The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles

The upcoming Great Ace Attorney Chronicles, which will unite the first and second games in the "Great Ace Attorney" line, are set in Ye Olde Englandtown. And you know what that means: charmingly wonky takes on what England is actually like, including lots of top hats, buses, and genius detective Herlock Sholmes himself.

That also includes a revamp of the court system, similarly to how Spirit of Justice used the fictional Khura'inese justice system — which mostly involved a lot of spiritual nonsense designed to punish defendants and defence attorneys for some reason.

English judicial systems have juries, and so The Great Ace Attorney will too, with panels of jury members raising their own objections and coming to their own conclusions. Because this is Ace Attorney, though, you'll have to do a whole bunch of pointing and yelling to convince them over to your side, which would get you fired so fast in real England.

A Summation Examination will allow you to persuade the jury through pointing out contradictions and presenting evidence, same as ever, but this time, you're working against the prosecution and a bunch of British strangers.

The jury system seems similar to the mob-style court that was used in Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney's Witch Trials, if that gives you a good idea of what to expect. There's also a "Dance of Deduction", which you'll do with Herlock Sholmes, to discover new insights and facts. Hopefully, it's an actual dance, because there's been a real lack of waltzing in the court lately.

Other English/British features and landmarks will be present in the game, too — from the new prosecutor who looks like a Victorian vampire, to lovingly detailed renders of what looks like Piccadilly Circus and King's Cross Station.

Interestingly, this is the first Ace Attorney game that has attempted to really bridge the gap between the Japanese original text and the English localisation, with the Japanese audio available to players, and Japanese text on evidence kept intact. English subtitles will be provided if you hover over the text.

The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles will come to the Nintendo Switch on July 27th.
