SaGa game. I recall people likening Octopath Traveler to these games in response to Square claiming it was a spiritual successor to FF6. And while i had never played a SaGa game, that made a lot more sense to me as Octopath reminded me of FF6 in no way at all.
I’ll wait until all the rankings shake out, and i do some more research to decide, but i’m leaning toward Romancing SaGa 2 or 3 because of the sumptuous pixel art.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (27th April)

Diogmites

@Bucket I played FEAR for the first time maybe 5 years ago and i felt the horror elements were weak too , but thought the ai was great fun to fight against and really enjoyed it also. I played through the dlcs and liked them a lot. I checked the reviews from back when it was released and was surprised the dlc got such low scores. Further investigation revealed that CoD: Modern Warfare had been released and i believe that many reviewers were so taken with its cinematic elements, that the FEAR dlc suffered in comparison. Anyways, i’ll be curious to know what you thoughts are on the dlc if you decide to play it!

I forgot about Arcade Archives: Numan Athletics. I didn’t see it on the list .. and was released todayI am getting this after reading about it on Time Extension. Looks like anime Track and Field.

@AlanaHagues maybe you missed this! forgive me if i’m wrong! Arcade Archives:Numan Althletics.

Re: Digital Eclipse's Remake of 'Wizardry' Dungeon Crawls Onto Switch In May

Diogmites

Never expected this. Very optimistic and will probably purchase this game. I missed it on steam and will have a look there as well.
The Dark Savant trilogy would be excellent, but very glad they chose the first Wizardry, as i don’t have as much experience with it. I was into Might and Magic I and II and then the SSI gold box games by the time i got a computer, and didn’t really dig too deep into the Wizardry games until Bane of the Cosmic Forge.

Thanks for the happy tidings, Ollie!

Re: Random: Sakurai Talks About "The Most Incredible Year For The Game Industry"

Diogmites

Man, Sakurai with ‘86…
Kid Icarus , Metroid, Lifeforce, Ghosts n Goblins … some great games.
I remember playing Ghost n’ Goblins for the first time at an airport.
We were walking to a gate and i saw it leering at me from across the crowded hall. I had a quarter and asked my mom if i could play it , she said only if i could catch up when i was done.
I knew i only had moments to play, and intended to quit before my first life was taken. Didn’t need a moment, as the game took my butt, kicked it roundly, and handed it back to me in a span of seconds.
Had no problem catching back up to my mom as i leered back in vengeance at the machine that had so dearly compromised my pride.
Later, i would destroy the home port during a rental weekend at a friend’s and so i achieved satisfaction.
My pick: 2021 cuz Monster Hunter Rise.

Re: Best Relaxing Nintendo Switch Games

Diogmites

I see TOEM on sale now. I might need it soon, as i’ve heard Just Shapes and Beats gets feisty.
Also, Firewatch looks interesting, as i was an avid camper at one point.
I’ve already played A Short Hike in 2020 when it released and everyone when bonkers for it. I think that’s the only game i’ve played here.
Thanks for updating the list!

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (20th April)

Diogmites

Switch: Mostly hoping to find time to try and finish the awesome Just Shapes and Beats. I picked it up this past week, after trying the demo following a read of Gavin’s excellent review and am loving it. The soundtrack pulses and it is clever.
I am feeling i need to make another run through Langrisser 1 and 2. Read a fantastic article on its creation complete with interviews, photos and design documents by John Sczezepaniak over at Time Extension and its got me in the mood.
Played a few Gameboy titles i hadn’t before, so that i could add rankings. I see users here who have vast gaming experience who don’t don’t have a lot of games ranked… please rank if you can!
Tennis had Waluigi was innit. Was that his 1st appearance? I got hooked on Burger Time Deluxe the other day and it impacted my work lol.
Grounded reportedly is running at 30fps steadily and while a lot of graphical frills have been removed, it looks totally playable. I just have to wait for a sale.
I bought Freedom Planet 2 and am chomping at the bit to play it, but i gotta wait until i’m less busy.
PC: nothing this week
DnD: constantly prepping as i made this village and am just adding loads of supplementals like drawings and more and more npcs (i’ve started basing many of them on sitcom characters). My partner rescued an undead bird from her last dungeon, and i was thinking on the fly so came up with this gimmick that the bird is a socially awkward-voice mimic, and it repeats back phrases but in uncomfortable and awkward terms.. so even if a Cha check succeeds the bird might botch a social interaction… i thought it was funny but even though i’m using it sparingly, the joke has seems to have run its course so time for a little character development. Alright, enough rambling, have a good weekend all and take care!

Re: Nintendo Download: 18th April (North America)

Diogmites

Grounded is on my radar. The TMNT game too.
Stone Age was a great worker placement boardgame back in the day. The game was also notorious for having a dice cup that was disagreeably pungent. One whiff, and your hair turns stark white, or so i’ve been told. The digital version might be an upgrade! Might get it!
Thank you for compiling this!

Re: Level-5's Next Vision Showcase Delayed To Summer 2024

Diogmites

I played a Layton game(Miracle Mask) as the 3ds was ending its life cycle, and i really enjoyed it.
Now i’m looking at the Switch Layton titles and there is only one and it’s a port?
Am i missing something? Hasn’t a collection been released?
Forgive my ignorance, but what happened? I remember the DS’s library was like 90% Layton titles…

Re: Soapbox: Where The Heck Is Fallout 3 On Switch?

Diogmites

Of the three Fallouts i’ve played, i only really liked the first one, despite being a fan of the theme. I’m still very surprised 3 never showed up on Switch, given its popularity, or even a port of the older two.
Hopefully, the fans get what they want!

Re: Back Page: Nintendo-Themed Haiku - Celebrating Play & Poetry With The 5-7-5

Diogmites

Thanks for the shout-out, NLife!
For added context, i have a broken tailbone. They never really heal.
These are all enjoyable poems and it’s great to see Ollie and Jim join in the fun, too.
While i have little skill at poetry, let that not diminish my favorite haiku by Kobayashi Issa:
A man, just one —
also a fly, just one —
in the huge drawing room.

Re: Atari And WayForward Join Forces For A New 'Yars' Metroidvania

Diogmites

I liked the original Yar’s on Atari, though i was so young, i’m pretty sure it was just because of the incomparably rad metal insects on the cover.
I still like insect themed-stuff as well as metroidvanias, and though i’ll need to see a lot more before getting too excited, i am interested.

Re: Rayman Is Getting A Brand New Board Game Later This Year

Diogmites

@TKundNobody Doom was cool, though had some clunky mechanics if i recall(ammo) and Kevin Wilson has done a lot better dungeon crawls since(even 1e Descent). Starcraft was neat i agree, but i feel the Fantasy Flight Warhammer 40k game, Forbidden Stars, although not based directly on a vgame, was a better attempt at streamlining and innovating an exemplary galactic conquest game like Twilight Imperium(3e).
Also , i thought the boardgame version of World of Warcraft, although gruesomely overburdened with lengthy combat mechanics and game time, was a phenomenal take on the renowned mmorpg.
Bioshock Infinite, while not great, and certainly overshadowed by Vega’s later efforts like Dead of Winter, was a superior endeavor to transform a video game into an interesting boardgame, then say, Doom.
The Monster Hunter boardgame isn’t terrible either, although i think it only shines in upgrading one’s abilities and in combat.
Age of Mythology, though not without its critics, was an early Video-to-Table game that i really loved.
Regardless, good to see another bgamer here and yeah, bgg is great!
