Re: Miyamoto Views Games As 'Products', Not 'Works Of Art', Says Ex-Nintendo Dev

Devann

Someone who makes a work of art, does it out of their own inspiration and aspirations.

Someone who makes a product, does it out of the desire to satisfy those which the product is designed for.

The idea is that we want to make others happy, not just ourselves.

It makes sense with more context. He isn't saying it in a corporate cold "Here's a bottle of coke, drink it and move on to the next one" kind of way, he's saying "What's the best way I can create this thing, that people will buy and be satisfied with?"

They're missing the point. (But that's probably intentional.) People don't want them to be online forever - people want them to be playable. That could mean a game that was an always-online multiplayer game such as Fortnite being able to be played via lan, local multiplayer, or against ai opponents, for example. All of the work is there - it just requires them to make the game work without constantly reporting back to the mothership.

Just like how I can play Mario Kart DS via local wireless and against computers, and Super Smash Bros. Brawl against my friends, family, and computer players locally, even though the online services for those games have been discontinued.

@Anti-Matter Why do you comment on articles regarding things you have no interest in? What does this contribute to? How does this improve anything?

Edit for context: Looks like the comment was removed.

@Nintendo_Thumb Hey there! I saw you played my 24 course Complex Simplicity series on Wii U. I have released a 55 course enhanced remake of this series in Mario Maker 2, Complex Simplicity +, and I'd love for you to give it another shot. The first 40 courses are in the superworld format, but you must manually start the remaining 15 from my profile.

Okay, well, you can't compare a physical item purchase with ties to digital functionality in a video game... to digital purchases for make-believe items in a game with no actual tangible real-world benefit. It's apples and oranges.

If 2K sent you a physical representation of something in the game in EXCHANGE for the MTX, that would be different, and still not very comparable. It's not like scanning your amiibo lets you play as Zelda, or Mario, or PIkachu. It changes the texture on something that isn't even on-screen all of the time.

@Chaotic_Neutral Nobody cares about glider fabric.

You purchase Amiibo for the physical figure. 2k isn't sending me a minifig or a kit to build my creation in this piece of garbage game after purchasing the MTX in it.

Get real.
