> “ this 'mon is new to these games, though if you pay attention to such things it was leaked / spotted by dataminers in recent times.”
Absolutely none of that is true.
1. Shay min was released in Gen 4 2. The event was present in the original (albeit unimplemented) 3. Dataminers revealing that content previous in the original is also in the remake isn’t exactly an achievement
@HenHiro people were saying the exact same thing about Arceus in its initial trailer, and the end result was a pretty well-done (if a tad underwhelming compared to others in the genre) project with a consistent framerate. The only one we can accurately call out for doing a rush job is you and your criticism.
@Citano I'd say, at the very best, the announcement would be Hisuian Pokémon will be transferable from HOME to SwSh (simultaneously announcing the compatibility of HOME with the recently-released titles), with it being more likely to be some Wi-Fi distribution and a reminder that the Shiny Galarian birds are available if you participate in the upcoming online events.
@Damo respectively, Nintendo don't. Compatability doesn't mean playability. The game cannot be played with a Nintendo Switch Lite, as their is no Joy-Cons on that device . Your headline outright states its not playable on the device, when you've now proven it yourselves as not true. Your entire basis is a confused tweet that seems to be both the source and the inspiration for the article. The only actual restriction is Handheld Mode, which is consistent across the models.
All this game does for me is remind me that PlatniumGames still haven't released any Kickstarter DLC for Wonderful 101, despite it now being 2 years since the release.
@Gwynbleidd it was announced in a Direct, either you haven't been following the news for a game you were interested in or you've been hoping for a full remaster of a game for the last 30 years.
Appreciate the article (I'm fairly certain I own most of these already), but seriously with the constant spam of your own store on the page? It's nearly happening every single game mention, it's completely unwarranted and it's honestly turning me off from future articles with game recommendations if all they're going to be is "This is a game we like, and if you buy from our store you can play it too"
@Noid calling it "one of the best platform fighters ever" is a fair comment, but considering the amount its completely dropped off (judging from SteamDB, only 65 players are online for PC, with viewer figures on Twitch nearing single digits), saying that is a little exaggerative. Also, I'd say that the fact the game was clearly a rush job (lazy Character Selection screen, no voice acting, generic sound effects) and the fact that coverage of the game by the Smash community stopped soon after its release (anyone paid to promote it said their copy-pasted "this game is so good" script then left the game, the other top Smash players just went back to their previously-scheduled entertainment) were just as big contributors as the high price.
The DLCs seem to be more like things other developers put in their game for free, not really charge for it.
Shame that one of the 3 DLCs is only for PC (mod support), and even then most indies on Steam offer mod support for free (Binding of Isaac Repentence being one of the better examples).
Personally, I hope that DLC is just some name for bigger updates (like how Dead Cells does) against being actual paid content. I thought the base game was fun but not that justifying the €20 price tag.
@Browny I bought my used copy of HG a few years back. €18, but no box and a torn label. Bought it because my copy broke and I had all the missing components.
What brings it up is the fact I was in that same shop a few weeks ago, and they had a copy of SS in a similar condition (no box, scuffed label) for €55.
@RupeeClock Shelter (and its sequel) both cover a similar concept too; a mother lynx has to help their babies grow up in the wild, teaching them to hunt prey and avoid predators. I'd be interested to see how Endling differs from Shelter, but to me it looks like retracing the same steps (with the only real difference being the human interaction).
NintendoLife, what is up with the constant negativity of the Switch Online, with regards to this method of rollout?
Complaining about how the release is being handled with 64 Oline goes against the exact same argument ye made against the previous iterations; the services weren't being updated consistently enough. A slower drip-feed is exactly the kind of solution discussed (less games but more often) and we're hitting the point of retro gaming where the length of games are increasing to the point that the lack of new ones has a lessening impact than previous (I'm fairly certain you can beat the majority of the SNES Online library in the time it'll take a casual player to finish Paper Mario). On top of this, the quality of the titles yet to be released (even limiting ourselves to the non-leaked titles) is still overall higher than any previous service after launch (Banjo-Kazooie and Majora's Mask are definitely higher quality than Jelly Boy and Bombuzzal).
I'm all for legitimate criticism of the service ye make, but this article literally argues against the major points ye complained about earlier that have been addressed.
@thiz or for people who won't/can't download the day-one update on release, who make it to the end of the game? It's certainly more a "just in case" statement.
@brendathecat Smash Bros. Ultimate was sold at the standard price for a AAA release. It has sold over 23 million copies, not even counting the amount of DLC bought for it. Smash Ultimate also became the best-selling fighting game title of all time during the first 6 months of its release. I'm fairly certain Nintendo are just fine with its performance at the price it was launched at. Besides, by your recommendation, dropping the game by (for example) $10 would mean the game would have had to sell another 6 million copies to be at the same amount of money earned. People bought Smash because they wanted to buy Smash, not because of it's price point. I doubt an extra 6 million customers would have bought it solely for the price. Besides, the game has received multiple discounts from retailers regardless of the base price, which would have attracted those people regardless.
I would agree the amount of content is eye-watering, because that isn't actually a bad thing. In fact, that's what considered a "good thing". There's a significant amount of content in the base game already, without ever having to pay for DLC:
Every Smash character from every previous game, and some long-requested newcomers
103 stages, most graphically remastered to bring them up in quality, some demastered to match the look of their original games, and (surprisingly) only 3 new stages.
Sprits Mode, a way to represent the multiple series that Smash Bros. ties into with its roster, giving those same series themed battles using the Smash roster characters
World of Light, a storymode-like that attempts to tie-in the Spirits Mode to an actual in-universe event.
Stage Builder, added after launch, to allow for user-made stages and other experiments.
Solo Mode, now rebalanced to be unique for each fighter in the game, with either references to a previous adventure or a series of themed battles based on the character's history (e.g. Dark Pit)
The price for the additional content isn't that unreasonable for a fighting game at all. $5 per character isn't unreasonable; most fighting games charge the same amount per character, and offer less than Smash at that value (Tekken charges $6 per character, and DLC stages are separate. In fact, even the indie title Rivals of Aether required $4 for it's DLC, which only included an extra stage), whereas a Smash DLC offered:
Character
Stage
Music
Solo Mode for new character
Spirits Battles based on other characters from the DLC's series'
I don't really think it's far to call the game lacking content, or the DLC not value for its money.
Honestly, I'm happier with the Smyths pre-order bonus in the UK (Steelbook and an Arceus figurine that matches the Dialga/Palkia ones from the Gen 4 remakes).
However, on reading back my comment, it conveyed a tone I regret. I would like to apologise for calling you "unfunny", which was not how I wanted for my comment to come across, as that is not my opinion as a whole. In fact, I find the Back Page tags to be some of my more favourite articles (although I will never be happy with the fact te Crab Rave skin from SMITE didn't make the Top 10 Crabs), and in my comment I imply it as a total of you instead of specifically describing this article (and the AFD). My sincerest apologies for the offence caused by me to you.
@SonOfVon sort of the trend with Kate Gray stories: not related to anything usually posted on the site, not funny, and usually a few days late to actually be relevant.
The one that always sticks out to me was her April Fool's prank: making a fake announcement about a movie featuring a role similar to herself (female game journalist) was bad enough, then following it up a day later (ie after AFD) with the "script" that had all the markings of "I want to extend the joke and put in no effort to actually make it funny" made it worse. Not necessary to continue it, it was already dead on arrival.
As is the case with many indie games that target a PC release first, like Deltarune already has. That comment doesn't feel like a subheading, it feels like a whiny little comment.
Are NL going to report on the latest false advertising for Sonic Colours: Ultimate? The latest trailer makes it out that the Switch port runs at 60fps.
Game's controls are very much dependent on the addition of a second screen. Considering how W101's second-screen was poorly adapted to modern platforms by Platnium, I wouldn't be given them any opportunity to port it over.
Genuinely shocked that Monster Train isn't up here, being a roguelike deckbuilder with elements similar to Slay the Spire but taking it in a different collection.
Also, Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist: Link Evolution certainly deserves at least a mention, even just for its single-player content (giving you over 200 scenarios based on popular anime moments from all 6 - at the time - series) and the Reverse Mode of these scenarios.
NL were already called out today for making a baseless rumour about the GB games coming to Switch Online, now they're doubling down on the rumour by making an explanation on why they made up the rumour (i.e. giving evidence for it, which if the rumour was legitimate they really wouldn't need to, as the evidence would already be laid down by the rumour maker). Judging from your April Fools' prank this year, however, we're already aware of NL's inability to end something at its natural conclusion (i.e. when we've already figured out it's fake).
The issue with NL and rumours is the fact that, previously, they have pushed their rumours so hard it drowns out any other form of discussion that goes against it.
The Switch Pro is the perfect example. For years, Nintendo Life wrote articles, made poles and otherwise attempted to capitalise on unfounded rumours that there was a Nintendo Switch Pro coming. The rumours were mostly done not by leaks, but by industry speculation (a new Tegra chip, the fact that consoles tend to have a mid-generation upgrade - which, as far as I'm aware, has happened to a Nintendo home console once before, but has happened to all Nintendo handhelds). The amount of reporting by Nintendo Life on this was near-constant, where you could expect a new article on it on a day-by-day basis at its worst. They had no proof, only just what was being "rumoured", creating a cyclical rumour mill (where the rumours gained more traction due to their reporting by prominent Nintendo sites, causing more rumours to be made, which were reported, and so on).
When the "Switch Pro" was revealed, the rumours were instantly proven to either be A). complete fabrications or B). far off from being true (despite every rumour basically following the template of "Switch Pro to be announced next week" every week up until it was announced). NL was still pushing these rumours even after they were confirmed to be dead (and judging from the comments by the editors in this, they're still pushing that it was real all along). Even if in a year's time a Switch Pro or Switch 2 is revealed, NL don't deserve any credit for backing this rumour, especially with the timeframe from rumour to (potential) reveal.
Further reading comments from NL staff actually show they claim a "good track record". Simply not true. What ye're adding to your credit are the rumours you reported on from known leakers with actual good track records (e.g. ShiinaBR for your Fortnite rumours). Actual rumours from NL (e.g. the Switch Pro) have had little correct information, or are so general that it's almost laughable ye'd take credit for them (e.g. RUMOURS: game with previously-unannounnced release date might have release date announced at next Nintendo Direct).
Are the "credible sources" the same ones who fed the rumours about the Switch Pro ye reported on for years? NL's rumour mill isn't producing anything of quality lately. Even with Switch Pro being debunked, ye still spent weeks after trying to reignite the rumour (only because ye spent so long convincing everyone it was revealed) before finally calling it quits.
This is the 3rd time a high-profile title has had its physical title delayed in Europe this year (Crash 4 and Game Builder Garage being the other titles). Unlike those titles, there was at least warning prior to release (Crash 4 silently delayed the physical release in Europe, GBG simply advertised a physical version without ever specifying which regions), but to do this less than 2 weeks before launch would signify something deeply wrong that's happened last minute.
@moodycat weak bait comment about lack of National Dex. The game is about discovering the early Sinnoh region, it only makes sense that a Pokédex at least similar to the Gen VIII Sinnohdex is the basis, against a full National Dex (where most of the Pokémon either A). don't exist (Porygon, Ditto etc.) B). have no reason to be there (Tapus, Ultra Beasts, any regional legendary) or C). have never had any known origin in the region (the majority of the Dex)).
Hopefully the performance of the game in the trailer is improved for the final release. Game looks like its back in Early Access (poor shadows, basic textures, low framerate).
Starter (getting both versions, so presumably Torterra & Infernape) Staraptor/Garchomp (both have been staples of DPPt teams for years)
After that, I'll see what the new Regional Pokédex has in store, base the decisions around that. Based on previous playthroughs (and assuming the Dex is the same), other candidates would probably be:
Luxray Gyarados Lucario Abomasnow/Weavile Gliscor Snorlax (yes, I did the Honey Trees for Munchlax)
@CactusMan Owning the games is irrelevant in this scenario, and the comment you made is particularly confusing. No one was saying the items cost money (in fact, being Platnium Points, they were earned through logging in or playing the smartphone games), just that the comment I replied to said they were free (which I was half-wrong on; 2 wallpapers are available, 1 costing 50 PP, the other being free).
@readyletsgo Not really that weird. UK store never even shipped MyNintendo rewards themselves (always through the DE store). Standard price for everywhere that isn't Germany is €6.99.
Interesting that this is the second physical delay for Europe this year (Crash Bandicoot 4 also having a later physical launch), with a similar delay window.
Regardless, was holding out for a physical EU release, so this is going right on the pre-order list. Will probably be put aside initially for WarioWare.
Yeah, NintendoLife here attempting to Poke a little fun at a company drawing attention to its less-than-stellar games.
Meanwhile, forgetting that just last year, they attempted to big up the Bakugan game by WayForward, written in such a way to somehow avoid talking about the glaring issues the game had (impressive, considering they were evident in the game demonstration they provided), giving front-page headlines to a game that didn't deserve it, all because they were clearly sponsored. Oh how the mind forgets so easily.
@Bentendo1609 Pyra/Mythra will almost certainly get their own separate amiibo. Steve (if/when it happens) will more than likely just be a singular amiibo, no real need for Alex to get one.
Too 5 is limiting to me, personally. 10 is a more reasonable number in terms of guessing. With 10, I'd definitely put this down (no order):
Ori and the Blind Forest (2015) Pokémon HeartGold (2010) The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (2017) Super Mario Galaxy (2007) The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth (2014) Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped (1998) (played 2001) Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (2018) Hades (2020) Slay the Spire (2019) Sonic Mania (2017)
In terms of release date and play date, Hades is certainly the most recent game that released and the most-loved game I've played in recent years. Some are interchangeable with games I think are just below the top 10 (Cuphead, Pikmin, Overwatch, FighterZ, Spyro 1)
@Jeronan oh no, I'm not trying to undermine the complete stupidity of the Yokai Watch delays, I'm just comparing them to the travesty that is Inazuma Eleven Ares' handling (in fact, Yokai Watch seems to have been announced and released in between the period of Inazuma Eleven delays, so clearly priorities are being handled chaotically).
Imagine if it was NA that was announced as not getting a physical release, I doubt the comment section here would be filled with the same people saying "If you don't like it, import it".
@Jeronan think that's bad? The Inazuma Eleven fanbase will (at this point) be waiting 10 YEARS in between installments of the game (with the last release - GO Galaxy - releasing in 2013, and Great Road of Heroes - the "no-longer-a" tie-in to the Ares anime released in 2018 - being delayed until 2023).
I'm guessing this is our April Fool's Day prank for the year. Considering the rest of the lacklustre content we've gotten this year from these "original" articles, can't say I'm surprised this is the best they could do.

Even with Switch Pro being debunked, ye still spent weeks after trying to reignite the rumour (only because ye spent so long convincing everyone it was revealed) before finally calling it quits.

Ratchet & Clank dropped 50% in physical sales and is in 12th for the week.
Re: Sonic Colours Ultimate Physical Editions Delayed; Digital Versions Not Affected
Re: Pokémon Legends: Arceus Pokédex - Every Confirmed Pokémon So Far
@moodycat weak bait comment about lack of National Dex. The game is about discovering the early Sinnoh region, it only makes sense that a Pokédex at least similar to the Gen VIII Sinnohdex is the basis, against a full National Dex (where most of the Pokémon either A). don't exist (Porygon, Ditto etc.) B). have no reason to be there (Tapus, Ultra Beasts, any regional legendary) or C). have never had any known origin in the region (the majority of the Dex)).
Re: Floppy Punch-'Em-Up 'Gang Beasts' Goes Gangbusters On Switch This Winter
Hopefully the performance of the game in the trailer is improved for the final release. Game looks like its back in Early Access (poor shadows, basic textures, low framerate).
Re: What Pokémon Will You Be Using In The Diamond And Pearl Remakes? Nintendo Wants To Know
Guaranteed picks:
Starter (getting both versions, so presumably Torterra & Infernape)
Staraptor/Garchomp (both have been staples of DPPt teams for years)
After that, I'll see what the new Regional Pokédex has in store, base the decisions around that. Based on previous playthroughs (and assuming the Dex is the same), other candidates would probably be:
Luxray
Gyarados
Lucario
Abomasnow/Weavile
Gliscor
Snorlax (yes, I did the Honey Trees for Munchlax)
Re: My Nintendo Europe Is Giving Away Zelda: Skyward Sword HD Postcards - Just Pay Shipping
Re: My Nintendo Europe Is Giving Away Zelda: Skyward Sword HD Postcards - Just Pay Shipping
@Gamecuber 50 Platnium Points for the wallpaper
Re: My Nintendo Europe Is Giving Away Zelda: Skyward Sword HD Postcards - Just Pay Shipping
@readyletsgo Not really that weird. UK store never even shipped MyNintendo rewards themselves (always through the DE store). Standard price for everywhere that isn't Germany is €6.99.
Re: Game Builder Garage Gets A September Retail Release In Europe
Interesting that this is the second physical delay for Europe this year (Crash Bandicoot 4 also having a later physical launch), with a similar delay window.
Regardless, was holding out for a physical EU release, so this is going right on the pre-order list. Will probably be put aside initially for WarioWare.
Re: 'All Aksys' Showcase Event Will Feature At Least 7 Switch Games
Yeah, NintendoLife here attempting to Poke a little fun at a company drawing attention to its less-than-stellar games.
Meanwhile, forgetting that just last year, they attempted to big up the Bakugan game by WayForward, written in such a way to somehow avoid talking about the glaring issues the game had (impressive, considering they were evident in the game demonstration they provided), giving front-page headlines to a game that didn't deserve it, all because they were clearly sponsored. Oh how the mind forgets so easily.
Re: Min Min amiibo Tease Confirms Smash Bros. Ultimate Fighters Pass Vol. 2 Figures
@Bentendo1609 Pyra/Mythra will almost certainly get their own separate amiibo. Steve (if/when it happens) will more than likely just be a singular amiibo, no real need for Alex to get one.
Re: Talking Point: When Was The Last Time A Game Cracked Your Top Five?
Too 5 is limiting to me, personally. 10 is a more reasonable number in terms of guessing. With 10, I'd definitely put this down (no order):
Ori and the Blind Forest (2015)
Pokémon HeartGold (2010)
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (2017)
Super Mario Galaxy (2007)
The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth (2014)
Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped (1998) (played 2001)
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (2018)
Hades (2020)
Slay the Spire (2019)
Sonic Mania (2017)
In terms of release date and play date, Hades is certainly the most recent game that released and the most-loved game I've played in recent years. Some are interchangeable with games I think are just below the top 10 (Cuphead, Pikmin, Overwatch, FighterZ, Spyro 1)
Re: Level-5 Announces Layton’s Mystery Journey 'Plus' Version For Switch
@Jeronan oh no, I'm not trying to undermine the complete stupidity of the Yokai Watch delays, I'm just comparing them to the travesty that is Inazuma Eleven Ares' handling (in fact, Yokai Watch seems to have been announced and released in between the period of Inazuma Eleven delays, so clearly priorities are being handled chaotically).
Re: It Seems Game Builder Garage Will Only Be Available On The eShop In Europe
Imagine if it was NA that was announced as not getting a physical release, I doubt the comment section here would be filled with the same people saying "If you don't like it, import it".
Re: Level-5 Announces Layton’s Mystery Journey 'Plus' Version For Switch
@Jeronan think that's bad? The Inazuma Eleven fanbase will (at this point) be waiting 10 YEARS in between installments of the game (with the last release - GO Galaxy - releasing in 2013, and Great Road of Heroes - the "no-longer-a" tie-in to the Ares anime released in 2018 - being delayed until 2023).
Re: The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles Will Use An English-Style Court System
So, NL needed to hit a quota today, so an article about game mechanics from a 6-year-old game like they're anyway new was the result?
Re: Talking Point: Is The N64 Pad Actually The Best Controller Ever?
I'm guessing this is our April Fool's Day prank for the year. Considering the rest of the lacklustre content we've gotten this year from these "original" articles, can't say I'm surprised this is the best they could do.
