Re: Zelda: BotW, Super Mario 64 And Pokémon GO Shortlisted For The Golden Joystick 'Ultimate Game Of All Time' Award

Dimey

Some strange choices and omissions... from the list, in many ways I'd have to go Tetris, had it on gameboy, and now i have mentioned it I can't get the theme song out of my head. It still stands up today, with the same graphics, gameplay, etc. I still refer to it whenever I pack a suitcase, a car, a van, etc...
Super Mario Bros (original version) would be my choice though, IF it was on the list!
And NO Sega at all - that's not right. Out Run to represent driving games for sure

Re: Nintendo Switch Online's N64 Games Need Some Work

Dimey

Input lag is the killer for me. I purchased Mario Golf (N64 game) on the VC on my Wii, and no matter what controllers i used, the input lag was bad, and it made the game unplayable, as it's a 3-click control for the swing. Utterly ruined it.

FFS for this much money, can't they sort these issues out!!

Re: The Micro-Console Revolution Isn't Over Quite Yet, It Would Seem

Dimey

oh wow! I have such fond memories of my amiga! Games a doddle to copy and this was when i was at school, so we all had boxes of ripped off games!
Can't really see myself getting one though, most of my favourite games were arcade conversions, many of which i have on my switch.
But fond memories playing Speedball 2, Xenon, Lotus esprit turbo challenge, super cars, iron iron man stewarts super off road, new zealand story, rainbow islands, rodland, turrican, james pond robocod, the beach volleyball game made by ocean?

Re: Feature: Our Verdict On Mario Golf: Super Rush's 2.0 Update, Including Ranked Matches And New Donk City

Dimey

Not read the text above, but enjoying the vid. The 2 NL chaps seem surprised by the option for different tees? Whilst maybe not an obvious option before, once you're accessed all 3 sets of clubs for a player, and you play score attack, for instance, the clubs you select result in a different tee position. The first course has 2 tee positions, as does New Donk. The others have 3. I only play this game single player, score attack, not fussed by speed golf, so this gives me loads more course variations to chase high scores on. Not sure if reviews have made this clear to people!!

New Donk course, on back tees, is quite fun, could have made it more challenging, some longer holes, from building to building, but it's a nice change of pace, good to have to bend shots between buildings!

I'm yet to play battle mode or speed golf, but considering how golf buggies are a big part of real golf, surely missed trick not to have some sort of golf buggies in this game, either as part of speed golf, or as bonus races in multiplayer between holes?? Mario kart / Mario golf mash up haha

Re: Review: Mario Golf: Super Rush - A Solid Swing, But Par For The Course

Dimey

@johnvboy have to admit, it was using the best set of mario's clubs, so most par 4's drivable... should have been -25 haha...

weird that 5 courses have 3 different tee's, so score attack, it changes depending on the clubs you choose, but first course only has 1 set of tee's, beginner, so pick the best clubs and it's crazy short. but quite fun actually!

Re: Review: Mario Golf: Super Rush - A Solid Swing, But Par For The Course

Dimey

@johnvboy like you said earlier, the control systems on all camelot golf games have so much depth. a well balanced golf game, even with a small number of tracks, can give so much entertainment.
and since when did more courses mean better game? My favourite racing game is the original sega rally, 3 basic tracks. But you learn everything about them, and take pleasure in shaving fractions off your best times. I have xbox golf games with loads of courses, but there are so many you barely remember one from the other. agree not everybody will feel the same, but some of us like score chasing haha
have a great weekend everybody.

Re: Review: Mario Golf: Super Rush - A Solid Swing, But Par For The Course

Dimey

i have no desire to argue with anybody. but for me, i've spent almost the entire day (sad) playing this game, and only playing the single player mode, levelling up characters and trying to beat my scores on each course, for each of the 3 difficulty settings. And i'm having a blast. yes the graphics could be better, but that doesn't make it less fun. If graphics was the be all and end all, i'd only ever play my xbox.

Re: Review: Mario Golf: Super Rush - A Solid Swing, But Par For The Course

Dimey

all the people saying there are no outlandish courses. firstly, PGA on xbox one and the later courses on N64 mario golf taught me outlandish courses are rarely more than a novelty. But also, ignoring any DLC planned, the final course, bowsers lava thingy, is really good! has everybody actually played this game yet??

Re: Review: Mario Golf: Super Rush - A Solid Swing, But Par For The Course

Dimey

I'm still playing, and really enjoying this and getting into it. Still only playing score attack mode. None of the reviews mention that you have various levels of club you can upgrade for the players, and in score attack the clubs you select act as a difficulty setting, changing distance of holes and severity of wind, how tricky greens are, etc, and all have separate, very nicely managed high score charts and statistics. Which is exactly what i wanted, haha! So I'm happy, few more courses will be very happy...

Re: Review: Mario Golf: Super Rush - A Solid Swing, But Par For The Course

I downloaded this today, and have played through each of the 6 courses in single player stroke play. Only previous Mario Golf game I played was N64, which I played to death, alone and with friends. I have zero interest in speed golf or battle golf, may try with friends over drinks one evening, but I got this mostly just to chill and play single player on the courses, seeing how low a score i could shoot.
Courses, I prefer to the 6 on the N64. I didn't like the later courses on the N64, but on Switch, the final few courses, especially the Bowser course, I really enjoyed. You can change wind speeds, move back to Championship tee's, to increase the challenge.
Mention of Championship tees makes me think there may be a competition mode to come?
What don't I like? As others have said the graphics don't look great, especially compared to Mario Kart levels of quality, it looks like a Wii game to me. I've gotten used to the new shot system, but it's clearly designed for speed golf. Mario Golf on N64, with the classic 3 click system, if you mistime it you hit the ball 3 yds. It's impossible to hit a bad shot (mishit shot) on this new game.
You can sort of level up the Mario characters, as you unlock better clubs, which really impact gameplay by adding distance, ability to swing the ball more than 1 way, etc.
If as promised they add more courses (hopefully at least another 3 or 4), then it'll scratch the Mario Golf itch I've had since N64 days. Hoping they also add some more modes, which does look likely...

Re: Konami's Seminal Shooter Gradius Blasts Off On Switch Today

Dimey

Yeah, I have this on my original Jap PC Engine, and PC Engine mini, and the Konami collection on my Switch... that's probably enough!

I've finally really got my head into the game on my mini PC Engine, and save slots (whilst many people will scoff) have helped me play through it on a single life... I echo what's said above, the slow-down is very welcome in a few places... at 44 my reactions aren't what they were back in the Sega SMS days!!!
