The upcoming Great Ace Attorney Chronicles, which will unite the first and second games in the "Great Ace Attorney" line, are set in Ye Olde Englandtown. And you know what that means: charmingly wonky takes on what England is actually like, including lots of top hats, buses, and genius detective Herlock Sholmes himself.
That also includes a revamp of the court system, similarly to how Spirit of Justice used the fictional Khura'inese justice system — which mostly involved a lot of spiritual nonsense designed to punish defendants and defence attorneys for some reason.
English judicial systems have juries, and so The Great Ace Attorney will too, with panels of jury members raising their own objections and coming to their own conclusions. Because this is Ace Attorney, though, you'll have to do a whole bunch of pointing and yelling to convince them over to your side, which would get you fired so fast in real England.
A Summation Examination will allow you to persuade the jury through pointing out contradictions and presenting evidence, same as ever, but this time, you're working against the prosecution and a bunch of British strangers.
The jury system seems similar to the mob-style court that was used in Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney's Witch Trials, if that gives you a good idea of what to expect. There's also a "Dance of Deduction", which you'll do with Herlock Sholmes, to discover new insights and facts. Hopefully, it's an actual dance, because there's been a real lack of waltzing in the court lately.
Other English/British features and landmarks will be present in the game, too — from the new prosecutor who looks like a Victorian vampire, to lovingly detailed renders of what looks like Piccadilly Circus and King's Cross Station.
Interestingly, this is the first Ace Attorney game that has attempted to really bridge the gap between the Japanese original text and the English localisation, with the Japanese audio available to players, and Japanese text on evidence kept intact. English subtitles will be provided if you hover over the text.
The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles will come to the Nintendo Switch on July 27th.

If it's gonna be British court style then where's the silly wigs?
Hmm very interesting to know.
Will definitely keep my eye on this one and I will also be planning on getting it.
But I really want Capcom to announce the pre orders for this game already. I will also purchase the Phoenix Wright AA Trilogy as well to prepare myself
These next 3 months are gonna be a very long wait😭
I want an ace attourney where it's accurate to politics. Instead of observing evidence and finding flaws in logic, you have to observe the oppositions appearance and insult them accordingly, and win from the best one-liners
@jump it actually looks like the judge is wearing one!!!! AMAZING. I hadn't noticed until I saw your comment
This game is gonna be so british!
If it meant fully British they'd also have to get rid of yelling objection because no one does that here
@Jackpaza0508 Via Japan. Believe me, I’ve played the first game’s fan translation and if it’s anything like that, the writers have somehow managed to cram every English stereotype going. Which is pretty hilarious.
Can't wait to play these, i adore this series. I hope there's a few welsh and scottish characters in it and not just the posh, english stereo-typical character the rest of the world thinks populate the entire british isles lol
Hoooley moley. Day one buy for me, that's beyond any doubt.
So, NL needed to hit a quota today, so an article about game mechanics from a 6-year-old game like they're anyway new was the result?
@Toadie I played the first game's fan translation and it was just London. I'm pretty sure the 2nd game will be the same.
I 💜 this series so much.
When I got the word that these games are finally officially coming to the West, I glanced at the clock as if to say, “Hm, it’s only been several years!” Better late than never, heh!
"Herlock Schlomes" 😂
Can't wait.
@a1904 and there had better not be gavels.
Does that mean people will or won't be talking about "pants", and such?
Definitely got my eye on this! My only objection is July seems so far away now.
Nobody will be “objecting” if it’s a British court. That’s a purely American thing.
Nice reading. Nice indeed.
I'm a little curious about why they changed all the names of the characters but... Ok
Waiting to get my PS4 version!
Which one are you guys gonna get?
