As a huge BOTW fan, I was interested in Age of Calamity, but it just looked laughable compared to BOTW, hundreds and hundreds of Rito, for example, where there are like 30 in existence in BOTW. It just doesn't seem like the same world at all.
I have a real soft spot for this game - played a bunch during lockdown!! Will happily spend £4 for the S2 upgrade and go back to my island to do some long overdue weeding!!
I adore Banjo, but this is a pass. 30fps and £50 on Switch 2, more expensive than the 60fps PS5 version? Nope. May pick it up on PS5 on sale, but Galaxy 1 and 2 for me instead.
Yes, got both digitally (and the metal posters, which look great), as these are two of my favourite games. Very excited to play through them both again. Absolutely worth the price, for me.
@Stormcloudlive Fair point and I do get that... I suppose I just remember when I had my PS2, things like Taito Legends included 30 or more arcade games, so a tad surprised nobody has any gripes about this Neo Geo collection being spread out like this! And now Taito do their Legends packs which are by comparison an absolute rip off. The way things are these days I guess...
Amazing people goggle up these lazy ROM collections and never once mention the price. Galaxy 1 & 2 remastered is a rip off, but these are fine?? Weird.
@SpaceboyScreams 50-70 hours on average is a fantasy.
plus this whole 'hours of playtime = value" argument is moronic. Astro Bot was game of the year, it is far better than DK Bananza. But some people are just die hard Nintendo shills. whatever.
zero interest. didn't mind the main game, but still baffled as to why everybody praises it to the extent that they do. It's fine, but not close to a main 3D Mario, IMO. Already overpriced for the amount of gameplay it gave me, no way am I throwing good money after bad for something that should have been either free or £7-8 max...
I own all the consoles, so no bias here, but god of war gave a free rogue like mode better than this for free. astro bot, as somebody above mentioned, gave countless (bigger and better) updates than this for free. Nintendo can do one.
@NintendoWife yep, just noticed that so cancelled my normal pre-order and went with the digital pre order that includes the metal posters! have to have them, galaxy my fave games!!!
@Polvasti that seems to be the case yes, certainly based on released information to date, as they have not mentioned 3D all stars getting any sort of patch.
Not going to wade into the price argument, except to say that it's almost £7 for a pint in my local these days, so £58 for 2 of my favourite games of all time (40 years of gaming) available in 4k is totally worth it FOR ME. Have pre-ordered both digitally. Will then have no use for 3D all stars, as I was never a big fan of 64 or sunshine.
Can not wait to replay these two again, not played them since my Wii U...
Nope. Not interested, and coming out so soon after the game stings a little... Didn't love the game as much as most seemed to, solid 7-8/10, so no interest in paying more for a few hours.
@basswitch its on the Nintendo page for each game?

ENHANCED FOR NINTENDO SWITCH 2
SuperMarioGalaxyCombined_enhanced_sideImg.png
A free update will be available for Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 on Nintendo Switch 2! Enjoy both games at 4K resolution in TV mode or 1080p in Handheld and Tabletop mode.
bought all stars digital just for galaxy 1. will now buy galaxy 1 and 2 digital as its only way to get galaxy 1 at 4k on switch 2. don't care it's expensive, they are my fave games.
Just to be clear I understand. If you buy this new collection, or Galaxy 1 or 2 individually, there is a Switch 2 patch to run at 4K on TV. As per the Nintendo website.
There is no Switch 2 patch for Mario All Stars, so the ONLY way to play Galaxy 1 at 4k is to buy it AGAIN here?
guaranteed to be disappointed, as this is Nintendo, isn't it!
Would love Mario galaxy 2 in some format, a new 3d Mario, a GOOD new Mario sports title, a Wii sports follow up, F zero, some remastered Zelda games and a new 3d Mario.
MK World a huge disappointment for me, and whilst I finished DK Bonanza, I just don't understand the high praise. 7/10 game.
No Zelda. No 3D Mario... it'll collect dust now until a first party banger releases. No interest in playing 3rd party games that run better on my PS5 or XSX.
Never, as a grown up, ordered any Lego. Been a bit tempted by a few over the years, but this one looks so good, not too big so easy to display somewhere, and not hundreds of pounds either. ordered!!!
I left the game on attract mode the other day to hear a bunch of the tunes... and every few minutes it switches from open world to a race. and it's ALWAYS a 24 player, 3 LAP RACE. It rubs salt into the wounds.
thanks for highlighting this saves me wasting money on another half assed Nintendo emulation attempt. should have learnt my lesson after how utterly unplayable Mario golf (N64) was on my Wii.
I like articles like this. personal. reflective... it also very clearly throws focus on a specific era, and is a function of the age of the author...
Gaming as a medium has evolved so much over the 40 or so years I have been playing... it's something that makes compiling lists of favourite games so difficult, due to both recency bias, and the fact that games have changed so much over the numerous console generations.
I get really strong nostalgia when I replay arcade games from Sega, from the 80's... games that I played at leisure centres, theme parks, pubs on holidays... wonderboy, space harrier, quartet... then arcade games from the early to mid 90's, sega rally, Daytona, and others like Super Pang and Chase HQ that I played in my halls at Uni.
I'd had a spectrum 48k but the first magical memory was my Sega Master System. Yes, the ports of outrun, space harrier, afterburner, quartet, etc, were poor imitations of the arcade games, but they were the first time I'd played games at home. IN COLOUR!!!
Then I think it's the N64 that really holds a lot of emotional memories, Banjo Kazooie, Snowboard Kids, Mario Golf, etc, as it was a period in time myself and a few friends were training for our first jobs, and flat sharing... and then it was the X360, and Gears of War 2. Regular Tuesday nights playing Horde, 4 or more of us, all dialled in after work, bottles of wine open, headsets on, having an absolute blast.
But the best thing is, in my 50th year on this planet, I'm still making gaming memories that I know I'll look back upon in many years to come. My best friend moved to Dubai last year, but we have had weekly Helldivers 2 sessions, and these hours have meant so much, and I just love that gaming is still forming such strong memories for me... long may it continue
The switch 2 was the first of my 22 or 23 odd consoles / handhelds that I've ever pre-ordered, and I love that approaching my 6th decade, that still made me as excited as I was when I first opened that sega master system all those years ago. I bloody love gaming.
Couldn't give a ***** TBH. compared to proper open world driving games like Forza Horizon it's a very poor imitation. 10 years behind the competition. But the racing is top tier so I couldn't care less.
All I want is a new game mode for classic GP with 3 laps races (yes, I know Vs exists). Open world is barely an idea, so far from a fully formed concept.
the bigger question is, do you gold / 3 star them all at 50cc first, then again at 100cc before moving onto 150cc? I can't shake the habit of starting at 50cc, as lame as it is. almost done with 100cc so I can really start enjoying the game at 150. it's an illness.
@MathByThePixel after over 10 hours in the game, this is exactly how I feel. The biggest disappointment by FAR is only getting to drive 1 lap on most of the tracks in GP - no more than a 7 or 8/10 for me until this is patched and the AI / weapons are balanced.
For a paid and not free update, have to say not that impressed, as the pop in is seemingly no different. When you glide from a tower, and head towards a fortification with loads of enemies on it, the fortification STILL looks empty until you are practically on top of it, then all the enemies magically appear. Classic Nintendo laziness, surely the Switch 2 could have handed this?
