Re: Review: Lonely Mountains: Downhill - A Freewheeling Downhill Delight

Dijita

@Scollurio Me too! I live in a community where it feels like 80% of the population mountain bikes.

This game looks like great fun. I did chuckle a bit when describing the steering system. I mean.. yes you turn your front wheel more to turn more... at slow speeds. However, if you are hurdling down the mountain side, you're steering by leaning and turning your hips. That's the one thing I find these mountain bike games struggle to get right when it comes to physics.

Re: Talking Point: Is Nintendo Switch Online Good Value Compared To PlayStation Plus And Xbox Live Gold?

Dijita

If there service is primarily about the retro games they provide, then Nintendo needs to rebrand the service. The actual online experience is terrible. It’s ridiculous that I have friends online that I can’t even send a message to say, ā€œhey! Do you want to play Stardew Valley?ā€ Or that lag in super smash brothers is unplayable even though I have a fibre optic connection. Or that I have to find alternate ways to voice chat.

I love Nintendo but their ignorance towards providing a proper online experience is deeply frustrating.

Is there good value? Not really. I think spending less money than the competitor that lacks essential functions and works poorly is a lot worst than paying a premium for a robust service.

Re: Feature: Hyperkin Explains Why Its Next Console Is Bringing The Game Boy To Your Living Room

Dijita

"These consoles, with the exception of the RetroN 77, are digital solutions that don't employ the use of an operating system, like the RetroN 5."

Someone help me understand this statement? I have a Retron 5 and I'm pretty happy with it, being a casual collector of various retro games.

Do games look different on the more specific systems compared to the Retron 5, or is the difference the fact that the Retron 5 boots to an actual menu, whereas the later iterations do not?

On a side note, I am definitely planning on getting the Analogue Pocket. I'd say I'm a lot more serious in my Gameboy collecting and the Pocket looks phenomenal!

Re: This Cube-Like Console Play Will Play Every Game Boy Game On Your TV

Dijita

I have a Retron 5, which already plays all Gameboy stuff.

For what its worth, its been a pretty good experience. I haven't had any games fail to work, so far. The only hindrance I've noticed, is that the colours on some games are a bit off.

I've recently acquired a GameCube with the Gameboy Player, and obviously this works a lot more accurately with Gameboy games, since it's using the actual guts of a GameBoy.

I'm EAGERLY anticipating Analogue's Pocket this year. It'll be my first Analogue purchase. I never bought the previous ones because with NES/SNES/GENESIS, I actually like using Save State's. With Gameboy, save states aren't really an issue since games were designed with shorter play sessions in mind.

Re: Review: Super Kirby Clash - Monster Hunter Meets The Cute Pink Puffball

Dijita

@Shade_Koopa I get that it won't be perfect. But it shouldn't be crippling. I never experience a crippling multiplayer when I play on my PS4. I'm not using the word crippling lightly either. Most of the time I'm experiencing seconds of lag continuously through out the whole game experience. It is well known that Nintendo's online service connection is bad. I'm just trying to highlight the fact that even with a fibre optic connection it is still horrible.

Re: Review: Super Kirby Clash - Monster Hunter Meets The Cute Pink Puffball

Dijita

Nintendo. You need to rename your ā€œOnlineā€ service and market it differently. My money is not going to online services because I experience crippling lag with every game that I’ve tried online. I have a fibre optic internet connection with consistent download and upload speeds of 300 mbps. I should never experience lag. I am frustrated by my Online experience.

Seriously, if you would just rebrand what you’re actually selling, people might not be as angry. My money is paying for retro games. I am ok with this. But please don’t tell me I’m paying for a functioning online service because that is NOT what I am receiving. I am angry.

Re: Nintendo Switch System Update 9.0.0 Is Now Live

Dijita

Oh my gosh! Player invites!? That's huge! Did I misread that. I hope it works as it sounds. This is something I've been angry that's not been implemented until now. It's a sad thing when I see a friend playing a game that I own, but I have no way to invite them to play together.

Now if Nintendo can just deal with the brutal lag during online play that would be great. I have fibre optic, with download and upload speeds consistently hitting 300 mbps. I should never have frame rate issues that are so bad that I can't play the game. But alas, I do, more often than not.

Re: Poll: Have You Played The Dragon Quest XI S Demo On Nintendo Switch Yet?

Dijita

I have yet to play through an RPG a second time. However, after playing the Switch demo I was reminded of just how wonderful this experience is. Thus I've gone and preordered the Switch version and plan a full play-through even though I've already beaten this on PS4.

Oh my gosh... that Orchestral soundtrack! (Why did they not have this on the PS4 version!?)

Re: After An Uphill Struggle, Descenders On Switch Is On The Home Stretch

Dijita

As an avid mountain biker and past downhill racer, I hope they can get the animation right. A lot of what’s shown in the trailer just doesn’t look right. The whips for example look very stiff and initiated when the rider is already in the air, where in reality, a whip is really generated on the take off of the jump. It’s still on my radar and I’m hoping it’ll be a fun time though.

Re: You'll Be Able To Transfer Save Files Between Switch And Switch Lite, Eventually

Dijita

This was a huge missed opportunity on the 3DS. I would have owned multiple 3DS’ and 2DS’ because they had so many cool special editions. However, I like to play what I collect and not being able to have the same account with cross-over saves between multiple systems was a deal breaker for me. Nintendo, get this right and you will make so much more in hardware sales.

Re: Mighty Switch Force! 2

Dijita

Awesome! I’ve never played this series but I loved the Shantae games. I will buy this for sure. Hopefully it gets a physical release.

Re: Review: Shadows Of Adam - A Short But Sweet Throwback To The Glory Days Of 16-Bit JRPGs

Dijita

@tm0135 thanks for your comment. I want to clarify that I do believe a 7/10 does not equate to a bad game.

I’m excited to play this. I’m just saying that in the ocean of games that hits us each week, it’s a bummer to see a 7/10 where the write up speaks of a more positive experience, resulting in less exposure to a potentially great game.

I totally fit in the camp of too many games so few time. So I appreciate a shorter JRPG game. I still try to tackle the big staples but it takes me a good 6 months to get through those.

Re: Feature: Digital vs Physical - What Is Your Preference for Nintendo Switch?

Dijita

I’m a collector. I like physical. I love companies who still include instruction manuals for that complete physical game buying experience.

I disagree with the article that physical games are cheaper. I often find digital games after a bit of time often go on sale.

I don’t like Nintendo’s practice of offering better rewards for buying digital. It rubs the face of retailers, who support your company, in the dirt.

Re: GameStop Promo Wants You To Trade-In Your Old Switch For A New Switch

Dijita

@deltapeng I agree with you. I’ve been contemplating switching out my switch just to have a fresh system with fresh batteries. I would never do the trade at GameStop simply because you need both systems in hand to transfer all your data over. So, I would rather buy the new system, transfer my data and then sell my old one on Craigslist.

Re: Soapbox: Why I'm Not Excited About Playing NES Games On The Nintendo Switch

Dijita

I feel the same way.

I feel that the offering of the NES games is an attempt to distract us from the lack of features that Nintendo's Online service is offering.

After the service launches today, if I still can't send an invite or a quick message to a person on my friends list, I'm seriously throwing my hands up in the air.

I get that the service is drastically cheaper than the competitors, but for frig sakes, can we please get some basic features! What is the point of a friends list if I can't even invite them to the game I am playing. It's so frustrating to see that a friend is playing Monster Hunter, but I can't communicate with them to set up a room or organize a hunt together.

Re: Soapbox: Why I Prefer Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate To World

Dijita

I really want to give my opinion from someone who is new to the series, with World being the entry point.

Once I’ve got past the tutorial quests, I really started to love MHGU over World. I’d agree that it’s not as slick as World but I still enjoy Generations much more.

The biggest driving force for my love of Generation over World boils down to immersion. All of the QOL improvements in World takes away from the immersion in my opinion. What I mean by that is that I get a sense that I am an actual hunter when I play, for example I have to make more things since tools break and I have to actually find the monsters and resources as opposed to following ā€œfairy dustā€ (which now I actually get to appreciate the environments as opposed to fixating on glowing sprinkles), I have to be selective and careful of what I bring (I mean my pockets are only so big of course), etc.

I love that the Hunting styles add depth and variety to each weapon and I'm enjoying experimenting with different combinations.

I want to spread the love for this game and let people know that new MH players moving from World can love this game too and that the game is not just geared to veterans. You simply have to look at it from a point of immersion.
