Admittedly, Konami hasn’t been all too popular with the gaming community in recent times. The company is in charge of multiple treasured franchises, such as Silent Hill, Metal Gear, Castlevania, and Bomberman, but it’s been rather eclectic in its continued support of gaming. When the company decided to release Super Bomberman R on the Switch, it raised plenty of eyebrows, and now it seems that more support for the platform is under deep consideration.
European Brand Manager, Richard Jones, recently talked with Miketendo64 on Super Bomberman R, reflecting on the game’s reception and planned future. It seems that the free content updates could continue for some, as Jones had this to say when quizzed on support for the game:
While I can’t say how long far we will continue to support Super Bmberman R, I can say we do have plenty of other ideas in the works and have a few big updates on the way. For example, while I can’t announce anything for the version 1.5 update, suffice to say there will be more stages and other things. But although I can’t confirm there will be more costumes/characters, there may or may not be some more later on down the line. We’ll just have to see how it goes.
Jones also spoke on Konami’s future with the Switch, acknowledging fan demand for a new Castlevania game:
All I can say is that there is lots of internal discussions going on within Konami regarding what games we can bring to the Nintendo Switch, other than Bomberman, a game which we are well aware of its heritage and how loved it and Castlevania is. So much so that Castlevania is getting is getting its own show on Netflix and because of that, we’re hearing a lot of desires from our fans for a new Castlevania series. So we do know there is a demand for a new game, but right now nothing is set in stone as the discussions are still on going.
What do you think? Did you like Super Bomberman R? How well do you think another Castlevania would be received? Drop us a comment in the section below.

So there may be the possibility of a new Castlevania game coming to the Switch? I guess Bloodstained will be ahead of the ball if that's the case.
He can't say there's a possibility of Castlevania coming to Switch and then not bring Castlevania to Switch, that would be a stake in the heart to all of the fans out there. However if they do bring a new Castlevania to Switch then that would be just fangtastic.
They should 1-up EA and release the FULL version of PES on the Switch, that'd be nice.
Konami is the only company that makes me literally sick (well, Gearbox too) so I expect literally nothing from them. Even if CASTLEVANIA becomes the number one show on Netflix, it's still not a guarantee we'll get any game on any console (case in point: P.T. and Silent Hills).
I'd like to see PES, and not a gimped version like FIFA. If they did that, it could be the go to football game Switch owners buy. Castlevania would be nice too. But this is Konami so I wouldn't be getting my hopes up. They say "nothing is set in stone" so any game would be some time away.
And that first paragraph, talk about noncommittal:
"While I can’t say how long far we will continue to support Super Bmberman R, I can say we do have plenty of other ideas in the works and have a few big updates on the way. For example, while I can’t announce anything for the version 1.5 update, suffice to say there will be more stages and other things. But although I can’t confirm there will be more costumes/characters, there may or may not be some more later on down the line. We’ll just have to see how it goes."
Did I hear Konami say Castlevania!!?
CONTRA CONTRA CONTRA CONTRA. They should tidy up their Contra Evolution arcade game and port that over.
Give us PES for crying out loud.
Would love to see a new Castlevania. Oh, and PES of course.
D D R !
D D R !
D D R !
Konami SHOULD revive Dance Dance Revolution on Switch.
Later, Konami should release wireless DDR Mat for Switch.
The songs must be more than 200 songs + DLC from new songs, characters, outfits, interface, etc.
Not just only DDR. Beatmania IIDX, Guitar Freaks & Drum Mania, Pop'n Music, Jubeat, etc should be revived too with Touch screen play for Handheld mode + Special controller input for docked mode.
I can die in happiness if Konami return on DDR once again with songs from DDR X3 until DDR A.
You know all those Konami franchises that were on the NES and SNES? Well...BRING THEM ALL BACK TO SWITCH! Actually, I think what I mean to say is at the very least be that prolific on Switch please
@Niinbendo Or all the Konami TMNT games.
Pull your bloody finger out and get the games out Talk is cheap action is needed. 😁😁
Full version of PES 18 and FIFA on Switch would tank
A re-release of the Castlevania games from the DS era, with updated graphics would be awesome.
Castlevania You say... On the switch you say... you better F@#KING make it happen now that you've said it.
@Niinbendo That'll never happen unfortunately. Imagine it with updated graphics, sound effects and music. Konami may have been able to strike a deal for an updated version while they held the license. But Activision have owned it since 2013. Though I'm not sure if they still do because Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan, the most recent game(developed by Platinum Games by the way and reviewed really poorly) has been removed from digital retailers.
@Niinbendo I was thinking of the ones on the NES, (original) Game Boy and the arcades, but Konami held that license for some time. I believe the re-release you mentioned was released after Nickelodeon's purchase of the TMNT franchise, so you never know (though I doubt it).
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Appearantly, Activision no longer holds the license. It's not clear if anyone has picked it up yet.
I suggest someone at Konami makes a phone call to someone at Nickelodeon!
Blades of Steel for Switch!
@Sinton And don't forget SNES, especially Turtles in Time! "My toes! My toes!"
@locky-mavo Me: Shut up and take my money
@Niinbendo It's still hard, though I've never had much trouble with the water level. The inside of the Technodrome on the other hand... That game received too much flak after AVGN's video about it.
Dreaming of Suikoden 1 and 2 remakes... i might even take a port if it's carefully updated somewhat and comes as a collection of the two. Oh well, this will most likely remain a dream. Sigh.
Rocket Knight.
@Niinbendo Thanks! 😊
You better resurrect the metroidvania part of the series. Zero interest in another Shadows title.
Call me when Gradius VI and Contra V have been announced with no microtransactions, no base insurance and the only thing similar to pachinko balls are the two I'll be clenching during a tense action sequence.
Or you could just rerelease Symphony of the Night and the Gradius Collection on the Switch for starters.
I love Super Bomberman R, but I am absolutely RUBBISH at it. I lose to the computer on the easiest setting and never win online lol.
Admittedly I have only played it twice since I got my Switch last month due to lack of time, but I must admit, I was obviously cocky and thinking I was going to walk into it being as good as I was for the Mega Drive version back in the mid 1990's lol
I long for the days where having time meant I could get good at games lol.
Agree with everyone saying that a fully featured version of PES on Switch would be a great idea as they have an opportunity to really show EA up. The two franchises have been fairly neck and neck quality-wise over the last couple of years, so reviews stating that Konami's game blows EA's effort out of the water would make them look very good.
Beyond that I would LOVE a new Castlevania game for Switch. I'd prefer a 2D Symphony style entry but would take a 3D one over no Castlevania at all.
nice to see them still making an effort on a original poor release
@Sinton The one on the NES while I liked it was impossible as a kid. It's probably still impossible to beat now.
I think there is a market for bomberman for sute. The free updates is a big bonus as well. Konami neefs to dig deeper there is ple ty of other titles to dig into Contra pops into mind. Button smashing ninja turtle games of the past.
Silent Hill!!!!!!!
Say what you want about Nintendo being super tight lipped and never talking about anything even slightly off their agenda, but companies who talks about the possibilities we are all thinking about but has likely no commitment to getting things done feels so much more frustrating... The fact he can talk about these things means in reality, there is nothing being done therefore nothing to hide.
This isn't really worth an article, is it? Konami Europe doesn't have the power to announce anything, nor are they developing anything themselves. What did we get out of this? Super Bomberman R may or may not get more updates after the scheduled update; Castlevania may or may not get a new game in the franchise. What a scoop.
I wouldn't mind a hd remake of Aria of Sorrow, to test the waters. Then release a game about the War of 1999 ala SotN style of gameplay
Yeah I've enjoyed Bomberman... ready for those characters actually.
There are disscusions being made at Konami. I hope Giant Robot Impact lands in front of their meeting room window and combo-punches a new Goemon multiplayer adventure out of those in charge!
Here, Konami, my lil kids wishlist:
1. Goemon, Ebisumaru, Yae, and Sasuke 4 Player RPG/Adventure maybe with ARMS-style Giant Robot Impact Fighting
1. Goemon - Any Anniversary Collection - including ... emm... ALL GOEMON GAMES! Yoohoooh!
1. Goemon main characters (4 costumes) for Super Bomberman R.
"Castlevania is getting its own show on Netflix and because of that, we’re hearing a lot of desires from our fans for a new Castlevania series."
Konami seems to get its breaking news from the year 2010. We've been asking for a new CV series since Lords of Shadow shambled onto the PS3/X360. Then Mirror of Fate happened and we asked yet again. Then LoS2 happened and we asked a third time! Now 7 years later, an unproven netflix show and large fan backlash finally get them to understand that Castlevania may sorta kinda possibly be liked by gamers.
How about starting with a simple CV collection covering the first game from '86 all the way to SotN in '97. That would be a nice start to getting into fans good graces.....then again they'd probably charge people $60 for it and add microtransactions
@BraveFencerZan--Excellent idea about a CV collection. Heck, they could do 8-bit and 16-bit collections and I'd bite on those.
And agreed...how could they not have something CV quened and ready to go with the Netflix show?!?
Final word: Axelay 2.
Has Konami developed anything new recently?
@SKTTR I want all of this.
I bought Super Bomberman R. Whenever I play it it makes the person move to the left for Player 1. I've used different controllers still the same thing. So it just sits there not being played...
@keihtg They make you literally sick? You vomit when you see their logo?
I picked up Bomberman R because nostalgia, but it's safely the worst of the five Switch games I've purchased so far (1. BotW, 2. MK8D, 3. Shovel Knight Treasure Trove, 4. Snipperclips, 5. Bomberman R). Completed the 5-hour campaign, played a little local multiplayer, and that was it. I have zero incentive to replay and attempt to earn coins for more costumes. Appreciated some of the frame-rate updates though.
Castlevania makes sense with the Netflix show coming out, but we'll see.
Just give me a Bomberman adventure game, Konami. Take your time, but enough Bomberman is never enough for me
I have about zero faith in Konami doing a proper Castlevania game, I helped with kickstarter for Bloodstained I think that will be the Castlevania game I'm looking for. I bought bomberman, but found myself getting bored with it quick.
"Castlevania"
oh i hope so
My 3 hopes if it's indeed Castlevania.
A: A new entry in the original series, like say The Demon Castle War.
B: A remake of an older title ala Rebirth(Personally I want Legends remade and placed back in the timeline)
C: Not another entry in the Lord of Shadows.
@PigmaskFan Lmao. Great times man.
Pull a Monster Hunter and revive Bloody Roar on Switch!
Two questions, will they be releasing a silent fixed release of Super Bomberman R on physical media considering the launch version with the lag issues broke the gameplay? And two if this Castlevania love is genuine and Netflix works out, is this really talk or will Switch get a legit game and not skipped and physical perhaps?
I also wouldn't put it passed them being Konami to take that wii shop game Castlevania Adventure (the remaster of the GB original) and throwing that on a new download and purchasable card too because it would be cheap, easy and already a finished game.
@Anti-Matter
Man I'd love a new DDR.
Anyone else still have horrible lag issues with Bomberman online?
Just give me Contra and Castlevania but now.
Sell all Hudson to Nintendo. Bonk, Bloody Roar, and Bomberman.
Bring back Castlevania in the Iga style, and I'll eat my criticism, Konami. Just bury the LoS subseries and go back to the old timeline.
im discussing the castlevania ordeal in my next meeting with konami. any questions or suggestions are appreciated.
Well if Iga is not helming Castlevania, then I would put my expectations in check. I have a feeling that they will come out with a Castlevania game, developed by some developer, based on the animation on Netflix, which I would have no idea how good or bad that would be. And Konami being who they are these days, I honestly have no hopes at all.
Simon Belmont in Smash!
A new Castlevania from Konami would be interesting because we don't really know what to expect. It won't be Lords of Shadows and it won't be an Igavania, so what will it be? I'm curious and excited at the possibilities, but a little frightened too...
Konami shot themselves in the foot with the kojima crap they pulled. Also the cancelling of the new silent hill was a huge loss imo so I gave up on them.
If they actually spin up a new Castlevania I will crap my pants
Ill be happy if they go back to the original Castlevania time line, rather than sticking to more of that Lord of Shadows stuff.
A sequel to Harmony of Despair, A HD remake of Aria of Sorrow (perhaps with DoS), or a Julius Belmont centric game would all be nice potential options.
Kid Dracula 3D Platformer. Something different for a change. Just something I kinda always wanted to see. Or maybe a new Goemon with open adventure. As much as I want a new Castlevania, the world has resorted to making clones in their absense, and now we're getting Bloodstained. Maybe a new and serious Contra with first person survival horror aspects. Get some "xenomorph" killing action on the Switch. I want to unload a clip on a Nintendo console, and not with a COD.
