Update [Fri 24th Sep, 2021 00:05 BST]: During the latest Nintendo Direct presentation, Deltarune's second chapter was confirmed for the Switch. You should be able to update your existing copy right now. Enjoy!
Update [Sat 18th Sep, 2021 02:00 BST]: Deltarune Chapter 2 is now available on PC. It seems Nintendo Switch owners will have to wait a little bit longer. On the plus side, creator Toby Fox has confirmed the second chapter has been released for free:

Original article [Thu 16th Sep, 2021 03:55 BST]: It seems like ages since we got an update on the progress of Deltarune Chapter 2, and now we've finally got some new information to share.
At the end of today's sixth anniversary Undertale Livestream, it was revealed the second chapter of Toby Fox's latest game would arrive this week on 17th September (aka tomorrow). The catch is it's likely only arriving on the PC. Here's the release date trailer:
In an FAQ over on the official game site, there are some extra details about "computer" save data:
Q. How do I ensure my save file from Chapter 1 carries over to Chapter 2?
A. Completion data is generated when you see the credits of Chapter 1. (Go to sleep in your bed at the end of the game.)
Q. I'm on a different computer from the one I played Chapter 1 with. Can I play Chapter 2?
A. You can play Chapter 2 without save data from Chapter 1. As long as you generally remember what happened story-wise, you'll be fine.
Deltarune Chapter 1 was originally released on the Switch eShop last February as a free download - so give it a go if you haven't already. You can also read our review, where we awarded this first chapter seven out of ten stars. If we hear anything about the Switch release of Chapter 2, we'll update this post.
Are you looking forward to experiencing the second chapter of Deltarune? Did you play the original chapter? Comment below.

Played Undertale (LOVED IT), never played Deltarune so I'll definitely check it out
As expected, no console release yet. Just like Undertale it'll probably be PC-only for a while and then come to Switch and PlayStation at the very least
It is an interesting experience going through Deltarune and uncovering lots of parallels to Undertale though. It's like a companion piece and not so much a sequel in the traditional sense
It's been so long since I played the first chapter. It wasn't bad, just not sure yet if I want to continue on with it yet. It'll likely be wishlisted if it comes to Switch.
Well this is happening now. I was just wondering yesterday if we might hear an update on this game soon.
I loved the first chapter. It wasn't quite as good as Undertale, at least partially because quite frankly, I think Undertale might just have been too special to recapture the magic in a sequel. But despite that, I loved the changes in gameplay and I'm super curious where this story is going.
WOOOOOOOOOOOO!, I just got to try not to run into spoilers Till it comes to console.
Honestly can't wait for it. It's interesting how Toby said all the other parts would be released at once, but here's chapter 2 years down the road from the initial statement. I guess it's just because of current world events changing the scope of development or something.
Anyways, I can't wait to hear new music, and see where the story leaves off after the cliffhanger in the first chapter.
I wanna know why it’s taken so long, and also why release these in chapters? It’s kinda annoying tbh. Just release it in one go, the fans will wait patiently.
@gloom Probably due to him working partially alone, and the current world events slowing down development time. Amazed we're even getting chapter 2 this soon, given he projected the game probably wouldn't be done for 7 years, and was going to only release the rest of the chapters together at once.
@gloom
Toby specifically said he was going to do exactly that...I guess trying to put together a team to fix the inherent issues wasnt feasible.
think it'll be possible to avoid spoilers?
@ancientlii Nah.
@VoidofLight TBH I was sure I was going to have to wait about another 3 to 5 years.
I downloaded Deltarune Chapter 1 as soon as it released on the Switch, but I’ve yet to play it in the…2-3 years since release. Need to get on that…after I finish Undertale 6 years after it released.
I only just recently found out about the Switch version of Undertale's exclusive content. Not going to go into that any further, for those who haven't played it yet, but I bought a physical copy of the Switch version well after I finished the game on PS4, so I think it's time for me to revisit that one, then replay deltarune chapter 1! I'm going to guess that chapter 2 will release on Switch as a shadow drop during an upcoming direct.
Cue internet explosion
It's my bday Tomorrow, really really sucks I won't be able to play it on my bday, so I guess I'm unsubbing from the Reddit for a few months lol
@gloom Toby developed a disability which was major but even bigger, they spent a year trying to develop in a different programming language only to switch back to original but according to Toby, they learned so much from that year of development that for chapter 2 they are building the groundwork that will make development on any coming chapters significantly faster
That's cool, I expected to not hear about this game for longer. Still will wait until all chapters are out, though.
Would be a perfect time to announce it during a Direct
I bet it won’t be long.
Great news! Toby Fox os a genius and really happy he has been taking his time to put this out. Heard he suffered a lot from all the fandom & stardom after Undertale and it understandably stressed him out. Great guy!
Horribly boring game. Guess it's okay if you like everything trying to be a meme.
not a bad game in my opinion, probably should not take much for a port too
@ShadowWeaver421 it's a free, complete game and rounded story.
It's really cool!!
Wow, I can't wait! Part 1 was so big, and the story felt fresh and new. I can't wait!!
No. Didn't care for the incredibly overhyped Undertale (as u HUGE rpg fan), or chapter 1. Very shady move releasing it in PC only, I'd be upset if i cared about the game.
@gloom you and I both know the fans won’t “wait patiently”. You’ve already proven you’re impatient yourself. And of course it’s going to take a long time to develop games like these
@twztid13 it’s really not as “shady” as you’re trying to make it tho? Plenty of games release to different consoles over time. Also, it’s going on to Mac as well. It takes a simple google search to know these things
The Deltarune demo is fun and feels like a full game. But I'll just wait till it comes out. I'm not playing chapter-by-chapter.
"Switch left in the dust".
As is the case with many indie games that target a PC release first, like Deltarune already has.
That comment doesn't feel like a subheading, it feels like a whiny little comment.
@LadyGwen Developed a disability? That sucks!
@DarkTron This story was published just minutes after the Deltarune Chapter 2 teaser. The tagline was to let Nintendo fans know (at the time) that the release date announcement didn't necessarily include the Switch.
Thanks for letting us know this game is coming out on Switch today. Oh, wait. You posted this just to tell us it was coming out somewhere else...on a Nintendo site. On a Nintendo site...
@IronMan30 Because it’s presumably coming out on Switch like Chapter 1 and Undertale? Because there are fans who played the games who only have a Nintendo systems and might want to know if it’s a simultaneous launch to console or if a release date has been announced? So there’s an article to update with the release date of the Switch version if/when it’s announced? There are a number of reasons why it makes sense for this article to be here.
Oh yeah I should play this. I played Chapter 1 like an hour after it shadow dropped which was a mad experience. I better avoid spoilers. Although part of me feels like I’ve kinda moved past Undertale and stuff. It’s very much associated with a specific period of my life and I’m over that now.
@twztid13
So shady of them for you to have to sit with your laptop somewhere and create a steam account in three minutes in order to play a free game.
@StardusterEX so it makes sense to let us know when it's out on another system? No, it really doesn't. So now we're just going to get Tales of Arise articles since previous entries came to Switch and since it's Bamco and they love late Switch ports? They wouldn't do that because it also doesn't make sense. We can hear about Deltarune again when it's coming to Switch. Until then, updates are useless to people who own a Switch and would like to play the game there. Which, Idk, seems appropriate given we're talking about a Nintendo site.
Seems like they're just looking to stir the pot, I guess it worked because here we are.
@IronMan30 Dude, better them do that then me not knowing it was coming out at all LOL.
And its nothing new, Game sites do this all the time.
@__dave you buying me that laptop? If not, my point stands.
@IronMan30 exactly. These people are so full of themselves. They love to tell you what u should like & criticize u when u aren't part of the hive mind.
@twztid13 Whats shady about it?
@twztid13 Chapter 1 also didn't get a Switch release until (literally four months!) later, consoles have a whole certification and rating process to go through - you can't just drop a program on a site on a whim, and it could get leaked and ruin the surprise - and there's some bugs that needed ironing out anyway, I don't see anything weird here.
In due time!
I find it super interesting that this chapter is also releasing for free. Chapter 1 was sizeable enough in both narrative and gameplay to charge a couple bucks, and I cant see Ch. 2 being any different.
Is it just gonna be a free endeavor, and then they'll charge for the full package/physical release when the entire game is done?
@DTFaux Toby Fox did say that Chapters 3 and 4 will be paid, so I think that he is going to wrap this all into one package.
@Tempestryke By the steam listing, it seems like they're going to wait until all the rest of the chapters are completely finished before releasing the completed game.
@DTFaux The first two chapters are free, but 3-7 are going to be paid for in the full release I'm pretty sure. Chapter 2 alone is over 3 hours long though, so this is going to be a pretty lengthy game overall.
@twztid13 There's nothing shady about the game releasing only on PC. Undertale was originally made for the PC, and got ported over the course of many years. Deltarune is no different.
A game not releasing on a certain platform isn't shady in the slightest. PC takes priority generally when it comes to indie games, with consoles following last.
Edit: And no, I'm not in the "Hivemind" that you're claiming exists. it's just that you're calling this game shady for no particular reason other than not having a pc to play it on.
@VoidofLight @ObeseChihuahua2 Thanks for the answers, guys!
@VoidofLight I'm in the camp where i don't think it's shady but dissapointing if it does become PC only, I haven't seen if is gonna be yet or not, but i suspect it won't be considering how successful Chapter one and it's predecessor was
S**t man. Etika would've been screaming all over this.
@Snatcher I guess gaming sites do do stuff like this, tbf. Like on Pure Xbox the other day they were talking about Deathloop's Metacritic score. Still, it just comes off as whiny. But I guess I have nobody to blame but myself for clicking on the article.
@VoidofLight Good to know. Thank you.
@twztid13 PC exclusivity is literally the only exclusivity that can't possibly be 'shady'.
Each console has their own certification process, requires official publishing, requires an ERSB rating, etc. It takes a fair amount of resources to do, especially for a demo for a game that likely won't be finished until after our current game consoles become irrelevant.
PC you can just slap a download on your website and that's it.
@LadyGwen I doubt it’ll be pc exclusive for long, but even if it is, it’ll make it’s way over once the full version of the game releases probably.
@LadyGwen Don't worry its going to be ported.
@IronMan30 Why so nitpicky? Deathloop is confirmed to be coming to Xbox eventually. Delta rune is confirmed to be coming to the Switch. Knowing the progress of development is relevant to followers of the game.
@Seacliff tbh PC exclusivity is only shady when it's limited to one PC game store with DRM (like Epic or Steam)
Which is why I buy most games off of GOG.com these days. That site only sells games without DRM. And they have the best launcher as well.
So it's free? I'm wondering if all the chapters will be free and the only 'price' there is the time to wait for them all. I'm looking forward for it on Switch now
I returned to my struggles with beating Jevil in chapter 1, so I will have that squared away by the time chapter 2 arrives on Switch. ^^
@gloom "I wanna know why it’s taken so long, and also why release these in chapters? It’s kinda annoying tbh. Just release it in one go, the fans will wait patiently."
From what I'm told, Toby was making the game all by himself, up until now. Despite having a team, he still likes to take the brunt of the work, which is a problem, because he severely hurt his wrist and can't get is fixed due to hospitals being full.
I'm playing it right now.
Honestly surprised this came to Switch so quickly.
Brb on my way to download Deltarune
@Ralizah IKR.
@Ralizah Me too. I was expecting it to take a few months at least, especially with Toby's wrist injury. Super excited to play it though.
glad this port came sooner than later, my chap 1 save is mainly on switch, so it'll be nice to continue from there
@ObeseChihuahua2
oh no what happen
I'll give this a DL
Kris get the banana
@ObeseChihuahua2 Wait he hurt himself? when was this?
@SteveDaSteve POTTASSIUM
Well. Certainly hope some people are going to be eating their words now, but hardly expecting it!
Anyway, I've really enjoyed Ch. 2 from what I've played so far. Absolutely go play it if you liked Ch. 1, it's great!
Oh yea forgot this was a thing
The fact I just know that was Toby living his Danganronpa fantasy in that dog suit! 😂😂
That was speedier than I'd anticipate!
Thanks, Toby.
Will be downloaded soon, but I barely started the first chapter (and haven't played Undertale yet).
@charlix12323 I dunno. He just said that he hurt his wrist, and he hasn't been able to get it fixed because all of the hospitals are full here.
@ObeseChihuahua2 I played through the PC version and it looks like the credits are a lot longer so I think Toby's got people doing the non-music/writing parts for him now.
Because from some of his descriptions like being unable to even use a trackball and kickstand for mouse clicks it sounded like his wrist injury was pretty major.
❤
Playing right now. So glad it released just a few days after the PC version.
I've already played both chap 1 and undertale, so this will be a fun chapter to play!
